Dear Penni,

What are your thoughts on both of your parents? Are there any specific opinions you developed about them, or anything you feel stands out?

Hmm, I don't really know what to say about my thoughts about my fathers. It's an interesting question, but not one I'm quite sure about. It is quite vague... I suppose your follow-up questions add more clarification, though, so I'll just focus on them two!

My dad is the one I spend more time with because his work isn't confidential. That means that I can stay with him even while he's working on his smart science stuff. I do think, though, sometimes, that he's disappointed I don't find his work interesting. I wonder, only sometimes, if part of the reason he's so open to me spending time with him while he works is so that I end up interested in science too. I'm sure it's not, and he's never made me feel bad about not being fond of science, so it's probably just my imagination. After all, he always listens to me talk about what I do find interesting.

On the other hand, I think I'm more similar to pa. He's the one that got me interested in everything political after all, even if he can't tell me everything about it at the moment. He says I'm too young, and I've overhead him arguing with dad in the past about how loosely he parents. So, pa is definitely the stricter parent, but he's also more likely to explain himself when he tells me off, and he's the calmer one, with everything pretty much. I think pa is objectively the better parent then in that sense. He does seem to know more about parenting.

It's interesting to compare them both because they definitely both have things that I prefer for each of them. I do feel lonely a lot, even with both of them and everything they do. I don't know if that makes me ungrateful, because I can anything I want in the world.

Well, I suppose that's as good a place as any to end it. I don't want to start sounding spoiled, even if I am a princess.

3. Currently reading: I'm slowly reading the Iliad, but I've had absolutely no motivation recently. However, the fanfic I'm reading right now is A Heartshaped Box of Springs and Wires.

4. Currently watching: Nothing. The last thing I watched was Gravity Falls, though. I just keep putting on random episodes. I've watched ATOTS too many times now.

5. Craving: Eh, I had some nice prawn crackers before and I'd love to have some more.

6. Coffee or tea: Despite the fact that my friend calls me a coffee addict, I'd choose tea.

Literally, I always feel awkward reblogging but I feel the need to do this. It's the first time I've been tagged in anything.

1. If you could be any animal, what would it be?

No hesitation, I'm an eastern screech owl. Specifically the red ones. Those are my ultimate favourite animals. My second choice would be an axolotl though.

2. What would you choose in a hurry if you had nothing to wear

I'm assuming this means to go somewhere nice, in which case I'd probably put on any random dress I have. If it just means in general, I'd wear leggings, a t-shiry, and a hoodie or jumper. What I wear everyday to be honest.

3. Are you a witch, vampire, fairy, dryad, siren or mermaid and why do you think so?

Vampire. No hesitation. I'm ridiculously pale, I hate sunlight, and my first reaction to a cut is for me to lick my own blood. People around me already call me a vampire. The only thing going against that is my immense love for garlic though.

4. What is your style?

If I wasn't lazy and if I were rich. I would switch between a sort of alt look or full-on cottagecore. As it stands, though, I am neither of those things. So, instead, I dress extremely casually or way to dressed up.

5. Regular milk or plant based milk?

Hate to say it, but I've never had plant based milk. Only standard cows milk for me. Even if I had though, I don't think it would change my answer because I love milk. I buy milk every time I go to McDonalds. I take the tiny milk packets they give you everywhere and I drink them. I'm a little bit crazy.

6. Milk or cereal first?

Genuinely, I don't eat cereal. I haven't eaten it in years. However, I remember eating rice crispies when I was a kid, and the correct order for that is cereal, milk, sugar. No other way.

7. Favourite way to kill someone?

Ooh, final question, and this is a good one. My first thought was, defenestration, because that is my favourite word of all time. That, however, is much too obvious. I think I'm going to stick with the absolutely diabolical idea I came up with when I was a pre-teen, which is murder via potato peeler.

This is such an important thing to talk about. I'm British, but because of my obsession with history, I've never liked England, even hated it at points in my life.

I will say that that's an important distinction to make. The British Empire was mostly because of England. Wales was taken over by England for so long, and Scotland never got along with England.

The British Empire is not something to glorify at all.

I think a LOT of the political issues faced by the UK today come from a sense of wanting to get back to “the glory days”. We’ve kind of mythologised the time when Britain “ruled the world”, to the point that it’s a part of our very culture, to the point where it’s kind of treated on culture as our divine right.

I’m British Bengali, and I know the history of Bangladesh. I know how my people suffered under British rule. There wasn’t enough physical a price to pay, back then. Britain ruled a quarter of the world at the cost of very real human lives. They justified it by dehumanising the people they were oppressing.

yeah, the British Empire was cool, like as a concept. But the kind of hunger for international power is a rot at the core of our culture. We never should have ruled over so many, we shouldn’t have imposed ourselves and our values on other cultures. The idea that ANYONE has that right is a problem for any just society.

Most powerful politicians, at least subconsciously, believe that. I actually think most brits believe it, though by no fault of their own. But that belief is leading to more suffering for the people in the country. We have all these politicians more focused on sucking up to America than making any meaningful change.

it’s all a pathetic play for power. If the government were more focused on making lives better for brits than trying to be seen as the empire it once was, we would be in a MUCH Better position. The right are so obsessed with “British culture”, when they’re the ones KILLING the culture in the name of GDP.

I've just added the brick detailing to one Bill, and I can't tell if it looks good or not. I need other opinions on it because it takes me a while to do (I don't have a sewing machine 🥲). So, if you were to buy it, would you prefer the brick details or not?
