the way rottmnt portrays the cycle of sacrifice and generational trauma through the concept of the hamato tradition is so beyond phenomenal it’s really hard to articulate with just words how hard it really hits. there’s so many parallels btwn splinter & his history/family than can be seen within raph & leo that can also almost be translated to f!leo & casey in some ways, not to mention the parallels btwn karai and leo as well.

the way splinter tried SO hard to break from that cycle, the way he saw how it effected his family and himself and didn’t want to put his family through it again yet it seemed to be inevitable regardless. he never wanted to have to choose btwn his family and the world and yet even when he made that choice in S1, in the end he still ended up losing a family member (karai) in exchange for time to save the world.

and even though he tried to break the chain so hard, the cycle of sacrifice was still adopted into raph and leo in different ways which was later passed down to donnie and mikey.

not to mention the future timeline where they ended up losing EVERYBODY and in the end of the movie casey is met with the same choice of the world over family just as many family members before him have.

the sacrificial bone and need to protect is just so ingrained into the entire family, to the point where the same events just seem to happen over and over no matter what is done.

the cycle of love and loss, protection and sacrifice, family vs the world. over and over.

So I would like to make a post about food allergies given the information I've been taught by my allergist regarding my food allergies.

The difference between food allergy, sensitivity, and intolerance.

Allergy. This is the classic anaphylaxis.

Sensitivity. This is caused by allergies, but the risk here isn't anaphylaxis. It's inflammation in gut that can cause fatigue, nausea, diarrhea, constipation, generalized ick feeling.

Intolerance. Your body is literally unable to process the food. It lacks the ability to, which means the food causes inflammation in the gut, causing similar symptoms as sensitivity.

Sensitivities will show up on an allergy test. Intolerance has to take a different test specific for that type of intolerance.

I mention this because I see a lot of fake claiming food allergies that's like "Yeah but I cross contaminated the food with eggs and that didn't kill her. She must be lying." Yeah food sensitivities can be pretty mild. Where if you give them an egg salad, they're gonna be having a bad day. But if you rub egg on their burger, they may not even notice.

Also like there's a lot of medical conditions that can affect a person's diet. They may have stomach issues that means they can't eat a lot of acidic foods, and if saying "Hey, I'm allergic to pineapple" gets you to not put pineapple juice in their drink because it'll cause a flare-up. I'm all for people doing whatever they need to make sure their health is taken seriously. Even if it's outright lying because food allergies is the only fucking thing people seem to take seriously in this world.

Anyways take people's "I can't eat this food" seriously. And don't fake claim them if they go "I can't eat this food but I'm not at risk if there's cross contamination"

A kinda-chunky info comic(?) about asexuality and aromanticism, in celebration of International Asexuality Day today!!

Also, I’m not trying to erase asexual representation today by explaining aromanticism as well, I just thought it would be useful to explain both in this comic, as they’re so closely related, and I’m not sure the next opportunity I’ll get to make a whole other comic for aromantics. Not to mention I’m both, and don’t want to explain asexuality in a skewed or inaccurate way because of that fact

The racism in TMNT is a massive problem, not just looking at Splinter (and if I get started on the fandom we would be here for a while). There’s a side character in Rise, Hypno-Potamus, who is a whole mess of stereotypes about Romani people (his human design especially is a nightmare and as someone who is mixed Romani they really could’ve done better. They also could’ve done worse but I digress.) But yeah, just felt the need to point that out since no one else has and seeing you speak on the racism in TMNT reminded me of it. NO GENUINELY WITH HYPNO I THINK ABOUT THAT ALL TIME. it's something that always turns me off from his character because they had No Reason to base him off of Romani stereotypes. They could have just made him a funky magician and it would have changed nothing, but they just Had To Do something racist. What was the point??

And it just loops back around to all this other racist shit that tmnt can get away with, just because it's tmnt. Like on a meta level, WHERE ARE THE JAPANESE ARTISTS. Where are the Japanese show runners and voice actors, why is there so little connection to Japanese culture when Ninja is IN THE DAMN NAME. It feels like there's NOTHING being done to try and move away from the orientalist, westernization of their Japanese heritage. Fuck, MUTANT MAYHEM WAS ENTIRELY ABOUT THAT. The only reason they had any attachment to Asia was through western pop culture and movies.

Something that just, god it makes my blood fucking boil, is how the only tmnt media that tried to remedy this, from the beginning, was ROTTMNT. (And there are still! So many racism issues! Ghost Bear's entire character (WTF), Hypno's design. So much other shit.) The show which is largely hailed as the worst iteration. And I am so terrified for what that means for the way Japanese culture is treated in the future of tmnt.
