If You Know Someone With A Garden Be Their Best Friend. Tomatoes Are Always Given Away. These Friends

If you know someone with a garden be their best friend. Tomatoes are always given away. These friends sometimes sell but at prices you can afford for good veggies. Buy a crockpot. Roast chicken in crockpot. Eat delicious chicken, majority of it. Add water to whats left and veggies and let it go all day. Got chicken soup. Add noodles at end before eating or you get a gloopy mess. 10 bucks for something a couple can at minimum eat for three days. I freeze extras for lazy days when cooking sounds awful.

my parents aren’t teaching me life lessons.

Ever since I found out that earthworms have taste buds all over the delicate pink strings of their bodies, I pause dropping apple peels into the compost bin, imagine the dark, writhing ecstasy, the sweetness of apples permeating their pores. I offer beets and parsley, avocado, and melon, the feathery tops of carrots.

I’d always thought theirs a menial life, eyeless and hidden, almost vulgar—though now, it seems, they bear a pleasure so sublime, so decadent, I want to contribute however I can, forgetting, a moment, my place on the menu.

2013 Jewelweed (Impatiens Capensis) And Witch’s Hair (Cuscuta)
2013 Jewelweed (Impatiens Capensis) And Witch’s Hair (Cuscuta)

2013 Jewelweed (Impatiens capensis) and Witch’s Hair (Cuscuta)

Jewelweed: we found this growing wild on our property, down by the river. A lovely, carefree native annual. It had a bigger year in 2013 than in 2014, but hopefully it will do well in 2015. There is scant and not-particularly robust research to support the tradition of using these to soothe poison ivy and other skin ailments.

The second photo shows Witch’s Hair aka Cuscuta (the orange twining stuff), literally sucking the life out of some Jewelweed b/c it’s a true parasitic plant. It communicates with the host plant (there’s a great exchange of mRNA between the two), and ends up sucking water and nutrients, while giving nothing back in exchange. At least, not that we know of now. I’d make a wild guess that this is Cuscuta gronovii, but I really have no idea. Anyone know?

Song and Spell Correspondence Master Post

This post is purely based on my playlists and music I use or have used in my practice. I have posted sample playlists before, but this is broken down according to spell type and also includes a divination section. When I use music in spellwork, I may use lyrics from a song or play the song in the background to help channel energy for the intention of the spell.

I've started to actually get excited for school starting, I spend a lot of time online reading scientific papers about my favorite weeds, and I think I want to study weeds forever.

Apparently it's an ongoing mystery why dandelions in North America are so diverse, when all dandelions that have been found so far are apomicts that reproduce only by cloning themselves.

However, any given site will have many distinct dandelion genotypes, with many different traits.

For example, a site might have one dandelion strain that blooms primarily in fall, and another that blooms primarily in spring.

One theory is that there's new genetic information constantly coming in from Eurasia somehow. Apparently dandelion seeds can spread on the wind 150 KILOMETERS! Perhaps some are just blown across the ocean in a storm? But if that's the case, why weren't dandelions found all over North America already when European settlers came?

The other theories are that there are sexually reproducing dandelions here that we just haven't found yet, and that they somehow make new diversity very rapidly purely through mutations and recombination and such.
