A clattering in your living room has you blearily shifting awake. The dark of your bedroom takes your eyes longer to adjust to than usual, it feels like. You peer at the time, finding it only just past midnight. Even on the good nights, midnight is pretty early for him to be coming back.Â
Though, thereâs really little concern of the noise-maker being anyone but your boyfriend, heâs set up too many security measures and failsafes around your apartment for anyone to get lucky waltzing in. It does worry you though that he is making such a clamor when heâs usually so careful about entering silently as to not wake you.Â
Youâre about to climb out of bed to investigate when the door creaks open, though light doesnât flood through the crack like youâd expected.
Jason stumbles into the doorway, falling into a lean against the wall for support.
You sit up quickly, instantly on alert. âWhatâs wrong?â
He takes one glance at you and immediately averts his gaze to the floor like he saw something he wasnât supposed to.
You look down, thrown by his behavior, only to see your usual nighttime attire: one of his shirts over underwear.
You blink back up at him, furrowing your brow. âJay?â
You can vaguely make out a sigh from him, âFuckâŠâ he squeezes his eyes shut. âIvy..â
Ah. This has happened before to the others, but this is the first time youâve seen him affected by it. Youâre prepared for it, though you hadnât anticipated that it would be so seemingly debilitating.
âWhat can I do?â You try not to look as concerned as you feel but you canât say with confidence that itâs working.
He slowly pushes himself off the doorframe, heading wearily towards the bathroom. He tugs his shirt off with difficulty, tossing it to the side. âNothing, nothing..I jusâ need toâŠâ he takes a deep breath, âGet it out of my system..â Heâs trying to be comforting but the pain in his voice rids it of all believability.
You frown, watching him linger. âThat seems like the exact kind of thing I could help with.â
His eyes close helplessly as his head falls back, âYou canât, baby.â
âWhy not?â
He sighs, âIâm notâŠas in control as Iâd like to be right now.â
Your pout deepens. This is something youâre working on with himâtrusting both you and himself with vulnerability. Especially when it comes to situations where he feels like heâs putting you in a vulnerable place too. But you trust him with your whole being and you want him to know it. âThatâs okay.â
âNo,â he shakes his head vehemently. âI donât want to hurt you.â
âYou wonât,â you say resolutely. âI trust you.â
He wavers, âNo, IâŠNo. I canât.â
He says that, but heâs still not retreating to the bathroom. Instead, he loiters awkwardly, like heâs caught between decisions.
You feel a twinge of heartache in your chest, âDoes it hurt?â
Heâs quick to answer, âIâm alright.â Though he doesnât try his hardest to sell you on the idea.Â
Your face pans, âThatâs not what I asked.â
âIââ he huffs, conceding. âYeah. Yes.â
You extend your arms out, beckoning him towards you. It clearly goes against his better judgment but he canât help himself from moving closer to you. An evident testament to the strength of Ivyâs work.
You take his hands in yours, looking up at him with begging eyes, âLet me help you? Please?â
Up close like this you can really see how labored his breathing is and how pained he looks. You sit up onto your knees, pulling his hands closer. âI wanna take care of you. Let me help my boy out. He deserves it.â
He steels his jaw, trying to replenish his rapidly weakening resolve. He exhales heavily before grabbing your chin, eyes serious. âLook at me,â he says sternly. âYou stop me if Iâm too rough.â
You nod adamantly, âI will.â
You fidget with the loop of his belt, waiting for permission.Â
He squeezes your hands slowly, head bowing. âHelp me, sweetheart.â
Youâre instantly up on your feet, maneuvering him to switch places with you and sit down on the bed. You kneel down in front of him, undoing the clasp on his belt.
You tug his belt off, letting it clatter on the floor before freeing him the rest of the way. To your surprise, his eyes remain on you rather than your actions. He brushes your hair out of your face haphazardly, murmuring, âPretty fucking girl..â
You keen at his words, fighting the urge to pause and rub up against him. Instead, you busy yourself and lick a line up his cock, immediately feeling his body stutter. You lick another stripe, this time adding a kiss afterwards.
His hands squeeze at the comforter under him, âBaby, please.â
You give a short nod before taking him in your mouth completely. He groans like itâs automatic, body practically vibrating in place. You rest your hands over his and heâs quick to turn his own over to hold onto yours.
It only works as a momentary distraction, as one of his hands leaves your grasp to move your hair from blocking his view again, petting your head nicely as you suck him off. âOh, good girl. My good girl.â
He babbles when he gets overwhelmed during sex, though it doesnât happen often. And especially not like this.
âFuckingââ he stammers, âGod, youâre soââ
Frankly, the image of you on your knees in front of him, so willing and eager to help him outâŠitâs killing him. Heâs putting absolutely all of his remaining restraint into not taking over and fucking your mouth the way he wants toâand it showsâso youâre doing your best to take as much of him in your mouth as you can and using your hand to compensate for the rest.
His head bobs back as his hand falls to a rest atop your head. His breathing is deep and heavy and you can see the way his abs flex through his restraint. His hand briefly fists up before stuttering back to lay open-palmed on your head.
âOh, babyââ he lets out a gravelly moan and his arms nearly give out from holding him up as he comes.
You happily collect it on your tongue and he audibly groans when you swallow.
Heâs quick to pull you up off the floor and place you on the bed so he can clamor over you. You fall back to have your arms hold you up as he finds your lips.Â
âTake your shirt off,â he tells you breathlessly. âPlease.â
You oblige without hesitation as he kisses and gropes along your torso. You donât realize what heâs doing until heâs at face level with your underwear, fingers dipping under the band.
You sit up onto your hands, âJay, you donât have toââ
He shakes his head, ââM not gonna hurt you,â he mumbles, very adamant. âNot doinâ it.â
Itâs been a long running personal requirement for Jason to thoroughly prep you in some way before fucking you, and heâs right for itâyou would definitely get hurt if he didnât.
You feel conflicted about it now though, like itâs not fair of you to let him pay such mind to you when heâs quite literally in unprecedented pain.
But he slips your underwear down without hesitation, not wasting any time in getting to work. He doesnât start with his usual teasing and build-up, instead he goes straight into licking at your core, eyes closed and strands of white hair stuck to his forehead.Â
He hooks one hand around your knee and the other wraps around your thigh, pulling you closer. He used the newfound proximity to lap at you with more concentration and purpose, quite literally devouring you. You struggle to keep your breathing in tune with the rest of your body, not having been prepared for so much so quickly.
Heâs eating you out like itâs the only thing keeping him alive, not giving himself any time to breathe or even think about anything else. Youâre about to push him away so that heâll take a breath or two when he moans into your cunt, instantly veering your brain straight off course.
He breaks from licking your pussy only to change course in favor of sucking on your clit, leaving open-mouthed kisses every few seconds. You thread your fingers through his hair, trying to soothe him as best you can.
This is a new experience for both of you in terms of intensity and desperation and it has you feeling like you were injected with the same toxin he was. It throws you so completely out of your senses that you donât even notice that heâs rutting into the bed as he kisses you. Though, odds are he doesnât realize heâs doing it either.
His grip on you tightens as he gets more fervent, the dig from the indents of his fingers promising to bruise. His eyes flutter as he makes out with your pussy, little mewls making their way through periodically.
âJayââ you cry, tugging harder than youâd meant to on his hair. He hums in response, letting you know that heâs here, heâs with you, heâll take care of you.Â
Even high out of his mind he can still read you like a book, and can tell that youâre nearing your peak. He gets meditated and precise with his actions, leading you right up to the edge. You whimper again and he begins to rut harder.
It takes only a few moments of this repetition for you to briefly tense up before you start to tremble, heat flooding through your body. The saccharine new taste of your cum motivates him to reach his own end, moaning into you and sending a second wave of rapture over you.
You exhale heavily as his forehead drops against your stomach, catching his breath. It doesnât take him very long.Â
You can just start to realize the persistent trembling in your thighs when he licks another stripe down your pussy. You whine, sitting up on your elbows and squirming higher up on the bed.
He pulls back murmuring, âSorry.â He kisses the inside of your thigh, âSorry.â
You watch as he pushes up on his forearms to look at you proper, seeming almost dizzy. âI need..I needâŠâ his shoulders drop. âPlease.â
You just nod, giving him permission to do whatever he needs.Â
He pulls you up by the waist and tugs you into him as close as he can, kissing you hard. You move to hold his jaw in your hands, stroking your thumb across lightly. He leans you backwards to lay you down flat, head just below the pillows. He folds over you easily, kisses becoming less and less intentional in placement as his hands stroke and squeeze up your sides.Â
He pulls away only to glance down as he lines himself up with you, pushing in slowly. He peers back up at your face as he does, watching carefully to make sure it doesnât hurt.
You hold onto his shoulders as you take him, the stretch feeling significant but familiar.
He kisses your cheek once heâs fully inside and begins to rock in and out of you slowly. The pace picks up quickly as he continues to makeout with you.
A particularly intense thrust has you wrapping your arms fully around the frame of his shoulders, hugging him close to you. He immerses himself in the crook of your neck, fucking you with deeper and more punctuated strokes than you can remember.
âJay,â you gasp as he places firm kisses across your jaw like heâs trying to hammer it into your head that he fucking loves you.
His thrusts gradually get faster and while itâs perfectly overwhelming for you, it doesnât seem to be enough for him.Â
He huffs before pulling out of you without warning. He untangles your arms from around him so he can flip you over to lay on your stomach. He pulls you back up just as quickly, arm wrapped around your torso, leaving you to hold yourself up by your hands and knees as he kisses on your neck messily.
This time when he reenters you he continues on with his previous pace, taking you by surprise once again. Your mouth is practically hanging open as he ruts into you, successfully sending your thoughts straight out of your head.
He lays kisses down your spine murmuring, âI love you.â He moves in and out of you without falter, âThank you, thank you..â
His hands hold your waist in place, keeping you steady for both of your sakes. Multiple times his grip tightens only to loosen the second he realizes how hard heâs squeezing you. You donât mind though, youâve never had any trouble revering marks left behind by him before.Â
âItâsââ you pant, âItâs okayââ you reach back to put your hand over his, pressing down.
His brash hold returns upon the permission, more assured. âGood girl, goodââ he praises, âSo fucking good for me, baby.â
He reaches around and dips his free hand below your hips, beginning to rub circles on your clit.
Your arms shake and you worry that theyâre nearing buckling, but, attuned with you as ever, his arm wraps tighter around your middle, pulling you up a bit higher so that you barely have to mind any of the work of holding yourself up.
He makes sure to support your weight nicely, holding you in a way that he knows wonât be uncomfortable for you. His circles never cease, never falter from that just right pace heâs come to know like the back of his hand.
Youâre brought to your high by the arrival of his, struggling to keep your head upright as you come.
He thumps down over to the side to lay on his back, chest heaving. You pick up your head to look over at him, finding that he doesnât look nearly as exhausted as youâre sure you do. Still, he breathes heavy, pupils blown out and sweaty.
You notice how his fists clinch up and loosen a couple times over, trying to convince himself that heâs done, he doesnât need any more from you, heâs all better now.Â
But you also notice that heâs still hard. His eyes are fixed on the ceiling, dead set on not looking at you and having to confront that he really, really does still need you.
So you force yourself to sit up, placing a hand on his chest for balance. He squeezes his eyes shut, trying to relax for your sake but thatâs the last thing you want him to do.
You push yourself up and over his waist, perching over his abs and brushing his hair back from his forehead. You press a kiss to his head before sitting up on your knees and reaching down to line his cock up with your entrance.
You plant a hand on his chest as you sink down onto him with a deep breath.
âYouâre okay,â he rasps, watching in mesmerization as you start to lift your weight up slowly off of your thighs and sink back down.
âIâm okay,â you confirm, guiding his hands to your hips. The presence of his hands on you feels like reassurance and works wonders to help you pick back up some of your energy.
The pace you latch onto feels good, for both of you, but you realize fairly quickly that youâre not going to be able to go as fast as he needs you to.
His hands slip down from your hips to your upper thighs, helping you bob up and down. It doesnât take long for this to give way to him grabbing your hips and moving you entirely himself.
You watch his arm muscles flex as he shifts you around, leaving you awed with the way he shows virtually no struggle while shifting the majority of your body weight up and down over and over again. Just being completely manhandled by him has you letting out an involuntary moan, letting your head fall back.
âThere you go, there you go,â he coos, motions without cessation.
He has you riding him faster than you ever have before and it becomes overwhelming quickly. But Jason, ever the caretaker, coaches you through it, encouraging your every movement.
âThatâs my girl,â he groans, watching the way your breasts bounce. âPerfect fucking thing.â
The acclaim in his voice makes your eyes shut and your diaphragm shake, all while he continues to fuck you senseless.Â
Your body stutters above him, hands flying onto his for support. He comes only moments later, seemingly the only thing that could break his concentration for ragdolling you. The following release of your hips has you slumping over onto his chest, face laying in the bend of his neck.
He turns his head wearily to you, rubbing a hand up your back. ââR you okay?â he slurs out.
You hum feebly, eyes unable to stay open.
âCan IâŠ?â It takes hearing the words for you to realize that somehow heâs still hard.
You try to nod hard enough that it can be distinguished against the heaviness of your breathing, though you canât be sure you were successful.
He sighs, âBabyâŠâ
His hangup is immediately clear to you, even through the haze of being post-three orgasms in less than thirty minutes. It takes real, measurable effort to get this singular word through, but you manage.
âYes,â you breathe out. A âyesâ is going to have to work for him because you donât have a shot at stringing together anymore syllables.
He places a gentle hand on the back of your head, his other landing on your lower back. He slowly starts to fuck you again, this time much softer than before. Itâs calm enough that you can settle into the fatigue in your bones and start to feel the exhaustion sweep over your consciousness.
In between kisses laid sweetly upon your neck, He murmurs affections to you the whole time, though you lose almost all of them to sleep. He moves you around a bit more as he goes, though careful to be gentle enough that he doesnât disturb your peace anymore than he has to.
By the time heâs done heâs bordering on completely out of it and canât do anything but collapse atop you, nuzzling into your neck.
Thereâs a pretty consistent pattern that can be found when helping him deal with post-patrol aftermath. Scarecrowâs never any good, his pop-ups tend to end in winding Jason down from panic. Thereâs always injuries after Bane and invariably thereâll be a mess from Clayface. Half the time he has to get an entirely new suit after a run-in with Killer Croc. So as far as Gothamâs problems go, Poison Ivy isnât the worst.Â

Donate to help my family live
Dear all..
My name is Eman and I am asking for your help to provide the basic necessities of life for my family.
Our household consists of my four wonderful children, my husband, my ailing father and father-in-law.
when we were happy
We lived a relatively stable life in Gaza prior to October 7 th, 2023. Since then, we have been displaced multiple times. We left our home, our belongings, our life and dreams. We finally ended up in a tent after moving in multiple unsafe homes. My children as a result, are suffering from malnutrition, inability to sleep and fear of bombing and explosions all around us.
We are in a continuous state of unrest and it's taking a toll on us physically, mentally and emotionally.
We are in dire need of help to hopefully move out to safety and provide for our family. My father needs a surgical intervention to remove gangrene from his foot and my father-in-law is suffering from severe depression after the death of my mother-in-law. My youngest is anxious and cries all the time. Our world is collapsing and I canât figure out a way out of our situation. This war has changed our life to living a constant nightmare.
