4⭐️Town One-Shot: Wanna Be Cool?

(this takes place after they first debuted, so this means this was way before 2002. this also means that some characters act a bit differently or some characters' relationships are least developed than they are in the future.)

summary: tae young isn’t as confident in himself as he is now. back when 4*Town first made their debut, it was clear that tae young was ‘different’. not wanting to be the odd one out of the group, he decides to ask his housemate, jesse, to pierce his ears in an attempt to appear more ‘cool’. unfortunately, jesse didn’t realize how hard it would be to carry out this favor.

"jesse!"

the sudden sound of his door slamming open and the shout of his name caused jesse to leap out of his chair. he cautiously turned around to find tae young standing at his door, almost knocking the painting he was working on down.

jesse smiled at tae, a little perplexed as to why he had just barged into his room as if on a mission "hey tae...? what's wrong? do you need something..?"

tae young narrowed his eyes and took in a breath, puffing out his chest. it was like he was trying to make himself look confident. "i want...i-i want..."

tae young then let out a huge sigh and his shoulders dropped, suddenly losing his strong demeanor. he dropped his head and turned it to the left as a shaky finger pointed to his ear.

"....i want you to pierce my ears..." he mumbled out.

jesse raised an eyebrow. "that's it?" he asked. tae young nodded shyly. “yeah…i wasn’t allowed to get my ears pierced when i was younger…s-so why not do it now…”

jesse didn't understand why tae was acting this way over wanting to get a piercing. he was quivering like someone had a rifle to his head.

"well alright," jesse gave tae a warm smile, gesturing for tae young to take a seat on his bed "come here tae, sit down." jesse started to rummage through his arts and crafts supplies, trying to find a needle. as he was digging through one of his art drawers, he heard tae young taking mildly obnoxious deep breaths.

he turned his head slightly to see the poor boy inhaling as much as he could through his mouth as if he was trying to eat the air. jesse paused what he was doing and fulling turned around to look at tae young.

"okay, kid what the hell is going on? do you actually want to get your ears pierced or....?"

tae young nodded hastily, biting his bottom lip nervously.

"so then why are you acting like i'm about to murder you?" jesse asked as he crossed his arms, giving tae a playful smile, trying to ease his nerves "plus, it's not like you to be this quiet."

tae young started to play at his fingers, before looking up at jesse.

"i'm terrified of needles..."

"that's it????"

"you don't get it! im terrified of needles. even the t-thought-" tae young hugged, himself shivering, before shaking his head, " but i need to do this! i gotta get my ears pierced."

"....why?"

"because all you guys have your ears pierced! and it looks really cool! and i wanna look cool like that!" tae young rambled, picking at the nail polish on his fingernails. “everyone keeps calling me the ‘girl’ in this group…or that im not ‘cool’ enough to be here or whatever….and i wanna be cool enough to stay with you guys..” tae young softly mumbled out the last part.

jesse looked at tae incredulously, “wait so this is why you want to get your ears pierced? you-” jesse struggled to hold back a laugh.

“y-you think it'll make you cooler??? t-thats-” jesse couldn’t take it anymore before he started to cry out with laughter.

tae youngs face turned completely red.

“hey! there’s no need to laugh! i came here because i trusted you-”

jesse cut the tiny blonde off, his laughter calming down.

“tae.” jesse walked over and put a hand on taes shoulder, softly giggling. “thats a ridiculous. first off, you’re like the coolest guy i’ve ever met.”

“no, im too girly-”

“tae just because you like nail polish or other traditionally feminine things doesn’t make you uncool. in fact, it makes you even cooler then the rest of us.”

“stop trying to make me feel better-”

“im not, man! im being honest!” jesse took a seat on his bed next to tae. “being yourself is the coolest you can be.”

jesse looked down at tae and laughed at his unimpressed expression.

“okay, yeah, i know it sounds sappy but it's really true! if you have the courage to be yourself no matter what other people think, that's what makes you cool. doing things because you want to make other people see you in a better light, isn’t cool. a stupid piercing isn't gonna make you cooler, it's all about attitude.”

even though it still sounded kinda corny to tae young, he started to understand what jesse was saying.

you’re cool when you don’t care about what other people think of you. it's cool to show the world the most of yourself and not give a fuck about other people's opinions.

"you're cool, when you're you, as stupidly cheesy as that sounds" jesse smiled while tae young mildly cringed.

tae young nodded slowly “okay..i understand what you mean…but i still want my ears pierced.”

