OUAT Fic Premise

So I’ve never really liked how OUAT integrated most of the Peter Pan mythos. Killian Jones is my favorite character but he doesn’t really match the Hook from the novel. Stuff like their version of the Pan, Frankenstein and Oz characters bother me because unlike the other fairy tale characters, they come from a single definite source. The Frankenstein stuff is hopeless and there’s already one fanfic author who made Whale actually work for me as Victor and whose characterization I use for my headcannons. So here’s my thought for Killian (which completely ignores all of the stuff about Wendy and her brothers that they added, it doesn’t add much to the plot anyway).

Killian is not the Hook from the Peter Pan book and neither is the Pan that the gang fights in Neverland. The book all happened mostly as written but at some point Wendy returns to Neverland after that adventure and something g happens. Maybe during one of spring cleaning trips? I don’t know, whatever the case Wendy ends up in the world of the Enchanted Forest along with the crew of James Hook. James himself is, of course, dead, in the stomach of the crocodile. Wendy, as Red-Handed Jill, takes over as captain and she leads the crew for a while in their new world. Everyone in the crew is unfamiliar with this world as they all come from the same world as Wendy. Neverland was supposed to be connected to an alternate version of Earth, a slightly more magical one than the Land Without Magic where folk lore and the like are real and stories like Peter Pan and Alice and Wonderland and Mary Poppins can take place. Maybe King Arthur’s Avalon was real in this world and stuff like the Trojan War and the Odyssey actually happened (I’m also ignoring season 5 here). The details of Wendy’s home world are not important, I just think those additions are neat.

Anyway, Wendy sails as captain for some time before disbanding the crew. During this time, she falls in love with one of her crew members, an Irishman named David Jones, Davvy for short. The two end up having two boys together, Killian and Liam. At some point Davvy, who took up as captain with some of the crew members who wanted to keep sailing, ends up cursed with the Flying Dutchman because the name is just too convenient for that to have never come up. Wendy goes ashore and raises her boys, helped by Mr. Smee who managed to have his own son at some point. Killian and Liam are raised on stories of England, and on Peter Pan and Neverland. Which is why when Killian ends up losing his hand to his own crocodiles he takes up the moniker of his childhood stories.

Meanwhile, whatever happened that led to Wendy and the pirates being sent to the Enchanted Forest also led to Neverland being opened up to it and being infected by its foreign magic, weakening Peter. Some timey-wimey stuff happens and children from this new world star dreaming of Neverland. One of these kids is a boy named Malcom who would one day manage to find his way there in person. Malcom takes out Peter and takes over as Pan. He’s who the gang fight in Neverland and Rumpelstiltskin sacrifices himself to kill, permanently because he doesn’t need to come back and cause problems.

OUAT mostly stays the same through to the end of season 3A, after that so what you will. I just like picturing Killian surprising Emma with knowledge of the Land Without Magic that doesn’t make sense based off of what he learned from his mom.

Anyway, that’s mostly my idea for a premise for a canon-divergent fic that I think would be neat.

One Piece Headcannon

We know Shanks was a baby celestial dragon left behind when Garp and Roger fought the Rocks pirates (making him being from the West Blue a lie) but all we know about Buggy is that he is from the Grand Line and was probably brought on at about the same age as Shanks. Pretty sure the implication is that they were both babies but that leaves several months difference not accounting for them being slightly different ages in general. So here’s my thought, I think there has to have been a reason Roger thought his ship was the only place a couple babies could go instead of somewhere safer. We know Shanks background so that one’s obvious, but what about Buggy. I think Buggy is from an island in the Grand Line where everyone has red noses like him but something happened and he ended up alone.

One idea I have is that his island was made up of entertainers that the celestial dragons liked to take as personal slaves but something caused them to revolt which lead to a Buster Call. Baby Buggy was hidden away and managed to survive until Roger found him. I just think there’s an interesting dynamic to have Shanks biological family be the reason Buggy lost his.

