PICTURES DO NOT BELONG TO ME
How could you not admire her when you walk by. Daphne was a goddess. But an intimidating goddess at that. Only the really ambitious-or stupid- approached her, and attempted to take her on a date. She was never interested though.
Your relationship had been kept a secret from public eyes. Not for any particular reason other than the adrenaline rush of sneaking around. Only your closest friends and Daphne's sister, Astoria, knew about it.
It’s January, the air is still chill from December, casting an icy breeze down the halls. Most students shivered, but Daphne didn’t. She leaned against the cold wall, her figure the picture of elegance. She was dressed in her own clothes since students weren’t required to wear robes over the weekends. She looked quite intelligent, but also scary. The kind of person you don’t approach because they look like they could read your mind.
She kept to herself, examining her nails, her mouth thin in displeasure. Her head snapped in the direction of footsteps and low and behold there you were. Walking alone, messenger bag on your hip, eyes focused on the floor in front of you. Your pose indicated you weren’t open to conversation. But you always walked like that.
Daphne's heart fluttered at the sight of you and a smile blossomed on her face. She quickly walked over to you, her hand quickly finding yours. You looked up, knowing immediately who it was. You smiled, grateful at the blonde's appearance.
“Where are you headed?” Daphne asked genuinely curious
“The library. I need to return some books and pick up some new ones.” You answered
Daphne hummed, “Did I ever tell you about the time in second year when a book followed me around for a week. Honest to Merlin, I couldn’t figure out why. My professors thought I was misbehaving, so I got detention.”
You laughed, “It just followed you around?”
Daphne nodded, “Yeah but when it placed itself on my desk it would make a loud sound. Disturbed all the students around me. Now that I think about it, it was probably Parkinson’s idea.”
You stiffened, Daphne didn’t think anything of it.
“What for?” You asked
Daphne laughed, “I was probably standing too close to Malfoy the day before. You know how Parkinson gets when you mess with one of her ‘possessions’.”
You shook your head, “Malfoys a person.”
“I don’t think Parkinson ever saw him that way. I think she’s just always seen him as her betrothed Prince that she would end up marrying and living in a big castle with all of us as her unhappy subjects. ‘Course, Malfoy didn’t give a fuck about her until last year. He just liked all the attention she gave him. I think that’s why he still keeps her around.”
Your mouth thinned, “That’s sad, the way they both use each other.”
Daphne shrugged, “I think it’s better than one of them actually being in love.”
You stopped walking, and Daphne stopped as well, confused, “How do you know they don’t love each other?”
Daphne hesitated, “I think they love the idea of each other. What the other can give them. But if it were just them, it wouldn’t mean anything.”
You hummed in acknowledgment, “Do you think they could learn to love one another?”
“I don’t know, when you grow up the way they- we did. It’s kind of all you know. It’s uncomfortable to love someone when you aren’t familiar with it. It feels…unsafe. Parkinson and Malfoy don’t like feeling unsafe.”
Your brows furrowed in distress but Daphne cut you off before you could say anything.
“I know what you’re thinking. Yes, it was an odd feeling for you at first. I didn’t like it. But I do now. I’m happier now. So I’m glad I took that risk with you.” She squeezed your hand
You squeezed back, smiling.
——————————
True to your words, you were sitting in the library with a few transfiguration books open.
Your head snapped up when the chair across from you screeched as it dragged on the floor.
Pansy Parkinson’s eyes were mischievous, like a cat about to chase a mouse. Your mouth thinned, anxiety pooled in your stomach, as well as frustration. What did she want?
“Watchya readin their honey.” She smacked her lips together annoyingly.
“A book.” You answered dryly
Parkinson scowled, “I’m not stupid, I can see that’s a book.”
“Then maybe you can also see that I’m reading it.” You snapped back
Pansy stared at you blankly before smiling a cruel smile. “No need to be fiesty honey. I just want to have a nice conversation with you, that's all.”
She stood up and sat in the chair right next to you. You turned to face her, not trusting her to be so close and not be up to something.
“So how’s Daph doing?” She asked, but she didn’t look at all interested in what your answer would be.
“Fine.” You replied shortly
Pansy smiled a teasing smile, “Y’know Daph used to be such a laugh. She was always a mischievous one. Which was why I was so confused when she turned her back back on us, for people like you.”
She didn’t give you time to answer before continuing, “She spends a lot of time with you I’ve noticed. Do you have something she likes or…” she breaks off looking at you. She laughs suddenly, “Don’t tell me the two of you are seeing each other!”
You stiffened.
“Daphne always was unpredictable. But this! Now that’s something.” The raven headed girl stated loudly.
She moved her hand to your cheek and you flinched back, “Now, you and I are gonna come up with a nice little plan. You’re gonna break off whatever you have with Greengrass. You’re gonna tell her that she’s pathetic for thinking you could ever care for her. That you just wanted to see how far she’d go. Call her a blood supremacist or whatever. Break. Her. Heart.” Pansy said through clenched teeth, “Or, the next time we see each other, you won’t be getting away in one piece.” You froze when you felt the tip of her wand on your thigh.
She smiled cruelly, “See you around, honey.”
You were shocked. Frozen in place.
That’s why you didn’t notice a particular Greengrass sister a couple years younger than you was nearby. And she heard everything.
————————-
A few weeks had gone by.
You continued to see Daphne, not sure what your plan was. Ignore Pansy, listen to Pansy, try and deceive Pansy?
Pansy Parkinson was like a parasite. Most kids younger than her were afraid of her. So if she wanted to know something, she’d know.
Every time you saw Daphne it was short and quick.
You could see the confusion laced on her face every time you walked away with pathetic excuses that she could see right through.
You had been struggling a bit in potions recently so you weren’t surprised when Professor Slughorn sent you a note with an invitation for some extra help.
You made your way to the potions room, you caught a glimpse of Daphne, talking with her younger sister Astoria. You lowered your head and kept walking. You could think about everything later.
Entering into the potions room your eyes went straight to the teachers desk and you were surprised not to see your professor.
“Slughorn's out for a bit.” A frighteningly familiar voice said from the corner.
Pansy was leaning against a table, looking happy. But not a good kind of happy.
“When will he be back?” You ask when the silence becomes too much.
Pansy snorts out a laugh, “Not for hours…you didn’t really think the note was from old Professor Slughorn, did you?”
Great.
“What do you want now?” You ask annoyed that you had been deceived.
“I thought I made it very clear that you were to break off things with Daphne. But she looks almost as she was before we had our chat.”
“Maybe Daphne doesn’t care as much as you think she does.” You replied
“No. I’m right. I know I’m right. The question is, do you?”
“What?” You were confused
“I made you a promise last time we spoke.” Pansy studied her nails in a bored manner.
“You threatened me.”
“Pish posh.” Pansy said, “You are the fool for not listening. Now, what am I going to do with you?” She pulled out her wand from her robes.
Your wand was in your bag, but you knew the second you tried to reach for it she’d hit you. Pansy may be a bitch, but her hexes are pretty good.
“How about an apology.” A third voice said
Whirling around, you see your girlfriend standing by the door, her wand pointed straight at Parkinson.
“Daphne.” Pansy was very surprised by the blonde's appearance.
“Parkinson.” Daphne sneered back.
Pansy recovered from her shocked look, to a face of annoyance.
“We were just having a little girl talk. No need to be so hostile, Daph.” Pansy rolled her eyes
Daphne chuckled darkly, “Like when you threatened my girlfriend in the library two weeks ago. Was that what you consider a little girl talk?”
Parkinson stiffened and she looked at you with flaming eyes. If looks could kill.
“Don’t look at her.” Daphne's voice snapped
“How long have the two of you been seeing each other?” Parkinson asked, trying to look uninterested.
Daphne moved closer to you, “That is none of your concern.”
“How come? We’re friends, aren’t we Daphhy?” She mocked a pout
Daphhy? If it weren't for the fact that she was just plain annoying then that would make you feel the urge to punch.
“We haven’t been friends for a long time, Parkinson. Especially not now.” Daphne was shaking. What fueled this, you weren’t sure.
Pansies mouth thinned.
“If I even hear a whisper that you are messing with my girlfriend I will make sure you regret it, do. you. understand?” The look on Daphne's face scared you. Even though you knew her anger wasn’t directed towards you.
“You always were a fiesty one Greengrass. A poked dragon just waiting for the chance to sink its teeth into someone. Is that what you plan to do to your little bitch here?” Pansy said
The sound of cracking was Daphne's response.
Pansy shrieked in pain, her hands going to cover her face.
She pulled them pack and saw the blood that was coming from Pansy’s nose.
Daphne grabbed your hand, hard. “If you ever mess with her again you’ll wish all you got was a broken nose.” Daphne seethed
She pulled you from the room and dragged you up and up multiple sets of stairs until she just stopped in a completely empty corridor.
She turned to look at you, anger still blazing in her eyes. She looked at you expectant, like a parent waiting for their child to confess their wrongdoing.
You opened your mouth, trying to think of what to say but closed it when you couldn’t think of anything.
