Terrible Website Feature That Came To Me In A Dream

terrible website feature that came to me in a dream

so, possibly controversial opinion ahead, going off that post a few reblogs ago.

if someone feels it’s appropriate and fitting to call their ADHD – or honestly, any condition – a disability, people have no business denying them that right.

and i mean that without any exception.

gatekeeping someone’s experience by hemming and hawing about how they shouldn’t use the term, because of some specific line you’ve drawn between disabled and abled, is absolutely fucking ridiculous.

adhd, for all ignoring people downplay it, can be extremely fucking destructive to one’s life if not treated properly. impulsivity, executive dysfunction, inability to focus, etcetera: these things can literally crumble someone’s ability to live the way they desire. hence, in my opinion, it can be disabling.

it is one of the most classic forms of ableism: downplaying and doubting. and it’s ridiculous that it’s accepted on such a mass scale, even on this website.

what benefit does one reap from guarding the term so obsessively? what benefit does it have to our community? what fucking benefit does it have to the individual you’re bombarding with your shit?

enough of the bullshit. focus on building community instead of destroying it.

XOXO, someone with chronic pain.

OpenAI whistleblower found dead in San Francisco apartment
The Mercury News
A former OpenAI researcher who raised concerns about the company is dead at 26.

"Balaji’s death comes three months after he publicly accused OpenAI of violating U.S. copyright law while developing ChatGPT, a generative artificial intelligence program that has become a moneymaking sensation used by hundreds of millions of people across the world.

Its public release in late 2022 spurred a torrent of lawsuits against OpenAI from authors, computer programmers and journalists, who say the company illegally stole their copyrighted material to train its program and elevate its value past $150 billion.

The Mercury News and seven sister news outlets are among several newspapers, including the New York Times, to sue OpenAI in the past year.

In an interview with the New York Times published Oct. 23, Balaji argued OpenAI was harming businesses and entrepreneurs whose data were used to train ChatGPT.

“If you believe what I believe, you have to just leave the company,” he told the outlet, adding that “this is not a sustainable model for the internet ecosystem as a whole.”

Balaji grew up in Cupertino before attending UC Berkeley to study computer science. It was then he became a believer in the potential benefits that artificial intelligence could offer society, including its ability to cure diseases and stop aging, the Times reported. “I thought we could invent some kind of scientist that could help solve them,” he told the newspaper.

But his outlook began to sour in 2022, two years after joining OpenAI as a researcher. He grew particularly concerned about his assignment of gathering data from the internet for the company’s GPT-4 program, which analyzed text from nearly the entire internet to train its artificial intelligence program, the news outlet reported.

The practice, he told the Times, ran afoul of the country’s “fair use” laws governing how people can use previously published work. In late October, he posted an analysis on his personal website arguing that point.

No known factors “seem to weigh in favor of ChatGPT being a fair use of its training data,” Balaji wrote. “That being said, none of the arguments here are fundamentally specific to ChatGPT either, and similar arguments could be made for many generative AI products in a wide variety of domains.”

Reached by this news agency, Balaji’s mother requested privacy while grieving the death of her son.

In a Nov. 18 letter filed in federal court, attorneys for The New York Times named Balaji as someone who had “unique and relevant documents” that would support their case against OpenAI. He was among at least 12 people — many of them past or present OpenAI employees — the newspaper had named in court filings as having material helpful to their case, ahead of depositions."

Ice age children frolicked in 'giant sloth puddles' 11,000 years ago, footprints reveal

Ice Age Children Frolicked In 'giant Sloth Puddles' 11,000 Years Ago, Footprints Reveal

More than 11,000 years ago, young children trekking with their families through what is now White Sands National Park in New Mexico discovered the stuff of childhood dreams: muddy puddles made from the footprints of a giant ground sloth.

Few things are more enticing to a youngster than a muddy puddle. The children — likely four in all — raced and splashed through the soppy sloth trackway, leaving their own footprints stamped in the playa — a dried up lake bed. Those footprints were preserved over millennia, leaving evidence of this prehistoric caper, new research finds.

Ice Age Children Frolicked In 'giant Sloth Puddles' 11,000 Years Ago, Footprints Reveal

The finding shows that children living in North America during the Pleistocene epoch (2.6 million to 11,700 years ago) liked a good splash. “All kids like to play with muddy puddles, which is essentially what it is,” Matthew Bennett, a professor of environmental and geographical sciences at Bournemouth University in the U.K. who is studying the trackway, told Live Science. As much as I love cows the idea online that they’re these like, gentle calm peaceful animals is EXTREMELY dangerous.

I have had great experiences with cows. One of my favorite animals in the world is a cow and I love her to death and I give her kisses on her little baby nose and chin scritches. But that’s because my girl is a bottle fed, hand raised dairy cow. She’s been around people her entire life and has been handled since birth. NOT ALL COWS ARE LIKE THIS

The other four cows at my job will gore you for Looking at them funny. They are extremely dangerous and insanely powerful animals. Even the most well trained, gentle, peaceful cow in the world can fuck you up five ways till Sunday if you are in the wrong place at the wrong time. Do not attempt to approach any cow without asking its owner first. This has been a Tiger PSA.

I'm Thinking Of Posting My Art On Here Again I Really Don't Like Twitter Anymore And I Have No Need To

I'm thinking of posting my art on here again I really don't like Twitter anymore and I have no need to use facebook, so I figured I could start with this one uwu (also pspsp follow my bestie @muneaj their art is godly and they're just starting with tumblr) More info and icon under the cut

I never posted the full illustration I made that's on my icon uwu it's a bit old now but I'm still happy with how it turned out for the most part The blonde blue one with physics defying hair is called Aoi and she's a fox, and the gray one is Lumi, she's a Serval/Snow Leopard mix And if the humongous glowy heart wasn't obvious it's a queerplatonic flag, we need some more love for aroace and qpr folk They are besties and they are chillin and I added a big heart cause I can't draw backgrounds <3 I'll tag all of my art as "my art" and "kyuu's art" so if anyone wants to filter them out and only wish to see my reblogs they're free to do so

The icon in it's HQ glory