We no longer have the minimum necessities of life
No homes, no water, no electricity, nothing left.
Then the office where my husband worked was destroyed. My husband works as a computer engineer. The entire tower, which included many companies and private clinics, was bombed.
We lost many friends, including my husbandâs mother, who died in the war as a result of extreme fear and gangrene in the intestines due to malnutrition. My children are still grieving for their dear grandmother, and now we live in a tent that lacks the lowest standards of living.
Our suffering has been continuing for about seven months, in light of the cold, rain, and lack of winter clothes.
Mostafa crying because of the sound of bombs and explosions.
To communicate directly with me you can follow my account on tik tok eman.salem66
And now, after losing hope in life in Gaza and losing all the basics necessary for a single individualâs life, and fearing for the future of my children, as each one has a dream that he aspires to reach, especially since my eldest son is supposed to start his university life and start shaping his future..
I ask you, hoping that my request will not be rejected, that you help me build our lives and save what is left of us, that we try to create a future for our children after what was destroyed, and that we try to fulfill their small dreams that have become impossible in their view after they saw the destruction of our home and schools, that each one of them complete his studies in school and then move on. To the university, and for each of them to become what he desires, build his future, achieve his dreams, and benefit himself, his family, his community, and his country.
Thank you to everyone who read, shared, and supported.

"Hey! I caught you!"Â
Did he just...? He just said it.
His happy words nearly had me frozen in place. A gleeful joy was written all over him, giggling at me with his arms still loosely wrapped around my waist as he leaned closer. I nearly did the same, clenching the fabric of his shirt tight enough that I thought he would disappear if I let go. Â
He just said the words, didn't he?
Looking into the pitch of his dark eyes, I could feel something 'click' into place in my head. It was a strange, cathartic feeling that washed my fear away in waves. This was it. This was him. But... how?Â
Every slight brush of his skin against me sent tingles down the ridge of my spine, soothing and jittery all at once, the alien feeling of excitement that wasn't my own making my eyes widen. Â
We sat there for a moment just observing each other, though his giggling invaded the silence every few seconds. The apple of his cheek sported a crescent scar, pushed up by his bright smile. Black hair tickled the edges of his ears, covered by a straw hat with a red band, coal eyes still searching for a reply as I sat stunned in between his legs.
I couldn't believe it. It was like the rest of the world faded away in that second, a deep fluttering feeling building in my stomach as I focused on all his features. This felt like everything I had read online and more. My heartbeat thrummed in my chest and ears the more I looked at him.Â
But still, there was no way. It didn't seem real.
As he sat up a little more to get a bit more comfortable, I shakily brought my forearm to my line of sight, and my breath hitched.Â
'Hey, you caught me! -Monkey D. Luffy'
The name had changed.Â
Oh my god, the name changed!
This boy in front of me was my soulmate.
"Luffy, what the hell did you do?!" The shrill voice of a woman came close as she stood behind Luffy and peered down at me, her bright orange hair and brown eyes stern and concerned all at once.
"You better not have hurt this pretty girl, so help meâ" A strong male voice sounded behind us, which meant there must've been more people around. When I turned around to view the other person, I was greeted by somebody else.
"Are you alright? Do you need medical attention?" The owner of the cute voice nearly sent me reeling again, feeling my breath get caught in my throat. Fisting the fabric of the white robe the boy wore in front of me a little tighter, I tried to ground myself and understand what I was seeing. A small reindeer with a blue nose, a pink top-hat with a white 'X' on it, and it was... standing on two legs? Did he just speak?Â
I blinked, glancing every which way, feeling my nerves getting more worked up by all the other odd strangers surrounding me. A man with blonde hair and curly eyebrows, a man with tan skin and a long nose, a man with green hair, and a tall woman with black hair. None of them looked the least bit familiar.
I felt the tears build again on my waterline, and this sent the poor creature in front of me into a panic as a few dripped down my cheeks.
"She's unresponsive! Quick, somebody get me my medicine bag!" As the reindeer ran away in a frenzy, I stayed perplexed, turning to look at my soulmate being clobbered by the young woman as she continued to berate him.
"See, Luffy? I told you to stop doing that, I knew you'd end up hurting somebody!" Luffy, my soulmate, whined and rubbed his head. His other arm stayed wrapped around me, a feeling that left me hyper aware of his touch, and I stared at the two in bewilderment.
"But, she would've been hurt way worse if I hadn't caught her," His teary eyes quickly evaporate when he sees me looking at him again, morphing into a sad look when he sees the newly formed tear trails, a few still falling.
"Hey, you okay? You're safe now, I caught you." He leans closer, concerned, and I nearly topple over trying to back away at the sudden closeness, "Why were you falling out of the sky, anyways?"
My cheeks burn at the proximity, glancing between his face and everything else all at once. Feeling his breath fan over my skin softly, I could've passed away then and there. His gaze was so intense, practically searching my soul.Â
"Luffy, let's not overwhelm her all at once. She just fell from a nasty height, and she's obviously scared. Give her some space." A nasally voice speaks up from behind us as well, and I nearly snapped out of whatever trance I was in. My brain was being slow due to past events of nearly dying, clogged even more by the oddly sudden appearance of my soulmate. Only caught up to the point where Luffy's first words were said, I conjure up a response, still staring at his face:
"Um... yeah, you did," They all quiet down, when I practically whisper the reply to Luffy in a shaky voice, "you caught me, thanks."
Every single person around us chokes on air, the ones I can see all have gaping mouths and wide eyes. Luffy pays them no mind, and I look around at them. Were they disappointed?Â
"Haha, yeah! No problem, anytime!" His smile is cut short by a pondering face, "Wait... why does that sound so familiar?"
I feel the cold flash of fear plummet into my stomach again.Â
And then everyone is yelling at him.Â
He doesn't bother checking the mark, or checking mine for that matter. He was so... nonchalant. Almost like he didn't even realize he had a soulmate mark. Frowning, I feel a surge of disappointment and look back at the mark on my forearm just to be sure I wasn't imagining it. His name was still there, so why wasn't he reacting? Did he not like me or something?
Did he not want me as a soulmate?Â
The thought had my heart aching already.Â
Pushing away from the boy with the white robes, I manage to pry him off of me and ignore the overbearing feeling of wanting to be near him. The soothing tingles disappeared, freeing my mind from the buzzing feeling and letting it clear a little bit.Â
"You idiot!" The redhead is back to pounding him on the skull again, his straw hat flying somewhere as I gulp nervously and wince. Concern started to take over the disappointment; that had to have hurt.
"She's your soulmate! Look at your wrist before I wring your scrawny neck!" Despite the warning, she already was; shaking him rapidly by the neck as he sputtered and choked out apologies.Â
"This guy really gets to have a soulmate and I don't? Seriously?" The nasally voice pipes up.
"Honestly, poor kid." A rough, deep voice that I hadn't heard yet agreed with the group's woes.
I don't get it. Why didn't he acknowledge me at all? And why is everyone looking at me with pity?Â
Standing on shaky legs, I lost balance as the boat tipped, the black haired woman was suddenly at my side to keep me upright; stopping me from being thrown around by the waves jostling the ship.
"Are you all right?" She's incredibly pretty with a silky smooth voice; the type of voice I would like a narration for a book to sleep to. Black hair, light blue eyes, and perfectly tanned skin... She could be a model. I blink before nodding with a small 'yes.'
"I'm Nico Robin, it's nice to meet you." She smiles at me gently, and I feel a slight calm. She seemed a little more normal in comparison to the others I've seen.
"I'm Nami," The red haired girl from before pipes up, smiling at me with her hands still wrapped tightly around Luffy's neck, "And this is our captain, Luffy. You probably already knew his name, though."
Glancing down at the writing on my wrist at the insinuation, I nodded in confirmation. So they did know that Luffy had a soulmate.Â
She smiles again with an 'I figured,' and then goes back to cursing and shaking the teen as he cries at her to stop. A part of me gets a little nervous watching him be strangled, before the next person is walking up to me.
"Try to ignore those two, you get used to it," A man with a long nose, a thin face, and a large bush of black hair beneath his hat approaches; I recognize his voice from earlier, "I'm Captain Usopp! Brave warrior of the seas!"
"And I'm Sanji, please let me know if there's anything you'd like to eat, my lady! You must be starving after being so scared!" A blond with curled eyebrows and hearts in his eyes roughly pushes Usopp out of the way, who yells at him in the process. The blonde ignores Usopp's bickering and continues to gush over 'how beautiful I am,' and 'how I must've dropped from heaven.'
Overwhelmed, I take a step back and bump into someone. Turning around, I'm met with the steel cold gaze of the man with green hair. Although I'm grateful that he's not as overbearing as Sanji, he's very intimidating; silent, with crossed arms and three swords on the holsters at his side.Â
"Zoro." I blink and nod at him with an apology for bumping into him. He shrugs, looking disinterested.Â
"Don't sweat it." A small tug on my shirt brings me away from Zoro.Â
"I'm Tony-Tony Chopper!" I glance down and find the strange, yet oddly adorable, reindeer at my feet who spoke to me earlier.Â
"I'm the ship's doctor! Are you sure you're well enough to stand? You must still be in shock." Comically, another wave jostles the ship, and Zoro places a hand on my shoulder to keep me steady before I fall flat on my face.Â
Glancing around at everyone once again, I notice they're all staring at me; aside from Luffy, who is currently on the floor wheezing, tongue lolling like a dog. Once I realize they're expecting an introduction, I quickly stutter out a response, feeling stupid for not introducing myself sooner when they had already.
"I-I'm (Y/n). (Y/n) (L/n), sorry. I just, um... I'm really confused? Where... Where are we?" The question has them confused this time around.
"You don't know where you are? We're on the Grand Line." I look at Nami, skepticism clear on my face. I've never heard of that before...
"The Grand Line? Is that somewhere near New York?" They're all silent, not having a clue on what that place is. It's obvious with the delivery of their blank stares.
"New York City? You... You don't know it?" The prospect has me nearly panicking again. Where the hell am I? How did I get here?
"I've never heard of it. Sorry," The redhead looked bashful when she finally interrupted the silence, "Maybe it's a place we haven't been to yet?"
"I-It's a city. A big one, with tons of cars and subway systems. There's a lot of people, too," I stop to think a bit more on any other details, "it's always busy. Also nicknamed 'the city that never sleeps?'"
"Cars?" Usopp whispers to Nami, not understanding what I'm saying.
"Subway systems?" Sanji mutters to himself, also confused. I look at all of them hurriedly, feeling my hope diminish with each pitiful stare.
"Uh, no. Sorry kid, can't say I've heard of it." The green haired man, Zoro speaks up this time after a long, drawn out silence.Â
I feel the dread pile up in my chest. All of them look at me like I've grown another head, except for Robin, who's pondering to herself with a hand on her chin.
"That's-- It can't be. It's not possible..." She whispers to herself, eyes wide. She looks as if she's made a breakthrough, and I feel myself perk up a bit. The rest of the crew looks at her now, curious.
"What's not possible?" Usopp chimes.
"The only time I've ever heard of that area is from a book," She starts, "It's very short, with not much evidence, but it mentions the odd happenings of travelers from the past who all claimed they come from other worlds. Very few have existed, and they were all hundreds of years apart, so there was no definitive study... But, I'm certain that's the only time I've heard of the city you mentioned."
"Wait, so you mean..." Usopp begins, and Nami finishes for him.
"You're from another world?!" Nami is suddenly loud and in my face, gripping my shoulders in amazement. I feel sick to my stomach, feeling the blood drain from my face.
"That's right. There was an anonymous man years ago who said he was from the city of New York, located on a large continent called The United States. There was a devil fruit user that once backed his claims, but there's no record of the names of either person; only lost articles in the writings of their crew." Robin, now looking at my unstable posture in Nami's hands, takes one look at my pale face and seems to confirm it in her head.
"You listed some of the same descriptions that he did, which means you must be from that area, am I correct?" I swallow the lump in my throat. Mind reeling about a mile a minute, I nod shakily.
"S-So... that means... I'm..."
Not home anymore.
"Yes," Robin agrees. "You're nowhere near where you used to live. My guess is that you were transported here because your soulmate was in this place while you weren't; though, there's not a lot of evidence to back that theory since, like I mentioned, this specific ordeal doesn't happen often in history."
"R-Right," I lose feeling in my legs, "Th-That makes sense, I guess. O-Okay."
Nami and Robin gently rest me against a wall of the ship, where I feel like I could faint. Resting my head in my hands, I suppress the need to hyperventilate. It's not possible, that's never been possible. Sure, there are disappearances where I'm from, but people from another world? Is it possible? It's never been documented. Not once. Not ever.
"H-Hey, Um..." Nami is kneeling in front of me, hands on her legs like she's apologizing for something. She looks both sorry and nervous, like I would explode into tears depending on what she said. Then again, I couldn't promise that I wouldn't.
"At least you've found Luffy, right? That has to count for something."
I blinked languidly at her, before turning to look at my newfound soulmate. He was sitting up, rubbing his neck and coughing from Nami's rough treatment. The more I focused on him, the more I could feel a pain in my own neck as well. Despite that, the familiar prickle of goosebumps serves to soothe me a bit.
"Yeah... I guess you're right," I nodded, before looking back at Nami, "I was looking for him before I... came here, so it works out. I-In a weird way."
She looks at me pitifully, I distract myself from her with the little clip-clopping of footsteps coming my way. Chopper comes waddling up at my side with a stethoscope and a medical kit, without a word he takes my wrist in his little hooves and checks my pulse, but I can hear him mumbling under his breath nervously.
"Hey, weird girl," I perk up at the sound of Luffy's grainy voice from his spot, frowning in distaste at the slightly offensive name, "How'd you get here, anyways?"
A beat of a moment, and then everyone is yelling at him again.
"You idiot! We just talked about that!"
"Don't call her 'weird,' she's your soulmate, you little shit!"Â
"Were you even listening?!"
"Nope." He deadpans, and I furrow my eyebrows. He wasn't even listening? Why wasn't he as honed in on me as I was to him? He didn't even seem like he was drawn to my presence, when I haven't been able to take my eyes off of him.Â
Trying to give him the benefit of the doubt, I gulped down the thought that maybe he really didn't want me. If we were soulmates, that wouldn't be possible; it shouldn't be possible.Â
"W-Well, like I said, I was looking for you," I pointed at him, "and in the process I was leaning against the railing of a bridge it broke... So, um. I fell, and right as I was going to hit the water... I was falling out of the sky here. I think."
"But..." Luffy looks completely confused. "Why were you looking for me?"
Another eruption of noise, and I scrunch my eyebrows again, biting my lip and trying not to cry. Did he seriously not know? Had he not realized by now?Â
Oh, god. Maybe he really didn't care.Â
"Whatever," Furrowing his brow, he gets up and plops himself down on the floor next to me, staring intently at my face as he rests his own in his hands. He looked like a little kid waiting for someone to give him a treat.Â
"I don't get why, but it felt really good holding you." Slowly, I feel my face start to burn, embarrassed that he would say something out loud in front of the people around us, who were all facepalming at his strange antics. Covering my own face with my cold hands, I try to soothe the hot feeling of my skin and calm all my raging emotions at the same time. He was so confused, but maybe he was just confused at the situation. I hoped so.Â
"Wait, did I do something?" He sounds flustered and nervous before I hear him shuffle closer, "You just make me feel all weird and tingly. I like it!"