“tae,” jesse signed disappointedly, thinking tae really didn’t understand his point, “i just told you, you don’t need to get your ears pierc-”

“i know i don’t need to, but i want to! i actually do! and for myself this time not to impress anyone!!”

jesse raised his eyebrow, not convinced.

it was silent for a while until tae young let out a huff and mumbled, “….i do a lot of arts and crafts…and sometimes i make jewelry…and yesterday i made tiny dove earrings….and i want to wear them so....”

jesse noticed for a while now that tae young was very comfortable around the boys, but he didn’t seem to like sharing anything about himself. its like he was afraid they would judge him. the boys didn’t want to pressure him so they never pushed him to share much about himself. since they really don’t know much about tae or his interest, for jesse, this is probably one of the best moments of his life. tae young trusts him enough to tell him something so special (at least jesse thinks its special). now he was the first out of the boys to know something so important.

jesse was quiet before a huge smile broke out on his face. maybe this seemed like it wasn't a big deal to an outside viewer, but for him, this made his day- no, his week!

he gave tae young a big hug, confusing the younger, before swiftly jumping up and going back to looking for a needle in one of his art drawers.

he was more determined to find the needle now, wanting to help his friend (and see him in those earrings). he started to throw things out of his art supply drawers and rummaged around his things hastily.

after some time of tae young awkwardly watching his friend scurry around his bedroom, making a bit of a mess, he heard a loud cry of victory.

"HA! I FOUND ONE!" jesse smiled as he held a tiny little needle in his hand. "okay tae lets get-" jesse turned around to find the boy shaking just from the needle in his eyesight.

jesse paused, “….dude…if you’re THIS scared from looking at the needle, i don’t know if i can properly pierce your ears…”

tae young waved his hands frantically, “NO! NO!” he body continued to shake “i can do it!! just….just let me prepare myself…”

jesse watched in silence as tae young started to take hug breaths in and out. this went on for about a minute until tae young finally said “okay hurry up and do it!”

jesse lowly snickered at the way tae young was tightly squeezing his eyes shut. however the minute jesse lightly touched tae youngs ear with his finger, tae started screeching.

“AHHHHHHHHHHGSCDNJDGSGAHHHHHHHHHHGVHHHHHHHHHHHHHHSGAHHHHHH-”

jesse jumped back at the sudden noise, stumbling over a sketchbook he’d thrown on the floor earlier. he looked up from the floor to see tae holding his ear and screaming like a madman.

“DUDE WHAT THE FUCK-”

“IT HURTS-”

“HOW!?!?! I DIDN’T EVEN TOUCH YOU WITH THE NEEDLE!!!”

at that tae young shoulders dropped as he took his hand off his ear, clearly more relaxed than he was a second ago.

“oh? that wasn’t the needle? hahah sorry!” tae young giggled at jesse as jesse looked back at him incredulously.

“….ah fuck-” jesse just stared at tae young before he realized he’d let the needle slip out of his hand. he began looking for it before his door was being slammed open for the second time this morning.

“WHAT'S WRONG?? IS EVERYONE OKAY??? I HEARD YELLING-”

aaron z was seen standing at the door, obviously worried one of his members was hurt or in danger. he looked at the scene in front of him and his initial worried expression changed back to his usual bored one.

jesse was on the floor crawling around on his knees, patting at the ground, and squinting like he was trying to find something small. z thought he looked stupid, and laughed at him inside his head, but didn’t bother to change the expression on his face. tae young was seated on his bed looking up at aaron z and smiling sweetly.

“good morning, z! how did you sleep?”

z ignored his question, “why was there yelling coming from this room. it sounds like someone's being murdered in here.”

“haha i was just being silly no need to worry-” tae young began nervously before jesse cut him off still crawling on the floor.

“he wants me to pierce his ears but he’s afraid of needles. all i did was touch his ear with my finger and he started screaming.”

aaron z snickered, yet his stoic expression stated the same. he looked over at tae young, who looked embarrassed. z started to feel a bit of pity for tae young so he sat beside him on the bed and held out his hand.

"if you're really that scared....you can hold my hand." aaron z said, looking away from tae young.

tae young was silent for a minute, staring at aaron z's hand before a toothy grin spread over his face as he grabbed it.

"thank you aaron." tae young gave z's hand a tiny squeeze as they stared into each other's eyes.

aaron z felt his heart leap out of his chest, the minute tae smiled at him. honestly, aaron z doesn't know why he feels this way around tae young. he doesn't even know when the change happened, he guesses it started to develop from living with him for a while. truly, he thinks maybe he's afraid of the tiny blonde, but in an odd way, he kinda likes the feeling. just looking at him would make his heart cartwheel in his ribcage, which he's sure is not normal.

it kinda felt like he was gonna die from how fast his heart was racing. wait, is his hand too sweaty?? oh god, can tae feel the sweat on his hand? is he making a weird face right now? aaron had never been this panicked at just helping a friend out before. they seemed to be in their own world before jesse jumped up from the floor with a tiny needle in his hand.