One Piece Thought

Don’t know if there’s anything out there that contradicts this but as far as the main manga goes, Luffy met Shanks when he was about 6 or 7 and living in Foosha village. He went to stay with Dadan afterwards and lived mostly in her care until he was 17, but what about before? I think it’s pretty common fanon that Luffy was mostly cared for by Makino and was otherwise some kind of wild village child. We also know that he had to have been with Dragon for at least a bit before being handed over to Garp, but we don’t know what age that happened at, only that Luffy was young enough that he didn’t remember his dad at all. So here’s my thought, what if Luffy was, like 3 when he ended up on Dawn Island? That young enough to not have any permanent memories. I don’t know, I just like the idea of Dragon actually getting to raise his son for a while. Maybe Dragon decided to take Luffy to Garp after Luffy’s mom was killed in a raid or something. There’s just room to play around with things.

Epic Thoughts

So I’m not really sure how Jorge read a story about a ruthlessly pragmatic but arrogant man having to suffer the consequences of his own hubris and came out with the idea of that same guy needing to learn to be ruthless after ten years of war but wonky narrative decisions aside, all the songs really are amazing, it blows my mind.

I’m always amazed with how much talent is on display when you listen to music.

Green Arrow

If I had a nickel for every time the CW made Oliver Queen’s love interest their tech support OC instead of his canonical girlfriend from the comics I would have two nickels, which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it happened twice.

Disney Hercules

Was watching some old episodes for the nostalgia (forgot how charming this show was) and I realized that this show is actually super in line with Greek mythology in one way, it could not care less about timelines and ages making any sense.

Iphigenia

A lot of modern takes seem to like making Agamemnon an all out bad guy, and I’m not saying he’s secretly a sweetheart or anything g or even that he didn’t deserve to die, but I am of the opinion that he’s more complicated that just being an arrogant douche. For one thing, I wholeheartedly believe that he loved his daughter. The sacrifice of Iphigenia acting as his punishment would not make sense if he didn’t love her. It was beyond cruel that he chose to kill her and I defiantly think Clytemnestra was justified in killing him (not for some of the other thing she did, but definetly for that specific act), but however pathetic and insufficient it turned out to be, he did love her.

The Odyssey

I’ve been seeing this trend in modern takes of the Odyssey that want to focus on Penelope where they have it as her not really knowing her husband. Like, they have Penelope and Odysseus getting married and him having to go off to Troy after only, like, a year in or something. I love the idea of focusing on Penelope but I hate this particular take. In some tellings, Odysseus and Penelope were married for 8 years before he left and Homer made a point of describing them as being like-minded. I’ve always thought Penelope was supposed to really understand her husband and his mind because she works the same way. I just would like there to be some basis for the reunion we get between them in the original poem, that’s not a couple who doesn’t know each other.

PJO Headcannon

So the one thing about the Percy Jackson books is that there are way too many demigods and that the likes of Percy and Nico are both way overpowered compared to what you had in the old stories. So I had a thought towards each thing.

The reason there are so many more demigods is because as worship of the greek gods faded amongst mortals, the gods started to have more children to kind of balance it out and make sure they still had plenty of genuine worshipers beyond them just syphoning of power from the symbolism and stuff that came with following the heart of the west.

The reason Percy and Nico are so strong is because of how much Poseidon and Hades loves their respective mothers. The strength of the demigod is linked to the degree of affection their demigod parent had for their mortal parent. The more the god loved the mortal, the more powerful their child is. I think it was made pretty clear that Poseidon and Hades cared for Sally and Maria a lot more than other lovers. So yeah.

Teenage Vampire Nightmare

My brother just turned eighteen and thinking about him being stuck at the age he’s at now sounds like the worst nightmare ever. Any romanticism teenage me felt about vampire like Edward and Stefan is gone forever, now I just pity them.

Superman Problem

So the one thing about the old Superman movies I’ve never liked has been the Jesus analogy. The idea that Joe-El sent his son to earth so he could guide the humans and be their savior. I think Smallville did this too and I didn’t like it then either. Why would a man from a completely different planet who has never been to Earth and has no reason to care anything about it except as the planet where his son is going so he doesn’t die on Krypton care at all about saving humanity? He was facing certain death as his planet died around him and risked a lot n the chance that his son would survive being sent away in a ship, why would he spend any time creating a plan where he ordered his son to be alone and isolated apart from the species he was being sent to spend his life around. It just doesn’t make sense.

