Danny: You think because they're the same species as me they'll listen? No. Some people just hate and hate because they WANT TO. I can't change people. Some people just don't care. I'm fourteen. It's not my job to fix other people. YOU break them up. You volunteered for this, you want to fix it, you go ahead and try. There is no right side here, and so few are willing to listen. I was on my own. Now it's your turn.
“That’s it! I give up!” Phantom yelled. As though he had said something blasphemous, all fighting stopped as the participants stared in confusion. “You humans think you’re the paragon of all existence, proclaiming that anything different is lesser. Well we aren’t! We’re just as sentient as you are, and we have thoughts and feelings! You just choose to ignore it so you can justify your xenophobic actions!”
Phantom turned to Technus, who had frozen in shock as Phantom went on his tirade. “And you! Tell the other ghosts I’m done saving them, too, because none of you care! You don’t care if property is destroyed, or if humans get hurt, or if other ghosts get hurt! All you care about is your stupid Obsessions! You’re too caught up in your own mind to see what you’re doing to everyone around you!”
“But your Obsession is Protection, is it not? You’ve never stepped down from a fight-“ Technus began. Phantom didn’t let him finish.
“My Obsession is Space! If I had my way, I’d spend my nights stargazing, or maybe even on the moon! Instead I’m stuck cleaning up your messes because you can’t control yourselves!” Phantom growled. He glared at the crowd of people who had gathered, curious as to why all fighting had stopped.
“Humans are cruel and hateful. Ghosts are ignorant and careless. I’m tired of wasting my time protecting both sides from the other and being blamed for it. I quit. If anyone dies, or is captured, it’s no longer my problem.“
Like that, Phantom vanished.
The Fentons celebrated, not even noticing Technus make his own escape. The crowd murmured, worry just as prevalent as confidence. The few phones that were recording the event were put away, and later the footage would be checked. Unfortunately, most recordings were corrupted beyond recognition.
Most, but not all.

Amity Park. Ground Zero for the start of the war between the Living and the Dead. Humanity and Ghosts.
Why it had only recently escalated to this, Batman couldn’t tell. His research found that there had been a portal opened to the Realms years ago, and the laws passed just a year after that. Most of the town was stuck behind an information blackout that the government refused to give access to. Whatever happened, Constantine assured him that it was almost certainly the government’s fault.
After almost three weeks of trying to get beyond the firewalls, he finally figured it out. “Research” that claimed ghosts were nothing but evil. News articles calling “Phantom” a troublemaker. Forums that spoke about how “Phantom” ruined the town while fighting other ghosts.
A video, old and grainy but still clear enough to be used as evidence. A glowing, white-haired boy that told everyone he was done. That he was tired of fixing everything. Of saving everyone. That nobody was good, everyone was bad, and they were on their own.
They used to have a hero, but Phantom left. Without him, both sides tore at each other until there was nothing but an all-out assault. They needed to stop this, but without a mediator they would not make it through to the ghosts.
If they could find Phantom, perhaps they could fix everything before it was too late.

it’s almost that time of the year :)
"That implies there's a good death juice and I take offense at that,"
"Oh fair. But you've never had ecto-boba, so I'm gonna ask you to reserve your opinion until you can try it,"
"Is that a date?"
"It is if you want it to be. But maybe we should move out of the middle of the sidewalk, I think that guy over there is thinking whether or not to mug us."
"Oh, right. Gotham,"
Dead on Main Soulmate AU
First words your soulmate says to you are written on your skin. Jason didn’t understand his for a long time- it looks like an insult, but he has absolutely no idea what it means, both before and after his death.
Eventually, it starts to make a slight bit more sense as Trendy Lingo advanced, and he hears Steph and Tim and some other teens using something similar. Still, he doesn’t understand why they’re said, and he’s unprepared for when he’s approached randomly by some guy while walking down the street after a particularly violent pit rage.
“Sir, your vibes are rancid.”
Jason freezes. The pit writhes in offense, because what the fuck, but at the same time his heart is beating out of his chest, because what the fuck?
“Oh ancients that sounded rude.” The guy says, eyes widening like he can’t believe he said that. “I mean- I just- are you okay? You don’t feel okay. You feel really, really sick, like your soul got marinated in corrupted ecto, and do you want help?”
Jason keeps staring. The guy is cute, dark hair and blue eyes that seem just a bit too bright to be human, freckles disappearing behind an embarrassed flush.
“I don’t want to overstep, because you’re giving off a whole lot of “fuck off don’t talk to me”, but I didn’t wanna just ignore you because I’m pretty sure a lot of the anger and bad vibes are coming from the corrupted stuff and I’m pretty sure I can help with that? If you don’t want help just tell me to fuck off or punch me in the face and I’ll leave but-”
The stranger takes a nervous step away, and Jason lunges forwards before he can think, everything in him rebelling at the thought of his soulmate leaving, from his own thoughts to the pits themselves.
“Please don’t leave.” He gasps, hands squeezed tight to his soulmates arm despite the twinge of pain from his bloodied knuckles. His soulmate’s eyes widen in shock, mouth dropped open, before he breaks into a bright, amazed grin.
“I won’t, I promise.” His soulmate says, reaching up to hold onto Jason’s arms in turn. His touch is cold, even through Jason’s jacket. “I’m staying right here.”
Jason leans into the touch, sagging with relief. He can feel the pits receding, the anger and pain and fear fading as his soulmate gently runs his hand over his back.
He feels, for the first time in a long time, at peace.
“…seriously though, wtf happened to you, you reek of bad death juice.”
Danny: I'm not dealing with another crazy, evil rich person!
Damian: Evil?
Dick: Another?
Bruce, concerned: I promise I'm not evil.
Danny: That's exactly what an evil rich person would say.
He's seen it in action. It's...decent. It has weapons and stuff, sure. However; it could be so much better than it is, it just needs some tweaking.
So he pulls out some tools from his backpack and bypasses the security system, getting to work. Dick, covering for Bruce and being Batman for the night, returns from his solo patrol to the Batmobile-only to see a scrawny runaway kid elbow deep in the engine.
In his ear, he can hear Jason laughing at him.
@simplestoryteller
Danny: You left me! Alone! I needed you and you weren't there! (Talking about Constantine leaving him to deal with the ghost portal, that fucker)
Constantine: You're a big kid. You handled it. You're not my responsibility. (Danny had it under control, and Constantine does not want to touch Amity park with a ten foot pole)

