The thing is all characters are plot devices. All characters are created to tell a story and to progress that story. Within the telling of that story any created character has no agency. They are at the whims of the writer. So saying you dislike a character because they feel like a plot device is kind of redundant. I'm not saying you should like Law. It's perfectly fine to not like him, especially with that point you made about not relating to him. Being able to relate to a character is the biggest reason why most people would like said character.
