The year is 2018. Your bills are on autopay. You just got paid and you still have $1200 from the last check. When you want something, you buy it without moving money around. Your credit cards are paid off. You and your friends have 2 international trips planned and paid for this year. Your parents are in great health and you’re able to help if they need anything. You love your job. Your desired creative career is falling into place and you get to take your little cousins to Six Flags and Universal Studios over the Summer. Your relationships are healthy and supportive. All of the toxic energy from the past 6 years is gone. You going to concerts, eating good across the states and your crib has art and warmth throughout. 2018 is going to be so good to you.

Yoga Workout - Learn how to do Yoga
Stuck at the hospital on weekend call today. One of my patients was an 83 year old lady who was getting her gallbladder removed. As I was doing my pre-anesthetic interview with her, she noticed the Yoda scrub hat I was wearing.
I gave her my spiel about what I was going to do, what to expect with the anesthesia, etc. Trying to allay any anxiety she might be feeling, I told her it was a simple surgery and that it shouldn’t be too exciting.
She smiled a weird little smile and said, “Adventure? heh. Excitement? heh. A Jedi craves not these things.” As I stood there at a loss for words, she wistfully said, “My grandchildren and I used to watch The Empire Strikes Back every weekend and play like we were Jedi - about 30 years ago.”
“Just ignore me”, she said, “I saw your cap and thought you would laugh.”
As I was staring at her blankly, I said the first thing that came into my head -“You are the coolest old lady I’ve ever met.” Not the most politically correct or polite thing to say, but I just opened my mouth and out it came. She laughed and put me at ease. I told her I had a lightsaber app on my iPhone and she asked to see it. I showed her how to use it, and she lay there swinging my phone around, smiling.
It has been the highlight of my day so far. I swear, since I have been working as a nurse anesthetist, the weirdest, coolest stuff seems to happen to me. I feel really good about the anesthetic I gave her, too. As I was pushing my induction drugs, I said in my best Yoda voice, “Go to sleep you will. Good dreams you will have.” She starting laughing as she drifted off to sleep, and it was a pretty darn good feeling.
Now all I hope is that I can get home at a decent hour so I can hit the gym. Two weeks ago I would have been wondering what they were serving in the cafeteria. I guess that’s progress…
