Kitsunenen - 梦瑶 (Mèng Yáo)

This section of my fic is really cool to me, because Tommy learns the exact wrong lesson than I think someone reading this scene would, and it's so indicative of his major character flaw which is believing that he is the main character. He acts like a main character the whole fic, untouchable, no one would dare make him face any consequences. And it results in him barreling into a plan that results in the people he decided were the good guys killing someone who was. A friend. At the end of the day, Cadaver was only a friend.

Quackity is arguably a bad person, but he's not evil, he's just the antagonist to Tommy's story, and as such he has a different philosophy. And I think reading this scene you get a full picture that Quackity's ideas aren't "the bad ideas", they're just ideas that you can choose a side on. Tommy isn't wrong either, he's just got different ideas. But his takeaway is that he needs to be more decisive, more firm in his beliefs, find his own place at the table.

In terms of the viceduo of it all, Tommy and Quackity are both defined by being "powerless" while having a lot of agency. And as the first hero and villain in this fic, I think you get a sense that they are crazy important, while also not being nearly as powerful as their agency indicates. The chip on his shoulder is obviously an allusion to Las Nevadas, and this difference between them is that Quackity is willing to play odds, and let some things work out on their own, whereas Tommy needs security and certainty. He's an orphan looking for his home, at the end of the day.