When Daphne realized you weren’t going to say anything, she began talking, “Why didn’t you tell me? How long has Parkinson been talking to you? Has she hurt you? I swear if she touched you I’ll-“
“No.” You said out of nowhere, “No, Daph you shouldn’t have broken her nose like that-“
“Did you expect me to just step back and let her talk about you the way she did!” Daphne thundered
“I’m not saying she didn’t deserve it but now every time she sees you-“
“She’ll keep to herself, she’s not dumb enough to try me again.” Daphne countered
You went silent at that.
Daphne sighed, running a stressed hand across her face, “Why didn’t you tell me?” She whispered
“I thought it would go away.”
“You’re lying.” Daphne said
“What was I supposed to say, that Pansy Parkinson wouldn’t leave me alone?”
“Yes!” Daphne shouted, “I can keep you safe! Don’t you understand that? I can keep you safe from all of them, they’re afraid of me, they wouldn’t mess with you!”
“I don’t need you to keep me safe!” You shouted back
“Are you sure, because it’s not what it seemed like in there.” Daphne laughed with no humor.
“I would’ve figured it out!” You said
Daphne went silent, looking at you with concern.
She walked towards you and touched your cheek.
“At least tell me.” She whispered, “I don’t want you to keep big details like that, I don’t want to not know you’re hurting. Because I…I love you. Don’t you see that?” She pleaded
“I do now.” You replied, “I love you, Daphne. I didn’t want to worry you.”
Daphne smiled lightly, “You always worry me. As long as I live you will always worry me.”
And she kissed you.

————————
“Okay, Hiccup, you called all of us here so what is it?” Astrid asked, arms crossed.
It was early in the morning. Fog covered the grounds of Dragons Edge and the air was especially chilly.
“I got a terror-mail from Johann-“ Hiccup was cut off by Snotlout
“Oh, come on! You dragged us out of bed because Johann sent you a letter!” Snotlout cried, Hookfang made a noise of agreement.
“No bueno, amigo.” Tuffnut shook his head while stroking chickens feathers.
“Hiccup,” Astrid sighed, “Please tell me whatever Johann said in that letter is worth telling this early in the morning.”
“It is, I promise.” Hiccup said
Everyone groaned in union. You had all been hoping to be sent back to bed.
You leaned against your dragon, enjoying the body heat they brought, as you waited for Hiccup to carry on.
“Go on then, Hiccup.” You said
“He said he visited Glacier Island recently-“ Hiccup began
“No! We are not going back to that bag of ice, no way!” Snotlout roared
Hiccup ignored him, “As I was saying, he said it's been unusually quiet, so,” Hiccup raised his voice so he could be heard over the shouts of protest, “We will be going to check it out.”
“This is what you woke us up to tell us.” Ruffnut complained
“It takes some time to get there so we might as well start early.” Hiccup reasoned
“Hiccup, are you sure this is a good idea? Every time we’ve been there we’ve nearly escaped death.” Fishlegs spoke up
“Those dragons aren’t exactly friendly.” You put in
Hiccup sighed, “I know, I know. But we have to make sure.”
“Do you think the dragon hunters have something to do with this?” Astrid asked
“What would the dragon hunters want with the Snow Wraiths? They don’t have the Dragon Eye anymore, we do.” Fishlegs said
Hiccup shook his head, “I have no idea. But I’m definitely curious.”
Fishlegs nodded in agreement.
“Everyone needs to change into their warmest clothes, we all know how cold it can get there, especially at this time of year.” Hiccup said
Everyone nodded and made their way to the clubhouse door.
As Snotlout was about to open the door, it opened for him.
“Surprise!” Dagur shouted, arms open wide as if expecting a hug.
Snotlout shrieked in fear and hid behind Fishlegs.
Heather appeared behind Dagur, a pleasant smile on her face.
“Dagur, Heather, what-what are you guys doing here?” Hiccup asked
“We’re here to celebrate Snoggletog with you guys, of course!” Dagur said
“I thought you guys knew we were coming?” Heather asked
“Nope, we didn’t.” Astrid said pointing to Snotlout
Heather turned towards Dagur, “You didn’t send them a terror-mail?”
Dagur looked shocked, “Me? I thought you were doing it.”
Heather shook her head, “No. We agreed you would do it.”
“No. We agreed you would do it.” Dagur argued
“It doesn’t really matter.” Hiccup interjected, “It’s a nice surprise, really.”
“Are you sure?” Heather looked worried, “We don’t want to be a bother.”
Hiccup shook his head, “You aren’t. It’s just…”
“..Just what?” Heather asked
“We got a message from Johann and we were gonna check it out.” Astrid said
“Johann? Is that the skinny guy with the long beard?” Dagur asked, genuinely curious
“That would be the one.” Astrid confirmed
“I think I stole his ship a couple of times.” Dagur muttered to no one in particular.
“What did he say? Maybe we can help.” Heather motioned to her and Dagur.
“Do you remember Glacier Island?” Hiccup asked
Heather and Dagur nodded.
“Johann said that the island has been unusually quiet. We think that the dragon hunters have done something to the pack of Snow Wraiths.” Hiccup explained
“And we’re going to check it out because Johann has never been wrong, and definitely hasn’t sent us on missions full of dead ends.” Snotlout spat
“A possible deadly mission full of wild, untamable dragons…I’m in!” Dagur said excitedly
Heather smiled at her brother's enthusiasm, “We’d be happy to help. If you’ll let us.”
“Of course you guys can come, Heather. You and Windshear would be a lot of help.” Astrid said
“And, yes…you can totally ride with me because I know you’re dying to ask.” Snotlout said
Astrid glared at him.
“It would be nice to have a couple extra riders.” Hiccup considered
You sent him an encouraging smile, urging him to accept their offer.
“Of course we’ll help, brother!” Dagur clapped his hand on Hiccup's back making Hiccup stumble, “With you dragon riders, and us Berserkers, nothing can stop us.”
“I guess it’s decided then.” Fishlegs said
“Alright, everyone, gear up. It’s gonna be a long flight.” Hiccup announced
—————————————
You added a couple more layers than you normally would, and just to be safe added some blankets and an extra jacket in your satchel just in case you had to stay longer than you would like to spend on an island made of ice.
As you and your dragon landed by the clubhouse, Hiccup walked over to you.
He held out his hand to help you down. You accepted it with a smile.
“You have everything?” He asked
“Yep, do you?” You asked
He nodded. He paused for a moment and then sighed.
“What is it, Hiccup?” You asked worriedly
“This. All of this. What could Viggo possibly want with the Snow Wraiths? He knows how dangerous they are and he doesn’t have the dragon eye so..” Hiccup took a moment to think
You sighed, “If anyone can figure out Viggos motives, it’s you. But, that doesn’t mean you should spend all your time worrying about it. We don’t even know if Johann was right, and the Snow Wraiths are gone! One thing at a time Hiccup, or you’ll drive yourself crazy.” You cupped his cheek affectionately.
He smiled gratefully and pulled your hand from his cheek and kissed the back of it.
“Ugh! Are you two done yet?” Snotlout shouted, obviously revolted by the display of affection.
You glared at him, “Yes, Snotlout, we are.”
“Amazing! Let’s get this show in the sky!” Dagur shouted excitedly
“Remember guys, one Snow Wraith is dangerous enough. But a whole pack of them-“ Hiccup began
“Is extremely deadly. Blah, blah, we get it!” Snotlout interrupted
Hiccup nodded, “So steer on the side of caution.” Hiccup warned while mounting Toothless.
“Of course, our dear Hiccup. We will steer on the side of most caution.” Ruffnut grinned mischievously
“We hear you loud and clear, H.” Tuffnut sent two thumbs up with a similar grin as his sister.
Hiccup sighed, knowing they weren’t going to listen to him.
“We’ve got a lot of ocean to fly over, so let’s go!” Hiccup shouted as Toothless jumped into the air with the rest of us following close behind.
——————————
How you were still freezing under three layers of clothing, you didn’t know.
Normally you would’ve tried to get your jacket from your satchel that was attached to your dragon's saddle, and risk falling off. But, the thought of falling into the water in this weather, was worse than the chilling wind that made your eyes tear up.
“There it is.” Hiccup shouted for the first time in hours.
You shivered at the thought of stepping onto the island of ice. But followed the others nonetheless.
“Finally.” You heard Astrid mutter in exhaustion.
Any other time of the year the flight would’ve been fine, even enjoyable. But of course Glacier Island would be a problem during the coldest time of the year.
When you hopped off your dragons back you took a moment to observe your surroundings. It was peaceful, just like it always was when you first got here. No sign of any disturbances, so that was good.
“We should spread out, we’ll cover more ground that way. Regroup back here in an hour.” Hiccup commanded
Fortunately, but also unfortunately it didn’t take long to find something.
You gasped when you saw the nets, you hadn’t truly believed Johann.
You tried to convince yourself that they were from the last time you had fought the dragon hunters at the island.
Your hopes were gone when you heard Fishlegs and Heather shout for Hiccup at the same time.
You all grouped up around Fishlegs who was holding a dragon root arrow. Snotlout was a small distance behind him holding his foot in pain.
“What did you find?” Hiccup asked
“It’s a dragon root arrow alright. I found it right around this area.” Fishlegs answered
“You found it? I’m the one who stepped on it! Why does this always happen to me?” Snotlout cried
“I found these.” You held up the nets.
Hiccup looked at the nets in your hand in distress.
“How do we know those aren’t from the last time we were here?” Ruff asked
“Because the wood I found was recently burnt.” Heather spoke up
Hiccup sighed, obviously much more worried than before.
