three hours soul-dead into my shift; i would’ve swallowed plaster if it meant i could leave. droning phones—sales script, etc. etc. (who here hasn’t been dehumanized by minimum wage?) my manager came in to send us all home. we’re closing early today because of the coup. the coup? the fucking coup? what fucking coup? born-again-nazis-illusioned-for-justice climbing the walls, apparently. brought ladders and guns, apparently. to washington, apparently. sir, we live in canada?? doesn’t really matter. we close (no, we’re not getting compensated, but it doesn’t really matter because see aforementioned statement re: plaster). at home (thrilled and confused) i find my sister cutting fresh pineapple on the laminate countertop, and take a big bowl as a reward for not eating plaster. i sit on the rug. i prop up my laptop and watch the news from five thousand kilometers away. the president tells his thugs that they’re “special people”. fun times. fun times. around then, swallowing (something i have historically been very good at) becomes as insurmountable as the american capitol building (a-fucking-pparently). pineapple is my forbidden fruit—because that was the day i finally realized i was allergic to pineapple :(

I still have my doubts that Luigi is really The Claims Adjuster, because I simply do not believe the cops at their word, but even if he is really the guy and he is a right-winger, then that means he chose to take all the hatred in his heart and point it against our oppressors instead of lashing out against the marginalized. That's a good thing.

Let's judge him based on what he chose to act on, and may all right wingers follow his example.

some of my favs

We saw some good birds (and lizards tuatara) on our trip to Wellington last week! The Zealandia sanctuary is awesome.

The one I was most excited to see was the shining bronze cuckoo (green on the back, white and brown striped on the front in the photos above). As a child I learned about cuckoos laying their eggs in other birds' nests and leaving another species to raise them - but this is the first time I actually saw it in action! That baby cuckoo was sitting there going beep beep beep while a poor tiny grey warbler dashed around trying to find enough food for her giant son.

I can’t stop thinking about the uhc shooter and what a wild experience he must be having right now. Idk how much you can look at the news or scroll the internet while on the run for murder, but man. Imagine. You spend who knows how long planning a brazen public assassination, cleanly pop a dude in the middle of one of the busiest downtowns in the world, bike away fueled by nothing but the thrill of vengeance and some Starbucks, and spark one of the largest manhunts in recent history. And when you finally go online to see what you’ve wrought, the entire world is laugh reacting NYT headlines and has collectively decided that you’re off the hook this time, king.

Then pictures of your face get released 24 hours later and everyone is like actually this guy did nothing wrong AND he’s hot.
