unpopular opinion but i think a lot of the things that people think are “pretentious” aren’t actually pretentious - they just require a little more effort & intentionality on the reader / viewer’s part to understand. but bc we’re so used to mass produced media and instant, consumable content, we’ve come to take for granted that knowledge & information can be instantaneously grasped, digested and absorbed without any real participation or action from us. if people were actually looking to criticise pretentiousness, they would call out the classism & racism of ivory tower intellectualism and its cultural manifestations, not whine about how “inaccessible” media that don’t treat their audience like idiots are

Taking the bus: boring

Taking the bus while listening to classical music: Peasants. I’m a promising student on my way to an elite university. My wardrobe purely consists of expensive shirts and suits. I always carry a book around because I’m the epitome of intelligence. My decadent and hedonistic lifestyle will ultimately result in my demise.

Dear White People is very important and well written, but lately I’ve been hearing white people say that because of that show they realize there’s a race problem in America and they had no idea that African Americans were treated like this, and that really pisses me off. I’m white and you know what? I read the news, I listen to what my black friends have to say, it shouldn’t take a tv show for you to figure it out. For this reason though I’m really grateful to the show cause its waking people up, but it shouldn’t have to.

this is a friendly little reminder @ the skam fandom that:

- sana and the balloon squad are all poc, stop erasing that part of them

- if you are a racist and islamophobic person then please leave because no one needs whites who fetishize white mlm but hate on every poc/muslim character

- if you are white and poc call you out on being racist then you cannot argue back saying you were not racist or that they are being racist towards you because listen up REVERSE RACISM IS NOT FUCKING REAL

- stop sending shit to any muslim and/or poc in this fandom and stop correcting them because listen up buddy, us white people do NOT get to say what is or is not racist

Ok so let’s take a minute and talk about how the three repeated pillars of Jeresa’s relationship are:

“We’re in this together.” Meaning they have each other’s back. They protect each other. They don’t have to go through any of this alone and they share that responsibility no matter what. They are partners.

“I’m not leaving.” They’re here to stay. Which for someone like Teresa who has a history of abandonment and trust issues is super important to know you have someone that’s not going to leave you. That cares enough to stick it out with them. And I bet you my entire ass, she’s also the first person that ever came back for James. This is really probably the first time either of them have someone to count on to not leave them behind no matter what. Someone that’s gonna stick it out through the struggles and the danger because they care enough to.

“You don’t have to hide from me.” Um fuck me up with this one. For James, who basically hates himself for the things he’s done and Teresa, who isolates her feelings because she can’t trust people this is big. They can be who they are. They don’t have to pretend or hide parts of themselves because their relationship is open and that’s why they can have these conversations about their fears and their insecurities and work through all their problems. They understand each other and there’s no judgement just acceptance and the shared need to move forward.

Like um excuse me, have you ever seen such a healthy, mature duo in your life? Yeah they have problems and they fight, but they work through it because it matters. I am such trash for them. This is the kind of partnership I deserve. Ugh they’re so powerful.
