this is my first reblog on tumblr and I don't regret it :) this is canon now lol
The Mall Cavern is like the best place for a four-way(or five-way) story.
Just think about it.
The gang walks in, and they all have their own plans.
Trixie is in a video camera store because she needs to get her camera lens fixed but the clerk keeps trying to get her to by a new one.
Kord is looking at new mecha and blaster mods gets into a minor disagreement with another grearhead.
Pronto is window shopping for fancy stuff and probably haggling for cheaper prices.
Eli is just walking around, seeing whatever catches his eye. Probably gets recognized by a few people, like other customers and staff. People keep trying to get him to buy their favorite product or buy from their store(because having a Shane buy from you is such a big deal), and he just politely refuses.
And the Slugs just get into slug shenanigans. (Obligatory something gets blown up with them)
The episode ends with Eli being called over the Malls intercom to come collect the rest of his team from Mall jail.
This is because;
Trixie punched the clerk trying to up sell her.
Kord 'accidentally' broke the blaster of the guy he was having a disagreement with during a little impromptu competition to see who could best mod a balster(he put a glitter bomb in the main accelerator)
Pronto got busted for being a cheapskate when one of the cashiers got fed up with him
And the Slugs, the Slugs, just fall through a vent conveniently just as Trixie, Kord, and Pronto are being let out.
Alternatively, the gang gets called to Mall jail to pick up Eli because in an attempt to hide from people, he accidentally ends up stealing a minor trinket he forgot to put back on the shelf/pay for.
Edit to add: when Eli is sent to Mall jail, he learns his dad got arrested for very similar reasons, the security guard straight up show him a photo of Will Shane behind bars. Eli is allowed to keep a copy
Team as family and domestic stuff is all I'm saying.
a bit of a tangent, but even though I've played flute since 4th grade, I never truly liked it till freshman year of highschool.
because I brought my instrument home, and didn't even care what I sounded like. I put on headphones and badly played along to Green Day and MCR, without being able to hear myself. It destroyed by sense of tonality, actually, till college. But damn, just feeling an instrument played in my hands connected me to the life and art around me. I loved it. I had loved art (and even fandom) way before that, but that year was the first time I found an outlet, where I could contribute to it all. I became addicted to this feeling (as seen by the content I post on tumblr and my irl occupation as a music educator).
and now I must answer the age-old (American) question in every public school and to every parent: why music? What's the monetary benefit?
and like, no I don't care if your kid is the next Mozart. I do care about them progressing in a craft, enjoying art and life, and doing things for the simple stake of doing them. I guess if all we care about is a brand, that is worthless. But if we care about living life to the fullest...
You can learn a lot about a person just by how they interact with art. Art does not have to be a brand, which, as a brand, would include standing for some message, or product. Art can, and has historically been, as mindless as breathing.
Art is not for the talented: it is for the human.
also we fucked up as a society the moment we started telling teens and aspiring artists to conflate being an artist with building a brand as if the two things are inextricable. the name of the game if you want to share your art is to work a job and sell yourself as aesthetizied content. back in my day we could just POST SHIT. to deviantart! what the fuck!
good, I can work tomorrow without crying. Cherish your pumpkins, make purple milkshakes, and thank the lord above that didn't listen to a single one of us who wanted Pete gone.
See you all tomorrow, this is fun!
you know, i've been saying eli and the gang make their money/living by being slugnet influencers, plus kord's actual job as a field tech...I think Kord's family could be helping out too. Like, sending money when things get tight, and maybe being part of the reason why the Gang eat so many snacks on screen in the hideout. Not to mention, their supplies could have been a major godsend in the Bandoleer of Brothers era where the Shane Gang could barely even move across Slugterra safely.
Also, how does this translate to when Junjie comes into play? Are they just like "omfg A SECOND CHILD TRYING TO BE AN ADULT???" and they send him books on Western Cavern culture and spirituality and slinging history and also more treats and a little money because he's gotta make a living somehow in the West while trapped and he has nothing to his name??? like. Damn. these peeps should be important side characters!!!
Seeing your last post how much you want to bet Kords family( even if we never got to know or see them) would try to adopt Eli,Trixxe, and maybe pronto ( might be a little stretched)
Because I feel Kord would go on and on about his teammates whenever he got a chance to contact his family and seeing that makes them feel happy knowing their son/brother is doing well.
What do you think?🤔
Honestly, I think the chances are pretty high, especially for Eli.
Like imagine
"Hey ma, pa, sorry for not calling,"
"No worries Kord, we saw the news"
"So it's true, your out slinging with Will Shane's son!"
"Yeah, yeah! Trying to take down Blakk and all that"
"What's Eli Shane like son?"
"Oh, uh he's a good kid, little odd, but that's given for a Shane."
"How is he?"
"What?"
"Kord Zane! That boys father is dead and he's stepping into the man's shoes to try and fill them! Did you seriously not ask if he was okay? Or offer your condolences???"
"IM SORRY!"
"That's it! What's the address of this Hideout? I'm sending that boy a care package!"
