Honestly If Teleporters Ever Got Invented During My Lifetime I Would Be The Most Annoying Analog Boomer

honestly if teleporters ever got invented during my lifetime i would be the most annoying analog boomer about it. my grandkids would be like ugh, grandma, why don’t you just take a teleporter trip to come visit us, we all do it all the time and it’s obviously safe and i would be like absolutely not. it kills you and reconstitutes a copy with your exact memories. you are consciously my grandchildren and i do not hold it against you but i know in my heart that you are nothing but copies of copies of copies borne out of irresponsible technology use. i am not touching that devil’s elevator as long as i live. i will take an airplane and you will wait for the several hours it takes for me to come visit you

"Widow's Peak" sounds like the name of an edgy fantasy mountain, not the hair thing

But then the for-profit, privately operated prisons would lose the free labor that they rent out! Even worse, the prisoners would be more likely to successfully integrate into society upon release rather than reoffending, and THEN how are the prison corporations supposed to get their paycheck from Uncle Sam? I suppose that next, you’ll tell me that we shouldn’t even be imprisoning nonviolent marijuana users, or overpolicing urban areas inhabited by socioeconomically disadvantaged demographics. It’s like you don’t even respect how hard the prison lobbyists work to EARN the current system. Grow up

I'm not actually inherently against the idea of prison labour in the sense that I am not against fairly compensated, voluntary jobs for prisoners. If there was a well-regulated program in place to give prisoners jobs with the same paycheque anyone else in that field gets, with training, work experience, job skills, etc when they got out I'd be all for it. That way they'd have a proper resume and demonstrated skills to fall back on and could find work and rejoin society again on their own independence, like how rehabilitation is supposed to work. Actually, add some financial literacy and life skills education on top of that while they're serving their sentence, and you're setting them up for success rather than re-incarceration when they get out again. What I'm against is slave labour forced upon prisoners for pennies on the dollar, if they get anything at all.

Reblogging to add that crabs can in fact at least perform digital logic operations and that a billion of them could probably be programmed to run Doom

Robust Soldier Crab Ball Gate
arXiv.org
Soldier crabs Mictyris guinotae exhibit pronounced swarming behaviour. The swarms of the crabs tolerant of perturbations. In computer models

There was a paper in 2016 exploring how an ML model was differentiating between wolves and dogs with a really high accuracy, they found that for whatever reason the model seemed to *really* like looking at snow in images, as in thats what it pays attention to most.

Then it hit them. *oh.*

*all the images of wolves in our dataset has snow in the background*

*this little shit figured it was easier to just learn how to detect snow than to actually learn the difference between huskies and wolves. because snow = wolf*

Shit like this happens *so often*. People think trainning models is like this exact coding programmer hackerman thing when its more like, coralling a bunch of sentient crabs that can do calculus but like at the end of the day theyre still fucking crabs.
