“If we lived in a culture with a higher tolerance for ambiguity, rather than obsession with measurement, fixed identity, and knowability, transition wouldn’t be so confounding to people, and the process might be more normal. Epistemologically, we are anal retentive. Not rigorous, just stressed out. We need to know what a trans girl is. What are you, trans people get asked. Where are you from, people of colour get asked. White supremacist capitalism wants to make a map of everything, and then monetize the ways that things move around the map. Basically literally. The museum.”
— Baer, H., 2022. Trans Girl Suicide Museum. Los Angeles: Hesse Press. pp. 131-132.
i just think they are always on the kitchen floor you know what i mean. like they’ve lived in this shoebox flat two months now but can’t be fucked to buy any furniture all they’ve got is a scratchy red sofa and some bookshelves and as a table they’re using a flipped-over cardboard box that’s got peeling tape and ‘records books other shit’ written on the side in blue marker it’s waterlogged and has mug rings on both sides and that’s all they have so they’re just sitting on the kitchen floor sleep-rumpled in pjs eating their toast in the morning and sitting on the kitchen floor in silence after moons and missions covered w dirt and blood and bruises and some nights they’re sitting on the kitchen floor passing a bottle of cheap liquor between them and they’re laughing and listening to records and sharing a joint and the window is open w a breeze coming through and also sometimes they’re sitting on the kitchen floor eating cereal in the middle of the night w their knees touching sneaking little glances at each other and other times they are fucking on that kitchen floor and other other times they are just quietly saying i love you. on the kitchen floor.
This bloodbath has gone on for far too long. At the start of this aggression, the school year had barely just started. The academic year ends in just a month. Everyone, from first graders to university seniors, have lost an entire year at least. I say at least considering even if there is a ceasefire today, Israel had destroyed literally all universities in Gaza and damaged over 400 schools. Lest we forget also Israel's deliberate targeting of university professors and academics.
You absolutely cannot mistake the intent behind all of this.
the show (going out to get groceries. making myself a nice dinner. showering and opening the windows. being kind to myself in everything i do) Must go on
In the same way that we've moved from "everyone is beautiful" to "being beautiful should not factor into your self respect and exterior treatment" -- I hope we can soon move from "X years old is young!! It's still young!!" To "it's okay not to be young or youthful. It doesn't mean your life is over but it doesn't mean it's just started. You can still enjoy living and being yourself at any age even if you're not young." Like the sentiment is there but the execution is following the diversionary reassurance we always tend to go for first. Pls. Pls it's okay to be old. It's okay to be middle aged. It's okay to look old or middle aged or or or. It's okay. You don't have to be young to love yourself
i am a lover. but underneath that i'm a hater. and then underneath that i'm a lover again
there's something about the fact that Sirius thinks Remus is the spy but he still doesn't leave him. doesn't lock him up. doesn't hand him over to Dumbledore. that i feel like we don't talk about enough. like everyone gets so caught up in the "how could he even think that" that we overlook the "he thinks Remus is betraying them all and he still doesn't walk away." like okay babe, i see the knife. i'm not gonna move. go ahead. drive it in. where am I gonna go? where am I gonna go without you?
body hair appreciation post
who r ur fav poets!? ive been wanting to start read some poetry and i find myself scrolling thru ur poetry tag sometimes :3
ahh thank you for asking!!! here are a few of my faves, i hope you like them! please feel free to come back and let me know what u think <3
richard siken (obviously) — like i think if you're on tumblr you're probably already familiar with siken's work, but. his stuff just Hits and i've read and reread and highlighted and annotated both of his books so many times. recommended poem: litany in which certain things are crossed out
grendel menz — i think comics poetry is really cool and does not get enough recognition as a genre of poem (or as a genre of comic)!!! and grendel's stuff is always fucking incredible. hits 100% of the time. recommended poem: mirror resurrected
ocean vuong — i still haven't read his latest, but night sky with exit wounds is def among my fave poetry collections. recommended poem: home wrecker
sophie collins — i read this poem for the first time a couple years ago and it's lodged itself in my brain completely. it's such a stunning and heartbreaking exploration of a very specific location, and the last couple lines destroy me every time i read it. recommended poem: healers
emily berry — i'm torn on which poem i want to recommend you of hers so i'm giving you two, because i think her work works best when it's read together and you can get an idea of her voice. so. recommended poem(s): tragedy for one voice (one of my favorite poems of all time) & bad new government
ada limón — if you've scrolled through my poetry tag you've definitely seen a ton of her stuff! i need to buy more of her books (i only own bright dead things). recommended poem: the conditional
i need to read more poetry too, honestly, so if anyone has any recs for me i would love to hear them! :^)
