DC STANDS FOR DUKE & CASS COMICS
hi do you know where I can find a list of all of duke's comic appearances? really struggling to find one!
Unfortunately there's no reading list I've found that encompasses all of his appearances 😔. @duketectivecomics has the closest one with all Duke appearances until Infinite Frontier, but after that it's really difficult to parse out the order of things. You could gamble with the DC fandom page of Duke's appearances which is accurate but out of order, it's a pain but it does tell you all his appearances. After duketectivecomics' list he only has a couple main roles anyway, which seem to be:
Batman: Urban Legends #18-19
Some sporadic appearances in Gotham War
DC Rise of the Power Company
As far as I know that's all, but obviously he cameos a lot in other books. This lack of an updated reading list is bothering me too so I might actually get on that myself, unless someone else has an updated list they want to share (in which case please do!!!). Sorry to not be of more help anon :(.
No because you see Duke was FORGED by his parents everything he does is in service of THEM to HONOUR their legacies. But Cass was forged IN SPITE of David Cain everything she does is not about HIM but to TAKE CONTROL of her destiny. And Batgirl was her, it was Cass it was all of her, it was the first thing she ever owned; and Robin was his but also theirs, it was Duke and his friends and Damian and the people Duke loves, it was something they shared. But now Cass shares Batgirl with Steph like a hoodie because she loves her, because she can now forge a community around her she never had as a kid. And now Duke becomes the Signal because he's forging his own path, because he's directly honouring his mother rather than using another mother's legacy, maintaining his focus on community but also celebrating what makes him special. They're SO DIFFERENT but they LOVE EACH OTHER and family is so so important to both of them do you even understand what it means for Duke to call Cass his sister??? And for Cass to let him??? These two people for whom family means very different things but is so fundamental to who they are, for them to meet and choose each other means THE WORLD. DUKE & CASS FOREVER
If you submitted a prompt and don't see it here, fear not! Hyper-specific prompts will be included as their own list for participants to use as inspiration :]
Using whatever criteria helps you decide which one you personally like better!
I think Duke would gets given a lot of gifts while on partol. It comes with working the day shift, really.
The first few weeks people were hesitant about a Bat being out during the day, some openly hostile, but now many see it as just a part of Gotham's charm.
One day, a girl runs up to him, holding a paper tightly to her chest. It was a drawing she made in class of Batman. The girl asks all shyly if Duke could give it to him and what was he meant to say? No?
So Gothamites started giving him things, first with kids crayon drawing, the some teens who made badges and pins, adults with letters of gratitude. Soon Duke was passing on drawings, t-shirts, crocheted dolls, poems, etc to all the batfamily.
Gothamites wanted to share their love to their heros. Bruce, Dick, Barbara, Cass, Damian, Stephanie, Tim, Kate, even Luke now had piles of trinkets after only three weeks.
One day, while on patrol as usual, a kid waved him down. He held poorly wrapped box in his hands. Duke swung down and took the box from the boy. When serching for the same he was shocked to find "Signal" written messy across the top.
Inside was a drawing of Duke a week ago, saving the boys dad who got trapped under his car. He hung to photo up on an empty wall in The Hatch.
Soon, that wall became more full than the rest of the family's piles.
When he gets in his own head, doubts clouding his brain, he stares at the wall. Art, photos, poems, letters, badges, stickers, patches, pins, shirts, dolls, shoes, all the items from Gotham, showing how he is loved by them. How he is their hero.
Duke still is asked to pass on gifts for the rest of the Batfamily, but more often he gets given gift for himself.
My most random Duke headcannon is that he would have a pet rabbit.
The rabbits name is Bat-Bun and they go paroling together sometimes.
Duke teaches Bat-Bun all the cute trick like playing soccer and giving high fives.
Damian often goes over to Duke's to play with Bat-Bun, even if Duke isn't there. He often comes home from patrol to Damian and his mum sitting together and talking while feeding Bat-Bun sweet potato.
Duke threaten to steal Damain's mum in retaliation.
Damian threatens to steal his rabbit if he tries.
They both settle for playing soccer with Bat-Bun together.
Duke Thomas consumes my every waking thought. Every conversation leads back to him. Every song relates to him. Every time I see the sun or moon, I think of him. I find myself thinking, "what would Duke do?" for almost every situation. Just, Duke, man, he is everything.
go write three sentences on your current writing project.
Stole this idea from @lordbasilsnek because I had no idea what to post on here at first, so go check them out cuz their headcanons are pretty cool too.
He is banned from the Batkids yearly hide and seek game due to his powers. He and Cass (Who was banned simply because she was too good) decide to be commentators. Duke does most of the talking.
After his parents were jokerfied, Duke learned how to braid his own hair. Once he moved in with Bruce he got the chance to grow out his hair. It throws half the batkids off when the morning after their patrol instead of the afro he's had for the past 7 months he has cornrows with beads in colors he and Cass picked out the day before.
Almost monthly Duke and Jason argue which side of gotham has the best pizza. Jason's is some shitty crime alley pizza place that gave him a free slice every now and again. Duke's is near his parents apartment. It's black owned. Its the greasiest shit you will ever put near your mouth. His mom hated how unhealthy it was. He and his old friends would eat there every Saturday afternoon anyways. These arguments are one hair away from getting physical because both of them are too fucking stubborn to admit they can both be right.
Insired by @overcookedfool 's headcannon about Cass and Duke being banned from hide and seek, Bruce uses their hiding skills to train the other batfamily members.
The training involves Duke and Cass hiding around Gotham and the others having to find them before sun up (for Cass) or sun down (for Duke). So that everyone can still get their work done, this only happens once a week.
If someone finds them in time, they can get a trophy from the batcave, if Duke or Cass remain unfound, they get the same deal.
Dick gets them to use carnival rules so winning a lot of little trophies can get you a big one. After a few months of the training exercise Duke and Cass put their trophies together to offically own the dinosaur.