Dramatically, a snow storm began to brew.
“Fishlegs?” Hiccup looked towards said Viking.
“These dragon root arrows are fresh.” Fishlegs answered Hiccup's unsaid question.
“How fresh?” Astrid asked
“A couple days, maybe. No more than a week.” Fishlegs said nervously.
Hiccup cursed.
Snotlout gasped and covered his ears.
“Hey, boss, the Snow Wraiths normally come out during the storms right?” Tuff asked
Hiccup nodded.
“So, if the Snow Wraiths are still here, they would come looking for us, right?” Tuff went on
“Yes, because they can make out the heat of our bodies, while we can’t see them.” You answered, shuffling closer to Hiccup.
Hiccup wrapped his arms around you subconsciously, still in thought.
“Can we make a plan before we all turn into ice.” Ruffnut complained, latching onto Fishlegs for some body heat.
Tuff nodded, his teeth chattering as he did the same.
Hiccup nodded and looked up, “We’ll set up camp and make a fire. The more heat, the bigger the target.”
“We want them to attack us? Give me one good reason we shouldn’t just feed you to the nest right now!” Snotlout shouted angrily
“I like your idea, brother. I’ve been itching for some action.” Dagur said, pulling out an ax, and chuckled evilly.
“Uh, no, we’re not going to fight them, we’re just gonna draw them out so that we know they’re still here.” Hiccup said
“Great plan, genius. So what happens if they are here? Do you plan on making us dinner.” Snotlout protested
“We’ll fly away, and head back to the edge.” Hiccup said
“Uh, Hiccup, are we sure that’s the best idea?” Astrid asked doubtfully
“No. But it’s simple and easy. We don’t want to be here any longer than we need to be.” Hiccup said, rubbing the side of your arms as a hint to the cold being a problem.
Everyone nodded and got to work.
“Sorry, baby. Daddy Dagur will use you soon enough.” Dagur stroked his ax affectionately
————————
With the tents set up, and the group huddled around the small fire they made, they waited.
You were close to Hiccup's side, both of you sharing the blanket you brought. You and Hiccup leaned against Toothless, while Toothless and your dragon used their wings to cover you from the harsh wind.
“They should be here any time now.” Hiccup reassured you
You nodded, wishing to believe him.
So, you waited.
———————
The blizzard only got worse and the Snow Wraiths were still not showing.
“Hiccup, we can barely see a thing!” Astrid shouted
“We have to make sure they’re still here!” Hiccup said desperately
“If we want to do that, we have to go to the nest. We’re wasting our breath sitting out here.” Heather said
Hiccup didn’t look pleased but he nodded.
When he remembered no one could see him but you he shouted, “Saddle up, we’re going to the nest!”
———————
Inside, you didn’t have to suffer from the harsh wind. Which was a big bonus.
You don’t know why you didn’t try to convince Hiccup to do this sooner.
The only downside was that Snotlout led you out of the caves (why did you guys follow him? Probably to make sure he wasn’t the one who found the Snow Wraiths first. He’d find a way to make them mad, if they weren’t already mad at seeing a stranger in their territory.).
When Toothless used his sound waves to locate the nest, things went a lot smoother.
You held your breath as you entered.
“Everyone, spread out, and look.” Hiccup ordered
You and your dragon covered one area of the nest but you didn’t see a Snow Wraith.
When you turned to report this to Hiccup, you noticed the look on his face and you knew you wouldn’t have to say a word. Because he already knew.
Hiccup shouted in outrage.
“What should we do, Hiccup?” Fishlegs asked in an anxious voice.
“We go back to the edge, I’ll send a letter to Johann, and-“ Hiccup was cut off by a gurgling noise.
It was coming from a small crack in the ice.
Hiccup flew down to check it out.
After he examined it for a few moments he said, “Fishlegs, come look at this.”
Fishlegs looked at the area Hiccup had pointed to and gasped.
“What? What is it?” Snotlout asked
Fishlegs turned to Hiccup, “Is that…”
Hiccup nodded, “I think it is.”
“Ooh, is this a guessing game! Okay, I’ll go first, meatloaf, lamb, hamster!” Tuffnut shouted
When everyone looked at him strangely he said, “What? I’m hungry.”
“Hamster?” Heather asked
“Hey! If you have a problem with my dietary choices, you can keep it to yourself.” Tuff accused
Heather looked at Astrid in confusion, in the return the blonde only shrugged.
“Hiccup.” He looked up at you, “What it is.”
“I think…” he paused looking back at the crack in the ice, “it’s a baby Snow Wraith.”
Someone gasped.
“Are you sure?” You asked
“Pretty sure.” Hiccup answered
Snotlout groaned in annoyance, “So if she asks a question, you answer? Your favoritism is showing, Hiccup. And I don’t like it.” Snotlout narrowed his eyes.
Hiccup just rolled his eyes.
“How did it even get there?” Snotlout asked
“Your mom never had that talk with you?” You teased
You laughed under your breath while Snotlout muttered for you to shut up.
“Hiccup, do you know what this means?” Fishlegs said in a concerned voice
“What? What does it mean?” Snotlout asked
Hiccup nodded.
“It means that this baby has been left vulnerable. He’s too young to provide for himself, much less protect himself.” Fishlegs said
“Well, we can’t just leave the baby Snow Wraith here, then.” Heather said
“Yeah, no baby dragons left behind.” Dagur said
“We aren’t going to leave it.” Hiccup reassured
“But, Hiccup, we’ve never seen a Snow Wraith outside of Glacier Island. How do we know we’ll be able to inhabit him anywhere else? The edge isn’t nearly as cold as it is here.” Fishlegs said
“Maybe, one of us will stay with him, while the others go get the other Snow Wraiths back.” Hiccup suggested
“It’s far too cold for any one of us to stay here for that long. Even with our dragons.” You said
“She’s right, Hiccup. Staying here isn’t an option either.” Fishlegs agreed
“Well, what do we know about the Snow Wraiths?” Hiccup asked
Fishlegs pulled out his dragon cards, “We know that they can blend in with the snow..they can only make out our body heat..and that they typically live in cold places.”
“What about the snow capped mountains back on the edge, those are pretty cold.” Ruffnut said absentmindedly
Fishlegs gasped, “Yes, that could work. Good idea, Ruff!”
Ruffnut looked shocked at being praised, “Oh..really?”
Fishlegs nodded.
“Well..you're welcome.” She said
“Good idea, gang.” Hiccup spoke, “Now how do you get this little guy outta here?”
—————————
We bribed him with a chicken leg of course.
Tuff had to leave the room before we pulled it out so he wouldn’t get upset.
Apparently, Dagur carries around cooked chicken legs.
He claimed that he was always getting hungry on long flights.
Now the dragon was nestled comfortably in Fishlegs arms. Sleeping peacefully as we made our journey back to the edge.
When Dragons Edge was finally in sight, Hiccup called out orders, “Fishlegs, Heather, you take the baby Snow Wraith up to the mountains and make sure that it can safely inhabit the mountains. The rest of you, to the clubhouse. I need to get something from my hut but I’ll meet you there.” And with the final word he set towards his hut.
“You heard the man.” Dagur shouted
What you weren’t expecting when you landed was a certain trader standing there, looking quite nervous.
“Trader Johann?” You said in surprise
“Ah! Good, you’re here. I have the most important news that must be shared with master Hiccup straight away.” Johann said
“He’ll be here in just a moment.” You said
But Johann just shook his head, “We don’t have a moment. I must tell master Hiccup this information now. Before…it is too late.”
You and Astrid shared a worried glance.
“What information?” Astrid asked stepping forward
Johann looked even more nervous to be addressed from Astrid.
“Johann, what information?” Astrid continued
“I was hoping to wait for master Hiccup..” Johann began
You sighed, “No need, because there he is.” You pointed towards the sky
Hiccup climbed off Toothless’ back with something in his hand. When he looked up, he was surprised to see everyone looking at him in worry.
“What? What is it?” He asked
You nodded your head towards the unexpected guest.
“Johann?” Hiccup said in surprise
“Yes, master Hiccup, I have urgent news for you.” Johann said
“We got your terror mail-“ Hiccup began moving to your side to get a clear look at Johann.
“It is not about that. Or rather it is, but it is new information.” Johann said
“And what would that be?” Hiccup questioned
Johann chuckled a little, “Well you see..”
“To the point, Johann. If this information is as important as you say it is, then we can’t waste any time.” You cut in
Johann sighed a little, “You’re right, miss. I was chatting with a few of my merchant friends when I caught wind of some dragon hunters heading out east. I heard them mention big, untamable, dragons who could see body heat. I was certain they were talking about the Snow Wraiths.”
“How far east, Johann?” Hiccup asked, sounding urgent
Johann perked up a bit, “I’ve brought you a map.” He pulled it from his bag and handed it to Hiccup.
Hiccup opened it and quickly glanced over the information, then nodded.
“Thank you for all your help, Johann.” Hiccup said
“Of course, master Hiccup. As always, it is a pleasure to serve you.” Johann bowed dramatically
Hiccup turned towards the rest of us, “Okay, gang, Snotlout, find Fishlegs and Heather and pass on Johann's message. Tell them to stay here and look after the baby Snow Wraith until we get back.” Snotlout nodded. He and Hookfang flew off towards the mountains.