Superman Fic Idea

So, I’ve seen plenty of fic where Batman is depicted as the most paranoid member of the Justice League where no one knows his identity n the whole team and maybe don’t even know he has kids. (I hate fics where the justice league meet the Batfamily for several reasons) And, for the most part, I do think Batman would be more paranoid then other members when it comes to contingency plans, but I don’t actually think he’d be the most paranoid about his actual identity. Pretty much everyone Batman knows and cares for is some kind of super or super-affiliated. He’d be careful, but I don’t think he’s the most motivated to make sure his identity stays secret.

You know who has a lot more incentive to want his secret identity locked down right? Superman. This almost invincible hero who can really only be hurt by going after his loved ones, of which he has plenty. Superman has his parents, his friends, the Daily Planet and Smallville, all of whom would be in danger if it got out that who he was. Not to mention, Superman doesn’t where a mask, his biggest protection on his identity is that no one thinks he has one. You don’t suspect the random reporter guy to be Superman unless you have reason to believe Superman has an actual job.

I think Superman would actually be one of the most careful heroes in regard to his identity. And it would be pretty easy for him to do, especially since he has an actual name to give them to use.

Moving to the actual fic idea. A story about the Justice League founding and growing together through the framing of how much Superman shares about himself. I like the idea of the Justice League being taken in by the Kal-El came to earth as a teenager-adult and using his birth name. I think Superman might drop hints about himself mixed with info he learned from ai Joe-El. I just think it would be a fun story, maybe play with expectations in a bit with Batman and Superman.

My One Change to Star Trek (2009)

There are a good few flaws to this movie but if I were to make one change and leave it mostly alone, it would be the time skip after Kirk gets on the shuttle to Starfleet Academy, right after he meets Bones. Instead of jumping ahead to his final year as a cadet I would have it be more like 7 years, and introduce him as a new transfer to the Enterprise as a Lieutenant or Lieutenant Commander.

You can still have him get off on the wrong foot with Spock because of the Kobayashi Maru, but it can be because Spock doesn’t approve of him getting a commendation for what he considered to have been “cheating” and then they just rub each other the wrong way to start. The rest of the gang are all already posted as lower ranked members. I think you could have a fun scene of Kirk reuniting with Bones and Uhura (with very different reactions going on there).

You can still have Kirk overhearing Uhura about the communication because he’s with her roommate, it’s just that the room is a ship cabin instead of a dorm. Basically, instead of the Academy stuff you just have Kirk getting adjusted to the Enterprise. Maybe have Commander Una be injured or on leave or something so Spock is the Acting First Officer at the time.

Then the distress call from Vulcan comes in and the ship get assigned to check it out. Everything else from the time they’re out of warp could pretty much be the same but it would make more sense for Pike to name Kirk as Spock’s Acting First Officer when he goes over and for the gang to be taking over for their commanding officers when they’re injured during the attack from Nero. It just would make so much more sense for already instated officers to take on the roles they do then not even graduated cadets.

(I know this thing is, like, 15 years old now but I was rewatching Beyond and it made me think)

ATLA Thoughts

I was rewatching the first season of the show and I had some thoughts about how they wrote Zuko. I think it’s really interesting how in the first two episodes they had Zuko as just the full antagonist. Only to turn around in the third and make you root for him by pitting him against the immediately dislikable Zhao. You also had his ship be revealed to be so much smaller than the others after making it seem larger than life next to the Katara and Sokka’s village. I just find it really fascinating how we were being primed to support him from the very beginning.

Star Wars Fic Idea

I think it would be interesting if a post-ROTJ version of Luke and Leia met a version of themselves from a world where Anakin never Fell and they were raised by their birth parents. How that world turned out that way could be do any number of reasons. (Though I do hate the version where all it took to save the day was getting rid of Palpatine, there was a lot more going wrong with the Galaxy besides him) I just think it would be interesting to explore their similarities and differences. I imagine Leia would be as much of a daddy’s girl for Anakin as she was for Bail, which I imagine would be incredibly confusing for OG Leia. Not to mention the different relationship between the twins who actually grew up together compared to the ones who had no idea they were related until they were adults. Twins tend to be close in a way others aren’t, and Luke and Leia spent a lot of time as just friends. Not to mention I bet force sensitive twins would be even closer than usual.

I don’t know, just a thought.

