you'd been sitting there for an hour
when i came by
an expression on your face
like milk turned sour
i sat down near the half-finished thing
you'd spent your afternoon on
before you started crying -
i spoke first: 'what's wrong?'
you stammered
something about bullcrap and 'don't give a fuck'
and your lower lip tremoured
so i reached out and picked it up
it was a little thing. delicate. beautiful.
with loose parts that jiggled with a gentle ring
watching warily, you looked on as i pulled it apart
too frustrated to care about undoing your start
wordlessly, i put it back together
you watched my fingers move. unsteady. clumsy.
i knew you could do it better
but at least it would be funny
you giggled. said it looked like a butt.
'i'm offended! not like you could do as much!'
you laughed. 'nah, i think yours still sucks.'
'why thank you, I knew you'd be awestruck'
i handed it back with a grin
and you started over again.
that half finished thing.
In the third photo Ringling is actually just showing scad the new pokemon cards he got from ebay
aka possessions which are just possessions, but which have noticeably improved my quality of life: for when people ask you “what do you want for your birthday/Christmas/graduation” and you instantly transform into St Francis and pledge fealty to Lady Poverty because your mind went blank
nice. new. sheets. I cannot emphasize this one enough. if you’re still using the same sheets you had in college, you should probably get new ones. get yourself some 100% bamboo rayon sheets—they’re silky and perfect for summer and great for sensitive skin! or, if you’re cold all the time, flannel sheets!
kitchen knives. or even just one really good kitchen knife.
new curtains—blackout if you are a creature of the night like I am
fleece lined anything, but especially sweatpants and hoodies. wool lined socks are also good. if you don’t have the option of coming home after work and putting on an entire outfit that is loose and fuzzy, you should change that, because you deserve that option.
cookie sheets with a layer of air between the top and the bottom. the bottoms of your cookies will never burn again.
kitchen scale!!! no more leveling off flour with a knife and getting it all over the table!! now all your measuring is just shoveling stuff in and out of bowls like you’re at the beach. baking is both more accurate and also way more fun.
coffee bean grinder. if you want to upgrade your coffee experience, this is a great one-time purchase. just-ground beans have a much better flavor than pre-ground.
CDs!! ask for a gift card and expand your physical music collection! or a collection of the DVDs for your favorite show!
This sounds like the kind of story I used to imagine inside of my head as a 6 year old
This is better than any Marvel movie I have ever seen
Day 10 of barefoot shoes now! Here are some observations:
The ground is so utterly interesting!!! Especially the netherlands where everything is cobble and the footpaths are bumpy (bec the ground keeps sinking perpetually). I was missing this outlet of sensory info with normal shoes. I also like to wrap my feet along the edge of a stair.
Touching my toes to the edges of the shoe no longer feels like a stretch. In time my foot should expand enough that it naturally brushes the sides. I suspect if I wear my old shoe again it will feel very cramped already.
I also now walk more like a cat or a pawed animal for that matter. I see other people put their heel first, while I now put my foot down paw first. Apparently this is good not only for my feet, but also my leg, which should get thiccer, with the joints lasting longer. We shall see.
My socks don't get smelly at all and last for a week or more, though that maybe bec the shoe is new.

So my sister wants to start sewing more, because
a. She’s 5′ 11″ and can never find pants long enough for her legs or shirts long enough for her arms.
b. She hates synthetic fibers as much as I do and it’s difficult to find natural fiber clothes that aren’t made of cotton
c. She’s a biologist and would physically fistfight microplastics if given half a chance
So her gift from mom and dad for her birthday was a sewing machine. Not a super expensive one but a good solid serviceable one.
And recently she asked “So where do I GET wool or linen and thread that isn’t polyester” and mom was like ‘go ask your sister’
And I, of course, crashed into the group text like “GET A PEN I HAVE WEBSITES FOR U” and honestly I’m thrilled about this

Your teacher professor Eleazar Fig dies at the end of Hogwarts legacy. This happens in all possible endings and can't be changed. And Rookwood is the one who cursed Anne
