The Blues Brothers is a movie centered around two white men but is a direct and loud love letter to black people and black culture. It’s the definition of appreciation not appropriation. Like the scenes where black people are on screen for a majority of the time and they’re the focus and then Jake and Elwood join in and they’re dancing and singing with the folks but never trying to outshine them or anything. And it’s not even from the musicals scenes solely, look at the pictures Elwood has taped on his wall of different black blues legends and artists, this movie is a love letter and I love it.
No other movie could pull this off today.