"Do you... not know why? Why you feel that way, I mean..." My soft voice seems to catch him off guard as I peek at him over my fingers, he's almost as close as when we first saw each other, looking as if he was searching for a gap to see my face.Â
"Mm-mm. Should I?" He shakes his head, messy hair falling over his eyes. I can tell he's telling the truth, and I'm not sure if I should feel satisfied or conflicted. I hesitate before speaking again.
"Well, you have a tattoo, right?" He nods, before bringing out his arm and pointing at it. Scrawled there are my first words, followed by my name. It feels surreal to find it on his skin.Â
"Yeah it's right hereâ Wait, it changed! Who's (Y/n)?" I'm stunned. So he doesn't know. Maybe he wasn't raised to know about having a soulmate?
"You're so stupid! Don't you remember anything?" More bickering from the crew mates who seem flabbergasted by his actions.
"You're the one who told us about her in the first place!" A spark of disbelief causes my heart to skip a beat. So he did know, he just forgot? But, is that a good thing or a bad thing?Â
"That's her!" Sanji points towards me, "Right there, she's your soulmate, remember?!"
"Who?" His response sparks outrage, and I shake my head a little, feeling disheartened again. But, it's better to clear up the confusion now, before feeling worse about it later... right?Â
Still, so much for searching for my soulmate. He hasn't even been looking for me all this time.
"You're Luffy, right?" I ask him quietly.
"Yeah, that's me! How'd you know?" I nod lightly and show him my own arm.
"Look, your name is on my wrist; and my name," I point at my name on his wrist, "is on yours."
"See?" After a long drawn out 'ohh,' he's all smiles again.
"So, that means you're my soulmate! I get it!" He's a laughing mess, before he grabs my wrist and looks at the words while my cheeks light up again. The rest of the team are sitting, slack jawed, amazed at this girl who was able to clear up his confusion in a few sentences.Â
"That's why you're so cute!" He giggles waving my arm around like it's some sort of toy. My whole face turns bright red, but I'm still left feeling a bit bittersweet. The initial buzz of our first meeting was dulled now that I had learned the differences in our situations.
"No wonder you're his soulmate." Zoro pipes up with a scoff.
"I've never seen anyone tame that boy without hitting him or bribing him. That's pretty impressive." Usopp crosses his arms and nods at me with respect.
"Sh-She's an angel!" Sanji screeches from behind them all.
Chapter Two (coming soon)
another WIP?!
for the record, this is what it feels like when you like and reblog us, small artists
Summary: Your pack is back home, but things aren't quite as good as you try to make them seem. Some truths get revealed, while others remain in the dark.
Pairings: Poly 141 x reader
Word Count: 9,337 words
Warnings: Alpha/Beta/Omega dynamics, Alternate Universe, a/b/o typical classism and sexism, angst, PTSD, flashbacks, nightmares, '09 Ghost's backstory, mentioned abuse/child abuse, still pretty heavy emotionally, language, finally some of the comfort after the hurt, plenty of fluff
A/N: This stupid fic making me cry again. I may have lied about this one not being quite as heavy as the others...it's still pretty heavy, but there are some sweet moments in there too. There is a bit of a time jump in the middle, it's roughly a week long or so. Not much, but it does cut ahead a bit just for the sake of plot and moving things along. Also yeah, I got it done earlier than expected.
MASTERLIST | <- Previous | Next ->
Youâre warm. Sweat has begun to form in the creases of your body. Youâre wrapped around something solid, something contributing to the intense warmth. The smell of leather and eucalyptus fills your nose as you nuzzle your face against soft fabric. It sends a shiver down your spine despite the heat, your eyes fluttering open. Youâre staring at a blurry mass of black fabric, your brain beginning to catch up as you become more and more aware.Â
Leather. Eucalyptus. Something distinctly alpha.Â
Fuck.Â
Youâre spooning Ghost.Â
He has to be asleep, otherwise he would never let you get so close to him. He would have shoved you off, pushed you back towards Johnny, who youâve traded places with in the middle of the night. You must have gotten too hot sandwiched between the two betas and tried to escape somewhere cooler. That led to you spooning with Ghost, not that heâs much cooler than the betas.Â
You can get away before he wakes up, remove yourself from his personal space before he realizes and forces you away. Avoid the shame and embarrassment of his rejection, his anger at you for crossing that boundary, even just in your sleep. Despite the fact you know that boundary is there, despite the fact you did it unintentionally, youâre not sure you could handle such a rejection right now, even from him.Â
You slowly begin to withdraw your arm from around his middle, sliding it back towards your body. If you go slow enough, you should be able to untangle yourself from around him without waking him and avoid a confrontation.Â
A quiet gasp is pulled from your lips as his hand wraps around your wrist, keeping you from moving.Â
âDonât.â He says quietly.Â
Your heart is thudding in your chest as he tugs your arm back around him, keeping you where you are. Your exhale is shaky as you slowly relax, pressing your face against his back again. Youâre not sure what to do. You were expecting him to push you away, get up in disgust and leave because you got too close, you pushed past the barrier he had placed around himself when it came to you. A barrier that got let down only while youâre training, then itâs put right back up as soon as youâre finished. Now here you are, spooning him after sleeping in the same room, the same nest.Â
You wouldnât have taken him for being a little spoon type.Â
Your eyes begin to droop again as you lay there, breathing in Ghostâs scent. Itâs like a comforting blanket, lulling you into a sense of relaxation, of safety, something you havenât felt in days. For the first time your mind is quiet, not panicking about what happened, or what could happen. You donât have to worry about your pack now, because theyâre here with you again.Â
You drift off to sleep again for a while, sleeping soundly in the cocoon of safety your pack has provided for you.Â
You wake a while later, sticky with sweat. Your back is pressed against Ghostâs, and thereâs something draped across your face. You push it away, blinking your eyes open. Johnny has starfished across the nest on his back, his mouth open as he snores. Heâs stolen your bear, one arm holding it against his chest, and the other arm had been what was draped across your face. Kyle is curled up on his other side, having moved from the middle to the far side of the nest. John is missing, making your brows furrow.Â
You push yourself up to sit, the air in the room almost like a sauna. You rub your eyes, trying to blink away the sleepiness. That might have been the best sleep youâve gotten since your heat. It was likely the exhaustion taking its toll, paired with your brain finally being able to relax while surrounded by your pack.
You feel like you could lay down and sleep for another ten hours.Â
Youâre warm, though, sweat causing your clothes to stick to your skin. The blankets have all been kicked to the end of the mattresses, likely ditched early on in the night. You wiggle out of your sweatpants, kicking them off the end of the mattress as well, leaving you in a baggy shirt that you think is Johnnyâs.Â
You feel suddenly exposed sitting there, your eyes flicking around the room as a chill runs down your spine. John would have noticed if something was out of place, but he could have just brushed it off as you in his room. He had given you permission to be in his space while he was gone, if you needed to. One of them would have noticed if things were out of place in their rooms. Ghost would likely notice, since you havenât been in his room at all.Â
You lay back down on your back, staring up at the vent on the ceiling. The cover is in place, and no matter how hard you look, you canât see a camera hiding in the gaps. It doesnât ease your worry any as you stare up at it, wishing you had your phone so you could at least try to look for one. Though, perhaps it was better you didnât have your phone with you. You hadnât been brave enough to pop it open and look for anything strange hidden inside, though you wouldnât even know where to begin to look, or what to look for.Â
You should tell them. What if someone is watching you right now?Â
You flinch as John appears in the doorway suddenly, five water bottles tucked against his chest. Your skin is crawling from the thought of someone watching, someone listening in on such a private moment with you and your pack. You hadnât even thought about it last night, the stress and your fear had taken over your mind. You push yourself back up to sit as John passes Ghost a water bottle, handing one to you as well. You unscrew the cap as John places the other bottles on his desk. Johnny and Kyle still asleep, unaware of the world.Â
Unaware of the danger.Â
A cold shiver slips down your spine as you gulp down the water. What if someone had entered the barracks last night? You werenât in your room, and the door wasnât locked. Anyone could have just walked in and put up cameras again easily.Â
One of the guys would have heard someone snooping around, right? You were so out of it you likely would have slept through one of them getting up. What if they were also so exhausted from their deployment they could have slept through someone breaching their space as well. Did Ghost lock the door last night? You canât remember.Â
âAlright, sweetheart?âÂ
Your head snaps up to where John is leaning against his desk. His brows are slightly furrowed as he stares at you, and you realize youâve been projecting your scent. With them gone, you didn't have to worry as much. You could stink up a room without a care. It just meant more protection for you. Now that theyâre back, though, you have to be more careful. You canât just go panicking over nothing, not that you should have to panic while theyâre here.Â
Thatâs their job, right? Protect the omega?Â
They canât protect you if they donât know thereâs a threat in the first place.Â
âYeah.â You say, gulping down more water to think up an excuse quickly. âThought I might be dreaming for a moment, that you didn't really come back.âÂ
John approaches you slowly, kneeling down on the end of the mattress with a quiet sigh. He has to be sore after their deployment. You can tell just by the way heâs holding his shoulders, by the stiffness in the way he moves. You canât even begin to imagine the kinds of things they did, the kinds of things they went through over the last week.Â
John takes your hand, pressing it against his chest. Heâs warm underneath the shirt, and you can feel the steady beating of his heart under your palm. âWeâre real.â He says, his thumb gently stroking the back of your hand as he holds it against his chest. âWeâre really here.âÂ
You stare at his hand where it covers yours. Youâve seen it before, many times. Scarred and rough with calluses. His knuckles are dry and just slightly bruised. Did he punch someone? Or maybe he hit it against something else.Â
His hand moves, snapping you out of your thoughts. You fight the urge to flinch as he cups your cheek, his thumb brushing your skin. âYouâre thinking too much.âÂ
You swallow thickly. âWell, I didnât have much to do this last week besides think.âÂ
A smile tugs at the corner of his lips. âWeâll try to make life more interesting for you, then.â He leans forward, pressing a kiss to your forehead. âNow, letâs get these two muppets up for breakfast.âÂ
He pushes himself back up to stand, staring down at Johnny and Kyle, still sleeping. You shift onto your hands and knees, crawling over to Johnny before swinging a leg over to straddle his stomach. You lean forward, planting your hands on either side of his face, his breath catching as he begins to wake up, sensing a disturbance. You stare down at him, watching his eyes flutter before they crack open. The haze of sleep leaves his blue eyes, clarity coming back to him quickly as his lips begin to lift in a grin as he stares up at you.Â
âDidnae expect tae wake up to such a sight.â He says, voice thick with sleep as his hands come to rest on your bare thighs. âA beautiful woman on top of me? I mustâve died and gone tae heaven in my sleep.âÂ
âEven better,â You say, leaning down closer. âBecause Iâm real.âÂ
âThat ye are.â He says, slowly dragging his hands up your legs, pushing the shirt up as he goes.Â
Ghost pushes himself off the mattress, leaving the room so quickly he nearly knocks his shoulder against the doorframe. A frown pulls at your brows as you watch him go, slowly pushing yourself back up to sit on Johnnyâs stomach. Guilt starts to well up in you as you stare at the empty doorway. You hadnât meant to make him uncomfortable.Â
âDonât mind him, kitten.â Johnny says, pushing himself up to sit, sliding you backwards into his lap. âHeâs still miffed he didnât get a greetinâ yesterday.âÂ
âOh,â You say, blinking in surprise. You hadnât even thought about greeting Ghost in that moment. You had been so desperate for your alpha, and then swept up by the betas, it hadnât even crossed your mind to acknowledge Ghost. âI didnât-âÂ
âItâs not yer fault.â Johnny says, wrapping his arms around you. âHe hasnae been the most...open with ye. Itâs his own damn fault for it.âÂ
âOh, well, Iâll be sure to give him a big hug when he comes back in.â You say.Â
âPlease do.â Kyle says, rubbing his eyes where heâs laying next to you. âIâll pay to see his reaction.âÂ
All three of you burst out laughing, Johnny pressing his forehead against yours. âMissed ye, kitten.âÂ
âNot as much as I missed you.â You say, pouting.Â
Johnny chuckles, pressing a quick kiss to your lips. His hands slide to your hips as he presses another soft kiss to your lips, and then another.Â
âLet me get in on some of that.â Kyle says, pushing himself up to sit. He grips your chin in his hand, turning your face to his before pressing his lips to yours.Â
His kiss takes your breath away, deeper and more passionate than Johnnyâs had been. You hum against his lips as Johnnyâs grip on your waist tightens.Â
âChrist almighty.â Johnny breathes, staring at you and Kyle as you kiss.Â
âAlright, you three.â John says as the air in the room starts to turn musky with arousal. âLetâs feed our omega first before we get too carried away.âÂ
Kyle pulls away from you, pressing a quick kiss to your forehead.Â
âCan we...eat in here again?â You ask, wrapping an arm around Johnnyâs shoulders as you turn slightly to look up at John. You had almost forgotten about his presence, caught up in the attention from your betas. The thought of him watching the three of you has a different kind of thrill racing down your spine.Â
âOf course.â John says, bending down to kiss you.Â