“I'm sorry to interrupt, master Hiccup, but did I hear you correctly? Baby Snow Wraith?” Johann asked
Hiccup nodded
Johann gasped, “Oh, dear. If the mother has been taken from her baby she will be in much hurry to get back. You must proceed with caution, master Hiccup.”
Hiccup nodded, “Thank you, Johann. As for the rest of you, change your winter gear for protective gear. You heard Johann, the Snow Wraiths won’t be able to tell the difference from us and the hunters. Once Snotlout gets back, we take off.”
Everyone nodded.
————————————
“So how far away is this place, Hiccup?” Astrid asked
“Not far.” Hiccup replied
“You don’t sound too happy about that, brother.” Dagur commented
“I'm not. What are the dragon hunters doing so close to our island.” Hiccup responded
“We’ll figure it out and then we’ll deal with it. We always do.” You said
Hiccup sent you a small smile, and you returned it with one of your own.
——————
“That’s the island.” Hiccup pointed downward
You all peered down.
“Uh, is it just me, or does that island look pretty abandoned?” Tuff asked
“It’s not just you, Tuff. They must be hidden somewhere on the island.” Hiccup said
A huge explosion caught all your attention.
“There!” Hiccup shouted, “Ruff, Tuff, Dagur, you pressure them in from the right.” The twins and Dagur nodded
Hiccup called your name and Snotlout's next, “You two will take the left.” Hiccup looked towards Astrid, “We’ll come up from behind.”
We did just as Hiccup told us to, but where we were expecting a battle or flying arrows, there was a mess instead. Bins and barrels were knocked over, some had been filled with food, others with weapons, but not a hunter in sight.
“I'm confused, I thought we were supposed to be dodging the flying arrows, not following them to find the hunters who want to hunt us and our dragons.” Snotlout said
“If we find the hunters, we find the Snow Wraiths.” You replied
“Right, the dragons who also want to kill us. Great.” Snotlout muttered
A roar could be heard in the distance.
You and Snotlout made eye contact. A knowing, displeased look was on his face, “We’re going to go towards the angry dragon instead of away from it, aren’t we.” Snotlout said
You grinned a little, “Yep.”
“Of course we are.” Snotlout muttered
When the two of you got there you found the rest of your group was already at the scene.
One of the Snow Wraiths was fighting a couple hunters on the ground.
The gang tried to help but the Snow Wraith thought that you were a threat so they started to fire at you.
The hunters were too busy dodging the Snow Wraiths attacks to care about the rest of you.
You saw a hunter run for the woods, and Hiccup and Toothless following. You followed, not knowing where the rest of the hunters were and not wanting Hiccup to run into them.
Hiccup stopped in front of him, blocking his path. You stopped behind him, blocking his escape route. When he turned to the right, Toothless blasted down the tree. When he turned to the left your dragon knocked over a couple of trees.
“Where are the rest of the Snow Wraiths?” Hiccup demanded
The hunter whimpered in fear.
Your dragon growled, “Answer him.” You said
“I-I-I don’t know. O-one minute we were working, just like normal. Then that Snow Wraith cornered us.” The hunter spilled
“Where are the rest of you?” Hiccup demanded, Toothless opened his mouth ready to fire a warning shot.
The hunter screeched, “Un-under the island. There’s an entrance a few feet underwater. The rest of us were working up here.”
Toothless relaxed and Hiccup smiled.
“Thank you for the help!” You yelled as you dropped the hunter on top of a tree.
When you made it back to the others the Snow Wraith was gone.
“What happened?” Hiccup asked
“It just flew away.” Dagur answered
“We tried to stop it, but..” Astrid added
“It would’ve torn all of us to shreds!” Snotlout roared
“Believe me, it was compelling.” Dagur added
“Tell me about it.” Ruff muttered
Hiccup just rubbed his hand over his face.
“What did you guys find?” Astrid asked
“The location of the other hunters.” You answered
“Where?” Tuff asked
“Under the island.” Hiccup said
The other six raised their eyebrows.
“Under the island?” Astrid sounded confused
You nodded
“How far under the island?” Tuff asked
“Only a few feet.” You said
“It shouldn’t be too difficult, but proceed with caution.” Hiccup warned
———
You hovered over the water uncertainty. On one hand, you were ready for this to be over. On the other, you weren’t exactly looking to go swimming this trip.
“Alright, gang, I’ll go in first. Wait a few minutes before following me in, just in case it’s a trap.” Hiccup said
“Why does he get to do all the fun stuff?” You heard Tuff mutter
You watched anxiously as Hiccup and Toothless dove for the water.
And you waited…
When nothing happened, Astrid spoke up, “I think that means it’s clear.”
“Remember to be cautious.” You said before all of you dove
You held your breath as you plunged into the water. Given the speed your dragon was going it felt like a slap to the face. You tried to ignore the sting as you resurfaced under the island.
It was cave-like. A few torches lit here and there providing a little bit of light.
Hiccup stood (dripping wet) waiting expectantly with a torch in his hand.
Once all of you had made it in, Toothless led you all through the dark underground, using his special ability to locate the rest of the hunters.
The ground shook under your feet when you heard a bang.
Toothless let out a growl, positioning himself to be ready for whatever was coming. The rest of the dragons followed.
Before you knew it Hiccup was yelling “Duck!” and pushing you to the ground.
You gasped as you watched 1…2…3…5? Snow Wraiths fly past you in quite the hurry.
Hiccup's arm was on your back trying to push you back towards the ground. Toothless and your dragon were covering the both of you but with the speed the dragons were going at, no one knew if staying on the ground would keep you safe.
After a few moments of silence, Hiccup pulled you up.
“Well that was great.” Snotlout grumbled
“I’ve never seen a dragon of that size move so fast.” Astrid commented
“Me either.” Hiccup stated
“They had to be running from something big.” Ruffnut said, excitedly
“It had to be a-a…a dragon as big as this island.” Tuff said
“If it was as big as the island, it wouldn’t be able to fit in here.” Astrid said, annoyed
“Habitat change, perhaps?” You added
“Those both could be- uh, possible.” Hiccup said
“Well, what are we waiting for, let’s go take a look shall we?” Dagur said
Said person tried to fly off, but Hiccup stepped in his path and stopped him.
“What are you talking about? Clearly the problem has worked itself out. So let’s go home before we get ourselves killed!” Snotlout said
“Because we don’t know if the problem has solved itself, Snotlout. There could still be more Snow Wraiths. And we don’t know if the Snow Wraiths were running from something. So we have to plan this accordingly before we jump into the volcano.” Hiccup said
“There’s a volcano?” Tuff asked, looking around
“Yeah, it’s over there.” Ruff pointed the other way
When Tuff looked, Ruff hit him hard on the back of the head.
“Hiccup, we don’t have time to come up with a super brilliant plan. The baby Snow Wraith needs its mother. Heather and Fishlegs can only look after it for so long.” Astrid said
Hiccup nodded, “Yes, yes. That’s a good point, but-“
“She’s right, Hiccup. We need to act now, we can’t plan for all the possibilities. Who knows what being here has done for the Snow Wraiths. So, if there are more..” you cut in
Hiccup sighed, “You’re right. On your dragons and approach with caution.”
It was so dark, that without our dragons we would have run into the hard walls.
Then, something grabbed you off of your dragons back.
You screamed in surprise, feeling claws dig into your forearms.
You could faintly hear Hiccup scream your name in panic over the sound of your dragon's worried calls.
You were flying fast, you weren’t sure where you were going as it was pitch black.
That was until you were plunged into cold water.
Water went up your nose, unfortunately. And your eyes burned at the sudden salt water.
You quickly tried to swim up to the surface. Also, unfortunately for you, there were small tides pushing this way or that. You weren’t sure if you were supposed to fight the tides or allow them to take you. You hadn’t remembered these from before. Maybe because you were focusing on holding your breath.
You felt something grab the back of your clothes and pull you up. You coughed urgently, desperate to get some air.
A tongue was trying to be helpful by licking the water from your face. By the worried grunts you knew it was your dragon.
“I’m alright.” You gasped out a little
You felt a human body come in contact with yours, gently cradling you while asking too many questions for your mind to comprehend.
“I’m okay.” You assured Hiccup
“What was that?” You asked when you finally sat up on your own
“That's something we would all like to know.” Snotlout said unhelpfully
“We couldn’t see anything. By the time we made it back here it was gone. Just..vanished.” Astrid answered
“What do we do then?” You asked
Hiccup was deep in thought, “We draw it back to us.”
“What?” Multiple voices said
“Some of us will wait here while the others go out to be bait. When the dragon brings one of us back, we corner it.” Hiccup explained
You sighed, “I’ll do it.”
Hiccup sent you a harsh look, “No. Someone else will.”
“Hiccup, it already happened to me once-“
“I said, no. That’s final.” Hiccup said, looking very authoritative.
“I’ll do it.” Astrid volunteered
Hiccup nodded, "Thank you. Astrid and I will fly back. The rest of you, wait here. Remember, we don’t want to hurt it.” He said mounting Toothless's back once more
“Hiccup-“ you tried once more
“Stay. Please.” His eyes were pleading
Reluctantly you stepped back.
—————————
Hiccup's plan was successful as usual.
