Stop reposting art from Japanese artists

and stop reblogging reposted art from Japanese artists. Stop spreading it around. This gives reposters (as well as regular fans) the impression that reposting art is acceptable. It’s not. It’s harmful to both the original artist and the fanbase.

First off, it’s against pixiv’s terms of service (Act 13, article 2). If you can’t read Japanese, a simple run through Google translate will do the work. It’s also right at the top of the help page in English. Because it’s literally only Western fans who do this. Outside of pixiv, on their private websites, most Japanese artists say clearly in English to not repost their work. This screenshot is just one example of many. I don’t want to link to some actual websites for obvious reasons.

Fanart— especially nsfw/R18 fanart— is on shaky legal ground in Japan. Copyright holders are generally willing to turn a blind eye to private websites and pixiv, but are not always able to if a certain fanart gets spread around too much.  The most common example is how popular fanart makes its way to unofficial bootleg merch. You see it all the time at anime cons, where fanart gets mass-produced for profit and promoted as official merch. The original fanartists can get sued (or otherwise punished) for stuff like this, despite not having anything to do with it. Many fanartists are also professional manga artists, and they run the risk of losing their job due to copyright issues and out of fear for their publisher’s reputation.

But even besides legal issues, it’s plainly disrespectful. 

Art you find on the internet does not belong to you. You have no right to take and edit and redistribute someone else’s work.

Common excuses I see are:

“But I always source!!!” GREAT… BUT YOU’RE STILL REPOSTING ART WITHOUT PERMISSION. Crediting the artist doesn’t suddenly make it alright to do whatever you want with their work.

“I can’t speak Japanese so I can’t ask permission!!” There’s Google translate and many websites that offer Japanese lessons. Language barriers should not be a problem.

“They put it online, so it’s their fault it’s getting stolen/edited.” Nice victim-blaming. Artists put their stuff online for their own enjoyment, not for other people to do with it as they please. Artists have deleted entire galleries because of this. Artists have even stopped drawing completely because of this.

…There is no excuse for being disrespectful. Stop trying to defend your rude behaviour and instead just respect artists.

If you absolutely must repost art, this blog has a lot of tutorials for non-Japanese speakers on how to ask for permission.

This is directed toward people who reblog reposted art just as much as it is toward reposters. When you reblog reposted art, you are perpetuating the problem. If you absolutely must reblog reposted art, don’t reblog it unless it clearly says that it was reposted with permission!! Not to mention the fact that many pixiv artists also have blogs on tumblr if you cared to look.

OK SO DORAEMON IS AN EXTREMELY SUPER RLLY RLLY RLLY GOOD ANIME/MANGA MADE BY FUJIKO F FUJIO (Hiroshi Fujimoto) AND FUJIKO A FUIJO (Motoo Abiko)! (the concept was made by Fujiko F Fuijo, A helped produce it) It's about a robot cat from the year 2112 named Doraemon and he's sent back to the 21st century (or 20th century depending on when the episode was made bc this series has been going on since 1969) by Nobita's great great grandson, Sewashi to help Nobita bc he's extremely unlucky and bullied!! (me personally, I extremely headcanon he has inattentive ADHD bc he displays every trait but thts a rant for another time) Doraemon has a pocket on his belly tht is called the 4D POCKET!!!!! It has tons of gadgets tht help them when they're in trouble or they're bored or whatever!! EEEE THIS SERIES IS SO DANG COOOOOL!!! Also, it has a 1979 and 2005 version!! The 2005 version got a dub made by Bang Zoom! and was aired on Disney XD from 2014-2016!

(not all of it is eng subbed and same goes for Doraemon's main series, but ofc Doraemon's more complete)

OK SO this has Dorabase, Doraemon, Doraemon Long Stories, and The Doraemons manga!!! I'm not 100% sure if it's all complete but it is ALOT of manga!!!! Also this has other manga that Fujiko F Fujio made, such as Chinpui! I think they also have stuff tht Fujiko A Fujio made! (They tend to be quite dark and black comedy, except Ninja Hattori! My fav manga he made is The Laughing Salesman!)

The Doraemons!

I made a playlist that has all completed and good engsubs of The Doraemons!!!! There is another special called "The World of Ace's Christmas Special" but sadly it's only subbed in Chinese.

SO I TOLD U ALL IK ABT THE OVERVIEW AND WHATS ITS ABOUT RIGHT? But not sm as to why u should watch it, why I like it, and how I was introduced!

I think u should watch it because it's like SUPER COOL! It's about scifi and the future and all tht! It's also teaches morals and whatnot. And also, like One Piece the genre goes around in movies and some episodes while staying pretty into sci-fi, adventure, and comedy! It's very imaginative and creative and yeah! Basically, it has smth in it for everyone!

I LIKE IT because of what I said right there! It ties alot into what I think is cool and what I wanna be when I grow up! I wanna be an astronaut and traveling space is one of the things I wanna do! Doraemon talks abt alot of stuff about future technology, time travel, space travel, etc. It's also been actually influencing that IRL!! For example, in 2021,a new dinosaur species in China was named Eubrontes Nobitai!! They named the species after Nobita (also called Noby).

I was introduced when I went over to my cousin's house in 2014 (I was 7 then) and they had recorded Doraemon on their DVR bc it had premiered on Disney XD and they thought I'd like it! (I did, alot) After it stopped airing, the show was just in the back of my head until COVID hit and I was like "hey that robot cat did exist" during virtual school and I was hooked!

So yeah, that's all abt Doraemon! It's extremely popular in Japan, India, and Italy but it deserves sm more popularity and recognition and love than it gets. Sm ppl have put in hard work (especially the authors) and yeah! ALSO please do check out the other things Fujiko F and Fujiko A made!!