Both Johnny and Kyle groan at the sight of their pack alpha kissing you, Johnnyâs cock twitching in his boxers beneath you. You press a kiss to Johnnyâs cheek after John pulls away from you before pushing yourself up to stand. You stretch your arms over your head, the shirt riding up a bit, giving both Kyle and Johnny a good view of your legs. The musky scent of arousal intensifies in the air as they stare at you, Johnny licking his lips hungrily.Â
âAlright, get out of here you cheeky little minx, otherwise theyâll never get out of bed.â John says, gently guiding you from the room.Â
You canât help the smile that tugs at your lips as you leave Johnâs room, stepping out into the hallway. Itâs much cooler outside of the room, goosebumps forming on your legs. You have half a mind to go back to your own room, but you find yourself unable to even approach the door. Memories of the fear and your panic come flooding back, the thought that someone might have snuck inside, someone might be waiting for you in there snapping to the front of your mind. Itâs a ridiculous thought. Someone would have noticed if there was an intruder, if there was someone who shouldnât be inside creeping around.Â
Your gaze flickers from your door as Ghost makes his way down the hallway, his clothes changed from what heâd been wearing to sleep in. You bite your lip as you stare at him, meeting his gaze. Perhaps it's the fear driving you forward, or maybe youâve gone slightly crazy in their absence, but you find yourself approaching him, making him stop in his tracks.Â
He eyes you as you approach, your steps quick as you try to avoid chickening out. Your mind is repeating Johnnyâs words over and over in your head, an explanation for Ghostâs behavior yesterday, and obvious annoyance at you and Johnny this morning. You wonder if heâll take it as a threat as you get closer to him, if he might snap and defend himself. Heâs completely still, not even his chest moving. Heâs watching you like a predator watches its prey, waiting for your next move.Â
Itâs like hugging a tree as you wrap your arms around his waist. Heâs stiffer than a board as you hug him, resting your face on his chest. Leather and eucalyptus and musk all float around you as you press close to him, his scent enveloping you in a hug, even if his body doesnât follow suit.Â
âWhat are you doing?â He asks, his voice rumbling deep in his chest.Â
âHugging you.â You say, tightening your hold around him. Youâve been this close to him before in your training, but this feels different. âIâm sorry for not greeting you on the tarmac. I wasnât really thinking clearly at that point.âÂ
He lets out a quiet sigh, something you probably wouldnât have noticed if you werenât so close to him. You can imagine itâs a sigh of exasperation at Johnny for spilling about his feelings. âItâs fine.â He says, awkwardly patting your back. âDonât know why you would have wanted to.âÂ
âWell, you are part of the pack.â You say. âThat should be enough reason.âÂ
You nuzzle your face against his chest, his scent going straight to the back of your brain. Your omega wants to roll in it, cover herself in it until itâs all you can smell. The intensity of his scent has something in your hindbrain purring, the sound rumbling through your chest.Â
Ghost puts his hands on your shoulders, pushing you back from him. You blink up at him blearily as your mind begins to clear a bit with the distance. âAt least put some pants on before you completely lose it.â He grumbles.Â
A small smile tugs at your lips before it falls at the thought of having to go into your room. You turn to face the door, your vision almost tunneling as you stare at it. You donât want to open it. You donât want to go in there.Â
âGhost?â You say quietly before he can walk away.Â
He turns to look at you, his eyes squinting just slightly as he frowns. âWhat?âÂ
âWill you...will you open my door for me?â You shift your weight, knowing heâs going to want a reason, an explanation for your behavior.Â
He turns fully to face you, shoulders squared as he slowly approaches, suddenly on the defensive. âWhat is it?âÂ
You shake your head. âJust a feeling.âÂ
He steps between you and the door, wrapping his fingers around the handle before he swings it open, scanning the inside. His shoulders relax just slightly and you let out a breath of air. Thereâs no one inside. No oneâs waiting for you. No one broke in last night.Â
He takes a step back before turning to you. âNothing.âÂ
You let out a sigh of relief, staring into the space that was once your nest, your safe place. You can feel Ghostâs eyes on you, waiting for an explanation for your behavior. You canât tell him the truth, despite how easy it would be. You could confess right now, admit to what happened, what you did, the mistake you made. You could drop to your knees right now, beg for forgiveness for what you did.Â
âIt was hard...while everyone was gone.â You say. Itâs not a lie. Not entirely. âMade me uneasy, being alone here. Kept thinking I was hearing things.âÂ
He doesnât believe you. You can see it in his eyes. He knows your lying, he knows youâre withholding the truth from him. You arenât, you just arenât giving him the whole truth. You had felt lonely, you had been on edge even before General Shepherd arrived and your room was bugged. Being alone was hard. Harder than you thought it would be. It would have taken its toll on you, even without the stress of your space being invaded multiple times.Â
You should have told someone. You should have called Dr. Keller right away. You should have never opened the door in the first place.Â
âThank you.â You say, slipping past him and entering your room.Â
He stands there for a few breaths, watching you warily as you open your closet, looking for something to wear. You ignore him, acting like heâs not there, but you canât hide the squaring of your shoulders, the stiffness of your movements. Youâre not sure you could resist if he pressed, if he tried to force you to tell him. Youâd spill immediately, even without him using his alpha against you.Â
The thought has another chill racing down your spine.Â
Your omega is on edge as you change with the door open, not caring as the guys move around, getting dressed to head out to grab breakfast for everyone. You hate how inconvenient it must be, but you still donât think you could handle being in the mess. Not yet. Not so soon. Youâll have to eventually, otherwise theyâll think something is up, happened, and then theyâll start questioning.Â
You couldnât handle an interrogation. Especially not their disappointed and angry faces when you confess to what you did, the mistakes you made, how you allowed someone to walk in so easily. How you left so easily with a stranger. Theyâd never trust you again.Â
They wonât trust you if you keep things from them either.Â
They have to know. They have to know General Shepherd came to base and talked to you. They have to know about you meeting their superior while they were away. A high ranking General couldnât just be on base without someone knowing, and why would he hide it? He had come to check in on your progress and how you were settling in with your pack. He would have included your pack in that questioning as well, right? Besides, there has to be cameras everywhere on base. Someone would have seen you and let them know.Â
Thereâs no way they donât know about it.Â
You stand in the doorway of your bathroom, staring at the cabinet where the broken cameras and recording devices are hidden. Theyâre broken, you ensured that. Theyâre hidden away, buried under enough stuff no one could find them unless they were purposefully looking for something.Â
You let out a breath, trying to relax as you finish your morning routine. Itâs over. Thereâs nothing that can be done now. All you can do is try to move on, try to mend the fraying bonds with your pack, heal the sense of fear and unease surrounding your safe space.Â
Maybe Dr. Keller could help. You could admit everything to her, everything that happened while she was supposed to be watching you. If you had just gone to her office that afternoon, perhaps things would have been different. She would have known, but that wouldnât have stopped the cameras from being put up. It would have just made it easier for them. Maybe they might have finished the job properly, and you wouldnât have even known. Even if you had called Dr. Keller, what kind of argument could she have made against a Commanding Officer?Â
If you told Dr. Keller now, sheâd tell your pack. Sheâs promised to keep everything between you confidential, but would something like this be an exception? Would she tell your pack anyway because she thinks itâs the best course of action to help you?Â
You want to cry. Tears are welling in your eyes as you stare in the mirror. You hardly recognize yourself. You look tired, strung out, sickly almost. Are you not, though? Is that not how you feel? You know omegas can get sick from stress sometimes, if it gets to be too much. You donât want to get sick. You donât want to be more of a burden than youâre already being. They have to be so tired after their assignment, and here you are making things harder for them.Â
âYou alright, love?âÂ
You jump, letting out a shriek as you whip around to face the door of your room. Your heart is racing as you slap a hand over your mouth, staring wide-eyed at an equally surprised Kyle. You let out a breath, slowly lowering your trembling hand as you try to calm yourself. Itâs just Kyle sneaking up on you. Not a stranger.Â
âSorry, didnât mean to startle you.â He says, brows pinching in a frown.Â
ââS okay.â You murmur, turning off the light before leaving the bathroom. âWas lost in thought.âÂ
âThe others left to grab food.â Kyle says. âTheyâll be back shortly.âÂ
You nod, trying hard not to make your trembling too visible, or give any hint at your discomfort. âOkay.âÂ
You stare at him as he leans against the doorframe. He hasnât entered your room. Heâs still standing in the doorway. The thought has a lump forming in your throat. Your bonds have frayed so much he doesnât even feel comfortable entering your space anymore. Thereâs a wall up again, and youâre only forcing it higher and higher.Â
âCome on.â He says, holding his hand out to you. âLetâs go to the rec room.âÂ
You take his offered hand, letting him pull you from your room. The door clicks closed behind you as you let him lead you down the hallway and away from the place thatâs become fuel for your nightmares.Â
Kyle sits down on the couch, pulling you down on his lap. You wrap your arm around his neck as he wraps his arms around you, enveloping you in his warmth and scent.Â
âIâm sorry for startling you.â He says softly, bringing your other hand to his lips so he can press a kiss to your wrist.Â
âItâs not your fault.â You say, leaning your head against his shoulder. âBeen on edge since everyone left.âÂ
âI bet.â Kyle leans his cheek against the top of your head. âWeâre here now. Weâre gonna fix that.âÂ
âWhat happens when you have to leave again?â You ask.Â
âYou wonât be alone again, thatâs for sure.â A different voice says.Â
You nearly jump out of Kyleâs lap as John appears in the doorway of the rec room, Johnny and Ghost right behind him. Kyleâs arms are the only thing keeping you steady as your heart nearly beats out of your chest. Youâre not sure how much more you can take, intentionally or unintentionally.Â
âI spoke with Kate this morning.â John says as he sets the food heâs carrying on the coffee table. âWeâre going to do everything in our power to avoid having you left alone again. At least one of us will be staying behind with you from now on.âÂ
Your brows pinch a little. Is that why he had been absent from the nest earlier? Youâre not quite sure what to feel. On one hand youâre relieved at the thought of not having to be alone again, but on the other hand, you donât want to disrupt their lives, their jobs. You wonder just how hard he had to fight to even get Kate to agree to something like this.Â
You also feel a bit afraid that they know, they figured out what had happened and thatâs the reason they donât trust to leave you alone again. Youâll make another stupid mistake or another risky decision that might cause you actual harm next time.Â
Kyle eases you off his lap and onto the couch beside him. Johnny sits on your other side, squishing you between them as a tray is passed into your hands. You donât feel very hungry as you stare down at the food, but you know after a meager dinner last night, you need to eat. You wonât be doing you or your pack any favors by being hungry.Â
Itâs quiet in the rec room as you eat. Itâs almost eerie how silent it is, aside from the occasional scrape of silverware on the trays. You begin to float back into the time when they were gone, the haunting silence that had settled over the barracks in their absence. Everything had seemed so still, not peaceful, but more like the very walls were holding their breath.Â
Perhaps it was in anticipation for what was to come. Perhaps somehow the very walls knew they would be beached, the safety they once promised would be upended.Â
Or maybe youâve just gone crazy.Â
You shift forward on the couch, careful not to tip your tray over as you grab the remote from the coffee table, turning the TV on.Â
âFinally! I couldnae handle the silence much longer.â Johnny exclaims, letting out a relieved sigh.Â
The corners of your lips pull up in a smile as you pass the remote off to him, letting him search for something bearable to watch on early morning TV. Youâre glad at least you werenât alone in your distaste for the silence. You curl up closer to Gaz, reminding yourself that itâs not a dream, that they really are here. They really did come back.Â
Now you just have to move on and put the nightmare of what happened behind you.Â
As the days pass, things begin to return to normal. The guys start their normal routine of training and running drills almost immediately. To avoid being stuck in the barracks alone, you ask to go with them, blaming it on the distance and your need to be clingy still. At first you were afraid someone would take advantage of the barracks being empty again, but every search has come up empty handed. No more cameras, no more recording devices.Â
Whoever it was who planted them must have given up, or perhaps the risk of doing it with the entire pack back on base was too high.Â
Despite this fact, you spend the least amount of time in your room as possible. Even when you canât go to watch them train or run drills, you spend your time in Johnâs room, or in the rec room. At night you rotate between John, Kyle, and Johnny, opting to sleep with them over spending a night alone in your room.Â
As you discussed, you begin seeing Dr. Keller twice a week. Youâre not quite sure what she told John to convince him it was necessary, but whatever it was, it hadnât given away any of your secrets. It probably hadnât taken much to convince him to say yes, given your current state and his worry about you.Â
You know heâs worried. You can see it when he looks at you, like you might snap if he stares too hard. Youâve seen the way his hands twitch when Johnny holds you too tightly or gets too rough in his affection, like heâs worried you might shatter.
