midwesterner here hello let me raise you this supernatural still appeals to those burly dumb macho men with their rusted trucks and stupid jokes and old casserole dishes i.e. my father but what makes it so special is that it can reach literally anyone i can sit down after school and watch supernatural with my dad because there's just so much in it one minute i'm chatting with my dad about what certain cars we see at bobby's junkyard and how we'd like to fix them up and the next scene i'm jokingly telling people to “just kiss already” while my dad rolls his eyes and laughs this dumb stupid show is generational imo and it's just so midwestern i love it also yes my father who works in a union job and has been on this earth for over 50 years has stated that he likes the idea of dean and cas entirely unprompted as well he just said it at the dinner table a few days ago maybe the supernatural target audience was the weirdly homophobic yet supportive midwestern dads we found along the way he's never seen it before and is currently on season 6 (which he lowkey despises) but yes overall the target audience switch up is insanely beautiful and rather amusing to think about
