Jack Kelly’s real name is Francis Sullivan, that’s just common knowledge. But that might not be the whole ordeal.

My dad is from Cork, Ireland and is semi-fluent in Gaelic. Today we were having a conversation about Irish names, and he said that his favorite name is “Proinnsias” (pronounced pron-chee-us) which is the Gaelic name for Francis. Considering that most newsies are first or second generation immigrants from Ireland, that means that Jack Kelly’s real name is Proinnsias Sullivan. But that’s not even the best part. Proinnsias in Gaelic means “little French man”. So Jack Kelly’s real name is really “Little French man Sullivan” and I can’t stop laughing about it.

MY NEWSIES AUDITION IS DONE! i went for jack and I really hope I get it but either way ill be absolutely stoked to be in the production ........ cast list comes out on Dec 18th .... pray for my nerves

Jack writes in a diary, but instead of titling it like others would with "Dear Diary" He directs each entry to a different Newsie. He finds it easier to let it all out if his mind thinks he's writing all this to somebody. His diary entries are really more like letters he'll never send.

We got some new kids today, Davey and his brother Les. Les thought I was pretty cool, Davey might take a little more convincing. They seem pretty sound though, they got parents and a flat, the whole nine yards, y'know?