Trixie is just happy to be there, talking with Kords mom and dad, they remind her of her own
While Eli is just trying not feel like he's intruding. Boys got major mommy and daddy issues. And he does not want to project but after a hot minute he relaxes.
I would like to think Kords parents send the gang individual care packages every few weeks.
Pronto would probably get the weird uncle/family friend treatment tbh
its such an undertaking, plus there like no canonical info to go off of. legit alot of what i know is from one-off lines about "it took 3 days to get to futuria cavern!" and such, how often the gang goes somewhere, and other bits of inferenced info. the most pressing problem, though, is sluterra's geography.
some cavers are UNDERNEATH others. this is the underground. It's hard to decide whether a cavern is next to another, or under/over it.
theres CONFLICTING INFO. the mobile games have a few maps, and from what little map graphs we get from the show, those ALSO don't line up. it seems like going from scratch and deciding geography based on what the characters/plot tells us of the caverns is our best bet, and from there, we decide which mapping is most accurate.
so much work. I'll do it...after i finish shanes get hurt on ao3 tho, everyones been waiting for that lol
memes are fun and relatable and all that, but don't let them discourage you. all of that stuff that doesn't make it into the final product is part of how the final product gets made
my love is at war
[Trixie puts her wedding ring on Junjie’s finger]
Junjie: Wait, does that mean I’m married to Eli?
Eli: Yeah.
Trixie: Sisterhusbands!
Junjie: Sisterwives.
Eli: Okay, I can get down with that.
What are your thoughts about the southern and northern caverns if the show had kept on going? And what would you think they would look like in your perspective?
aye, thanks for the question!
the north and southern caverns....if u mean like as new realms entirely, imma be so real for a second, im not too big on headcanoning other worlds (and oc's either) for slugterra. like i love the creativity, but theres so much in canon to draw from and expand that i feel very, very aimless and antithetical against the show for really giving the idea much thought. the west and the east cover all the caverns of the world for me, and theres already SO MUCH space for headcanon-ing different cultures and characters there, especially in the eastern caverns! not to mention the burning world, which can kinda be as close to real life as we want it to be.
the northern and southern caverns do exist tho - they are the northern and southern caverns of the 2 worlds we know of in the show in my head, and the wikis dont say much about them. They are more barren than the more central caverns due to the extreme temperatures and historically being less of a place to live, and more as a place for researchers (and capitalists?) to explore and study. Tis could also be a hub for the explorer types like Andre from a distant shore, and hunting big creature types (because im sure the less populous creatures we see in the show live in those outskirts, hence why we only see a cyclops in a city center once in the west). I also like the idea of slugterran history from long ago happening there, and it being a bit of a taboo to explore (except for the explorers themselves, who can point to this taboo danger to explain how cool they are and ask for funding) - in my fic We Can Be Saved (WHICH I WILL FINISH) i go into a northern cavern mentioned in one of the mobile games and it was really fun adding slugterra history to Bonny Cavern, webbing the history of boon docs with the shadow clan, the shanes, cave trolls, and humans desperate for a healer.
I havent thought as much about the southern caverns, but I imagine large sentient bugs being more popular there (like the spiders from slug-fu showdown, the cave of which i hc to be in the south), and it being so dangerous that only experienced hunters go there for game. I especially like the detail in slugterra that all the caverns implied to be more southern dont have alot of life and flora - and most notably, a water source. living beings like not traveling for water! and apparently Mr. Saturday is from there, and considering his accent, using a staff, and face paint, maybe there is a secluded cavern of humans down there who live pretty differently! we know the cave trolls and moles have some different clans, i can see a slugterra where most humans banded together, but one or 2 caverns stayed pretty tight-knit and away from broad society, mainly the ones on the frays near the end of the world/shadow clan territory (that dont provide mining/exploration oppurtunnity for the main culture, of course, like the king of sling's cavern). I also like the idea of there being less roads in the north and south, due to the cave trolls knowing less about the inhabitants there and not making deals to pave their caverns, so naturally the average slugterran citizen won't off-road to these places without very good reason.
and mostly, i think there'd be more shane and shadow clan secrets, especially in the northeast edge of the map. theres a reason the king of sling and the town there is sparse, but very much alive. i can totally see there being a shane hideout nearby.
also? none of any of this applies to the eastern north and south caverns. from what little we saw, the eastern shadow clan actually is okay with other species's, and the groups are more integrated, which means that the cultures on the fringes of their map may be anything from spiritually relevant caverns to just regular cities with roads and relations to the rest of their world. no matter what hc's i'd go with, i'd want to keep this contrast, as i think this really highlights what slugterra is good at - implicitely making the shanes and their world an incredibly sketcky topic if you think and compare it to other places for too long.
Daily reminder we never see any farmers in Slugterra, and there's only so much Slugterra terrain that isn't shadow clan territory, so when there isn't a canon cavern in any specific region I'm just assuming that's where they make food.
So: ive headcanoned that Trixie comes from a farming village since season 1.
anywho, time to have a heart attack for at last 9 innings.