The dragon that threw you into the water was an unknown species.
Hiccup had already calmed it down, thankfully. Or so you thought until the dragon threw Hiccup on his back and flew off.
“Hiccup!” You shouted in horror, quickly mounting your dragon and flying up.
You paused when you heard Toothless’ worried growl from the ground.
Sighing a bit, you landed and mounted Toothless, while your dragon flew after you.
You had ridden on Toothless before, but Hiccup was always on the reins. This was new, Toothless and you were both worried for said boy's safety, in a place where the dragon who had taken him could easily dodge past all of you, so you had to search for him in the complete darkness.
None of these thoughts seem to occur to Toothless as he flew at record breaking speed through the darkness.
Minutes felt like hours as you were desperate to come in contact with them.
Toothless only seemed to move faster when Hiccup's voice could be heard.
Settling down in a poorly lit portion of the cave you jumped off Toothless and ran for Hiccup.
“Are you alright? What happened?” You asked worriedly while checking for any cuts and bruises.
“I’m alright.” He assured you and Toothless.
“What was that?” Astrid asked jumping off a Stormfly's back
“It was a very bad plan. As usual.” Snotlout commented
“It was amazing. One minute you were there and then..you weren’t! Like magic!” Tuff said in a tone as if he were telling a poorly written story.
“This dragon wanted me to see this.” Hiccup lit a torch and used its flames to brighten the cave wall.
Markings and pictures were shown.
“What does it mean?” You asked
“It’s why Viggo came here. He took the Snow Wraiths because they can see body heat, so this dragon couldn’t get past them, like it could us. And with the Snow Wraiths unparalleled abilities and the uneven numbers taking this guy down would’ve been pretty easy.” Hiccup placed his hand on the dragon sympathetically, “But, Viggo underestimated the Snow Wraiths abilities, and they were able to fly away before they could ever get near here.”
“But what is it?” Snotlout asked impatiently
“I think it’s…I think it’s a new species of dragons.” Hiccup said
You all were taken aback.
“Are you sure?” Astrid asked uncertainty
Hiccup nodded, “I am.”
“So, what do we do now?” Tuff asked
“We can’t leave this kind of information for people like Viggo to find. I’ve already copied a bit of the drawings in my book, but the rest of it…” Hiccup looked toward the dragon, a silent request.
The dragon fired on the wall, completely destroying what had been there.
“Fishlegs is going to be so upset he missed this.” Snotlout commented
“Heather, too.” Dagur added
“So, what about this guy?” Astrid asked pointing the new dragon
Hiccup turned to look at everyone, “I say, we take him back to the edge. He no longer needs to protect this information, and he’ll be better protected there. But if anyone has a problem with that…” Hiccup waited for an objection that never came.
“I call riding him!” Snotlout shouted
Hookfang growled and flamed his body.
Snotlout recoiled, he chuckled nervously, “I’m just kidding, Hooky.”
Hiccup seemed satisfied, “Well then-“ he was cut off by a distant growl
You all knew the look on his face, you were going to check it out.
With Toothless and Hiccup in the lead we flew back where you came from. Following the sounds of the unknown dragon.
When you got there your new companion dragon was already at the scene. Surprising you, but no one commented on it.
Next to it was a Snow Wraith fighting desperately to get out of a dragon proof cage.
“All of them didn’t get out on their own.” Astrid said tone filled with pity.
“It’s hurt.” You commented seeing the nasty scratches on its side.
It stopped making noise as soon as Hiccup held his hand up in the air.
“Hiccup..” you began
“She’s the baby Snow Wraith's mother.” Hiccup finished your thought
“She must have been fighting so hard to get free that she hurt herself.” You added
“Yeah.” Hiccup said sadly, noticing the scratches
“It’s okay, we’re on your side, and we’re going to get you out of here.” Hiccup said, approaching cautiously
When he deemed the dragon to be calm enough, Hiccup nodded towards Toothless.
Toothless opened his mouth ready to blast the lock but our new dragon companion beat him to it.
He blasted it straight through the cage.
Once again, you were all shocked speechless.
Toothless grumbled unappreciative at his thunder being stolen.
“Let’s see…it’s the key to the dragon proof cages and information on a species of dragons..and it flies really fast…I’ve got it! Keyflyer!” Tuff shouted
Ruff scoffed at her twin, “Keyflyer, really?”
“Do you have a better suggestion?” Tuff fired back
“No. But I will!” Ruff said, determinedly
“Hiccup, this is incredible.” You said
Hiccup grinned widely at you, “I know.” You could see the wheels in his head turning.
“But let’s not get too ahead of ourselves.” You reminded
“What? Oh, you’re right.” He turned towards all of you, “Let’s head home.”
———————
Hiccup's bed was far warmer than yours. But, maybe that was because there were two people in it instead of one.
You enjoyed using the excuse that Hiccup's bed was much warmer than yours so that you could spend the night at his without too many remarks from the others.
Hiccup didn’t mind at all, it was much more comfortable to cuddle with another human than a dragon that weighs 5x more than you do.
Your arms were curled around each other, barely any space between you two. If someone were to come on it would look as if there were only one body in the bed instead of two.
Most mornings you wake up and Hiccup had left with Toothless for a morning flight. He comes back eventually, crawling back into bed, so that the two of you could talk softly about whatever was on your mind that morning. Or, you might join him for a morning flight.
Your favorite mornings are when you woke up with him right next to you, no rush for a morning flight, just taking your time. Until, you are inevitably interrupted by someone. These mornings could be counted on one hand, but they were the best.
To your luck, today was one of those mornings. Snoggletog was still a bit away, but you and the gang did a few things to celebrate together before heading back to Berk. This year, Dagur and Heather joined in those festivities.
Hiccup was absentmindedly stroking the hair from your face, making you melt in a feeling of bliss. His eyes were unfocused, meaning he was thinking, his eyes were trained on the floor on the other side of the bed.
“Hi.” You said, voice quiet but it still came out louder than you meant it to.
He smiled down at you, “Good morning.” He softly kissed the crown of your head.
You hummed in approval.
“How long have you been up?” You asked, stilling his hand by your hair and intertwining your fingers.
Hiccup shrugged, “Not long. I didn’t expect you to wake up so soon.”
You smiled teasingly, “Oh, planning to do a bunch of Hiccup things before I woke up and started to annoy you.”
He huffed out a small laugh, “Yes, that’s it.”
Then, a loud bang came from downstairs as Toothless dashed up the stairs in surprise and jumped on you and Hiccup.
“Get up, brother! Breakfast is warm and tasty!” Dagurs voice shouted from below
Toothless lifted one of his wings to reveal a grinning Dagur.
Dagurs grin changed to a look of surprise at the sight of you.
“Oh, am I interrupting something?” He asked
“Are both lovebirds in there? Shocker.” You could Snotlout laugh outside of the hut.
“Yeah, those two are attached at the hip all the time.” Tuff said
“Imagine being with someone all the time, I could never do that.” Ruff added
“Same here, sister.” Tuff agreed
Hiccup groaned in annoyance, “Yes! You are interrupting something. Leave, all of you!”
“Someone’s grumpy.” You heard Snotlout mutter before the door slammed shut.
He turned to look at you, a look of regret on his face. You knew he felt bad for this morning being interrupted.
You smiled, “Breakfast?”
He smiled in return, knowing you weren’t. He leaned down for a sweet kiss.
———————
“…and there they were. Great great Uncle Hopnutt with his one leg and a bucket, staring straight into the eyes of the big bass, the size of a Toothless!” Tuff told his story in a dramatic manner that all of you were used to.
Toothless’ head shot up at the sound of his name.
“The size of Toothless? Please.” Astrid laughed, clearly not believing Tuffnutt's story.
“Don’t barf on the yak until you taste it, A. Double G Uncle Hopnutt swore on his other leg!” Tuff pointed to one of his legs.
“And that’s a big deal! Because..Y’know..he only has one leg.” Ruff added
“Oooh, what happened next? What happened next!” Dagur demanded like a child about to receive a new toy.
It was later in the day, you had just finished dinner and now are sharing stories.
Fishlegs opened the clubhouse door walking over to you and Hiccup.
Hiccup sat watching the twins with his arm around your shoulder, you were snuggled into his side.
When he noticed Fishlegs he smiled.
“Hey, Fishlegs!” Hiccup greeted
Fishlegs grinned, “I can’t believe you found not one, but two new species of dragons.” Fishlegs squealed in delight, “This is more amazing than I thought. And, you would not believe what I found out from the baby Snow Wraith!”
Snotlout walked over to us, “For the record, I was the only one who was brave enough to go in the cave in the first place. The rest of them were too chicken to go in.” Snotlout bragged
You rolled your eyes, “Yep, that’s how it happened.”
“Yeah, good thing we brought you along Snotlout or things would’ve gone south.” Hiccup added dryly.
“You’re welcome.” Snotlout said, examining his nails.
Fishlegs looked unamused, he opened his mouth to speak when chicken jumped on him in fright.
“Not cool, A. I told you that your face makes her nervous.” Tuff raged
“I didn’t even do anything!” Astrid complained
“Sure you didn’t, Astrid.” Ruff said accusingly
“Hey, get off of me!” Fishlegs pulled chicken off of him
“Be careful, Gronkle lover, she’s fragile!” Tuff roared, picking up chicken and cooing at her.