Itâs reassuring to see the distance has not just affected you. Johnny holds you tighter than he used to, Kyle stands closer to you like heâs trying to fuse you both into one. Even Ghost has started hovering closer, using his hands to steer you and guide you when youâre around others that arenât part of your pack.Â
Youâve started eating in the mess again, knowing you can only avoid it for so long before theyâll start getting suspicious and asking questions. You still feel paranoid, being around the other soldiers on base. You canât help but be suspicious that it was one of them that planted the cameras, that it was one of them that tried to get into your room that night. Who would willingly breach such sacred ground and invade an omegaâs space like that, you couldnât even begin to guess. Â
Sure, some of them still stare at you, but most of them now ignore your existence. Youâre no longer a spectacle, not after a few weeks on base, not that youâre a claimed omega now.Â
That wonât stop some alphas.Â
Going up against your pack, though? That would take one hell of a cocksure alpha.Â
Just like the one that invaded your safe space.Â
It had to have been an alpha. Sure, that beta soldier had entered the barracks, but to go so far as to put up cameras and try to come back and get into your room? That takes a special kind of audacity, something only an alpha could possess.Â
So life has gone back to normal, or at least as normal as it can be after what happened.Â
The return to normal hasnât all been good, though. Your nightmares have returned, coming on quickly as soon as you began to settle into routine again. The real nightmare has passed, so now your mind has to plague itself with nightmares that have already happened. Things that canât even hurt you anymore.Â
You start avoiding sleep again, despite your work with Dr. Keller, too afraid to risk having a nightmare in front of one of them again. The last thing you need is to have to spill about your nightmare. You might not be able to stop and wind up spilling about what happened while they were gone too.Â
Unfortunately, things donât work that way. They never work that way for you.Â
Someone is screaming. Your body feels like itâs being constricted by a snake, crushing and painful as youâre clutched desperately against your motherâs chest. Sheâs the one thatâs screaming, the sound hurting your ears. Your face is pressed against her shoulder, into the softness of her sweater. Itâs the pink one, the one she made. Her favorite.Â
Thereâs knocking coming from somewhere, a door handle jiggling. Itâs locked, but you can hear someone trying to get in, multiple people based on the voices from the other side. You donât know who it is. You donât recognize any of them. You canât even make out what it is their saying, if theyâre saying anything at all. The voices sound more like the unintelligible roar of monsters, the ones you used to be afraid of as a child.Â
Everything is muted by the blood pulsing in your ears, drowning out everything but the jiggling of the door handle. Someoneâs trying to break in. Someone is breaking in. You can make out the thuds against the door, the desperate attempts to get inside, to get to you.Â
The arms around you tighten, pressing your face harder into the soft yarn of the sweater. You inhale the familiar scent of brown sugar and vanilla, the scent surrounding you and enveloping you in a sense of safety. Nothing can get you. Nothing can hurt you.Â
Thatâs not true, though. You know itâs not.Â
Thereâs a bang as the door is finally forced open, the screaming getting louder as footsteps enter the room. Youâre shaking, trembling in your motherâs arms as she clings to you desperately, just like you used to cling to her when you thought there was a monster under your bed.Â
The monsters were real, you realize as you desperately cling to your mother, just as tightly as sheâs clinging to you.Â
Hands grab at you, claws digging into your skin, tentacles wrapping around your body, trying to pull you from your motherâs grip. You can hear her pleading, begging, screaming at them not to take you, not to separate you. Youâll never see her again if they manage to pull you from her. Theyâll take you away, hide you away, keep you from the warm comfort of her embrace.Â
You let out a scream of your own as youâre yanked from her grasp, your arms reaching for her as the monsters pull you from the source of your safety and comfort. The last thing you see is your motherâs grief stricken face before the door slams in your face.Â
A scream tears from your lips as youâre pulled from sleep suddenly. Youâre falling, hitting the tile floor with a thud. Your shoulder cracks against the unforgiving floor, making you yelp. The blanket has tangled around your legs, rendering you immobile from the waist down.Â
The frantic pounding of boots on the floor meets your ears, seconds before the four members of your pack are sprinting into the rec room. Their faces look just as frantic as their steps had been, concern laced with fear laced with worry. You hadnât even realized theyâd returned already. They had been at their afternoon drills while you stayed in the rec room watching TV, slowly succumbing to the exhaustion thatâs been plaguing you.Â
âWhat is it? What happened?â Kyle asks, moving to step forward but John beats him to it.Â
âFell off the couch.â You say, pushing yourself up to sit, wincing at the pain in your shoulder. Thereâs tears sliding down your cheeks despite you fighting the remnants of your terror and pain from the nightmare.Â
âI think thereâs more to it than that.â John says, kneeling down in front of you.Â
You want to confess everything. How you havenât been sleeping well for weeks now since your heat, how you keep having horrible nightmares about your past, what happened while they were away, how the nightmares have returned. Your breath catches in your throat as you stare at John, the tears sliding down your cheeks as you give up trying to control them. Guilt plagues you as you stare at the worried face of your alpha. He just wants to help you, he just wants to take care of you, but he canât if youâre keeping things from him, if youâre lying to his face.Â
âI had a nightmare.â You say quietly, your voice barely above a whisper. You clutch your arm to your chest, trying not to move your shoulder too much.Â
John lets out a quiet sigh, his fingers lifting to press against your shoulder, feeling around the joint. You wince as he hits a tender spot, the pain sharp, but not horrible. Youâve certainly felt worse things.Â
He turns to the others behind him, all of them staring at you with equally worried looks on their faces. âGet me an ice pack.â He says before turning back to you.Â
He lifts you off the floor, placing you back on the couch before untangling the blanket from around your legs. Johnny grabs an ice pack as Kyle moves to sit next to you on the couch, draping his arm across the back, projecting his scent to try and help you relax. John sits on the edge of the coffee table, staring at you. Despite the worry still present on his face, his eyes are sharp. You canât help but feel like youâre suddenly in an interrogation. Theyâve done this before, probably many times, though likely not as gently as they are now. Youâre terrified still at the way they shift so easily into the mindset of a soldier. You canât even imagine what it would be like if they were serious in their interrogation of you.Â
âHow long have you been having nightmares?â John asks as Johnny takes a seat on the other side of you, passing you the ice pack.Â
You press it against your shoulder, trying to keep your thoughts straight. You have to try not to spill anything, try not to confess to all of your sins, all of your stupid mistakes now. Your gaze drops to your lap, avoiding the looks of the two alphas staring at you. Ghost has moved to stand behind John, his arms crossed as he watches the exchange. You can feel the pressure of their gaze, the sharpness of it digging into your skin like knives.Â
âA couple weeks.â You admit, unable to even think of a lie. You donât want to lie now, not with them staring at you so intensely. Theyâd know. Theyâd be able to tell before the words even left your mouth. âSince my heat ended.âÂ
âIs that why youâve been avoiding sleeping?â John asks.Â
You wince at his question. Of course he noticed. Why wouldnât he? Heâs been trained to notice weaknesses in others, gauge the capabilities of his men. Of course heâd notice youâre more tired than usual, not sleeping quite as much. He probably even knew all the times you woke up in the night when you slept next to him. Â
You nod, still staring at your lap, too afraid to see the disappointment in his eyes.Â
âWhy didnât you say anything?â He breathes, almost sounding upset.Â
Youâve made a mistake in keeping this a secret. You regret it as soon as you hear the emotion in his voice. He thinks you donât trust them, he thinks you donât trust your alpha. You need to tell him. You need to tell him everything, but the fear keeps you paralyzed. How much more upset will he be when you confess that you kept such a major event from him, from all of them?Â
A quiet sob leaves your lips as you sit there, terrified of the reprimanding youâre sure to get. The shame burns hot in you, the reminder that youâve disappointed them. Youâve let them down and now they wonât even trust you to tell them anything.Â
âWeâre not mad at you, sweetheart.â Gaz says, shifting his arm so itâs wrapped around your shoulders, his thumb brushing the hand thatâs holding the ice pack to your shoulder. Johnny shifts just slightly closer to you, both of the betas projecting their scent around you, trying to cocoon you in their comforting presence.Â
âI just want to know why you felt it necessary to hide something like that from us.â John says, his voice softer than it had been before.Â
âI didnât want to bother you.â You find the words spilling out before you can stop them. Maybe itâs the exhaustion or the fear or your brain finally getting tired of holding everything in. This is your moment to let out a little steam, to finally release some of the pressure thatâs been building. âMy nightmares are nothing compared to the ones you all probably have and itâs stupid and I shouldnât even be having them, itâs been years since the last time I dreamed like this, and I donât even know why theyâve come back now.âÂ
âNo nightmares are stupid.â Ghost says, stepping up closer to the coffee table.Â
âWeâre here to help you.â John says, leaning his elbows on his knees. âWe canât do that if you donât tell us whatâs going on.âÂ
Guilt burns through you at his words. Heâs right. You should be honest with them, tell them everything. They canât help you, they canât keep you safe even from the things that plague your mind if they donât know about them.Â
âWhat are the dreams about?â John asks, blue eyes boring holes into you.Â
You feel small under his gaze, like you're a child again, facing down your father after doing something wrong, after making a mistake. You have made a mistake, though. Youâre facing the consequences of your mistake right now.Â
âThe day I left for the institute.â You say quietly, voice hardly more than a whisper but you know they heard you in the silence of the barracks. It feels threatening, like the walls are silently vowing to tell the truth if you donât.Â
Your pack shifts a bit at your words, sharing looks amongst themselves. They have to know what itâs like, or at least heard stories about the trauma of being pulled from your pack to be taken to a strange place, surrounded by others just like you.Â
âWhat happened that day?â Ghost asks, staring down at you.Â
You can feel his gaze piercing into you, screaming the silent threat that youâre going to tell them, no matter how long they have to sit here and wait. You donât have a choice anymore. You have to tell them.Â
Youâre warm. The ice pack pressed against your forehead does little to soothe the burning under your skin. Youâre thirsty, the two empty plastic bottles on your nightstand were not enough to ease the dryness in your mouth.Â
Hands shift the ice pack, pressing it against your cheek. Your mother is there, seated next to your bed diligently. Sheâs crying, tears sliding down her cheeks, quiet sniffles breaking the silence in the house.Â
âIâm sorry.â She whispers, bringing your hand to her lips. âIâm so sorry,â She apologizes, as if itâs her fault, as if she brought this onto you.Â
She gasps quietly as the door opens, her back stiffening as your father enters. His face is stern, mouth almost twisted with disgust as he stares at you. It feels wrong, having him invade your space. If youâd had the energy, perhaps you would have been brave enough to protest his presence.Â
âCome on.â His voice is gruff, worn down from years of smoking and yelling. âGet up.âÂ
âNo, please-â Your mother attempts to reason with him, but he wonât have it.Â
âShut up and sit down.â He snaps at her, and she has no choice but to sit back and be silent. His voice has something tingling in the back of your neck, almost like a warning. Thereâs nothing you can do, though. Youâre far too weak.Â
He moves to the side of your bed, grabbing your arm and pulling you up from the comfort of your blankets. The ice pack falls from your head, your skin prickling with warmth almost like it hadnât been there in the first place. Your brain is sluggish as you try to comprehend whatâs happening, your legs giving out as youâre forced upright. You canât get your body to work, you canât even force yourself to behave. You want to crawl back under your blankets and lay there for the rest of eternity.Â
You whine as youâre dragged from your room, knees knocking on the floor as you attempt to get your feet under you to ease the pain in your shoulder. Your father drags you into the living room, two people you donât recognize standing next to the front door.Â
âPlease, please donât do this!â Your mother pleads with him, right on his heels as he drops you in a heap in front of them. He catches her before she can rush forward to you. How you wish you could have her arms around you again, holding you and comforting you in your confusion.Â
âEnough.â Your father snaps at her, looking down at you with disgust. âSheâs no daughter of mine.âÂ
You blink up at him, the words seering through the haze, registering in your foggy mind. Tears gather in your eyes as you stare up at your parents, your siblings watching tensely from the living room as the scene unfolds before them.Â
âNo, no!â You cry as hands close around your arms, lifting you from the floor. âMama!â You scream, trying to fight them as youâre pulled from your home, your safe space, your family, your pack.Â
Your mother is yelling, fighting against your fatherâs hold around her, but itâs useless. Heâs stronger. He wants this, so no one is going to stop him. Sheâll pay later for her actions, her disagreement with him. You wonât be here to see it, though. Youâre leaving and you wonât be coming back.Â
The last thing you see as the cool air outside washes over your feverish skin is your motherâs grief stricken face before the door closes, locking you out forever.Â
Youâre dragged into the back of a van parked in the driveway. Two men in uniform climb in behind you before the doors are slammed shut. You curl up in the corner, sobbing uncontrollably. You want your mom, you want to be back in the safety of her arms, the warmth and comforting softness that only she can provide.Â
One of the men approaches you, a needle in his hand. You whimper in fear, pressing further back into the corner as he gets closer to you. He forces you down onto your stomach, the pain brief as he injects you with the sedative before he moves back to take his seat. You curl up in a ball, quietly sobbing as the drugs begin to work, your vision going hazy before youâre forced into unconsciousness.Â
âI woke up hours later at the institute.â You say, wiping at the tears streaming down your cheeks, but it does little against the cascade of tears falling from your eyes. âNever saw or spoke to my family again. They didnât even try to reach me, and I know my dad was the reason why. He hated me as soon as I presented.âÂ
âFucking hell.â Ghost breathes, hands curled into fists at his sides. You can smell the intensity of his scent above everything, the burning ozone of anger rolling off of him. It makes you wince, even though you know itâs not directed at you.Â
âThatâs why he wanted to send you so quickly.â Kyle says, his arm tightening around you.Â
âHow did he get you into FIOT so soon after your presentation?â John asks.Â
You shrug your good shoulder. âI donât know. I didnât even know heâd be sending me, much less so soon until it was happening.âÂ
âChrist,â Johnny breathes, gently taking your hand in his. âNo wonder yer havinâ nightmares, kitten.âÂ
âI havenât had this nightmare since I arrived at the institute. They started there, lasted a few weeks while I adjusted to being there.â You sniffle. âHavenât had them since, until now. Dr. Keller says itâs because I finally feel safe enough to process the trauma of it happening.âÂ
John sits up a little straighter. âIs that why she suggested seeing you multiple times a week?âÂ
You nod. âWeâre working on it. I asked her not to tell you, because I did plan on telling you eventually.âÂ
âIâm glad you told someone, at least,â He says. âAnd Iâm glad you finally told us too. We might not be able to stop the nightmares, but at least now we can help support you in whatever way you need.âÂ
âIâm sorry I didnât tell you sooner.â You say, squeezing Johnnyâs hand slightly. He was the only one that knew you were having nightmares, but you hadnât even confessed to him what was going on out of fear heâd tell the others.Â
âItâs alright, sweet girl.â John says, leaning forward to press a kiss to your forehead. âIâm glad it finally came out and now we can help you.â He wipes the tears from your cheeks, his thumb brushing your skin gently.Â
The moment is broken as your stomach growls impatiently. Itâs past your normal dinner time, your confession having kept you longer than you thought it would. You hadnât gotten in your afternoon snack either, your body having chosen to nap instead.Â
A small smile tugs at Johnâs lips. âHungry, love?âÂ
You nod. âYeah. Didnât get my snack.âÂ
âWeâll go get some food and bring it here, how does that sound?â He asks.Â
You nod. âYeah. That sounds good.âÂ
He pushes himself up to stand, his knees cracking as he does. You fight the urge to say something, squeezing Johnnyâs hand tightly.Â
âIâll stay.â Ghost says, still looking at you.Â
John looks down at you and you meet Ghostâs gaze for a moment before nodding. John presses another kiss to your head, Johnny and Kyle pressing kisses to your cheeks before they get up, leaving the rec room to get dinner for everyone.Â
Ghost moves from his spot on the other side of the coffee table, sinking down at the end of the couch. You fight the urge to stare at him in surprise. Youâre not sure youâve seen him sit anywhere but in the chair the entire time youâve been here.Â
Itâs silent between the two of you for a few moments, aside from the occasional sniffle from you. You wipe the remaining tears from your face, removing the melted ice pack from your shoulder, tossing it on the coffee table. This feels very familiar to you, this position. Youâve been here before, back when you punched the asshole alpha who insulted you.Â
âMy dad was a real asshole.âÂ
You turn your head slightly in surprise when Ghost breakâs the silence suddenly. Heâs not looking at you, his gaze distant, far away. You know that look well. Youâve seen it on him before, and also on a few omegas at the institute. Youâre sure itâs graced your face as well many times.Â
âHe was a trad alpha, real piece of shit who couldnât control his anger. Took it out on all of us. My mum, my brother, me.â He scoffs. âMum took the brunt of it, but Tommy and I faced our fair share of it too. He used to bring dangerous animals home and taunted us with them. Made me kiss a snake once. He did all kinds of horrible things to us.â His voice softens a bit in a way youâve never heard before. Youâve never seen him so vulnerable, not even when he told you about his own nightmares. âIâve never wanted an omega, because of the things my dad did to my mum. I never wanted a pack either, but...maybe something deep down in me did because I said yes to this whole experiment.âÂ
The silence hangs heavy between you for a moment. Youâre not sure what to say, or if you can even manage to say anything in response to what heâs just told you. You had no idea what his life was like growing up, except that he was also a purebred.Â
âI was always too afraid the cycle would continue, that Iâd turn out to be another piece of shit, just like my dad.â He says.Â
âI donât think youâre a piece of shit.â You say, your voice cracking a bit.Â
He huffs out a breath. âThanks.â He stares down at the coffee table, leaning his elbows on his knees. âDid your dad ever hit you?âÂ
You shake your head. âNever directly. He got rough sometimes, grabbing us, squeezing too hard, yanking us around. He never stopped my brothers when they got too rough, though. They liked to wrestle, and I wanted to join because I wanted to spend time with my cooler older brothers. Sometimes theyâd forget I was smaller than them and I got hurt a couple times. He never reprimanded them when it happened. I think he enjoyed it more than anything. He mostly just yelled a lot.âÂ
âTrad alphas only speak the language of yelling and violence.â He says. âIf my father wasnât screaming at us, his fists were getting the message across. Sometimes heâd do both at the same time.â Ghost shakes his head. âReal pieces of shit, trad alphas. Makes me sick, the kinds of things they believe in.âÂ
âIâm sorry about what happened to you.â You say, fishing for anything to follow up his confession with. Nothing feels right, nothing feels like enough.Â
He shrugs. âIt happened. Itâs in the past. He died a few years ago. Left nothing but a stain behind.âÂ
âWhat happened to your mom and brother?â You ask.Â
âTommy got into drugs for a while, but he cleaned up and got married. Mum lives with him now. Still doing well.â He says.Â
Youâre surprised by his words. Youâve always heard that omegas donât last long without their alphas. But what if their alpha was an asshole? Is the relief of their death enough to scrub out the grief of losing your alpha?Â
You stare at the side of Ghostâs head, your heart thudding in your chest. You feel sorry for him, but at the same time, youâre grateful he shared this with you. You have much more in common than you thought you did with the giant aloof alpha. Maybe, perhaps, this can be a way for the two of you to grow closer, maybe you finally have common ground that you can share with him to get him to open up to you more. You know he wants it. The revelation of his disappointment at your lack of greeting, and the fact he let you hug him is enough to tell you he wants something more with you. It might never breach the realm of romance or even a casual fling, but you canât deny the bond is there. You can feel it, the tugging in your chest as you look at him, the butterflies in your stomach when he puts a hand on your back to steer you through the crowd in the mess.Â
You want him to want you. You want him to open up, to peel the layers back and bare his very soul to you. Heâs already started. This confession is the beginning of that kind of bond between you. That he trusts you enough to tell you this makes something flutter in your chest.Â
If only he knew you were keeping something worse from him.Â
You could tell him. Confess to him right here, right now. Spill it all in this sort of mock confessional, this mock therapy session between you. Heâll be mad, but perhaps after everything thatâs transpired today, heâll be lenient. Youâre not sure you could say the same about John, though.Â
âGhost, I-â You start but he cuts you off.Â
âSimon.âÂ
âWhat?â You breathe, blinking in shock as he turns to face you.Â
âMy name. Itâs Simon.âÂ

a/n : HAPPY BIRTHDAY KATSUKI KATSUKI DAY GRAAAAAHHH-
and so, finally bakugouâs big 18th birthday party had arrived.
