The sun was beating down relentlessly on the sun-bleached sand. The heat was becoming too much to bear; it felt like stepping onto a scorching desert. With the temperature rising, all you wanted was to cool down in the refreshing water of the sea and perhaps lose yourself in the simple pleasure of searching for seashells in the shallow, crystal-clear water. You began to rummage through your bag, searching for your goggles, being careful not to disturb the sleepy figure lying next to you. Kuroo was sprawled under the protective shade of a large umbrella, shades on, appearing completely relaxed.

However, he suddenly peeped one curious eye open as he noticed you getting up, heading off towards the inviting, blue sea.

“Wait up!” he called out to you, his voice filled with playful authority. He swiftly got to his feet, his toned muscles flexing attractively under the golden sunlight. He jogged over to you with ease and instinctively swept your hand into his larger one.

Hand in hand, you both walked down to the water, leaving footprints in the sand. The cool waves lapped at your feet, a refreshing contrast to the heat as you waded into the shallow area. You put on your scuba goggles and started to look for seashells. Kuroo joined in the fun, diving under a small wave to get acclimated to the cold water. The icy sea felt like a soothing balm, cooling your overheated skin.

Multiple air bubbles break the surface as Kuroo resurfaces. His dark hair, now messy from his short nap, fell into his eyes as he squinted to examine the shells. He had a grin plastered on his face, so wide and infectious it was almost as if he was up to no good.

“Look at this one,” he said, his voice filled with blatant excitement. He held up a particularly shiny shell, its surface gleaming in the sunlight. “Isn’t it pretty?”

The six-foot-three giant had no problem standing up on his own in the deeper end; he could grab the colorful shell fragments on the floor as if picking up trash on the side of the street. He simply watched as you bobbed your head up and down with a variety of seashells in your hand with each pick-up.

He found every bit of it adorable to witness.

As you gathered seashells, he kept finding ones he thought you’d like, filling his pockets with your picks. “This one’s cool, right?” he asked, handing you a small, spiral-shaped shell. “Looks like something those mermaids in—”

He glanced up after a while and saw you standing a little way off, your figure silhouetted against the setting sun. The golden glow bathed you in warm light, making you look ethereal as you swayed gently with the current. Your goggles were nowhere to be seen, probably underwater in your grasp. He took a moment to really take you in. Your head glistened from the sheen of water coating your face, and tiny droplets clung to your dampened eyelashes, occasionally falling onto your cheek. The sight of you took his breath away; like a nymph from an ancient sea tale, otherworldly and enchanting.

The colors of the sunset painted the sky in shades of orange and pink, and the reflection on the water added a surreal beauty to the moment. You were a vision of serenity, a fleeting moment of perfection in the fading light.

Almost as if sensing his gaze, you turned your eyes back to him and smiled. His heart skipped a beat at the sight, and he couldn't help but grin back, his sharp features softening. He swam over to you, splashing water as he moved, not caring that it drenched your head.

“Hey, no daydreaming allowed,” he teased, his voice light and playful. “We’re on a mission to find the perfect shell, remember?”

Laughing, you splashed back at him, and in no time, it turned into a full-blown water fight. "Kuroo, you know I'm going to win this!" you called out, trying to dodge his playful attacks.

"Oh, confident much?" he teased, sing-songing, "Big talk for someone who's about to lose." With a mischievous grin, he dove underwater, the sudden silence making you momentarily tense.

You looked around, wondering where he went, only to feel his strong hands grabbing your legs. With a surprised yelp, you were pulled down into the water with him.

You surfaced together, laughing and gasping for breath, his arms still around you in a protective hold. He pulled you closer, his forehead gently resting against yours. "Gotcha," he whispered, his breath warm against your skin.

“You’re terrible,” you said between giggles, raking your hand through his wet hair to push it out of his face.

“Terribly good at winning water fights,” he corrected with a cheeky grin. His eyes sparkled with mischief as he added, “I should get a trophy for that.”

His monolid eyes suddenly grew gentle as they scanned your face. He slowly lifted his hand, his thumb brushing against your cheek to wipe away the lingering water droplets.

