He does have a heartbeat.

He didn't, not that first night after the End of the World.

Not until Jayce laid his head on his chest the next morning, listened, and frowned. "It's quiet."

Viktor's entire body jerked, the part of him that was still starlight — it had been slowly becoming solid over the past hours, relearning and rebuilding itself — pulsing.

After his head stopped spinning, Viktor would recall the feeling of his body remembering.

They both felt the sudden drum of his first heartbeat thud against his ribcage. It sputtered then, skipped, multiple beats in a row, silences that were too long, hit hard and then soft.

It is ten minutes later, when they have shifted so that Viktor's chest presses against Jayce's, his large heart leading Viktor's like a conductor, that it relearns its rhythm.

ok im annoying with this but i have such visions. jayce young prince of a theocracy but questioning his faith. confession through confession he starts obsessing over this one clever priest who makes him THINKKK about himself and subtly tells him rationality and science are valid,, to the point that he's seeking him out, over-observing rituals, maybe sacking other priests

the irony that the more sinful his thoughts, the more consummate their relationship, viktor has him believing again, he's convinced he's some kind of offering from a deity or a deity himself idk i'm not religious myself

so they can't win (oh imade it angsty again SURPRIIISEEE)

anyway yeah scandalous happenings