and you could absolutely not be more nervous.
youâd barely slept a wink, too giddy but also terrified as you kept on thinking about everything that could happen that you lost track of time. you'd checked and rechecked to see if the gifts you'd prepared where ready, checked with your classmates to see if all the decorations in gym gamma where still okay and checked the fridge five times to see if it was still intact aka if kaminari or mineta hadn't gotten their grubby little hands on it. tokoyami had told you not to âlet the chains of anxiety shackle thy restless soulâ, which you think meant you didnât need worry yourself too much. you didn't quite get it at the time but you were thankful nonetheless.
youâre in bed now. nervous, sure. but you canât help excitedly kicking your feet nonetheless. you were so excited to see katsukiâs reaction to the surprise and to your gifts, of course.
you check your notifications one last time, smile at your homescreen picture of you and your boyfriend, and turn on your side to finally go to sleep.
the day goes by with no hiccups. despite your friends wishing katsuki a happy birthday, with him grumbling in a sort of appreciation, he didnât seem like heâd caught on. and he hadnât noticed the sneaky mischievous glances you sent your friends every once in a while, everything was going off with a hitch.
youâd, of course, waken up extra early to be sure you were the very first person to send him a happy birthday message, getting ready at lightning speed to greet him at the door with a warm hug and plenty of kisses. which he reciprocated after quickly getting over his stupor.
the day had gone well, but now it was time for the surprise. and while you gather up the last finishing touches and finish bringing the food, operation : extrate the payload was a go.
kirishima had been tasked to go retrieve katsuki and drag him over to the gym, claiming he wanted to try a brand new move and knowing katsuki you knew there was little to no chance heâd pass up training. but just in case, youâd encouraged kirishima to egg your boyfriend on a bit, that usually gets him going and you smirk proudly at your phone when you get a text from the red head himself.
âhe took the bait ! the payload is on the way >:)â
and there you have it.
âalright guys, payloadâs on the way !â you exclaim. your classmates start taking action, there arenât many places to hide in the gym even with all of the changes youâd all made, but everyone had managed to find a pretty good hiding spot. some, like kaminari following others because they had nowhere else to hide and exchanging whispered complaints of âwhyâd you follow me ?!â and âow, donât step on my feet !â you giggle at how much your friends treat this like a game of hide and seek rather than a big surprise, before bounding away to find a hiding spot for yourself near the entrance.
it's so quiet you can hear a pin drop. denki clear his throat and yelps immediately afterwards, you assume someone mustâve punished him for the noise and you almost snort. until you hear voices approaching.
you recognize the loudest one clear as day. your heart starts racing when you hear the door open and kirishima and katsuki sounding impossibly close. katsukiâs complaining, as usual and it should be about time forâ
âletâs hurry this up shitty hair, got other shit to do later.â you hear your boyfriend grumble.
âyeah, yeah i got it man.â kirishima replies âiâve been working on this move for a looong while, so i think youâll definitely be in for a treat.â
the trigger word.
âwhyâd you put so much emphasis on theââ
âSURPRIIIIISEEEE!!!â
bakugouâs next words get caught in his throat and he makes a little spluttering noise when all of his classmates pop out from almost every single crevice, nook and cranny in the room. his eyes are wide as saucers and his stance screams heâs on high alert, ready to fight, only to be met with his entire class screaming at him.
he stays frozen in his spot, eyebrows twitching and you all silently wait for him to react until denki shouts âkacchanâs shut down, guys !â in an instant time restarts its course and while you all burst out laughing katsuki splutters again.
âshut the fuck up dunce face !!â he shouts, but it doesnât hit the same as it usually would, heâs just a bit quieter âw-what the hell is all this ?!â
âobviously itâs a surprise party.â sero sasses with a smirk, mina rubs it in by adding a snarky âduuuh !â
kirishima takes pity on his friend and places a hand on his shoulder comfortingly "we knew your birthday was comin' up, so we wanted to throw you a birthday party !"
"and actually keep it a secret this time.." kaminari snickered not so quietly. him, and the majority of the class side eyeing todoroki and mineta, the smaller boy immediately spluttering out excuses while the other only tilted his head in question.
katsuki's flabbergasted expression has settled just the smallest bit, his eyes shoot over to you and you offer him a sweet smile "18th birthday's are special, y'know ? they should be celebrated with class." you joke. the redhead next to your boyfriend nods aggressively fast. you feel a hand on your shoulder and turn to see kaminari again. you snort when he opens his mouth to speak againâdoes that guy ever stop talking ?
"i helped plan everything." he smirks, leaning against your shoulder and nodding proudly. only to wince when jirou materializes behind him, accompanied with a fist to his head. "we all did, idiot."
"hey, don't go taking all the glory for yourself !" mina chimes in a little further in the crowd, shoji places a hand on her shoulder in support.
you can't stop your lips from forming into a silly smile at your friends antics, and you giggle when katsuki only rolls his eyes, trying to hold back one of his own.
"you guys are idiots..complete fuckin' morons.." he mutters under his breath, shaking his head and rubbing at his nape almost shyly. he looks up at the red head next to him, then at the rest of his class with the faintest of pink on his cheeks, hand still pressed awkwardly on his nape like he doesn't know where to put it.
"i-i appreciate you guys..or whatever..thanks."
a beat passes. and then squeals resonates throughout the room.
"AAAWWWWâ" kaminari and mina both squeal.
"aww man, you're blushing !" kirishima laughs, his cheeks also tinted pink.
"S-SHUT THE FUCK UP. NO I'M NOTâyer seein' things, you fuckin' weirdo.." katsuki spits, but his embarrassment and appreciation refrains him from insulting his smiling friend too agressively.
"aaand he's back.." sero quips, causing absolute choas filled with laughs and screams..the screams coming more from your boyfriend but you digress.
you're all smiles, this couldn't have gone any better for you and you feel a little silly for feeling emotional. katsuki's absolutely not the first person others would call sweet, but him actually putting in the effort and putting his feelings into words make your heart grow more than three sizes.
"alright, enough with the mushy stuff. let's party an' eat cake !" kaminari, always being the life of the party, exclaims. you're thankful that he's so aware and always able to set everything back on course so naturally, you almost envy him for it. you and your classmates excitedly cheer. between the cheers you lock eyes with katsuki, who was already looking at you. you smile at him brightly because you really can't help it and you feel your heart beat and dance around in your chest when he offers you a handsome smile in return. not his usual boastful one, the one only reserved for you. the one that makes your heart beat intensely, but more sweetly and makes it melt like liquid honey.
this is the best.
you're a few hours ( and a lot of slices of cake) later into the evening, when you lean against the wall to take a breather. you're cheeks hurt with how hard you've been laughing and you sigh happily, the noise being drowned out by the loud speakers booming as you take a sip of your favorite drink.
"yo." you turn to see sero right next to you, "hey !" you chirp loudly, trying to get him to hear you over the music. he smiles easily at you, taking a sip from his drink before he continues
"looks like blasty's havin' fun." he chuckled, pointing his cup to where your boyfriend had been dragged into an impromptu conga line. you burst out laughing, pulling out your phone to record. and while you're recording he notices and glares right at you, you offer him a taunting little wave and cheer him on. and his narrowed eyes need no words as his hands tighten on deku's shoulders in front of him. the green haired boy's eyes widen in surprise as his mouth open in surprise.
"you're gonna pay for that." you chortle.
"looks like this party was a succes, huh ?" sero utters softly, going to take another sip before leaning his red cup over to you. you laugh with a shake of your head.
"yep !" you agree, knocking your cup against his.
a warm hand wraps around your wrist. you don't know if you ever stopped smiling since the beginning of the evening, but you smile wider when his warmth practically engulfes you, his chest pressed to your back as he pulls you against it. you look up at him to see him trying to supress a smile, not well, but he's trying. "finally caught you." katsuki growls.
"you havin' fun ?" you sing. he scoffs "bein' dragged around playing limbo with those fuckin' cheaters ? yeah, plenty." the words come out bitterly at the memory of kaminari 'setting him up' during your game of limbo, competitive as always. you laugh at his sarcastic remark.
"i think you looked real handsome during the conga line," you sigh sweetly to sell the act, "so dreamy.." his words get caught in his throat and he pokes at your stomach in punishment to make you squirm around, then he's reaching to grab your hips shuffles around in your pockets while you try to keep him away. "i saw you recording me, freak ! gimme the phone."
"no !"
"give it !"
"leave me be, it's a m-momento for your 18th birthday !" you wheeze, giggling and shrieking as he takes his chance to tickle you. you hear him chuckle into your ear and he finally relents. "m'getting to that phone while you're asleep." you fake gasp in shock, wrapping your arms around yourself.
"you wouldn't !"
"don't test me." he snarks, throwing you a teasing grin. however, his expression morphs into a soft one, he shoves his hands into his black baggy jean pockets.
"heard you planned all this, huh ?" your eyes widen.
"no, no we all did."
"but it was your idea." he insists, and cuts you off before you can continue "don't bother, kirishima already told me." as thankful as you were for his help, you cursed kirishima in your head for throwing you to the explosive wolf like this. it's not like you were angry, but you really couldn't have done all of this on your own and it was definitely a team effort.
"well, i mean..yeah.." you admitted shyly, fumbling around with your hands. it's silent, then he chuckles at your humbleness and you're slowly, agonizingly slow at that, being backed up against the nearest wall. and his forehead maes contact with yours, you're tucked away into a corner of the gym where the rest can't see you, he places his arms against the wall next to your head.
your eyes dart from his to the floor "i just thought..it could be fun, you know..? m'sorry for lying to you about the bookstore.." you spilled, trying your best to stutter out an apology, until he stops you, raising your head up with his finger.
"you're really somethin' else, you know that ?" he smirks softly " i knew you were planning somethin', you were being too secretive. hanging out with my mom and shit, sneaky brat."
"i like hanging out with your mom !" you defending the older woman has your boyfriend roll his eyes "should like hanging out with your boyfriend first." he quips. you roll your eyes as well, but it doesn't take you long to burst into a fit of laughter and he follows quickly. your chest feels warm, tucked away giggling in this small corner of the bustling party, just you and katsuki.
"i have something i wanna show you." katsuki raises a brow at your sudden words. "oh, yeah ?" you nod. "but it's in my room." you offer him your hand shyly, and he smiles softly, huffing through his nose. grabbing your hand as you pull him out of the gym and walking silently into the night back towards the dorms.
"hey.." katsuki starts, you hum. "uhm, y'knowâfuck.." he fumbles with his words and pulls you along when you stop walking to listen to him, wanting to continue so you wouldn't notice his embarrassed state too hard.
"thanks for this." your eyes widen and it's like he sensed you were about to speak because he interrupts you "yeah, yeah i know you all did." he mimicks your words, squeezing your hand in his warm one "but you thought it all up, so..thanks." he glances down at you " when i said i appreciated it, i really did. i really do."
your heart thump, thump, thumps against your chest, you feel it hammer in your ear. your hand squeezes his and he squeezes a second time. you don't know what you can say, so you smile at him. it's late at night and tiredness has finally started kicking in now that the music fades further and further away, but you're so, so happy and you think he can see it too. his smile slightly dimmer but still there and it makes you feel so warm and loved despite the slight chill of the outside. you wish you could see him smiling like this all the time with all your heart. and you hope he'll like your gifts and all of a sudden your at the entrance of the dorms. you make your way to your room in comfortable silence. your hand getting slightly clammy in his when you finally reach your floor and make your way to your room.
"what did you wanna show me ?" bakugou asks, closing your door behind you. you sit down on your bed and pat the spot next to you. he questions it with a raise of his brow, but doesn't any further and sits down next to you. you inhale, and reach underneath your bed to grab the gift and hand it over to him. his eyes widen, he narrows his eyes at you when your lips curl into a bashful smile.
"yn."
"i know.."
"i told you not to get me anything, stupid." he utters breathlessly, placing his hand onto your head and noogieing you. you reach up to stop him with a whine.
"i knooow !" you moaned "but just open it, please ?" you give him your best puppy eyes. he scoffs but finally relents. grabbing the thin box from your hands. he shakes it softly and you make a noise, reaching for his wrists.
"katsuki !" you giggle "don't shake it !"
"m'just trynna hear what it is."
"then open it !"
finally, he opens his the box. his eyes widen and he places it down on the bed to get a better look at the book you'd made for him. you perk up nervously when he inspects it thoroughly, running his fingers over the stickers you'd stuck to the front.
"i-it's a recipe book, see ? i know you love to cook so i figured you could add all of your favorite recipes in it." he flips the book open while you explain away, skimming over the pages " you can detach the rings too, so if you wanna add pages you canâ"
before you know it you're interrupted and practically slammed onto your bed, a pair of warm bulky arms incasing you into your boyfriends chest. you shriek, but it melts into a giggle when he kisses all around your cheeks and nose softly, causing a ticklish sensation and when he lands a particularly wet kiss against your eyelid you laugh.
after moving his recipe booklet to your nightstand to keep it intact, he places you further onto your bed to kiss you again, obnoxiously loud at that, and you try to kiss back to the best of your ability but constantly huffing through your nose and smiling. he leans up to give you a break from his love attack, only for you to be hit dead on with all the love in his eyes.
"i'm gonna assume you're happy with your gift.. ?" he rolls his eyes at your joke, nudging his nose with yours.
"yeah, happy doesn't even begin to cut it. thanks, babe." he simpers, his eyes are bright and you make sure to commit his expression to memory. he leans down again, promptly kissing you deeply, you let yourself get carried away by his love and affection, kissing him back passionately but you remember your last gift for him.
"mm, there'sâ" he hums, continuing his flurry of kisses "there's something tapedâ" one more kiss cuts you off "âon the last page of your book, suki." one last loud peck and he pulls away to stare at you incredulously, you never stop surprising him, do you ?
he quickly retrieves it from your nightstand, and if his eyes widened before they practically bulge out of their sockets at the little holographic card neatly taped in his book. he carefully removes the tape and lifts up the card, looks at you, and looks back at the card in shock causing you to giggle.
"i remember how bummed you were after your card got all messed up during the war, so..." you're heart squeezes at the horrific memories of what had happened those few years ago, and how upset your katsuki had been when the card he'd kept close to his heart since he was a kid ended up crumpled up and bloody. he still has it, hidden in a box under his bed, but he never got to bring it to all might to get it signed. so you decided to do it for him and after racing neighborhood kids to get as many packets as you could get your hands on and a few packet of cards, you'd finally pulled it. you knew what you needed to do and the bewildered look in his eye was most definitely worth it.