Comic book Geography

One of the things I like more about DC over Marvel is that every hero has their own city and they’re all spread out. It gives them plenty of space to do their own thing and they have the technology and superpowers to be in easy reach of one another if they need back up. I thought it was a really neat idea to have the Justice League in Young Justice be connected with the UN, though I also think they work as an NGO.

I’ve always found it frustrating having Marvel crammed into New York City. I understand the original appeal to have the heroes in a place where the writers were familiar, to make them more down to earth. But they’ve outgrown that, Marvel has spread them out a little but they could do more. It looks like the X-Men are going to be all over the place in their new titles, which I’m really happy about, can’t wait to read about the team that’ll be in Chicago. Aside from a handful of heroes, like Spider-Man and Daredevil, who really embody New York City, most of the Marvel heroes don’t really need to be there, Move the Fantastic Four to Pittsburg or something, have the Avengers in California or Washington, the real team not the West Coast Avengers, just somewhere that isn’t New York. It might seem a shame to separate Spidey from his friends in the FF, but Reed easily has the ability to make instant teleporters and Johnny can fly. Whatever, it’s not a big deal, just give them some space.

Superman Movies Problem

I enjoy the classic Superman movies well enough, they’re campy fun, but I really hate how they portray Jor-El and Clark’s relationship with humanity. Why does being Superman have to be some kind of grand mission he’s destined to go on? And the whole thing about him having to stay apart from them is just really weird. I guess it’s part of the Jesus analogy they were going with? But I hate that too.

Superman isn’t a chosen one, his birth parents didn’t send him to Earth with some mission to serve and/or lead humanity. They didn’t care about humanity, Earth was convenient because kryptonians look like humans and it has a yellow sun, so they knew their baby would be safe and could blend in. The only thing Jor-El and Lara cared about was getting their son off of Krypton so he would be able to live, what he did after that was entirely up to him, they just wanted him alive.

This idea’s shown up other places, I remember it clearly from Smallville where the Jor-El AI was almost an antagonist, I didn’t like that either. The AI should just be a database sent with Clark so that he would have information about his species, it didn’t have any purpose beyond giving him a piece of home.

So, yeah. That’s always bugged me, especially when it was used as an obstacle for Clark and Lois being together. Why would his parents ever want him to live alone his whole life? Doesn’t it make more sense for them to want him to find a romantic partner (if he’s interested in that)?

That’s one of the reasons I’ve never understood Superman II. Why does Clark have to give up his powers to be with Lois and why does him being Superman mean they can’t be together? It’s such a weird plot line. Those movies really wanted to make him some kind of god figure didn’t they?

I really do prefer the version of him where he’s just a guy who wants to help but not let I take over his life, so him mom made him a suit.

Crossover Fic Complaint

I find it really annoying in fanfic, usually crossover or oc’s, where the writer has whatever character see right through a secret identity, it happens all the time with Superman and it’s mostly just a way to make their preferred character look smarter than everybody around them. There is nothing wrong with Superman’s secret identity.

DC Fic Trope Question

Why is it so popular to write fics where the Justice League has never met the Batfamily? I seem to see it a lot and I just don’t get it. It just seems so sad to have a Dick who didn’t get to grow up with Clark and Diana around or the Teen Titans. His relationships with other superheroes mean so much to him. And then there’s Tim who is practically soul mates with Connor, Bart and Cassie, I hate the idea of him not getting to have them in his life. It all just seems so isolating for them to have no connection with the wider superhero world.

I know this trend is just going to become more popular once the new DC movies come out. The only thing I’m not a fan about the James Gunn announcements is that Superman is going to be starting off younger but Batman is jumping straight into the Damian Wayne storyline and the age implications that come with that. They’ve already confirmed that Nightwing is already going to be a thing too. Is Clark now going to be of an age with Dick? That just doesn’t seem right to me.

Sandman Fic

I’m getting pretty annoyed with the trope in fic that Morpheus is out of touch with the modern day. I get that he talks pretty formally and is an ancient being, but he’s also the personification of every living thing’s collective unconsciousness. He’s going to know all the same everyday stuff of any modern person that’s in their unconscious mind. The fact that he was trapped for a century, or 80 years depending, wouldn’t change that. Especially if you consider the comic canon that he’s Dream for the universe, not just Earth. Just because he missed humanity’s jump in tech doesn’t mean any of it is new to him. There are probably plenty of alien planets with similar and more advanced technology he would have known before he was imprisoned in the first place. I just don’t like that idea and I see it way too often.

