&Juliet blinkie!! we LOVE this show, jukebox musicals are so good....
The 'I kissed a ghoul and I liked it' post got me thinking about &J aus again
Like if bringing Romeo back had a cost, let the young life of one who wouldn't have his true love return in exchange for ending the young life of one who would otherwise have a chance at having their true love
And William, in his attempt to bring Romeo and Juliet back together for Anne, would realize that he has to choose between May and Francois. The revival of Romeo means the death of one of them.
For the sake of keeping the conflict with the wedding, William would ultimately choose for May's life to be the exchange for Romeo's. In this version, May isn't in SUBG because they've been dying since the start of IML. They try to hold out long enough for Juliet or Francois to find them, but they slip away just moments before Juliet finds them. No one to carry their last words, no one to share a final smile with. They go out alone.
And so when Juliet finds May, she starts to blame herself. She wants to blame Romeo, and tries to get herself to blame him, but she thinks it's her fault because if she hadn't convinced them to run away, none of this would have happened. Meanwhile Francois doesn't blame anyone, he doesn't know who's to blame, and just begins to avoid everyone, while no one knows why. Romeo and Anne both blame themselves, Anne thinking it's her fault for William's actions and Romeo hating the fact that this was done to bring him back.
May would return as a ghost, and try to figure out what happened while Mercutio tries to comfort them. Neither sibling has completely forgiven the other for what happened in Verona, but there's something pleasantly familiar in the chaos when they reunite. May has all the typical ghost abilities: Phasing, levitation, possession (though they have to learn how first), moving things, all that, but can't become visible or audible to anyone except Romeo, Anne, and William.
William feels guilty about this too, but tries to convince himself that it's just a story, it's just a story that he's gotten too far into writing and none of these characters are real, trying to will himself out of the world he and Anne created and fell into. He keeps trying to live in denial that his actions had consequences that were actually real to people, and keeps failing. Romeo thinks it's all his fault, and May seems to blame him too. May isn't sure whose fault it is more, Romeo's or Will's, and they don't entirely know who Will is aside from the carriage driver and the one who brought Romeo back, so they become determined to figure out exactly what's going on.
May's biggest priority, though, is to get through to Juliet and Francois. They're scared that it'll hurt them too much or they wouldn't believe it if Anne or Romeo told them, and they haven't learned how to possess people yet, but they aren't sure how else they can reach the two. The wedding doesn't happen, and is replaced with a funeral where the Capulet parents still insist on Juliet returning to Verona. Perhaps May starts throwing things at Lord and Lady Cap, giving Juliet and Francois the first sign that they're still with them.
Is there any consensus on character birthdays for &J? Juliet and Will have canon birthdays (July 31 and April 23rd respectively) (Anne’s birthday is not documented) but the rest of them just kinda exist. I think they deserve birthdays

Thinking about Maycois wedding. Lance probably wouldn't try to get Frankie to wear the chestplate this time around, and Frankie would probably be stressed tf out in the weeks before trying to find something to wear like "Okay does this look good. Are you sure. Do you think May will like it. I don't care if it's more my preference that matters, I want May to like it too!"
Juliet would be the maid of honor of course, I think Frankie would probably choose Romeo to be the best man, bachelor parties would be the time of everyone's lives on both sides, and I feel like there would be a friendly fight between some of the players for who gets to be the flower person.
While the planning is starting, there is a road block on who would walk May down the aisle, since their father isn't present (and based on what we agree on about May's backstory, I don't think they would want their father present). They probably choose Angelique, since she seems like she'd be a parental figure to May.
The one thing Lance is a bit insistent on, however, is a callback to Du Bois Band at the first wedding since he thinks it would be a waste of boy band costumes to only use them once. He gives suggestions here and there, but ultimately this time around he leaves it up to Frankie and May what they want to do.
i hope i am not just a mutual to you but also the strange creature in your bushes that makes you say “jesus fucking christ what was that”
