When I was a witch I thought “doing spells” was the height of all magic. After I left witchcraft I found myself doing spells less and less until I just… stopped. But this didn’t mean my life was without magic. The form my active magic took just changed.
I do magic with talismans now. Others may call them “altars in a box.” I call them talismans ^-^
Once a talisman is built, it works forever as long as it is properly charged. In the photograph is the charging of my personal prosperity talisman.
Talismans are a low-spoon magical solution. The creation, use, and upkeep of a talisman requires no personal energy beyond putting a few objects in a container. You do not need to charge talismans with your personal energy.
A talisman is, in my definition, a magical trinket which can manipulate energies in your favor. In this article I am talking about container talismans.
Container talismans are built like puzzles. Each object added holds a special meaning and will affect the energies of the talisman in a special way. In my example money talisman, I have added:
Lodestone, to draw money, prosperity, and wealth.
Lodestone oil, to draw money, prosperity, and wealth.
Coins, to represent what I desire.
Gold pebbles, to represent what I desire.
A jar of iolite crystals with a $1000 store price tag, to represent great wealth (dressed with lodestone oil).
A bottle of pure gold flakes, to represent great wealth.
A charm bag of basil, to get the spirit ally Basil to work on my behalf for profit.
A sigil to save money, for obvious reasons!
A small jar of marijuana, a gesture of sacrifice to give back to the spirit world, and to represent what I desire.
My last dollar until payday, a gesture of sacrifice to give back to the spirit world, and to represent what I desire.
This talisman brings me a lot of spending money and I am rarely ever out (except now, which is why I am recharging and donating my last dollar!).
On the other hand, talismans are a practical low-fund solution because one can literally be made out of paper slips stuffed in to a jar. No need to get fancy!
Try building different container talismans for prosperity, relationships, wishes, and protection.
Try adding dried herbs and stones of traditional correspondences.
Add representation of spirit allies who will help.
Include poems, images, sigils, or references of your goals and dreams.
Talismans can be simple or complex. Make them to your tastes and the preferences of the spirits you work with.
To build your own talisman, select an appropriate container and cleanse it using your favorite method. Cleanse objects and state their purpose as you add them to the container. “This dried rose represents eternal love within my heart.” “This quartz chip is to empower the other elements of the talisman.” And so on :)
When your talisman is assembled, charge it by placing candles on or near it and lighting them with intent to draw down power. Or, place it in the Sun and Moonlight for 24 hours, asking Nature to rise from below and complete the trinity of empowerment. In the picture, I placed a candle in the middle of the talisman jar. I dressed the candle with lodestone oil for extra power.
Place talismans on an altar or safe space where it will not be disturbed. Allow it to work for you; I see results within an hour typically but I have many allies so don’t be bothered if things don’t work for you so quickly! Give up to 4 weeks to see real changes; up to 2 weeks to see signs of change. Speak to it regularly. Give things time to manifest. Charge regularly or as needed (I charge mine once every… 2 years on average).
If you want to include spirits to help you in your talisman, try this method of obtaining a spirit friend from a crystal (modify from the ‘protection’ theme to your own talisman purposes) or this method for making a contract with a spirit.
a collection of country homes that I would very much like to live in 💫💐🌼🌿✨
I just love how I can barely even consume misophonia content (articles or just posts on here) without constantly worrying about seeing specific triggers mentioned and consequently developing said triggers. So fun 🤩 love how quirky my brain is!
Or when media created by non-sufferers will have the audacity to play a clip of [trigger] and then be like “did that bother you?? 🤨 congrats, suffer.”
How can I tell if someone has put a hurtful spell on me?
That’s a good question.. I’ve never had that experience, so I can’t really say. But I can probably help you figure it out. Maybe ask yourself a few questions:
-Do you know any witches? Cause if not, then it’s unlikely that they put a spell on you. It’s easier to do spells for people that you know, especially bad ones. Also, if you do know a witch, do he/she have experience with cursing others?
-What makes you think you have had a spell put on you? Having bad luck? Really sick and not getting well?
-When did this start happening? a week ago, a month ago? Sometimes spells can wear off after a while. Was it right after you pissed someone off (someone who might be a witch)? Was it right after you received a necklace/keychain/doll/other item from someone? They could have put the curse of that item.
If you really believe you have had a spell put on you and believe it comes from an item, destroy the item or throw it away. If you think you know who did it, politely ask them to lift it. Or you could go to someone you know who is a witch and see if they can figure out if you had a harmful spell put on you and get rid of it for you. (If the person knows you well enough or is a very experienced witch, they can tell by feeling your energy).
You can also refer to my Evil Eye posts on what the Evil Eye is, how to test for it, and how to get rid of it. There are other ways to get rid of it too, which I think I posted in another post. I’m not sure if the Evil Eye is different than any other harmful spell/curse, as I’ve never had any experience with these kinds of spells. But you can try that and see if it helps. I also have other spells for lifting curses which I will post soon, but I would not perform those spells unless you are absolutely sure that a curse has been placed on you. You would just waste energy on a spell that did nothing for you.
