If you're still on the fence about voting, just wanted to drop in and remind you that the GOP has decided to go all in on the transphobia rhetoric. Just think about that and what it means—for your friends, for your family, for your neighbors. For the intersex people that will inevitably be swept up in this because no one cares to learn that the human body has natural variation. For people in prison, who will see their gender affirming care be reduced even further, amplifying the unjust punishment we force upon them.
Your vote, or lack thereof, has real world implications. People will be affected. And you cannot wash your hands of this choice any more than you can wash your hands of the environmental crisis we're living through. This affects all of us, and no matter what you choose to do, you ARE a part of it. Keep that in mind when you make your choice. As long as you do that, I can respect your choice.
What the FUCK. What the FUCK.
mercy seems like a long shot here, so my prayer for inauguration day 2025: may they be incompetent. may they just be really bad at implementation. may their egos choke their effectiveness. may they drown themselves week by week with infighting and selfish posturing. may they be easily distracted. may the very governors and senators and agencies and religious leaders that the new administration expects to be friendly force endless stalemates to preserve their own power. may every delay turn into a three ring blame circus so chaotic that no one remembers what they were doing. may the good and necessary parts of government be too boring to draw attention and keep running quietly in the background. may the next four years be full of sound and fury and signify nothing.
Planet fitness is offering free showers, wifi, and charging stations to first responders and residents in the LA area who've been affected by the fires btw.
i guess i'm not as despairing as many people about the future of the planet simply because the fact that we're not in way worse shape today suggests the earth is crazy resilient
Reading anything about environmental history is like "and by 1956 the river was so full of uranium and bubonic plague that the only living organism found in it was an single amoeba which died immediately after being documented" and I'm like okay maybe today's problems aren't necessarily uniquely disastrous and unsolvable
listen to me. listen. your actual job in life, and it sucks that your 5th grader teacher didnt explain this adequately enough, is to ask for help when you need it and to accept charity when it would take a weight from your shoulders. Otherwise you end up like Sisyphus- or even worse, Walter White
Since I’ve seen a lot of discussion about vandalizing Cybertrucks and Tesla plants to highlight Elon’s horrible everything including his increasing white supremacism, I cannot tell my fellow Gentiles enough to hold off on the swastikas. Yes I know that when you spray paint that on a Cybertruck what you’re saying is “your car is a Nazi car! You bought that from a Nazi!” but here’s the problem: you know who else likes to spray paint swastikas on stuff? Actual Nazis. And a random Jewish person won’t necessarily know the difference. So since there are infinite other ways to communicate that someone is a Nazi, you don’t need to include a swastika in there. If you’re legitimately anti-Nazi you care enough about Jews not to risk that.
“Many people seem to think it is foolish, even superstitious, to believe the world could still change for the better. And it is true that in winter is still sometimes so bitingly cold that one is tempted to say ‘What do I care if there is a summer, its warmth is no help to me now’. Yes, evil often seems to surpass good. But then, in spite of us, and without our permission, there comes at last an end to the bitter frosts. One morning the wind turns, and there is a thaw. And so I must still have hope.”