BNHA - A Thought

I’ve noticed something of a trend in BNHA fics that kind of group all of the adult characters into being in the same peer group. This isn’t the case, there’s some pretty drastic age gaps between them all. Most of the teachers, (Eraserhead, Midnight l, Present Mic and the like) are all in their early 30s, they really aren’t that far off from being young adults themselves. I don’t know about all of the various heroes but Endeavor is 45 and All Might is 10 years older than him. All Might did not attend UA with his rival or any of his colleagues, he’s too old. I’m pretty sure he’s actually been being All Might for longer than most of his teacher colleagues have been alive. It just seems weirdly common for people to make him younger so they can have some high school romance back story in shipping fics, or just because they don’t seem to realize it. The whole point of All Might is that he’s been around a really long time, you lose some impact if that isn’t the case.

Isekai Idea

I think it’d be interesting to have a protagonist who is an expert in medieval history get transported into the standard savior is summoned to defeat the demon king scenario. Like, even basic knowledge of that time period would make anyone super distrustful of the church and monarchy, since they are almost always just the absolute worst. So you have someone with that background and instinctive mistrust faced with exactly those kind of people claiming that they’re there to save the world. The gimmick is that the king and head priest are actually completely sincere but the protagonist just refuses to believe people in those positions could possibly be good. I’m imagining some kind of gag story with that premises, I just think it’d be funny.

Alternatively, you take the medieval history expert and have them be reincarnated in a world where everyone has complete and total implicit trust in the church and or monarchy because of divine right or something, real or imagined, and the protagonist just has to deal with their modern sensibilities of democracy in the face of classism. Or something. It’s not a fully fleshed out idea.

DCU

It’s probably my Superman bias, but I get really bothered by the trope that has all of the Supers being scared of the Bats. Like, sure, Batman and his kids are cool, but come on, it’s SUPERMAN, he’s the strongest superhero in the world and the rest of them are almost as strong. Superboy I, Superboy II, Supergirl, Power Girl, all of them, it’s just not happening. They respect the Bat Clan, they are incredibly intelligent and well trained heroes, but they aren’t going to seriously be able to beat the Supers, nor would they actually want to. They’re friends, they trust each other. I get that it’s short hand to show a character is bad ass by having their allies be scared of them, but I’ve never really understood why genuine friends who cared about each other would act that way. So yeah, that’s just me.

DCU In-Universe Fic

I’ve seen a few social media fics where in-universe characters argue about whether Batman or Superman is better, usually as an extension of the Gotham vs Metropolis debate. I was thinking about them and it occurred to me that no one within the DC universe would actually view Batman as being on par with Superman. Like, if Superman was real, this overpowered alien hero who saves people from actual natural disasters, he wouldn’t be considered “Metropolis’ Hero.” He’d be the World’s Hero, even the Gothamites would probably put him on a totally different league from heroes who operate primarily in their city. Yeah, sure, he debuted in Metropolis but he fights hurricanes and falling airplanes and alien warlords, EVERYONE would be invested in him.

My Manwha Problem

So I love reading visual stories, comic books, manga, manwha, web comics, they’re just a great medium. I’ve been reading a lot of fantasy romances lately and there’s this persistent problem that keep coming up for me. It seems these days a lot of the male leads have either blond or silver hair, maybe something else but those two more prominently. Now this isn’t a big deal, but then they also will have a secondary male love interest or a former husband/fiancé/lover who has black hair. As it so happens, without fail, I always prefer the appearance of the black haired lead. Don’t know what to say, guess it’s just my type. Fortunately there are also plenty of romances with black haired male leads but it still pricks at me when I’m reading a fun story and can’t help preferring the guy I already know the female lead won’t end up with. It’s silly and shallow but it does still take away from my enjoyment of what is otherwise a good story, and I find this frustrating. I wish I could change my preferences sometimes, but it is what it is. I mostly just try and keep it balanced, I’ll go from blond or silver over to a black haired lead and get my fix from that story. Oh well.

