Thank you to @kevinandwhizzer for letting me use their notes! Please check out their blog it has amazing art and lots of Albert love
These are just the little things Albert does that lead me to head canon him as being on the spectrum
Albert doesn’t really understand social cues
Taking Race’s cigar out of his mouth
He looks kind of confused when the other Newsies react negatively to “If you can find her”
“I’m just reporting the news.”
He seems to struggle with emotions
His facial expressions are a little slower than the other Newsies, like he’s either observing and acting to fit in or he’s processing the emotion a little later than everyone else
Touch
Lots of unnecessary touching throughout the show (Mainly hits on the shoulder/chest or shaking someone’s shoulder)
He’s also pretty tactile with Romeo in the beginning of The World Will Know
and he holds hands with Crutchie after Morris shoves him
How uncomfortable he looks when Race suddenly grabs him in King of New York
He seems confused and tired a lot (No I’m not saying all Autistic people are always confused/tired)
There’s always a lot going on, especially during the strike where everything is changing. Which could be really confusing and distressing
Plus the Newsies are really loud, which probably gets overstimulating (idk about you but I get so tired after being overstimulated)
Still doesn’t understand what Race means by “The worlds yer erster” even when it’s cleared up that he meant to say “oyster”
Hyperactive or “fidgety”
Really fidgety and looks kind of uncomfortable while waiting in line. He’s looking around a lot, trying to occupy his hands by adjusting his clothes, and just shifting his weight and moving his body
Constantly adjusting his stance in the scene before The World Will Know (Putting his leg up and down, adjusting his bag, holding on to/letting go of the newscart railing)
All of the different positions he sits in when we first see Jacobi’s, he plays with his hands for a bit
The mouth thing he does before King of New York, along with playing with the stick and his clothes
Thanks the waiter at Jacobi’s for giving him water even though he picked fun at him
Lots of Autistic folk have trouble understanding when they’re being made fun of. Albert just knows he’s supposed to say thank you when he’s given something
kevinandwhizzer mentions in their post how they feel like Albert is the type to notice mundane things and that deserves an honorable mention
davey made cookies :) loosely inspired by an @incorrectuksies quote
maybe im just being autistic and applying my blorbos to everything but i just saw asteroid city and man. davey as a playwright. jack as a set designer. them meeting on the set of whats supposed to be daveys magnum opus, except davey doesn't entirely understand what the magnum opus is yet. it's there, it's coming, but it's not done. jack and davey clashing on ideas, getting into fights and not being able to explain themselves properly, hashing those fights out and kissing many, many times. davey creating plays within plays within plays because theres so much he wants to say in so many different ways if he could just figure out how he's supposed to say them, and jack's trying his hardest to keep up despite how confused he is because theres something there with davey, something life-changing, and jack desperately wants to see it through.
davey getting into a car accident a few months into production. the scenes and dialogue and set pieces and tiny tiny details that davey was so passionate about despite not entirely understanding them yet, all being cut for run time. until what was meant to be his greatest creation ends up... unfinished. incomplete.
(jack tries to get it. he doesn't get it. it's davey's life's work and he's not getting it)
jack mourning a relationship that barely even happened. jack trying to paint. jack's paintings never coming out right, not what they used to be, not what they could've been. jack living with the loss of something that hadn't even really been there yet. jack knowing that something could've happened here that changed him entirely, if it hadn't been cut off halfway through.
Crutchie is such a gossip but like in a quiet sort of way. Like this mf regularly sees shit go down and then leans over to someone the next day and goes "I'm not one to speculate but..." and drops the hottest tea you've ever heard in your pathetic life
just had a psychiatry assessment today I am NOT schizophrenic!! 🎉🎉
something to believe in javey ........ not to dismiss katherine she's awesome ... but I need gay ..
Jack starts reading bc he knows davey loves to read btw. jack reads poetry so he can understand the way davey's mind works. he spends hours trying to make himself feel like he's worthy of davey's love. like he's enough for Davey to love, not just a husk of a man who lost his hope long ago. after the strike, and after jack finally settles down and starts living in a small flat in lower manhattan, he feels empty. without any reason to keep going except his job as a waiter, he spends a lot of time thinking. thinking about how he might never see Davey again, and that everything that happened between them was incidental to him, not like how it changed jack permanently.
what if he meant nothing to Davey? what if Davey truly forgot about jack? what if Davey never really cared???
my 2 gay sons
javey but jack has to stand on a stair to get to davey's eye level. javey but jack has to go on tiptoe AND pull davey down to kiss him. davey who is long and gangly who doesn't know what to do with himself when this happens. davey who trips over often bc jack is staring at him and it makes him nervous. jack with no dignity who stares openly, eyes boring into davey. race who makes fun of davey for this at every possible opportunity. davey who did NOT sign up for this ... long Davey x short but STRONG jack .... thank you for coming to my Ted talk
he/him media enjoyer • roman/rome • australian, 17 • javey&ralbert centric • always down for a chat !!