This is all I can really do for you. I’m sorry if it doesn’t help. Good luck!
Blood salt
What is blood salt? Blood salt is a salt used to negate magick. Think of it as a nullifying substance. If you need to halt a spell or break a working done on you blood salt is what I use. I came up with this recipe when thinking of a substitute of black salt that had anti-faery capabilities (we don’t all get along with the wee folk of the Glen or whatever) so first and foremost this is an anti bad spirit and fae substance.
Why is it called blood salt?
Because it contains iron. The most famous anti magic substance known to folklore and that fun element that turns your blood a red color (hence the name “blood” salt). Iron has been used for centuries in Europe against evil spirits and fae, due to the fact it seems to repel or on some accounts hurt faery and spirits that come into contact with it.
How do I make it?
It’s a very simple recipe, much like black salt which is salt and charcoal. This one is salt and iron. Iron is actually very simple to obtain. I used crushed chelated iron which you can find in most vitamin stores and aisles. However if you can get a hold on some good old FeO2 (iron oxide) or rust that’s even better. Don’t be afraid of making it your own and adding other ingredients that you feel would be useful in this mixture to you.
One caveat DO NOT ADD YOUR BLOOD OR ANY REAL BLOOD TO BLOOD SALT. I know is said earlier that iron is what makes your blood red. However it is not a good substance to use as a source of iron as its also what we would call a taglock, personal effect, or power item. By adding your essence to the mix it could be like offering it to spirits and fae, and you really don’t want either to have power over you. It’s like giving your real name or eating what is offered. Blood is also used commonly as an offering to feed spirits, so it’s kind of like tossing loaded guns to the psycho killer that’s chasing you through the woods. Just use good judgement here and practice safe casting.
hey Jim you didnt really do anything other than shoplift from a convenience store once and im behind on my quota this month. anyway if you look down youll see a bear trap on your scrotum
Ah, yes, everyone’s go to calmer and de-stresser: Lavender. I burn it and use the oil and have it in a perfume and drink it in tea. But why Is it so great for literally everything?
Lavender is a very useful antidepressant and anti-anxiety herb. I drink it almost every night in a tea to calm myself. For those of us who stress all the time (especially students who tend to work themselves too much!!) it’s a great go-to when you really aren’t feeling it. Plus, it’s great for those who suffer from insomnia or people who just have trouble getting tired at night.
A great combo for stress relief for your diffuser:
5 drops Grapefruit essential oil
5 drops Lavender essential oil
But not only can it help your mental state, it also helps digestion and IBS! It’s soothing for your stomach and has a sweet taste, which can make any tea smell and taste amazing.
Lavender tea blends well with:
Green tea (De-stressing and digestion)
Hibiscus (Cramps, helps regulate digestive/resprastory tract) [[only add a little though, it’s super strong!!]]
Chamomile (nausea, athsma)
Look for shampoos with lavender in them because it is amazing for getting rid of dandruff! If you have a sensitive scalp, don’t fret – it’s very soothing on the skin.
I’m sure we all know that lavender is amazing in witchcraft, too, but what can you do with it?
It’s been used as a placeholder for calmness and peace in ancient magicks for hundreds of years. It’s attractive scent makes it favorable in love spells, as well as its heavily used property to induce happiness.
It is bound to Mercury and the element air.
Little things to do with lavender:
Keep a satchet of lavender with you to promote happiness and good health
Rub the flowers on you to attract love
Burn stalks of dried lavender to attract money, love, happiness, good health, passion, protection and sucess
Put lavender under your pillow and think about something you desire. If your dream contains something related, you’ll get said desire
Grow it in your garden to bring good luck
It has been said to attract Fae because of its beautiful scent!
It can make a great offering to many deities as it is such a wide-variety herb. You can make it into a potion, burn it on charcoals, or just sprinkle it around an effigy to show how much you love them!
Just thought I would pay tribute to my favorite herb of all times. I use it in lterally every spell for different things, sometimes like a signature. I hope you guys can find a lot of help from it, too!

Guys. I just realized that Lilo is putting a curse on her friends. But like, an actual curse. Vinegar is commonly used in curses, and pickles have vinegar. And then she has little figures of her “friends”, drawn with expressions. Then putting them in the pickle jar, and shaking it. Another sign of a curse. I don’t know why I just noticed this now, but lilo is a witch.
I bet she’s a sea witch.

I’m simple when I charm things.
I literally write what energy/feeling/charm I want to imbue an object with on a piece of paper and then put said object on top of it. I then sprinkle cleansing salt water (maybe salt water, maybe my sage and lavender water, whatever is handy) on it along with whatever dried herbs I feel correspond with the charm. Then I wait and let it sit while it dries. Once it dries, I burn the paper and hold the object over the smoke until it’s done burning.
And poof, charmed/enchanted item.
If you can’t tell, I’m personally not a fan of spoken magic and rarely speak when I practice my craft.
