Race: I made you breakfast π₯°ππβ¨οΈ
Spot: it's burnt
Race: yeah well.
Race: it's made with love. Not skill

"Jack," David's voice rings softly, laughing as quietly as he can, his arm linked with Jack's. "We- hah- we've been walkin' for years. Let me kiss you?"
They're a little over halfway back to Jack's apartment, a small one-bedroom he was able to scrounge up enough money for, now that he's working for The World. It's nothing fancy, and it's not in a good part of town, but it's home.
It's become somewhat of a home to Davey, too, but that's just another perk, Jack thinks.
"We're almost there," Jack says with a grin, then gasps as David stumbles- he nearly falls over, but he rights himself and laughs, which causes Jack to roll his eyes fondly. "You really can't handle your alcohol, can ya, Mouth?"
The occasion for the night: dinner with Katherine and Sarah, mixed with top-shelf drinks and better food than Jack's had in months. Jack himself is just this side of tipsy, but he feels good, and David is at least sober enough to walk.
They only make it another block before Jack feels his arm tugged, and suddenly he's pulled into an alley by the tall brunette walking next to him. Jack grins as his back makes contact with a brick building.
"Davey," Jack laughs, running his hand through David's hair as he starts peppering kisses on Jack's face. "We're almost home, okay? Then you can kiss me all ya want, I promise."
"Fine... I just love you," David whispers, eyes bright with a wide, toothy grin- a goofy looking one, lopsided and showing his barely crooked teeth, nose scrunched up with the force of it. Not the practiced, picture-perfect smile Jack has come to know and love. "Did you know that?"
Jack's heart soars, and he can't help but chuckle. They're in public, and they have to be quiet, but hearing David say those words so plainly? It makes Jack's head swim. "I love you too," He murmurs, leaning up and brushing the tip of his nose to David's. Finally, he presses a soft kiss to David's lips, and David laughs into it, giddy and high-pitched and perfect.
After a few more drunken, messy kisses, David and Jack walk the final seven minutes home. Maybe David will feel humiliated in the morning, maybe David will regret acting so loosely, so freely. Maybe David will feel like he's too much.
But Jack will be there regardless, and take as much David as David allows himself to show.
JoJo's nightly prayer was usually a comforting sound to Elmer. He may not be religious himself, but the soft murmur of his best friend's voice as he prayed lulled him to sleep most nights.
Not tonight, though. Tonight the sound distressed him.
Jack wasn't on the roof, even he had enough sense to sleep inside when it was cold. So Elmer slipped down from his bunk and crept over to the window, scuttling up the ladder. He wasn't allowed on the roof without one of the older boys, according to Jack, but right now Elmer didn't care what Jack did or didn't allow.
"Um... hullo, God. Or Jesus. Whichever of you are listening." He didn't kneel, or clasp his hands, but he did lift his head to stare up at the big white moon, faintly through the wispy clouds.
"I know JoJo's praying at the moment, and you should listen to him, but I hope one'a you can listen to me." He paused, trying to collect his thoughts.
"Romeo's dad came by again today. He scares me- not as much as he scares Romeo, 'course. Mush scared him off 'fore Kloppman even got to the door though. An' Sniper's dad came by yesterday. I dunno why Sniper keeps going home when he hurts him like that. That's what I wanted to ask you; why d'you let people hurt other people?"
A particularly sharp gust of wind bit at his bare arms. JoJo would probably say it was a Sign, that he was asking questions he shouldn't, but Elmer was tired of the questions building up inside him.
"Why- why did you let Mr. Wiesel an' the Delanceys and the police hurt us during the strike? Why did you let Mr. Pulitzer and Hearst raise their prices, when you must know how we live?" His voice was trembling now, increasing in volume unintentionally, "Why'd JoJo get sent on a ship here alone over a war that never even happened- n-not that I'm not happy he's here, but he doesn't know how to find his parents! Half my friends can't be with their family for one reason or 'nother, an' the other half are terrified of them! Why d'you let that happen? Why did you let my mama send me away? I don't know what I did wrong!"
Elmer was shouting now, his cheeks damp and vision blurred with tears. He didn't even realise. Someone was speaking to him, although he couldn't make out what they were saying. He felt warm, safe arms suddenly wrap around him, pulling him close against someone's chest and turning his face away from the moon.
The moon gave no answer to his questions, and neither did anyone else.
conclusion: newsiesblr is way bigger than I thought, i came on here legit thinking there'd be like 4 people ... guess I was wrong ... that's ok tho I love that this fandom is still alive !!
guys how extensive is newsiesblr??? can everyone active on newsiesblr who sees this interact ... I wanna follow everybody :3
Albert who chews gum and bites on a necklace when heβs nervous. Albert who bites his friends shoulders when heβs comfortable, but never enough to hurt. Just kinda a little nibble. Albert who grinds his teeth when he gets angry, who chews on hoodie strings and pencils.
finally kicked my art block so have some jack kelly spouting teenage boy nonsense at poor katherine as a treat ( what do you mean this isn't their post-world will know scene in a nutshell?? )
ok so. jack was denied physical touch for all of his life, and the newsies aren't really big on it. jack sought out physical touch through playful slaps and shadow boxing, and flopping his arm over someone's shoulder as inconspicuously as possible.
Davey sees straight through it ... and he lets jack do his thing. lets jack shadow box him and rub his shoulders and offer to give him back massages and beat him up out of love ... because he knows jack needs that kind of validation ... (meanwhile jacks thinking he's the most inconspicuous guy ever)
so when jack starts gravitating towards davey, davey takes that as a success . jack feels safe around him ... and davey knows, especially regarding jacks past, that this is a feat. to be this close with jack, who only ever let his walls all the way down around crutchie ...
and when jack confesses thag he has feelings for davey, Davey can't help but celebrate on the inside. sure, he's had feelings for jack for ages too, but davey takes the greatest joy in the fact that he is one of jacks few safe people ....