"holy fuck..holy shit." he insists "how did you evenâiâwhat ??" you burst out laughing at his disbelief, he could be so cute when he wanted to be.
"i just asked mr. all might if he wanted to, and he happily agreed, by the way." you answer simply with a shrug. however your smile fades just a bit when his eyes turn glossy.
"hey.." you crooned. quickly he shoves his head into his shoulder, furiously wiping at his eyes. he sniffles and grabs your wrist. you think he's about to pull you towards him only for him to crash against your chest again. you let out a 'oof !' sound, chuckling breathlessly. you don't say a word as you feel his arms wrap around you tighter, his face and hands heating up against you and the collar of your shirt growing wet. you don't mind, running your fingers through his hair until he's ready to speak again.
"yer gonna be the end of my, woman." his voice is just a little scratchy and he clears his throat, you giggle.
"this..i know i'm not the best at all this emotional stuff butâm'real thankful y'know.." he rambles against your neck, you nod "mhm." you urge.
"a-an' this is honestly more than i could ever ask for. ever." he looks up just enough to make sure you see his slightly red eyes "this is the best gift ever given me. you're the best gift ever given to me, and i dunno what i did to deserve you, but i'm definitely not taken it for granted" he half jokes. you feel your whole body heat up and your eyes burn just a bit at the sincerety of his words.
"i love you, katsu. s'the least i can do." you sniffle. he leans up to kiss you almost immediately. it's soft and sweet and so perfect. it's just passionate and slow enough where you can practically feel the love he's trying to give to you, you know what he's trying to tell you without him even having to speak, because you love him and he loves you.
"i love you." he responds against your lips, you love him and he loves you, and you kiss him again. you hope he can feel how much you love him and how happy you are he enjoyed himself at his surprise birthday party. you hope you can keep seeing him smile like he did tonight and enjoy himself and his cake every year. you hope you can try every single recipe he adds to his recipe book and see the way his eyes light up at his signed holographic all might card every single year.
bakugou pulls away to look at you with all the love in the world and he thinks that any birthday he has in the future will be more than perfect if he can have you by his side for as long as he lives, every year.

âË. âą you make a gift for katsuki's 18th birthday.
-`â day one of the explosive birthday celebration ! âÂŽ-
It's the week of Bakugo's 18th birthday - you and all of class A have plenty of plans arranged to make it special for him! You know he's going to feign ignorance, like he doesn't care about all of the love and support, but deep down is a sucker for it. Midoriya and Kirishima had all of the party supplies ready to go, stored secretly in their dorm rooms. Sato bought all the ingredients he'd need to make snacks and a cake for the party while the girls stashed away a bunch of party favors, splitting up everything between their rooms. Everyone was ready to celebrate their favorite explosive hero!
There's was just one thing left for you to do - find him a present.
What exactly did Bakugo want? He never vocalized desiring anything material in nature, not even All Might memorabilia. Getting him a gift card felt a little flat for such a milestone birthday, you wanted him to feel appreciated. With everything the class has gone through in the last three years, especially him and Midoriya, he deserved to be spoiled and shown how important he is to everyone.
In your mind, you went through the things Bakugo liked: hiking, cooking, All Might, spicy foods...maybe novels? You'd heard from Midoriya that he loves to read, but you didn't press him on what exactly his favorite genre was. Scribbling a bunch of ideas into a notebook, you brainstormed for awhile before the perfect inspiration struck - you can make him something!
Immediately, you call Midoriya to run your idea by him.
"Hey! What's up?" he answers cheerfully.
"Hi Izuku! I'm prepping a present for Katsuki's birthday and wanted to get your input. You got a few minutes?"
"Of course! What did you have in mind?" Midoriya seemed pleased that you chose him to help with your little creation for his best friend.
"Here's what I'm thinking..."
âââ
Later in the day, you return from the craft store with Midoriya, a couple of bags in hand with supplies for your gift. He helps you carry everything back to your dorm room and unloads it all onto your desk.
"Do you want any help making the book?" he offers.
"I think I'll be alright, but if you could get that recipe from Shoto, that would be a huge help!" You dump the supplies out onto your desk, spreading everything out neatly to begin working.
"Sure! I'll go ask him for it now. I'll be back soon!"
Midoriya exits your room quietly as you take a seat at your desk, prepping to start working on Bakugo's present. It wasn't anything fancy or flashy, but thought the sentiment was worth more than any lame gift card. You'd decided to make him a custom recipe booklet! It would be blank, with the exception of one recipe, for him to fill in as time goes on. You know how much he loves to cook and thought it would be handy to keep his favorite meals in one place. The first recipe would be a surprise - Fuyumi's mapo tofu recipe. Bakugo wouldn't shut up about it for weeks after going to Todoroki's house for dinner back in their first year. He more than likely had it, but having it be the first in the book sounds like a decent surprise.
A few hours and paper cuts later, you've crafted a cute little recipe booklet, bound with black rings and packed with subtly decorated pages. You chose not to theme the entire thing, more so just adding in areas for him to fill in instructions, ingredients and cooking time to the pages for reference. The cover was a burnt orange with a blank label on the front, plastered with a bunch of bright stickers of various styles - smiley faces, leaves, stars, food and other accenting themes. You didn't want to assume what Bakugo would want to label it, so you left it blank with some letter sticker sheets inside the cover. The rings are able to be opened, that way he can add additional pages in the future and expand the collection.
Your phone buzzes on the corner of your desk, a text notification from Midoriya appearing on screen.
[Izuku] stopping by with the recipe! [You] great! doors open, just come in when you're here
Midoriya knocks on your door a few minutes later, slipping inside your room and waltzing over to your desk. He looks down at the book you've crafted, eyes sparkling with excitement.
"Awww! This is so cool, he's going to absolutely love this. Don't be offended if he doesn't say it though," he jokes, shaking his head with a smile on his face. "You know he's still not great at expressing that kinda thing."
He hands you the recipe on a piece of paper. "Here, I wrote it down for you. Fuyumi's ecstatic you asked for it!"
"Thank you!" you gleam, studying the page's contents. "This'll work perfectly."
Midoriya leaves you to finish your present in peace. You copy over the recipe information onto the first page, organizing it neatly by the sections you created. It's finally finished! At least, that's what you thought until one last detail popped into your head.
Grabbing a black marker, you add in a short and sweet message to the inside cover of the book: "Happy 18th birthday Kats! Looking forward to years of your cooking. - ⥠(Y/N)"
Your heart flutters in your chest as you stare at the words, hoping he'll smile seeing it anytime he opens his recipe book. You grab the muted orange wrapping paper and neatly fold and tuck the book into it, tying it together with a black bow.
Waiting until the end of the week to see his reaction is going to be torture, but worth the wait to see him smile.
extremely flattered to be included in kae's bakugo birthday celebration series! be sure to check out each story this week leading up to his birthday on 4/20 âĄ

(Captain John price x F!reader)
Summary: the captain wants somewhere more homely to settle down and when an offer like yours comes alight on Zillow he must take up on it.
Warnings: angsty (very minimal), mentions of readers past relationship, some bond building, smoking, some tense moments
part 1 - part 2 - part 3 - part 4!!
ââââ-
âCaptain?â Soap yells from afar to get what seems to be prices attention. When he realizes that is indeed his captain he jogs to where John stands.
âWhatâre ye doinâ back?â Soap question a little confused, after their last two month mission John was granted leave for three months to recoup and rest.Â
âJust came to turn in these files.â He says waving the Manila folders in his hands.
âYou couldâve just done that online, you know.â And yes John does know and by the look he gives Johnny he also knows.
âWhat, trouble in paradise?â Johnny smiles widely at the guilty look on his captain's face.
âSomething like that.â John replies clearly a little tense.
âWell, tell me about it.â He says waiting expectantly.
âOver some drinks Sargent.â Price replies before making his way into the building and soap returning to the trainees.
ââââ-
âOh thatâs fucked mate.â Ghost says.
âCaptain no offense youâre a very intelligent and capable man but that is so fucking stupid.â Gaz states before taking a drink of his beer.Â
âYou thought oh Iâm catching some feelings for her, let's just ignore her.â Soap says in a mimicking voice.
âNo, it's not only that, I donât have time to entertain dense feelings and she likely doesnât share those same feelings.â His gruff voice replies as he takes a puff of his cigar and blows the smoke out into the pub they sit in.
âDid you ask her?â Gaz asks, already knowing the answer.
âAm I twelve? What grown man asks a woman if they have feelings for them usually thereâs hints and clues you can pick up on.â Ghost grumbles in agreement from price earning a slap on the arm from soap.
âAnd sheâs done nothing that may even give you an inkling that sheâs into you mate?â Gaz quips in.
âLike âoh hey captain can you help me open this jar?â Or âprice can you please help me fix this?â Johnny tries his best at a womanly voice.Â
âFirst of all she doesnât call me captain or price and second of all, yes she does that but itâs only because she needs the help.â They all look at him with blank stares.
âI bet you wish sheâd call you captain.â Soap whispers but before John can reply Gaz starts.
âCaptain, does she ever stutter when you talk to her?â Gaz asks, raising an eyebrow at him.
âsometimes.â He excuses that as human behavior.Â
âWhen she noticed your avoidance, did she get upset?â I mean you got a little mad at him that once but that was cause he was overstepping.Â
âA little.â He replies not really seeing where itâs going until oh.
âYeah cap, you're being naive.âÂ
âYou should go back there, be kinder and less weird. She probably thinks you donât like her and if that lasts too long sheâll start to actually not like you.â Well he obviously canât have that.
âWe need a mum anyways.â Gaz says under his breath and soap agrees.Â
âWhat?âÂ
âââââââ
âHey youâre back.â You canât resist the small smile that makes its way onto your face as John walks into the kitchen.
âTold you Iâd only be a day or two.â He repeats his words from a couple days ago, hands awkwardly in his pockets.Â
He notices thereâs something different in your energy that he picks up on or maybe itâs his energy that has changed.
âYeah but last time you said a month and weâre gone two.â He remembers that and sees your point then he thinks about the fact that you remember that.Â
âWell last time I really didnât think Iâd be gone that long but you know.â He says not going into detail and just waving it off.
âWell I have a job to get too.â You say closing the package of blueberries youâd been eating out of then place them back in the fridge.
âOn a Saturday?â He questions the unusuality of it.
âYeah I had a woman call me this morning, said her wedding was next week and she really wanted me to be the one to give her her dream hair so I agreed.âÂ
âOkay then, Iâll see you later, doll.â He says as you grab your keys and purse getting ready to leave.
âBye John.â You smile softly looking anywhere but him cause if you did the smile that lays on your face at the newfound nickname would be too evident.Â
ââââ-
âHey so weâre just doing some highlights and a cut right.â You ask the woman in your chair as you drape the cape over her paying mind to her swollen belly and button it in the back.
âYeah I actually have some pictures if thatâs okay.â She says pulling out her phone to show you.
âGreat, Iâd love to see them.â You say getting your equipment ready.
She shows you and by the already light tone of her hair this will be easy work. You get everything settled and ready, mixing the bleach and color and sorting through the pieces youâll paint.
âSo what made you ask me to do your hair?â This is a question you always love to ask your clients. Was it social media or a referral or maybe something else.
âMy finance actually recommended you.â Her fiance.
âOh I donât actually do menâs hair, whoâs your fiance?â You question a little confused but clearly he mightâve just seen you on instagram or had a friend whoâs been with you.
âBrian, he said he used to know you and heard you did really good hair.â No fucking way.
âOh yeah I know Brian old friends.â You smile through the tears that threaten to escape your eyes.Â
How could he? How could he give this woman everything youâve ever wanted then send her to you to show off that goddamn-
âHe says to tell you hi.â She smiles looking back at you not having a clue of who you really are.Â
âOh tell him I said hello.â You reply shortly.
âHowâd you two meet?â You ask curiously.
âWe actually worked together and when we first started talking he was actually in a relationship but nothing serious and the more we spent time together it just became clear we were meant to be together.â Her.
âSo he cheated on his ex partner?â You say in a polite tone, one a girlfriend would use.
âWell I guess you could say that but according to him their relationship was over before it was over.â You smile at her nodding in understanding.Â
Scream, you wanted to scream your fucking head off the rest of the appointment. But no you stood there politely and gave this woman the most beautiful hair you couldâve imagined you even took fucking pictures for her to send to youâre cheating ex.
âââââ
On the way home you cried out of anger not even out of jealousy, or sadness just anger at the audacity that man had and the years you wasted with such a fucking loser.
When you pulled into the driveway you turned the car off and just sat there. You sat there and pondered on everything. Youâd always asked him for a baby and heâd said he would never be a father. You always wanted to get married and he would say âmarriage isnât my thing.â And yet heâll do it all for another woman. A woman he really loves.Â
But in the end you're glad itâs not you. It isnât you that has to deal with that man child, it wonât be you whoâs stuck with someone who isnât faithful. In the end youâre the lucky one and finally you feel like you can let it go.Â
So you dry your eyes and head inside, kicking off your shoes by the door and paying notice to John thatâs currently in the living room. You walk over to the couch and sit a comfortable amount of space away from him simply testing the waters and watch the football game he has on.
âHow was your appointment?â He says suddenly taking in notice of your puffy eyes.
âGood.â You reply in a whisper with a half smile.
âYouâre lying.â He assumed maybe just an asshole client or the outcome wasnât good.
âIt was my ex boyfriend's new pregnant fiancĂ©, who also happens to be the woman he cheated on me with.â You admit with a small laugh at the end with how ridiculous that sounds.
âYou got cheated on?â He asks, thoroughly shocked not paying mind to the other details.
âAnd sheâs hot.â You reply looking him in the eye. All heâs thinking is hotter than you?
âDid she know who you were?â This has to be the most mind fucking thing heâs ever heard.
âNot a clue and what's funnier is he recommended me to her.â You laugh again and itâs slightly scary how calm you seem.
âYouâre not upset?â
âJohn I was over that man the minute he cheated on me. Iâm only upset over all the time I lost wanting things he said he never wanted but what he meant was he never wanted that with me.â You say quietly between the two of you like itâs a secret.Â
âHis loss.â he says, offering you a small smile.
âI guess.âÂ
âNo doll I know.â You donât know what to make of that comment and just smile back at him.Â
ââââ-
Later that night after a long shower you step onto the outside patio for some fresh air not noticing John smoking a cigar beside you.Â
âJesus!â You jump slightly at the sight of his looming shadow.
âAt this point just expect me to be everywhere.â He laughs as he exhales the puff of smoke.Â
âI didnât know you smoked.â You reply before taking in the sight before you. John in Leviâs, a thermal and brown leather jacket, thick fingers holding a cigar between them lightly tapping it to drop the excess ash.
âIâm sorry, does it bother you?â He asks suddenly, concerned about whether that was in the policy or something.Â
âNo, not at all.â You smile shivering at the breeze that blows through the air.