"YES! alright, i got it!" jesse walked over to tae young slowly.

"okay dude, just close your eyes..."

tae young began to press his eyes shut as he squeezed aaron's hand.

z eyes shot open from the amount of strength tae put into holding his hand. aaron z looked up at jesse with the most painful expression on his face.

"holy shit! he's killing my hand!!" aaron mouthed silently

jesse shrugged in response before mouthing back, "you did tell him to hold your hand..."

jesse placed the tip of the needle at tae youngs ear.

"okay tae, i'm gonna push the needle in your ear as fast as i can on the count of three-"

"no, four!!" tae hastily interrupted jesse

"um...yeah...sure, whatever, okay on the count of four. ready?"

tae young kept his eyes shut while he continued to cut off the blood circulation from going to aaron's hand. aaron literally thought his hand was going to pop off and hit the floor at this point, but he wasn't going to take his hand back. he'd rather his hand get chopped off than watch tae suffer without any comfort.

"one...

two....

three....

four!"

robaire had never sprinted out of bed so fast in his life. he was in the middle of peaceful sleep, dreaming about making out with jesse, (and no, he will NOT explain further) when all of a sudden jesse screams in his face. he immediately woke up to the same sound except he realized it was tae young. his heart rate sped up at the thought of his poor bandmate in trouble. he leaped out of bed, sliding on his slippers at the foot of his bed and falling on his ass. he ignored the stinging pain on his buttcheeks and scrambled to his feet before running down the hallway following the hysterical screams.

as robaire continued to sprint down the hall he saw a door open up, and before he could slow himself down he ran right into arron t. they slammed into each other before toppling to the ground groaning.

"...what the hell..." aaron t choked out, holding his head in pain. it was clear he had just woken up due to all the noise.

robaire clambered to his feet quickly helping aaron t up, "oh sorry!! so so sorry man!-"

robaire was cut off by another blood-curdling scream down the hall.

robaire and aaron t shot each other an uneasy look before running down the hall following the yelling.

for the third time today, jesse's door was rammed open with so much pressure that his door nob fell off its hinges.

"OH, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!!!"

robaire and aaron t watched as jesse threw his hands up in frustration, pushing both boys out of the way to take a look at his poor door. the boys looked over to find tae young on the floor in a little ball, holding his ears and crying. they watched as aaron z awkwardly patted his back, trying to get him to stop whining.

"jesse?!" robaire turned back to jesse, who was sitting on the floor studying his broken door nob, "what the hell is going on here?!"

jesse didn't even bother to look up from what he was doing before sighing, "i pierced tae youngs ears." he mumbled tiredly.

at that aaron t went from drowsy to wide awake. he ran to tae young and pushed aaron z out of the way. aaron z was ready to protest until he remembered how tired he was at the moment.

"DUDE!" aaron t grabbed at tae youngs hands trying to see his new piercings. "COME ON LEMME SEE!"

robaire walked over and pulled aaron t back, "stop it t. his ears are probably still sensitive."

tae young slowly looked up as the boys gathered around to see his ears. his eyes were glazed with tears as he removed his hands from his ears.

"WOW- OH DUDE I LOVE IT!!!! YOU LOOK SO COOL!!!"

"it fits you nicely tae."

"yup, i did a good job."

"....it looks great but why does tae young look like he's in a lot of pain? his ears look kinda tender." robaire wondered out loud while he took a closer look at tae's ears.

he frowned immediately when he saw how red the youngest ears were.

"jesse? wheres the ice?"

"huh? what ice?"

"....um...the ice you used to numb tae youngs ear??"

"people do that?"

"YOU DON'T?!!?"

"nah, i pierced my ears myself when i was 8. i don't remember much, but i remember just using a needle."

".....holy shit..." robaire turned to aaron z "WHY DIDNT YOU TELL HIM TO GET ICE TO NUMB HIS EAR?"

aaron z just shrugged and began to help tae young wipe his tears.

"OH MY GOD- DID YOU AT LEAST DISINFECT THE EAR BEFORE YOU-"

"disinfect??"

"yes?? did you disinfect the ear before you put in the needle."

jesse looked around the room, avoiding the eyes of his leader

"uhhh, no..."

robaire groaned and grabbed tae young, taking him to the bathroom to clean his ears so they wouldn't get infected.

"YOU'RE WELCOME!" jesse yelled out after the two of them left while robaire mumbled, "i can't believe that guy has two kids...."