“Hey! She took my book!” Fishlegs yelled
Tuff chuckled menacingly, “Did she?” He smirked holding Fishlegs book up in the air.
“Give me that!” Fishlegs ran towards Tuff in search of his book.
Tuffnut through the book in the air, towards where his sister was standing. But instead of landing in Ruffnut hands it landed on Snotlout's face.
Snotlout shrieked as he fell over.
Astrid fell to the floor laughing.
Heather ran over to pull Fishlegs off of Tuffnut.
“Should we help them?” You asked Hiccup
He examined the scene in front of him, “We’ll step in once Astrid pulls out her ax.”
You nodded in agreement, enjoying the scene in front of you.
You and Hiccup laughed silently at the chaos that was currently your friends. Enjoying these last few moments together before you were sure to have to step in before anyone could get really hurt.

He catches your eye
“Everyone is here to eat.”
“This place is pretty, they’re admiring the scenery.”
“Did you see the way his eye just twitched?” He’s on a first date with that girl, he’s too busy trying to impress her to notice anything around him. Like how he’s about to spill the water right down his shirt.”
“You don’t know these people. They don’t know you.”
“Even if you were ever to be in the same room again, you wouldn’t recognize each other.”
“You look stunning.”

But he would like one in return
If you’re feeling overstimulated from talking to so many people he’ll find an empty area where you can be alone, or he’ll just take you home
He doesn’t care if it’s an important event you are his #1 priority
He’s subconsciously making sure that you’re eating enough and drinking enough water
He’s probably showed up to your room before with either a nice snack or meal saying how, “You have not eaten.”
He’s your emotional support person when you go out into the wild public
He doesn’t care if you cling to him or follow him around at a social event the entire time, in fact, he enjoys it
if he’s not with you, he’s worried the entire time
Like seriously, he’s acting like a parent
doesn’t like to be away from you if he knows you could be put into a situation where you get anxious (which is a lot)
Big on praising you
He’s good at noticing what your most self-conscious about and he just spends so much time praising it
He has a really nice voice too
Sometimes he just whispers to you while in public events about nonsense just to distract you or to make you smile
Doesn’t give a fuck who sees the two of you (unless it puts you in danger)
If you’re insecure about other people finding him attractive he’d probably make out with you in front of them just to remind you that you’re the only one he cares about
He probably has some anxiety too
He just doesn’t realize it

PICTURES DO NOT BELONG TO ME
The entirety of Beauxbatons was filled with the winter spirit.
Ice sculpting and painting contests had been held and prizes were awarded.
Even though they didn’t get heavy snow at Beauxbatons the castle was still cold.
You had changed from your lighter uniform to the one best worn in the winter.
The ballroom was especially dazzling tonight. Series of piano and violin music was played with the occasional upbeat songs.
Your feet were already sore. You don’t know how long you had been dancing, just that you loved everything about it.
The way your feet moved subconsciously to the song, the feel of Fleur's warm body pressed against yours, the way both of your gowns flowed as the two of you spinned, her hand intertwined with yours, and the way neither of your eyes left each other.
You were giggling as Fleur dipped you part way, pulling you back up so the two of you were chest to chest, the two of you spinned in circles as the violins beat began to go faster.
Letting one of yours hands release from hers you spinned her, moving your hands to rest on her waist as hers rested over your shoulders.
Her smile was bright, she could’ve made the stars jealous. Her eyes gleamed with joy as she looked at you. You smiled brightly in return.
As the song ended the two of you bowed.
“This way.” She said
Fleur was determined to learn English and since you spoke English you had been helping her.
She grabbed your hand and the two of you ran out of the ballroom giggling. Not even noticing the amount of eyes that had been following the two of you.
“Fleur, it is cold.” You said when the breeze outside hit you
“I know, but I wanted to talk to you in private.” She smiled
“About what?” You smiled back
She pulled you in with both of her hands resting on yours cheeks. She kissed you, once, twice, three times. And she pulled back.
“You are coming with me and my family on holiday, correct?” She asked
You nodded, “Of course.”
Her smile only got brighter, “I am so delighted to finally be able to introduce you to the rest of my family, and share my favorite places in France with you! Gabrielle is most excited you will be coming! She likes you, you know.” One of the reasons she loved you was from seeing you interact with her little sister.
You giggled, “I take it you have this entire trip planned out.”
Fleur smirked, “It will be very memorable, I promise you.”
“I believe you.” You said
She pulled you in for another kiss. Only pulling back when cheers were heard from inside.
“Come.” She grabbed your hand
—————————
Your silver platters were filled with the most mouth-watering food. Your glasses filled with your drink of choice, was in your right hand. Your left was intertwined with Fleurs under the table as the two of you chatted and laughed with your friends. Excited for the holidays.

——————————————
It was windy this evening. But you suppose that might be because you’re riding on the back of a dragon.
Your eyes were cast on the water below. Whispers about effective dragon traps being sold to hunters had gotten to Dragons Edge.
Hiccup decided that the group should check it out.
You had heard from some hunters that the shipments of weapons were around this area.
“Hiccup there’s nothing around here!” Astrid shouted from the back of Stormfly
“Keep looking! We can’t risk missing it!” Hiccup called back
You sighed, you’d been out for hours. All you could think about was dinner and your warm bed back on the edge.
“Are we sure that hunter was telling the truth? He could’ve given us random coordinates just so we’d let him go.” Tuffnut pointed out
“Yeah, we might just be wasting our time.” Ruffnut agreed
“We have to be sure.” Hiccup answered
You scanned the steady waters before casting your glances upward. The sky was pretty clear when you had left. Now it was dark, it looked like it was going to storm.
“Hiccup, maybe we should head back before it storms.” You shouted
Hiccup looked back at you, then maneuvered Toothless so the two of you were flying side by side.
“We will. But we have to keep looking.” He responded
“We’ve been looking for hours, Hiccup. Maybe it’s time to go home.” You replied
Hiccup sighed, looking at Toothless below him, he was clearly in thought.
He turned his head toward you to speak but was cut off by a shout.
“There!” Fishlegs shouted
Sure enough, a large ship was in sight. It was a little ways away but with the speed of your dragons you were sure to come in contact with it soon.
“Come on!” Hiccup shouted and dived down closer to the water.
The rest of you followed. The cold air hits your face in cold stabs. You closed your eyes for a moment, the air had caused your eyes to water.
You opened your eyes when you felt your dragon straighten out, becoming parallel with the water below.
“Astrid, Snotlout, attack from the sides. Ruff, Tuff, ring of fire!” Hiccup instructed
The twins shouted with glee, eagerly flying Barf and Belch around the ship to complete their task.
“Fishlegs, scout the area for the traps.” Hiccup looked at you, “We’ll attack from above.”
You nodded, signaling your dragon to follow Toothless.
Arrows with dragon root were already being shot into the air by the time you hovered above the ship. Your dragon expertly dodged all of them.
The ship rocked from the explosion the twins had made.
You expected it to begin to sink but it didn’t.
“Hiccup, it's dragon proof!” Astrid shouted, frustration laced in her voice.
“There aren’t any signs of the traps either!” Fishlegs flew up towards the two of you.
Hiccup groaned in annoyance.
Snotlout took that moment to speak his thoughts, “Well, now that those plans failed, I say we put my plan into play. Fire blazing attack. Snotlout!” Snotlout and Hookfang dived towards the ship.
“No!” Hiccup yelled but it was lost with the wind.
“Yeah!” “Woohoo!” The twins yelled following Snotlout
Hiccup tightened his hands on the reins, “Toothless, dive!”
You, Astrid, and Fishlegs followed after him.
Your dragon's tail whipped out, knocking an arrow from its path to Stormfly.
Astrid sent you a grateful nod.
The blonde yelled and jumped off Stormfly, ax in her hands.
Stormfly hovered in the air loyally, protecting Astrid from above.
“Down.” You said to your dragon
Your dragon landed on the deck of the ship, protecting your back as you pulled your knife out of your pocket, ready to kick some dragon hunter ass.
“Help!” Snotlout shrieked, he and Hookfang were caught in a net.
“There!” You shouted, your dragon blew fire at the net.
Only to reveal it was dragon proof.
You cursed under your breath, mounting your dragon.
Your dragon used its feet to try and lift it, but it was too heavy.
“A little help!” You yelled a little panicked
“A little busy. Gosh, doesn’t anyone respect the art of the fight.” You heard Tuffnut say
“I’m coming!” Fishlegs said
The two of you tried lifting the net but it was still too heavy.
“I’m here.” Astrid came over.
The three of you were able to lift the net up long enough for Hookfang and Snotlout to get out.
“We had it handled.” Snotlout said once they were in the air
You rolled your eyes but dived back down.
Hiccup and Toothless were corned by a group of hunters. Your dragon sent a blast, knocking the hunters out the way, and creating a path for Toothless and Hiccup.
The rain started coming down heavily.
The clouds were dark and it was hard to see anything other than your dragon blast.
Which is why you didn’t see a hunter cut a rope till a dragon proof cage fell down, trapping Hiccup and Toothless.
“Drop me here.” You instructed your dragon. You hopped off its back and pulled out your blade once more.
You punched the first hunter you came in contact with, knocking him out. You searched through his jacket hoping to find the key to the cage.