“Oh really?” you challenged, a playful smile dancing on your lips as your eyes zeroed in on his pinkish lips. “Maybe I’ll give you a reward then.”

You leaned in slowly, your lips almost touching his, and his Adam's apple bobbed as he swallowed any words that wanted to spill out. He held his breath as you closed the gap between the two of you. Just as he started to close his eyes, anticipating the sweet contact, you quickly cupped a handful of water and splashed it right into his face.

"Sike." You slightly stuck the tip of your tongue out at him, spinning around and racing back toward the shore, laughing all the way.

He stood there, momentarily stunned, before wiping the water from his face and snorting at how incredibly childish you were. “I’m dumping all of these shells back in the ocean!” he shouted, his voice echoing over the waves as he took off after you with renewed determination.

The sound of your laughter echoed over the waves as you dashed through the water, feeling the thrill of the chase and the warmth of the sun.

Treading back onto shore, he plopped down with you on the stripped beach towels, his tan skin glistening with water droplets. As he fished in his pocket, his hand made contact with one shell in particular that caught his eye. He pulled it out, pinching it between his fingers and inspecting it closer. The shell was intricate and beautiful, its colors reflecting the soft hues of the setting sun.

The sudden flashback of you, in all of your perfection, the sun kissing your skin in a warm glow filled his mind.

“I’m keeping this one,” he said to you, sounding decidedly final as he carefully put the shell back into his surf short's pocket.

You looked at him with curiosity, a question in your eyes. “Why that one?”

He turned to you, his eyes soft and sincere, a smirk playing on his lips. “Because it reminds me of you.”

In memory of what could have been.

Victor Drowning his Sorrows?

A little after the bombshell of episode 10, the observation was made that Victor’s all night drinking spree happened after Yuuri declared the pork cutlet bowl to be his Eros.

Thus it was proposed that Victor, who had been spending the last week trying to reignite the spark from the banquet, drinks all night to drown his sorrows.

This idea caught like wildfire to the point it almost seems accepted canon. I, personally have always been a leery of this interpretation. Don’t get me wrong,I find it very funny, but first of all the timeline is a little off.

Victor heads out to drink at least a day, if not a couple of days after Yuuri declared his Eros of the pork cutlet bowl, (there is a montage of Yuri and Yuuri both skating and off ice conditioning, which implies to me that it was more than one day)

The one glimpse we get of Victor out at the ramen shop he seems genuinely happy.

(Also I have become leery of an American point of view that interprets any occasional overindulgence of alcohol as necessarily having some underlying negative cause.)

Beyond the possible timeline issue, it could also be argued that there was some level of Victor being slightly devious in purposely leaving the Yuris together, since with their opposing strengths they could learn from each other. I mean look at the little smile he gives after discovering them working together

Then he later admits after the Hot Springs on Ice while critiquing Yuuri’s performance that he knew he and Yuri had been working on his Salchow.

That said, I recently have been examining the idea more seriously than just an elevated piece of fanon, and there is something there.

First, the scene directly before Yuuri’s revelation, we’re shown Yuuri in the onsen contemplating about how to express Eros when a completely naked Victor asks Yuuri to take a picture of him. At the time I assumed this was just Victor being a funny foreigner, but in retrospect I think it’s possible to interpret it as Victor deliberately trying make Yuuri discover that Victor is the target of his Eros. This post argues this interpretation really well.

Which follows to the next scene where Victor’s jinbei is completely open at the front, strengthening the idea he’s trying to get Yuuri view him in a romantic way.

We see at other times his jinbei is loose, but not as completely open as it is here, so this is deliberate.

Then after Yuuri’s declaration the smile Victor gives is ambiguous.

It’s certainly not his heart smile or the proud older brother smile he gives when Yuri finds his Agape, but it’s not quite his frozen upset smile either, making it a bit hard to really interpret how Victor feels about Yuuri’s declaration, though he does seem a little taken aback by it, judging by the sweat drop.

So, Victor doesn’t go out that night, but after the montage we see that Yuuri was forced to join Yuri in the waterfall.

