hey doggo, dunno if someone already asked, but why is phonegingi called phonegingi? like where did the name come from it's just so... phonegingi yk what im saying

The story of how gingi got his name was so stupid. When I was working on DT, I had a random playlist of youtube videos playing in the BG, y'know, to break up the monotony. Anyway, an OneyPlays animated came up, I thiiink it was the President Ding Dong sketch? A character appears for a moment and one of the guys makes up the name "Bagingi" for it on the spot. I had no clue at that point what Gingi's name was gonna be, I had everything but the name. I also had "bagingi" on loop in my head since i heard it for some reason, so i said "fuck it! phonegingi will do as a temporary name", and vowed i'd think of a better default name later. While a few friends of mine were helping me test an alpha build of DT with the first draft of randy's route inside, I pitched some new names that I'd come up with to replace the placeholder name I had for this creature which was, ofc, Phonegingi. I don't remember any of the pitches off the top of my head other than 'frankenphone' and none of the testers wanted me to change the character's name. None of them knew the name was meant to be a stupid dumb placeholder and got really attached to it. So I looked at the stupid nonsense name that i'd given to my protagonist that meant nothing and said "yeah ok this suits the kind of person gingi is." The end.

I'm going so crazy about Aqua making Ai's signature pose. Everyone always compares him to his dad and Ruby to Ai but I'm much more interested in the other way around.

Ruby currently seems to have the same hatred for the entertainment industry that Kamiki does (I assume, if he's targeting famous actresses). I could be embarrassingly wrong, but Aqua's stance on the industry is that it's corrupt but he can destroy it, whereas Ruby/Kamiki's is "I'm part of a corrupt system and I've become corrupt too). I wonder what Ai thought of it?

Back to Aqua and Ai, the manga keeps implying that one of the objectives of the movie is to fulfill Ai's true wish (which is, I'm guessing to be loved for herself, secrets and all? No clue though). Aqua, in a sense, is acting as Ai's vessel now, looking beyond revenge and working towards accomplishing something that would actually make her happy. Revenge is still a priority though.

How Fujimoto is illustrating the emotional distance between Asa and Denji physically, by putting space between them, then heightening that with the speech bubble?!

Asa’s posturing is creating a wall. She's more concerned with spitting out these facts rather than getting to know Denji, or showing any vulnerability herself. She’s leaving no space for them to say anything else or to understand each other.

Even the facts themselves reinforce this distance, serving as an allegory for the situation. Indirectly, they reference Asa and Denji’s traits and secrets.

How anemones can go a long time without food or proper care? Denji grew up hungry, without anyone to look out for him.

How anemones actually house anemonefish? How they survive alongside each other in a symbiotic relationship? Couldn’t be that both Asa and Denji also have symbiotic relationships with the devils living inside of them!

How there are lots of types of starfish but not all of them are star-shaped? There are lots of devils/fiends and they don’t all look like what we might expect. Asa and Denji similarly don’t know that the other is a fiend by appearance.

How starfish can eat practically anything? Uhhh. Denji. No further explanation.

How they’ll rip off their own arm to survive a predator? Asa is currently sacrificing her own morals to turn Denji into a weapon and escape Yoru. (This could also be possible foreshadowing where Asa will sacrifice herself/her physical body to save her morals instead — idk only time will tell). And let’s not forget how Denji sold his body parts to pay off his dad’s debt. Also the ripping out of his heart.

How they strip starfish down to eat them in the Kumamoto prefecture? Asa has to get to know Denji beyond surface level to create a good weapon out of him (which she’s currently avoiding doing now). Also also, to put it mildly, Denji's stripping down of the Control devil.

Alternatively, we could also say that the speech bubble is bridging the space, but with nothing but pretense.

Anyway. More than excited to see where this all goes. I can’t freaking handle it 😭!!