Phantom shows up sometime later and Val tries to shoot him. Given that it looks like a teenager, people who don't like it when kids get hurt (some of the villains have ethical codes, so there's at least some in that group) are extremely alarmed. Phantom ducks into an alley. Out of it ducks Danny.
Val is highly offended, Phantom KIDNAPPED he friend/(ex)boyfriend?!! Cue monologue.
Danny is just quietly wandering around, looking at the JL and villains. Sometimes he stares right into their eyes for a minute. It's highly uncomfortable. Sometimes he sniffs them. It's very weird. When he's done with his examination, he takes out his phone and starts scrolling.
Val eventually takes a deep breath, and asks what Danny is doing there. Danny says that Phantom thought that he had a better chance of convincing Val to come with them back home. Val argues that she can't until she knows who the heroes are. Danny declares that he knows which are the heroes and which are the villains.
Everyone is gobsmacked. This kid, from wandering around and looking at people, knows who's who? Everyone is sweating, hero and villain alike. Danny tucks his phone into his pocket and starts pacing.
"So, the majority of heroes generally have emblems on their costumes, but as both groups have it, and yes there are definitely groups, look at who the glance at and angle themselves towards, it is not a definitive marker. So! We must turn towards a different source. Colour theory! Looking at the overall group formations, the majority of people wearing bright colours are that group," Danny indicated the heroes, "while the others," he indicated the villains, "have a darker colour scheme. That, of course, is not enough to go off of. After all, tall dark and scary over there," Danny indicated Batman, "Wears almost entirely black and gray despite being part of the bright colour group. There is one factor, that I believe all of you failed to consider," Danny stopped his pacing and paused.
Silence reigned in the torn streets. "What is it?" Val asked.
Danny pulled out his phone again, unlocked it, and held up the screen. "Google search of this world's heroes. It turned up a Justice League which is made up of individual heroes who've come together to protect this planet. These," he gestured widely to the colourful medley that made up the Justice Leauge, "Are the heroes,"
Everyone's breath is held as they watch Val's reaction. She turns towards the heroes. "I'm sorry for attacking you, I didn't know who was who. Danny, could you please start untying them?" They release a collective breath.
Danny moved towards Batman first, who stood up and showed that his ropes were already untied. Danny moved towards a different hero and started helping them instead while Batman started to untie others.
"What about the cops, Danny?"
Danny turned towards Val.
"Acab,"
Valerie Gray did not notice the portal in front of her. She really should’ve paid more attention when chasing Phantom through the Ghost Zone. She just had to know what he did with those ghosts after he caught them, but she probably should’ve tried a more stealthy approach to it. She would’ve rather talked with him than be in the situation she’s currently in.
Which is being stuck in another world with superheroes and supervillains that are currently fighting each other and she’s been dropped right on the outskirts of this battle. So what does she do?
Dive in headfirst of course, shooting at literary everyone in a desperate attempt to figure out who the hell the superheroes are. Probably not the best way to figure it out, but she has no idea what else to do.
Everyone else is just as confused as Val is when she shows up out of nowhere and decides everyone’s an enemy to her.
Fanart for @st-whalefall and their amazing fic 'In the Hall of the Mountain King'! It's such an incredible piece of writing with beautiful metaphors, intriguing character dynamics, and a really interesting setting. Uh, spoilers for the first two chapters as well, I suppose!
Yo! I'm Lira, she/her, LiraBuswavi on Ao3, and I'm just here to have a good time. The header is fanart I received for a fanfic I wrote! Check out @doodlesforfics, they're an amazing artist.