The Marvel Problem

So I know that the big thing with Marvel that differentiates it from DC was having it exist in the “real world” and not a bunch of made up cities and since the guys writing the characters were all from New York City, that’s where they put them because they knew it best. But I feel like things have grown to the point of ridiculousness, NYC is a big city but it’s not that big. I was watching a YouTube video about how it doesn’t make sense for Miles Morales to not have Peter Parker around to help him out and his points carry over to the overall hero community. Besides that, aside from Spider-Man, it really wouldn’t be a big deal to move most of the heroes out of New York, give them their own space. I know Daredevil was in California for a while, let him move back there, or maybe keep him in New York, he’s pretty small scale so it wouldn’t be a big deal to have both him and Spidey around. But I feel like the Avengers should definitely move to the west coast, and I mean the proper Avengers, not a separate team. I think Luke Cage, Jessica Jones and Danny Rand could probably set up shop in, like, Chicago or something, that seems a good fit for them, maybe Felicia Hardy too. The Fantastic Four could move to, like, Albany or something, keep them in New York but give some distance. I don’t know where everyone should go but I really feel Marvel would benefit from putting distance between their heroes, give them space to act. Just a thought.

Naruto Headcannon/Prompt

So it’s never actually discussed how Naruto was raised until he was in the Academy, we only see him as a baby on the night he was born and then jump to him living on his own. I know it’s been kind of accepted that he was placed in an orphanage but I don’t really think Hiruzen would have places quite that much faith in untrained caregivers to oversee the jinchuuriki. This is a roundabout way of saying I think baby Naruto was taken care of by ANBU and a wet nurse before being placed in an apartment. And since Kakashi was ANBU he would have looked out at least a bit and did stuff like feed him and change his diapers. Long story short, I am now picturing Kakashi helping out with one of the Team 7 kids and having his students be like, how do you know how to change baby diapers only for him to just casually say something like, “oh, Naruto gave me plenty of practice” and just completely ignoring them having their minds blown and Naruto just kind of frozen in horror at the thought of his sensei having cleaned up after him. I feel like someone with actually talent could make a really funny one shot with that.

The Problem with KakaObi

Okay look, Kakashi is my favorite character and my fandom bicycle, I ship him with everybody, including Obito sometimes. My problem is that so many kakaobi writers have him, like, secretly in love with him from back when they were teammates and have him pining after his memory for the next 20 years or whatever. And I get it, watching the man you love die for you and then come back from the dead is just full of melodrama. But at oldest Kakashi was, like, 13 when Obito died, I usually view him as 10 or 11. I don’t care what kind of a genius he is, pre-teens are not having an intense melodramatic love going on, they just aren’t. And having an adult Kakashi pine after a child Obito is just gross, it’s gross in canon with Obito and Rin too. I don’t mind kakaobi, not my favorite pairing, but it’s better than kakairu (god I hate that pairing) I just wish people would write them falling in love as proper adults. This is probably why the only way I can read them is in AUs where Obito came back to Konoha. They just don’t work with the canon setting without some real work too many don’t put in. Whatever, people can write whatever they want, I just need to be more careful with my tag search.

Alright, that’s it, just wanted to get the thought out there while it was on my mind.

Kakashi’s Sharingan

So for some reason most of the fandom seems to think Kakashi was stronger with the Sharingan, and yeah, without it there’s no more Kamui or Chidori, but I still feel like not having a constant chakra drain would be vastly superior to those two techniques. Like, it always seemed to me that the Sharingan kind of crippled him, with it he had to constantly be careful of his stamina and chakra reserves, which are the two most important parts of being a shinobi. I feel it was made pretty clear that the main reason Naruto was able to do most of his most impressive feats was because he could throw around chakra like nothing else and just, never got tired really. I always imagined Kakashi having to hold back in fights because he never knew when he’d run out of chakra. That would have limited his ability to practice too, because he had to be careful to not overdo it all the time, which would be a lot shorter of a period for him than other people. Even in taijutsu, pretty much everyone uses chakra to enhance their speed and strength, not to the degree of Sakura and Tsunade, but they all still did it. Kakashi always seemed to be fainting from chakra exhaustion, just, imagine if Kakashi had, instead of adjusting to the Sharingan for the past 16 years, spent that time improving himself overall. The kid was a genius and had started to figure out how to add nature change to the rasengan when he was 10, what would he have been able to do if he could rely on his chakra reserves. I just picture Kakashi being seriously stronger after the fourth war without a Sharingan crippling him anymore.
