- Can you score at least one ball already?..
- There is something more interesting on this table than these balls.
It is Janurary 9th, 2025, and Lee Van Cleef would have turned 100 today.
Let's take some time to remember and appreciate this man for not just his iconic/gorgeous looks or however you would like to remember them, but his underrated talent, his incredible roles, good bad or neither, and him as a person as well.
He was a man who struggled a lot while he was alive. He faced many injuries and problems throughout his 64 years of life, which included drinking problems, a car accident, heart problems, throat cancer, and more.
However, despite many personal problems, Lee Van Cleef has also been able to do and has done positive things as well. Van Cleef was a war hero during World War II. He worked as a sonarman in the US Navy and was assigned to the USS Incredible minesweeper and performed sweeping duties and air-sea rescue patrols. Similar to Clint Eastwood, Van Cleef was also very versatile with his characters. He made them interesting, engaging, and complex, and you can't help but appreciate them.
Here are some of our favorites from Lee Van Cleef!
He truly was the best of the bad. Happy birthday, Mr. Van Cleef.
I care. I care very much, actually.
Drew him playing a guitar btw , if ya'll even care
Y'all Douglas Mortimer is so hot, but Angel Eyes is literally not bad either. Show him more loveee 😞
TOOOTALLY was not biased when I voted.
THIS. AND DON'T GET ME STARTED ON HOW PEOPLE TREAT ANGEL EYES.
many film scholars & critics talk about the dollars trilogy on a way that makes me think they haven't seen the movies. i see a lot of analysis about the man with no name as this loner figure and that's true to some extent yes–he does ultimately ride off alone (though not always by his own choice)–but in every movie he has a buddy: silvanito, mortimer, tuco. in a fistful of dollars especially he's quite friendly actually. and yet i see writing that talks about him like he's travis bickle
This man has NO bad angles 💜
I kinda depressed myself with that last post about Douglas Mortimer, so here's some nice random pictures of him to make up for it.
Guys, we need to talk about how underrated Lee Van Cleef is and all the small details I've spotted on Douglas Mortimer while watching For a Few Dollars More.
Here's before and after El Indio told him about how the final duel would work.
If you look closely, and I mean, VERY closely (around the eyes), you can see that he goes from determined to hopeless very quickly. He knew he was gonna die because there was no chance of grabbing his gun before or after the chime ended.
Imagine what was going through this head; that he had gotten so far and did so much, but he still ultimately failed his late sister.
And just the emotion is insane to me.
And these shots where he finally sees Manco with his watch is tearing me to SHREDS. I couldn't imagine the RELIEF this man felt, and I feel like Lee did that so well.
Finally, this. The way he stares like that. He's disturbed, and he keeps staring like that for a solid three seconds until he hears Manco stand right behind him.
UGHHH I'M GONNA DIE. I LOVE DOUGLAS MORTIMER('S CHARACTER) SO MUCH ☹️☹️☹️
(I just dropped to my knees and almost screamed over this. Please send help.)
I LOVE THIS SO MUCH UGHHH I LOVE MANTIMER.
