Note: this is pretty much my second attempt at writing fanfiction. I'm rather new to it! But I hope you enjoy!

In the midst of a gorgeous summer day, birds sang their hearts out as the sun blasted through the trees, creating shadows everywhere it shone. It was your day off from work, so you decided to take advantage of it. At first, you were just planning to sit inside and read for a while. However, the sunny weather prompted you to go for a walk. With your bag and wallet in hand, you leave without a specific destination in mind... simply somewhere else.

You turn right after locking your door, knowing that part of town will be quieter. After strolling down the street for approximately ten minutes, the unmistakable aroma of freshly brewed coffee reached your nostrils. Maybe I could use some coffee, you thought to yourself. As you followed the delightful scent, you found yourself at Coffee Bloom, a quaint cafe. As it was very busy in the morning, you decided not to bother getting coffee from the local shop near your apartment. Coffee Bloom's coffee had always intrigued you, but you hadn't had the chance to try it.

Upon entering, you are captivated by the surroundings. The cafe has a gorgeous interior. The walls were decorated with Renaissance paintings and bookshelves with genres from floor to ceiling. There were also garlands wrapped around the railings. The menu, oh, the menu sounds amazing. "Could I have a...honey latte with some caramel syrup?" You asked, grabbing your wallet to pay for it.

Drinking your coffee happily, you leave the cafe and continue walking. A man in all black catches your eye, and you know who he is immediately. The hazy glow of summer makes him stand out like a sore thumb.

While waving happily towards your endless boyfriend, you call out, "Dream!". Despite a slight head tilt, he stood motionless as he watched you curiously. No matter how many times he meets with you, you are never without a cup of coffee or tea. A daily routine you follow subconsciously, which he finds endearing. You even drink coffee when you dream. Your first question, every time you see him, is whether he would like to try your coffee. He declines every time since he does not need liquids or food like mortals. It's different this time around.

As you held the cup out to him, you exclaimed, "Dream! I just got this incredible honey latte, and my god, it's incredible! You must try it!" No matter how many times he says no when you meet, you can't help but ask. As time went on, it became routine. Though you know what he will say, you like knowing you gave him the choice. You definitely could not ask for a better boyfriend than this endless one. It is not uncommon for him to hold your hand and bring you close to him, even if he is not a big fan of public affection. He enjoys hearing you talk about your day, particularly when something exciting happens and you are practically bouncing as you tell him about it.

A smile cannot help but spread across Dream's face. As he reaches for the cup you're holding and takes a sip of the beverage, he says, "Alright, I'll try this honey latte since you seem particularly eager for me to do so." Despite your desire to make a joke, you decide against it. "Hm..it's not..unpleasant." He replies, taking another sip...and then another. As he hands it back to you, he says, "It's quite delicious, though perhaps a touch too sweet for my liking."

Before you could even stop yourself, you said, "Not as sweet as you, honeybuns." Your cheeks flushed red the moment you said it. There's no doubt that it sounds better in your head than in practice. As for Dream, he finds the whole thing quite adorable and amusing.

As he placed one finger under your chin and forced you to look at him, he whispered, "Never change my love...never change." His lips met yours in a sweet kiss. His lips taste of honey and coffee, making you sigh when you kiss him. It's moments like this that make you feel truly at peace, wrapped in the arms of your boyfriend.

Upon breaking the kiss, you interlace your fingers with his as you inquire, "So...how did you know I was here?" Both of you continue to walk as the conversation continues. "Was it Matthew? I bet it was Matthew. You know he once nearly made me break a plate because he suddenly flew through my window and spoke, scared me half shitless." A smile spreads across your face as you recall the incident.

Dream chuckles, a sound you will never tire of hearing. "Although he is incapable of sitting quietly for more than a minute, he does have a talent for lurking." He says. "To answer your question, yes Matthew saw you walking around and I thought I would join you. It has been some time since I was able to do so, I'm afraid the Dreaming has had quite a few problems lately." He says. Noticing the worry in your features he quickly adds, "It has all been solved now, no need to worry my love. I know how attached you are to my realm, if anything were to happen to it you would very much be the first to know." He kisses your forehead. Your love for his realm makes his heart swell with adoration. You have spent countless nights watching him create new nightmares and dreams, listening intently and with endless fascination as he explains their purpose and why he hhe createdm. Seeing how much you care about him, the Dreaming, and the creations in this realm makes him happy.

"I love you, honeybuns." He quietly says, watching you giggle at the word he repeated from your previous conversation.

Downing the rest of your latte, you pull him closer to you. "I love you too, Dream." And with that, you lean in to kiss him once again.

*slurps coffee and overthinks everything*

I am willing to put ACTUAL MONEY if I had any look dude I have student loan debt out the wazoo on the guess that the whole “mithril is made from the light of the Silmarils and we need it by spring or else” thing is a complete and utter fabrication by Sauron – damn sure now that he (or possibly an agent of his) is already in Eregion and whispering shite in Celebrimbor’s ear. I mean…it’s just such a Sauron thing to do. and the revelation that no, it’s not actually Silmaril-touched, just a really, really awesome ore is going to BREAK people – and yeah, by “people” I mean Tyelpë, mostly, because really.

ALSO, when you consider Durin’s (let’s be honest, completely hysterical) fib about the stone table? yeah, that feels like being given a clue to me. this whole thing is a great big tangle of absolute lies, and nobody’s gonna benefit.

(except for Dísa. she’ll get a nice table out of it all, at least.)

I do have a tendency to see intrigue where there is none, now and then – hey, I’m in the Blue Ajah, after all (if you’ll forgive the cross-fandom reference) – but, I mean. Really, there are so many layers of lies and omissions going on here, it’s just deception deception deception. People being deceived and deceiving others in return, being manipulated into doing manipulative things. and that? is peak Sauron. I mean…this a tree of deception and you can see all the branches! ‘Annatar’ lies to Celebrimbor, who tells the truth to Gil-galad, who lies by omission to Elrond (who gets lied to by omission again, this time by Tyelpë), who then lies by omission to Durin, who was keeping a secret (not in itself a crime, but)! No, no. It’s not a tree, it’s a cake. IT’S A WHOLE HORRIBLE LAYER CAKE OF LIES AND DECEPTION AND ELROND LOOKING LIKE A KICKED PUPPY
