From The Article:

earthobservatory.nasa.gov
The area of depleted ozone over the Antarctic ranked the seventh smallest since recovery began in 1992.

From the article:

A hole that opens annually in the ozone layer over Earth’s southern pole was relatively small in 2024 compared to other years. Scientists with NASA and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) project the ozone layer could fully recover by 2066. During the peak of ozone depletion season from September 7 through October 13, the 2024 area of the ozone hole ranked the seventh smallest since recovery began in 1992, when the Montreal Protocol, a landmark international agreement to phase out ozone-depleting chemicals, began to take effect.

There's a reason you don't hear about the hole in the ozone layer much anymore--it's been on the mend since the global community banned ozone-depleting chemicals in 1992. Remember that it is possible for the world to come together to solve large scale environmental problems.

Do you consider cat declawing to be unethical, and if so, what would you consider to be the best alternative?

yeah declawing is ABSOLUTELY unethical from a medical standpoint, and I'll tell you why!

so this is what a cat's paw looks like on the inside:

Do You Consider Cat Declawing To Be Unethical, And If So, What Would You Consider To Be The Best Alternative?

take a quick second to look it over, and note which parts of it are actually touching the ground and bearing the cat's weight.

it's the "palm" and the ends of the toes, right?

Do You Consider Cat Declawing To Be Unethical, And If So, What Would You Consider To Be The Best Alternative?

well, that's the problem. so you probably ALSO noticed that the cat's claws are actually attached to those last toe bones, which is why when a cat is declawed, they remove that entire last toe joint like this:

Do You Consider Cat Declawing To Be Unethical, And If So, What Would You Consider To Be The Best Alternative?

so the issue is, the bone that was bearing the cat's weight is gone. it no longer exists. this forces the weight of the cat's body onto the end of the second bone, here:

Do You Consider Cat Declawing To Be Unethical, And If So, What Would You Consider To Be The Best Alternative?

and that's a HUGE fucking problem. that bone was never meant to touch earth, the ends of it are covered in nerves and connective tissue instead of padding! putting weight on it WILL cause the cat pain, chronic-for-the-rest-of-your-life pain!

cats are terrible about actually expressing pain, but if you pay attention to how declawed and non-declawed cats walk, you'll notice that declawed cats put their feet down much more gingerly and are more hesitant with their first steps.

Do You Consider Cat Declawing To Be Unethical, And If So, What Would You Consider To Be The Best Alternative?

and this is because it hurts.

please don't declaw your cat. just use claw caps or keep their nails trimmed.

thanks for attending my TED talk bye

I just read that Donald Trump and his circus took down a website called reproductiverights.gov

This was a website to help women learn about their reproductive rights in the US and to find health care.

This is absolutely disgusting so I’ll share in this post some resources in case you need them:

Artists Beware! Please read if you have a DeviantArt account:

Artists Beware! Please Read If You Have A DeviantArt Account:

https://twitter.com/DeviantArt/status/1591113199218487300?s=20&t=4k4OiBqcoEj0GgFm5_zKDg

DeviantArt have just announced that they're launching their own ai art generator, and every deviation that has ever been posted has been automatically opted in - I've checked this for myself and every one of my own artworks now needs to be manually changed in the settings of every single deviation otherwise they'll be used.

To have your artist username exempted from prompts you have to fill in a Google form to be approved by a human, and you must prove that you operate under your respective alias to ask them not to use it - read more here

Suffice to say I'm livid, I've been on DeviantArt for a decade and I'm going to shut down my account once I've manually opted out my hundreds of deviations. On their promotion page for the new tool they'll emphasize that it's *totally within the control of the artists* showing an image of the checked box that opts you out, while not mentioning that all of your previous deviations are already opted in by default.

Artists Beware! Please Read If You Have A DeviantArt Account:

I would recommend that anyone who has similar plans as me and wants to leave the site should manually opt-out for every deviation before shutting down your account, just to be on the safe side because I'm not sure if just deactivating your account would count as opting out.

I'll try to keep this post updated with accurate and up-to-date information since AI related stuff can quickly cause a frenzy online - don't hesitate to DM me with any new information and I'll update it here!