Yuuri even reasonably asks why he had to come, which is a valid question since he had already come up with his Eros. Unless we accept the possibility that Victor might have hoped that Yuuri would come to a different conclusion after further contemplation. However, we could also chalk this up to devious!Victor theory where he was hoping by throwing them together they would learn from each other.

What made me think about this seriously was the realization that we only see Victor overindulge in alcohol twice:

The first is drinking all night some indeterminate time after Yuuri declared pork cutlet bowl is his eros.

The second was at the hot pot restaurant in China after Yakov told Victor that he wouldn’t interact with him unless he went back to skating.

Therefore both times we see drunk Victor are following perceived rejection, first by Yuuri and secondly by Yakov, the two people we see Victor really having an intimate relationship with.

This could also parallel Yuuri’s known issue of overeating in response to anxiety and stress.

So, I personally am still not sure how seriously I take the idea that Victor “drowns his sorrows” when rejected, the evidence as noted above is a bit circumstantial, but it is interesting and potentially offers insight into Victor’s character.

tldr: does Victor drink his feelings the way Yuuri eats his feelings? Evidence is inconclusive, but an argument can be made, I guess.

Victor’s failed Seduction

So I was rewatching Episode Three, and I noticed something.

Victor was trying REALLY hard to get Yuuri to notice that he was supposed to be the inspiration of Yuuri’s Eros.  I mean after giving Yuuri the assignment of figuring out what Eros means to him, Victor waltzes into the bath and does this:

And requests Yuuri to take a photo of him in the bath to post online.  Now the thing is, Victor’s been staying at the onsen for at least three weeks already, if not more.  So he should have 1) have already requested a picture in the baths before and 2) subsequently have known about the rule that photographs were not allowed in the baths.  

I’m under the impression he asked specifically to get Yuuri to look up and acknowledge his naked form.

“REALLY!?”   Yes really Victor, you knew that already, you’re shameless.  Yuuri doesn’t take the bait and instead reiterates the rules.

Which then brings us to dinner, where Victor positions himself in front of Yuuri with his yukata wide open

I see what you’re doing there Victor… 

Yurio see what’ you’re doing there… unfortunately for you, Yuuri has NO IDEA what you’re doing there. 

Pork cutlet bowls.  THAT’S WHAT EROS IS TO HIM!  Sorry Victor, you gotta up your seduction game.  Evidently flaunting yourself in front of the man does NOTHING for him.

I've been reading similar things and it's been bothering me. I get everyone is entitled of their own opinion/feelings and I respect that, but seems pretty extreme and detrimental for the future of Yuri!!! on Ice and for the fandom. So, I'm going to get it off my chest: - Victor Nikiforov is not dead. - Katsuki Yuuri is not dead. - They are not divorced. In fact, most probably are now married and with 10 poodles happily far away from Russia. Probably living in Japan based on Fukuoka or Hasetsu. So yeah, still together. - Victor probably skated one or two more seasons. Give it 3 seasons, because it was fun experiencing it with Yuuri. Mostly won silver but maybe his last season he did scored all Gold. Then retired and has been his husbands full-time coach. Probably even Yurio's choreographer. - Yuuri may be in his last competitive season or next one would be the last one given his stamina and how late he started competitive skating. He's won gold almost every year, perhaps even 2 Gold Olympic Medals. - At the moment maybe they're planning some off-season vacations. - ''See You Next Level'' is an open ending, so the story is ever growing and evolving. They're living. - Victor's past is that: The past, and it's gone. He learned from that, maybe Ice:Ado is him reminiscing about it before deciding letting it go in that frozen lake before Yuuri and Makkachin joined him there. He would rather live in the present with his two L's. - For really frustrating reasons, the movie is not seeing the light of day. But the anime exists, the fandom still exists and 14.5 million views on the announcement prove that. Also there is still content being created by fans, honoring the ''See You Next Level'' phrase. There, now here is a really concerned faced Victor after reading such funeral like good-byes and all the 'he's dead and his husband's dead' and everything in the world imploded.
