Amazing analysis.
I think the voice of the cold intrests me as a character so much because he's such a real and visceral response to their circumstances. Which is true for all the voices and each is intriguing to dig into in a different way, but this post is about cold the others will get their turn (probably)
Imagine with me, for a second, you've only just learned what it means to exist and you've already been discarded.
You've done everything you were told without question. This is your purposes and you were promised Good at the end of it and you do it and you do it well. Your guide, and authority figure you should be able to trust who is seemingly so much more experienced in this world than you even seems happy with you. You must be doing it right
Then you're abandoned. The only Good for you is an eternity of nothing. The only way you can be Good is to hurt others and to not exist at all.
Wouldn't that leave you empty? Hurt, clawing for something, anything to fill that void. You had Purpose and it turned out to mean nothing, you had a vague promise of Good and it turned out to be nothing.
You can't be Good, can't fulfil that Purpose when all of it means nothing, when you've been lied to and led to be locked in a box for the rest of time. And rather than feel that hurt, you claw it out of yourself with your own two hands, and the same implement you'd used to fulfil your Purpose.
All he wants is that Good he was promised, and to him that's the opposite of that box. It's the opposite of Nothing. It doesn't matter if it hurts him, if it hurts somebody else, if it feels good or feels bad, he just craves something that will make him feel. That will make everything worth it in the end, that will free him from the monotony and inherent stagnation of the situation he's in. What use does he have for morality in pursuit of this? What use is morality in this situation anyway? Where everything is being presented with such grand consequences, where everything is both right and wrong, where these consequences never seem to quite stick for him regardless? So he simply encourages action, in whatever form that may take.
Because it's so much more intresting if it's an active choice. Something is always better than that empty cabin surrounded by nothingness all around he's subconsciously running from. Because cold is most aware of their godly nature, and so is most aware of whats always missing no matter what they do. Who tries to fill that emptiness, first with Purpose then with Action.
For a voice that claims to feel nothing at all a lot of his drive is purely emotional. He wants to be intrested, he wants to be engaged, he wants to feel something even if it hurts. He wants to feel connection to this body the same way the other voices do, and yet criticises them for feeling in that way.
At the core of it all, he wants back what he's lost. And by his very nature he cannot have it.
I'm going to do some Transformers redesigns, and I wanted to know which autobots and decepticons are popular across different continuities.
I'm already locked in on Optimus, Bumblebee, Megatron and Starscream.
I'm open to alt mode suggestions for Megatron (currently thinking an alien gunship) and any suggested characters who have inconsistent alt modes.
Please respond with a comment, I look forwards to knowing what you guys have to say!
What if there's no getting better, and it just keeps on repeating with diminishing glorification until things get so bad Death shows up because all the other consequences are fed up with the main character?
"depiction is not automatically glorification" can and should coexist with "some depiction is glorification and you need to be able to tell the difference"
Dude this page is a lifesaver Google is really bad for working out the order to read them in
1. You are responsible for your own media experience.
2. There is such a thing as a healthy level of avoidance towards topics that make you feel unwell or even (in a real-life clinical definition of the term) trigger you - but you are the one to actively take care of what you view.
3. Avoiding does not mean policing others.
4. You have no right to tell artists to censor themselves - you may criticize what others do, you may dislike it, that’s fine - but actively asking for censorship when you could easily unfollow or block a person just makes you look incompetent in your use of the internet.
5. Do not give people on tumblr or /any/ website the responsibility for your emotional well-being. Because these people do not even know you so no, you have no right to ask them to take care of you.
Do you have any advice on drawing hair? How do you make it so weightless and floofy?
Shapes!!
If Doctor Who was what I was looking for all the time, I'd have probably gotten bored tbh.
I don't like everything on the menu, but a world of the most wonderful pies will get boring no matter how good the pies are. Even a restaurant gives you a palette cleanser so you can fully enjoy the courses of the meal, and aren't debating whether the starter is better or worse than the main because those two were had so close to one another despite serving fundamentally different functions.
Perhaps the reason some people don't like everything Doctor Who has to offer is because it's not even what they're looking for. That's fair.
It's beautiful.
Work in progress
Ironically, the Sea of Thieves tall tale is the worst offender, though made by fans.
It's great as a way to lure SoT players into Monkey Island, but they botched it in a few ways; mischaracterisation of Cate Capsize, relying on one of the limited time Adventures for build-up, taking place immediately after Curse but not referencing Demon LeChuck in favour of the most toned down version of his zombie form yet, incredibly tedious movement and not playing around enough with the inherently weird in-universe explanation; it doesn't take place on the real Meleé or Monkey islands and instead in the delusional realm of Guybrush's memories, distorted by his nemesis.
Rare had the chance to give us a world of Guybrush's own desires turned against him by LeChuck and it's just Meleé island but he's a popular has-been, and not a hated has been? Maybe it's so lukewarm because of the demographic of SoT, but come on. We could have had the nightmare pirate LeChuck positioning Guybrush in a much wackier torment nexus.
Sorry for the rant, and don't get me started on the questionable ending of Guybrush apologising to the fake townsfolk.
It's really funny that MI2 predicted Guybrush as obnoxiously stuck in the past, clinging to iconic moments and places that made him famous until everyone got bored with him completely, only for the franchise to become exactly that after Tales. We got the beautifully and artfully made Sea of Thieves DLC, which really does capture the FEEL of the original SoMI but in 3D, but there's nothing original about it, it's literally made TO be a retread, even narratively. Then Return came, and while we have a lot more original content, characters, and places, the entire story still REVOLVES around LeChuck and the Secret. Playing it with my brother was frustrating because while we both grew up with MI3 and MI4 (and the first half of Tales), he only got to briefly play the other games Return puts a LOT of faith in the idea that you will recognize places and events that shouldn't necessarily define Guybrush as a character. This fandom has been full of mi1+mi2 elitists for forever but now it feels like they've snuck into the dev team, too.
Thanks to everyone who voted!
I'm surprised at the popularity of the time controller/strategist and tbh, I voted for the New Paradigm version to see what was voted for in advance. I guessed it wasn't going to win any points regardless.
It will be the black supreme who gets the glory of leadership, by popular vote. Again, kind of expected; black has always looked good on these guys.
I'll reblog again when my Dalek forces are complete.
Quick question for the Dr Who fandom here, but I need to give context.
I'm making 3 polymer clay daleks (2005 design). 1 is almost done, another will also be a drone. But I'd like a Supreme to boss them around and I'm stuck on colours.
So I'm asking Tumblr to know: which Dalek Supreme / other leader rank has the best colours?
Classic black:
Revival red:
Purple time controller:
New Paradigm white:
Please note that this is likely just the colours I will use. The time controller would likely get rings, the red version would probably get the butresses and both all versions would be rocking the modern eyes and standard lights but besides that, I'll just be adding colours to the 2005 drone.
WIP, wanted it out before November