Your dragon roared, alerting you of the hunter that was running towards you. You dodged his attack. You turned ready to fight, just to notice he had knocked himself out by accidentally banging his head on a wooden pole while grabbing for you.
You repeated your process, but still no key.
You heard a deep chuckle and saw a hunter aiming an arrow at the twins.
You tackled him to the floor. His large hands trying to push you off so he could run away.
You noticed the keys at the last second, grabbing them from his belt without him noticing as he ran for shelter. Only to be stopped by a blast from Hookfang.
You rushed over to Hiccup and Toothless, quickly letting them out.
“It must have been a trap.” Hiccup said, “Get in the air, quick!” He shouted, mounting Toothless and flying upward.
You looked around but you couldn’t spot your dragon with the rain. You could hear them, but you couldn’t see them.
You looked back toward where Hiccup had been but he too was gone.
They were still here, you could hear them, even over the sound of the pouring rain, you could hear them.
Before you could call for your dragon, a firm grip grasped your wrist, the one with the bad that was holding your knife, and they turned it, hard.
You shrieked in pain.
You could hear your dragon call out in worry after hearing your pain. But they couldn’t get to you with all the arrows.
After an arrow narrowly missed their eye you had had enough.
“Go! Go with the others!” You shouted but your dragon didn’t move, “Go, there’s nothing you can do for me right now!” Your dragon roared regretfully.
The hunter holding you placed their hand over your mouth.
“Stay still pretty.” The hunter whispered
Angered, you bit down on his hand.
The hunter staggered back in pain. You tried to make a run for it, but you had already been surrounded by armed hunters.
You placed your hands up in defeat. You couldn’t fight ten to twelve hunters by yourself.
You thought they were just going to tie your wrists when a hand came from behind you, placing a cloth over your mouth.
You gasped in surprise.
Soon, your vision was fading, and you couldn’t tell the difference between the rain and your pounding heart.
————————
You coughed, again, and again, until you were fully conscious.
“Quiet brother, our guest has awakened.” A frighteningly familiar voice said
You looked up in shock. Sure enough it was Viggo with Ryker standing threateningly behind him.
“Sleep well?” Viggo asked faux kindness
You only glared back.
Viggo shrugged, unphased, “Fair enough.” He muttered
“I say we slit her throat.” Ryker said
You shivered involuntarily in fear.
Viggo sighed, clearly annoyed, “I’ve told you this big brother, we need her alive for this to work.”
“Just tell the dragon riders that she is alive.” Ryker said
Viggo shook his head, looking like a disappointed father, “Hiccup is too smart for that. We need her alive and well. Now…” He turned to look at you, his expression changing back to the faux friendliness, “Is there anything you’d like to share with us?” He asked
You glared in return, partly because you wanted to annoy them, and partly because your throat ached.
Viggo sighed, disappointed but not surprised, “Very well, throw her in a cell till we reach land.”
Two lower ranking guards nodded and picked you up, one of them on each arm.
You went to stand as they began moving but collapsed.
Viggo looked at you, again unsurprised, “I probably should’ve mentioned that you won’t be able to walk properly for a little while. Some side effects of the poison.”
Your eyes widened but he didn’t cast a second glance at you.
The guards dragged you downstairs and threw you into a dragon proof cell.
You looked around and saw that there were dragons in the other cells.
None the same type as your dragon, but there was a deadly nadder, which reminded you of Astrid and Stormfly. A couple gronckles too, which made you think of Fishlegs and Meatlug.
Astrid would’ve come up with a plan to get you out of here. She would’ve been able to take out the guards no problem.
Fishlegs would’ve known what they gave you. He would’ve known what to use to heal you.
The twins would’ve talked about something stupid and come up with jokes during inappropriate times that would’ve made you want to laugh.
Snotlout would’ve complained about being trapped. He would name all of his favorite things and complain that he’d never get to do them again. He might’ve even sung some of the lullaby’s his mother used to sing to him.
And Hiccup…oh how you wish Hiccup was here. You didn’t want to be alone. Surrounded by enemies and dragons that wanted nothing to do with you. Hiccup would’ve tried to befriend the dragons so they could both escape.
You didn’t have the energy for that though. You were tired. You were so tired. Your head hurts. The wooden walls of the ship were extremely uncomfortable but they were all you had.
You wanted your dragon, or your friends. You wanted Hiccup. He’d convince you that everything would be okay, even if they weren’t.
But you were all alone.
————————————
You were awakened by the sound of metal banging.
One of the hunters was banging his ax against the bars of your cell. He was grinning.
You clenched your teeth, wanting nothing more than to knock out his teeth.
“Wakey wakey.” He said, waving his ax as if he was greeting you with a wave of the hand.
You growled under your breath in annoyance.
“Ryker said to take you above deck.” The man said, using his keys to unlock your cell.
The dragons around you roared in protest.
“Oh shut up you stupid lizards!” The man yelled
You clenched your teeth. One, he needed to be punched, preferably by you. Two, the loud noises were not helping your headache.
The hunter yanked you up by your arm, causing you to gasp in pain.
“Whoops, did I hurt you.” He laughed
You considered trying to trip him, but then shut down the idea knowing if he went down you went down with him.
Your legs dragged on the floor through the lower deck and the steps were worse.
The hunter grumbled because he had to practically carry you up.
The feeling of the sun was the same as running head first into a tree.
You could barely keep your eyes open.
“Oh, looks who’s awake.” Ryker said, “You, take her down to the tent next to Viggos. Tie her to the bedpost and leave.”
You guessed he was addressing the hunter that was currently yanking you around because suddenly you were being dragged down a ramp.
Again, not good, not good at all.
You heard the sound of fabric being moved and the sun wasn’t as bright behind your eyes, so you assumed you were now in said tent.
You opened up and sure enough, you were right.
The guard used some rope to tie one of your wrists to the bedpost. He made sure to do it extra tight.
You fought the urge to cry out as you felt the rope dig into your skin.
The hunter sneered at the sight of you helpless, but followed his orders and walked out without a word.
You rested your head on the bed. You felt like you had been thrown off a mountain.
A few moments later you heard the tent open, for a moment you wondered if it was Viggo. And the hopeful side of you hoped it was one of your friends.
It was neither. This time, it was a different hunter. He was carrying a plate of plate in one hand and a cup with what you assumed was water in the other.
You wondered if he wanted you to watch him eat. Or if Viggo had sent him to make you watch him eat.
“Viggo says you should eat.” The hunter said
Of course. “Alive and well.” Viggo had said.
Hiccup wouldn’t be happy to find out they had starved you. Then again he probably wasn’t happy they kidnapped you either.
As the hunter walked back out you peered at your food.
It was a well served plate. Plenty of food to eat, and it looked good as well. It smelled good too.
But looking at it made you nauseous. So you decided against eating.
You reached for the cup of water, as you wrapped your hands around it a loud sound could be heard from outside your tent. You jumped in surprise and your water spilled, with barely a couple drops of water left in your cup.
You wanted to cry out in frustration.
You once again hoped for your friends to be on the other side of the tent but once again you were disappointed to hear Ryker shouting at some men for dropping something.
You sighed, laying your head back once more in hope to sleep until your friends got here.
———————-
“-up. Wake up!” A voice shouted
You jumped, opening your eyes to see Ryker in front of you with an impatient expression.
“Lucky you, your friends have come to save you.” He said
He hauled you up and you were dragged out into an open field.
The sun had mostly gone down, the sky was dark. Thankfully you could keep your eyes open now without a headache.
Walking further you could make out Viggos back, getting closer you could finally make them out. The dragon riders, your friends, stood together, with Hiccup at the front.
Oh you could cry in joy.
You heard a familiar roar. Your dragon was here too. Hovering above and looking straight at you.
Your dragon had announced your presence as all your friends looked over to you at once.
Some looked shocked, others relieved, some angry. A couple had a mixture.
Hiccup called out your name and stepped forward but Viggo held up his hand and stepped to the side in front of you. Viggo blocked your view from Hiccup and in turn blocked Hiccup's view to you.
“I’m a businessman Hiccup. One does not make these types of transactions without getting something in return.” Viggo said
“What do you want Viggo?” Hiccup asked, he sounded very frustrated.
“I want the papers you stole from me. Do you have them?”
Hiccup didn’t answer for a moment but seeing the back of Viggos head nod you assumed that Hiccup did have them.
You heard the sound of a buckle and some footsteps. You saw Viggos hand reach out but it stopped midway.
“One doesn’t make a trade without getting something in return.” Hiccup said
Viggo chuckled in amusement, “Yes yes. Big brother.”
Ryker walked forward with you. When you could see Hiccup again you could make out the stress in his posture and the worry in his eyes. You tried to smile but it probably didn’t look right.
“Do we have a deal?” Viggo asked
Hiccup sighed, “We have a deal.” He outstretched his hand with the pieces of parchment.
Viggo took them, opened them, scanned them, then nodded toward Ryker.
Ryker pushed you forward and Hiccup caught you.
Your face was against his chest and you breathed in his scent.
“It’s okay, it’s okay.” Hiccup tried to sooth you.
“What did you do to her?” Fishlegs cried
“Relax. It’s simply a side effect of the poison.” Viggo answered
You heard a collected gasp from your friends.
“You poisoned her!” Snotlout yelled
“You monster!” Fishlegs said
“How dare you!” Astrid screamed
“Not cool, dude.” Tuffnut said
“So, not cool.” Ruffnut agreed
“It’s a common poison, I assure you. I’m sure you’ll be able to heal her just fine.” Viggo said, unphased
“We better.” Hiccup threatened
“Farewell, dragon riders. I’m sure we will see each other very soon.” Viggo said
Hiccup, and you guessed Astrid helped you walk over to Toothless. There was no way you could fly your dragon, you knew that.
Astrid and Fishlegs helped you on to Toothless after Hiccup mounted.
Your back rested against Hiccup's chest. His arms come around your waist to hold onto the reins.
“We’ll be home soon enough.” Hiccup whispered
That was the last thing you heard before you fell asleep.
——————————-
The next morning was odd.
Like waking up after a dream kind of odd.
You realized that a damp cloth rested on your forehead. You reached up to grab it when a hand, gently this time, grabbed your wrist.
“Leave it be. It’s meant to help you.” A voice muttered
“Hiccup.” You rasped
“Hey, yeah, it’s me.” Hiccup said, placing his hand over yours.
You heard a quiet grumble.
Hiccup looked over his shoulder, “And these guys too.”
Looking over, Toothless and your dragon were watching the two of you closely.
“Hey guys.” You said weakly
Your dragon walked over to you carefully. They gently rubbed their head against yours.
“I missed you too.” You whispered
“She’s awake!” Another voice said
You grimaced at how loud they were speaking.
“Sorry.” You heard them say
Fishlegs and Meatlug were walking toward you.
Hiccup moved from the chair he was sitting on so Fishlegs could get a better look at you.
Fishlegs examined you for a few moments before asking, “How do you feel?”
“Better.” You responded, “Thank you.”
“Of course.” Fishlegs replied
You looked toward Meatlug, “What’s the final judgment, doc?”
Meatlug grumbled something and Fishlegs translated, “She said you’ll make a full recovery.”
“Thank the gods, you’re alright.” A new voice said
Astrid made her way into view and smiled down at you.
“You really had us worried, you know.” Astrid added
“Not me though.” Snotlout added in
Everyone glared at him and he went quiet.
“She’s awake?” Tuffnut asked
“Of course she’s awake, look at her!” Ruff replied, “Have you ever seen someone sleep with their eyes open?”
Tuff went into his thinking face, “Well, there was this one time we were at…”
Hiccup made his way back over to you and grabbed your hand.
“Perhaps we should go.” Astrid said
“I agree.” Fishlegs said
“What? But we just got here!” Ruff said
“Yeah! She’s our friend too, why does Hiccup get to hog her?” Tuff added in
Astrid grabbed both of them by the shoulders and walked them out, Fishlegs and Snotlout following behind. Not before Snotlout sent a disgusted look towards the two of you though.
Hiccup sent a look toward the dragons, a silent request, and they too left.
“Thank you for coming back for me.” You whispered
“You didn’t think we were gonna leave you there, did you?” Hiccup chuckled
You smiled, “I knew you would come back for me.”
Hiccup smiled too, “I would never not come back for you.”

PICTURES ARE NOT MINE
The sun was setting outside, the clouds and the orange glow from the sun made the sky look like a painting. The glass towers of Alicante only added to the beautiful scenery. For a moment or two you couldn’t take your eyes from the scene.
Then you heard a loud crash and your head involuntarily turned to see what was going on. Your mind swirled with the worst possible scenarios.
You were relieved to see that it was just a vampire who dropped his glass of blood.
The relief didn’t last long as you noticed that the blood had stained a faeries dress. She had dark green skin with light violet eyes. Her teeth were pointy and she was visibly angry. She snarled at the vampire who looked shocked at what had happened. You worried you might have to step in but then a faerie with butterflies on her cheeks came up to her friend.
They talked in hushed voices and glanced around. You realized that some of the other shadowhunters had also been watching. Some looked more on edge than the others. Some looked upon the scene with dissatisfaction, as if they had been the ones who had blood spilt on them.
You suddenly wished people could mind their own business when you noticed that the green faerie looked quite embarrassed. She glanced upon her dress with disappointment.
It was such a nice dress you noticed. You sighed, feeling bad for the faerie.
“What’s everyone looking at?” A certain warlock whispered in your ear
You turned and noticed that Magnus and Alec were standing beside you. Magnus was trying to look through the crowd but you could tell Alec saw easily over everyone with his height.
Alec whispered in Magnus’ ear and you knew he was telling him.
“What was it stained with?” Magnus asked aloud
“Blood.” You commented
“Oh, dear.” Magnus shook his head and watched as the two faeries wandered out of the big room.
“It was such a beautiful dress too.” You commented
“Alexander, be a dear and hold my bag, would you.” Magnus handed his bag over to Alec without looking, then followed the path the faeries had gone.
Alec, looking confused, quickly followed after his boyfriend, muttering to you a quick “bye”.
You sighed, realizing you were alone. You walked over to the long table with refreshments of all sorts to fit the different appetites of the party's guests.
You grabbed a wooden stick with different fruits on it and looked around the ballroom.
You saw Izzy, wearing a gorgeous skin tight dress that complimented her figure nicely, leading Simon through a dance. If he had still been human you guessed that the dance wouldn’t have come so effortlessly to him as it looked.
“He reminds me of a chicken.” A familiar voice whispered in your ear.
You smiled, pleased, with this newfound presence. “I think they look nice.” You defended your friend.
Jace was wearing nice clothes, you noticed. He was in a black suit that hugged his body quite nicely. For a moment you could only feel jealous of the suit.
Jace shook his head, snapping you out of your thoughts, “No. He’s picking up his feet too much and flailing his arms like a goose.” Jace sighed, “Maybe I should’ve listened to Izzy when she asked me to teach him to dance.”
“You think you can do better?” You asked
He grinned at you, “I know I can do better.”
He grabbed your hand leading you to the floor.
“Do you know the dance?” He asked, setting one hand on your waist and the other in your hand.
“Some parts.” You answered, nervous.
Jace smiled, “Don’t worry, I’ll lead.”
Jace began to move, pulling your body with his. The dance seemed so effortless to him, you were doing your best to keep up.
But you were able to catch onto the dance. You smiled, proud of yourself.
Jace noticed too, “Good girl.” He whispered into your ear.
Before you could react Jace spun you again. You stumbled into his arms. You were quick to notice the stupid smirk on his face.
“If you keep spinning me, you’ll make me fall.” You whispered
Jace only smiled at you, “I’d never let you fall.”
And he spun you again.
“Jace.” You hissed
He hummed with a smirk, “Pay attention to the dance darling or you might trip.”
You rolled your eyes but listened.
His body was warm, his hands rested nicely on your body. Jace's golden eyes were focused solely on you. Only his Shadow hunter training kept him from bumping into the guests nearby.
“Get ready, I’m about to lift you.” Jace said out of nowhere
Your eyes grew wide. Both of Jaces hands went to your hips and raised you into the air. Your hands went to his shoulders, hoping to steady yourself.
When your feet met the ground your feet miraculously went back into the dance. But your breath was shallow.
Jace noticed and slowed, “No more.” He promised you
You nodded, catching your breath.
Jace stopped suddenly, and you stopped with him.
“Come. Let’s go somewhere a bit more private.” He led you to one of the ceiling high doors.
The sky had grown dark, and now the stars were out.
You marveled at their beauty. You stopped when you heard a familiar chuckle.
Jace was leaning against one of the stone walls looking directly at you.
“What?” You asked
“Can you name any of them?” He asked
“What?” You said confused
“The stars. Can you name any of them?” He repeated
You shook your head, “Can you?”
Jace looked up at the sky, “Maybe a couple.”
You smiled, and walked towards him.
The night was beautiful, but also chilly. Your gown, though stunning, didn’t do much to keep you warm. You leaned your head on Jaces chest, testing the waters and seeing what he was comfortable with.
His arms went around your waist pulling you closer.
“Your gown is lovely.” He murmured
You hummed in agreement, “Izzy helped me pick it out.”
Jace nodded in acknowledgment. Jace kissed your forehead and you involuntarily shivered.
“Cold?” You could feel the smile on his lips.
You nodded, “I am.”
Jace tutted, “Well we can’t have that, can we?”
Jace let go of you and stood in the middle of the terrace.
“What are you doing?” You asked
Jace shrugged, “Haven't you heard that if you keep your body moving you’ll stay warm. So we could fight or dance or...something else.” He smirked suggestively
“I choose dancing.” You said walking towards him
He looked disappointed for a moment but he quickly wiped the look off his face as you grew near, “Eager are we?” He teased
You grinned, “Eager not to be cold anymore.”
He huffed out a laugh, taking your hand in his.
At first the dance was fast, then it slowed at the sound of the piano.
You laid your head on Jaces chest when a cold breeze came through.
You could feel Jaces chest rumble as he chuckled.
“Enjoying yourself are you?”
You scoffed, “You’re warm and I’m cold.”
“Perhaps we should head inside?” He suggested
You shook your head, “I like it out here. With you.” You mumbled the last part but you were sure he heard.
The night was still young, but you could feel yourself drifting off to sleep with your head on your lover's chest and the sound of piano being played in the background, as you danced under a starry sky.