He offers the cigar between his fingers by gesturing it towards you, youâve smoked cigarettes but this thing looked like a cigarette on steroids. Nonetheless you didnât decline the offer and hesitantly wrapped your lips around it giving it a small puff letting the earthy flavor consume your taste buds as you exhale.Â
John watches you with longing eyes. Truthfully he expected you to grab it from him but instead you toked it straight from his fingers and shit it was hot. The way your lips wrapped around the very end had him running hot suddenly. The layers he wore were becoming overbearingly warm.Â
âDo you ever wish you chose a normal career?â The question left your lips before you could think about why you were asking it and he clears his dirty mind before answering.Â
âNot really, my job makes me feel like I have purpose and although my hands get dirty itâs for a good cause.â You nod as you look up into the blue sky thatâs slowly becoming darker.Â
âYou do have purpose outside your job though you know that right?â You look him in the eye for a mere second then back up.Â
Heâs taken aback slightly by your statement and stays silent. He lets it settle in his thoughts and feelings. Wondering what prompted you to say it in the first place.
âThankyou.â He replies shortly after.Â
âYou're welcome.â You reply gently.
âIâm going to head inside, donât be out here too long youâll get sick.â You say sliding the door open and he laughs in return. If you even had the slightest idea of the weather heâs lived in.Â
âââ
You woke up the next morning bright and early, currently stood in the kitchen brewing hot water for tea and setting the coffee machine on. One for you, one for John. He was surprisingly still asleep although it also is still very early. He never sleeps past 7.
As you turn the heat off the stove, knocking sounds at the front door. Maybe a package you assumed as you made your way down the hall peeking through the small hole to see whoâs out there and to your surprise it was a woman.Â
âHi, how can I help you?â She looks at you a bit taken aback.
âDoes John Price live here?â She asks as her blonde hair blows in the cold breeze.Â
âYeah?âÂ
âI need to speak to him.â
âOkay Iâll be right back.â Was this a lover of Johnâs, maybe an ex wife or something. You knock softly at his door and nothing so you knock a little louder. Before you hear a grunt and the squeak of the hardwood floors.
âMorning, yâalright?â He asks with a deep sleepy voice.Â
You take notice of His messy hair and pajama bottoms hanging low on his hips so you practically beg and will yourself to not look at his body.Â
âYeah sorry thereâs a woman at the door for you.â You reply smiling when you notice the sleep marks on the side of his face.Â
âOh okay let me just put a shirt on, tell her Iâll be right out.â He can already guess who it is and quietly curses to himself. No peace of his ever lasted long.
You relay the message to her and offer her to come inside which she politely accepts but goes no further than the entrance.Â
âIâm Kate by the way.â She offers her hand to you.Â
âOh nice to meet you Kate, are you a friend of Johnâs?â You pry.
âOh yeah, a longtime one.â You shouldâve known.
âWeâve been working together since he was a lieutenant and that was ages ago.â She laughs and you feel light with relief for whatever reason.
âLaswell.â A deep voice sighs out from behind her.
âWell donât be too excited to see me.â She says to him.
You get the message to exit the room and do so. He walks with her to the kitchen, offers her a drink then they both go to his office and from the sound of it have a pretty heated conversation. Not that you were eavesdropping or anything.
âââ-
It was hours before she left and when she did John didnât seem too happy. You walk to the door a bit after you hear it shut. John stands there running a hand through his hair.
âYou okay?â You stupidly ask as he rubs his forehead still standing in front of the door although she left 10 minutes ago.
âYeah doll Iâm alright.â He sounds tired and bothered.Â
âOkay.â You begin to turn around getting the feeling he doesnât want you there.Â
âWait, actually I have to leave tomorrow for a while..â He replies quickly.Â
âOh.â You try not to sound too disappointed.
âIâll leave you a check for six months, if Iâm gone longer my checkbook is in the bedside drawer. If you need assistance with anything I have a friend you can call please donât do it yourself or have someone else do it.â He says as you stand there not getting past the eight month part.
âSix months or longer?â He meets your eyes seeing a hint of sadness.
âYeah thatâs what I can expect.â You suck your bottom lip between your teeth for a second not really knowing how to reply.Â
âAre you hungry?âÂ
âWhat?â He replies at the random change in topic.
âWould you like to order too much food and watch a movie?â You ask again.
âSure?âÂ
âI mean if youâre leaving for months and you seem upset about it then itâs serious and whenâs the next time youâll eat good food, you know?â You explain.
âItalian?âÂ
âItalian.âÂ
ââââââ-
You both sit on the living room couch in the dim ambient light while âHow to lose a guy in 10 daysâ plays on the TV, your choice. Empty boxes once filled with pasta and bread now are mostly empty. You tell John every time one of your favorite parts is coming on but not like you even needed to. He can tell by the anxious shake of your foot and slightly raised eyebrow.
âSo does he ever find out that itâs for the em magazine and does she find out itâs for a bet?â He asks midway through the movie.
âYouâll have to watch it.â You whisper.
He laughs and for a moment in time he feels content, at ease for once. He feels like this is the moment heâll recall in the next eight months when nights are cold and heâs spent.Â
Your eyes are drifting closed before the movie is over and he watches you find sleep then returns his attention to the tv determined to finish the movie. Once all is done he picks the containers up off the floor quietly and turns the tv off kneeling to the floor to wake you.
âDoll letâs get you to bed.â He whispers in the dark. You're slightly disappointed you fell asleep but your drowsy mind doesnât let you think too deeply as you bid him a goodnight and head to bed.
ââââ-
The next morning he was ready to leave at 4AM. Big duffel bag in hand and a backpack. He thinks of waking you to say goodbye and even walks to your door. But he doesnât not because he doesnât want to but because he wonât want to leave if he does. Internally he curses himself for wasting so much time avoiding you the previous weeks.Â
So he writes a quick note and of course the promised check and heads on his way.

Hallo! Truly loved the MonsterAU stories! Wonderful, amazing writing!
Would it be possible for you to write: what if human!reader was turned into a chimera?
Akin to this:
Feel free to ignore!
ChimĂŠra
Pairing: Monster 141 x Chimera!reader
Cw: science experiment, human torture, human testing, gore?, blood, canon-typical violence, unethical human experiments, kidnapping, child abuse, malnutrition, child neglect, tell me if I missed any. Wc: 3.6k (A/N): credit to @bluegiragiâs monster 141 designs.
They were tipped off by an anonymous source that some shady and highly illegal things were being done in a small and remote town near the border of Belarus, their ongoings unknown to both the government and public of their country, but someone had given Laswell a file containing all the horrific tests conducted within the closed walls of the innocuous-looking compound âa laboratory dressed as a simple military base. The folder held snapshots of emails and files sent between scientists and researchers, small indications of what was being done to both humans and monsters, yet withholding important intel about certain things. It disclosed the location, the names and faces of every worker and leading figure in the compound, the number of security and their schedules, and what was done, but not what was truly happening, it left small clues, sublet words here and there with hidden meanings ânever clear images, blurry ones as if the person was in a rush.
Despite not having clear indications of the illegal activities, Laswell had enough to have 141 sent to take it down, to bring the dehumanising lab to its ground and burn it down. She didnât have trouble convincing them, it was telling enough to let them read the condensed files for them to read, to see themselves the monstrosity being done to children and monsters they took, kidnapped from around the world to be left at the deceitful hands of crazed scientists. There wasnât much to be found outside it, the base wore the facade of a benevolent patron, bearing the crest of kindhearted investors wanting to rebuild rundown houses and reconstruct rough and broken roads and paved streets in the town they took to hide. It worked for the most part, they profited from this by acting without raising any suspicion from anyone, neither the authorities nor the people.Â
âChrist,â Gaz swore, looking down at the words in the file he received, the teased truth and the dreadful treatments through a thick layer of secrets and subtle wording, the only clear intel was from the straightforward emails sent to and from researchers and the heads of the facility, unabashed and shameless bragging of their success and the narrative to which these subjects could be used. âWhy did it take so long?â
A recurrent theme of these was about a certain subject, it was about C34, spoken with such pride and joy about their creation, the work of the new world and the future made within these walls. Most emails were the exchanges between them about C34âs training, the ongoing treatments and every successful mission and exercises, they spoke of C34 as if they were a dog, a rabid mutt they captured and took on the task of domesticating it. It was demeaning, degrading and cruel, to look at another being as something lower, something needing domestication âit went against every rule and law put in place to protect humanity, the many conventions sworn to protect the goodwill and security of the innocents.
âWeâve had our suspicions before,â Laswell sighed, the images of the screen switching with the small click of her control, laser pointing at the images of various weapons cache and illegally procured weapons. âThere was a slip up in the shipping, it was dropped here-â she motioned to a circled area in the map, a closeup of a secluded road near the town, âand we were able to retrace it to the facility. We needed more intel about the facility before acting and we needed to know what we're facing here, if we should send a team or send you.â
âWhat now?â Price tilted his head back, smoke leaving the sides of his frown, a deep and unpleasant one. He couldnât even look at the intel given with a straight face, the shadowed truth of cruelty and dehumanising acts done by humans. âFigured you send us after seeing this, Laswell?â
Laswell nodded, jumping to another slide, showing blurred images of subject C34, a blurry figure, tall and imposing in every way possible. They stood high, stature seemingly one belonging to a monster or hybrid: on four legs and the wide, familiar shape of wings, everything about C34 cried monster. Perhaps one they captured as a child, taken from their mother and kept in this cell. There were many pictures of this one, blurry and disfigured, but others had smaller shapes, the size of children with various characteristics.Â
âSteaminâ bloody Jesus!â Soap spat, disgust dripping from his tone in waves, unending as were the otherâs curses, each holding their level of horror and repugnance. His face was wound tight, brows dipped lowly and lips pursed, he balled his fists, anger rising within him with every image he saw, the deplorable conditions and the care given to the monsters âwhat could they even expect from this shady company engineering monster and human DNA to fit their preferred narrative, for money, for reputation, for strength. âWe âave tae do somethinâ about this, Price!â
Soap - Johnny - had always been the more emotional one, letting his good heart lead his decisions when the situation seemed to fit it. His wolf made him more susceptible to emotional attachment, a pack mentality driven deeply into his mind and heart, he was viciously loyal and wore his heart on his sleeve, uncaring of how heâd be hurt by a betrayal, he simply saw the best in the world, something many couldnât after a while, but Soap could, Johnny was a good man at heart. Thatâs why he reacted the most out of everyone, voicing his distaste and hate, his need for revenge and the sanctity of the lives being stolen in the facility.Â
Soap pushed Price to agree, seeing no reason not to lead the breach, to uncover everything done to innocent lives. His eyes connected to the man hidden in the darkness, his blue eyes gleaming with fierce justice, a contrast to the wraith who lay in silence, abhorrent and seething quietness. Ghost peered at him, head tilted up with white pupils darkened by black eyes, death layering off him with calmness. He gave Soap a curt nod, affirmation for him to continue to voice his mind, to help those in need.Â
âSeems like itâs been decided, Kate,â Price gave her a lopsided smirk, amber eyes narrowed with what could be read as anger, teeth sinking into the girth of his cigar, ash falling. âWhen are we going?â
Her lips parted in a proud grin, eyes gleaming with something dark and wrathful. She leaned on the table, head held high and shoulder broad while she flicked off the projector:
âWheels up at 1500 tomorrow.â
You stared down the man before you, watching him tremble under your cold gaze, steps hesitant to approach you despite being seated, body prone on the hard floor you called a bed. He was new, possibly recently employed and his boss - or his direct manager - played a dirty game with him. It was some kind of rite of passage for every new employee courageous enough to accept their recruitment, all bright-eyed geniuses wanting to build their place on earth with forthgoing discovery, desperate and narcissistic; yet they were so easily tricked into you cage, locked in by cackling and grinning guards and coworkers.Â
He smelled young, fresh-faced and a bit nervous, most were when they first saw you. You remembered everyone who walked in, the smell of fear and anxiety, the disgusting scent oozing off their bodies, rotten and putrid like a rotting corpse. You wouldâve gagged and choked if you werenât used to it, having grown close to the smell of death, calling the reaper your friend. You werenât bothered by him, only the cart he was wheeling over, a big and heavy cooler that smelled fresh. He was made to bring you food by his boss, a cruel joke played on every new scientist who was always so eager to meet you before cowering in terror once the lock clicked.Â
Standing before your third cage, he unlocked the small hatch and, with effort and a loud grunt, pushed the cooler into the hole, big enough for a big cooler but small enough to fit your arm through it. You waited until he stumbled away, distancing him from you before reaching for the container, it was light, weighing little in your palm. They fed you raw meat, sometimes buying the fresh catch of a Belarus hunter, usually an elk or a wild boar, but if they were lucky, a bison or a bear, other times they would have conserved meat shipped from outside the town, bigger cities or outside the border.Â
Today was an elk, the meat cold and free of rot, it smelled as good as a fresh kill did, bloody and heady. You ripped into it without care, tuning out the loud retch from the scientist as you gorged on your meal, claws tearing it in half and biting into the bloody meat. Blood rolled down your lip, painting your cheeks crimson and staining the cream-coloured rag they considered a shirt. It would be changed after your meal, as it always was. Despite the elk weighing around six hundred kilograms, you finished it quickly, with pointed teeth cutting and pulling flaps of meat and ligament, blood spraying and dirtying the metal ground near the hatch.Â
It was filling, albeit cold. You cleaned your hands of blood, licking it off like a grooming cat, tongue laving over the sharp edge of your claw and under your blunt fingernails. You peered at him from under your lashes, eyes gleaming in the darkness. You watched - pleased with yourself - him shudder, face growing green with unnerve at your show. You knew he was desperate to leave, to get a breath of fresh air outside of your cell, you understood his fear and wanted him to suffer for helping your owner, the man watching over your training, but you wanted him gone before he emptied his stomach on your floor. So you pushed the cooler out, clawed arm breaching past the hatch to leave it farther from your cage.Â
He left hastily, legs shaky and face pale.Â
âI want a bison next time,â you growled, words rolling off your tongue huskily from its rare use.Â
It looked as inconspicuous through the NVGs as it did in the pictures, a few grey buildings built lowly to hide an immense labyrinth dug into the ground, secret passages crossing unending halls with locked doors and tipped with surveillance cameras to watch over the whole facility. They studied the very walls that made this place a secret fortress, from the body to its heart, like mounting a brigade against a castle, Laswellâs team found the few hidden entrances that connected to the lesser-used passages, winding through many hallways and wide vents, big enough for humans but too tight for monsters the size of C34. Task Force 141 led the mission, infiltrating the base under the darkness of night where they could crawl and slink through shadows to catch what they hunted. They were joined by Marines, all experienced and skillful, wearing scars like a badge of honour. It would either be a quick in and out, or a long and strenuous infiltration.Â
Price took Gaz and led half of the Marines through the west, breaching the lab from above. They pushed in steadily, relaying information and physical cues to Watcher - Laswell - with a body cam recording everything they saw, the facade they wore above ground, hiding their dark enterprise. Ghost, as usual, has Soap watch his six, following closely behind him with puppy-like loyalty and the other half of the Marines. Team Twoâs - Delta - mission started through the underground passage they sniffed out, a long and unwinding hall that went straight through the heart of the facility. Ghostâs team went dark, needing the cover of silence to stay hidden in a highly protected area of the base to run this clandestine mission. They spoke only when needing to, to make calls, to reaffirm intel or to let both Bravo and Watcher know a change, the tech team in the temporary safe house a few miles away from the compound watched through the cams, from the subtle change in the air to a jarring lead to what was happening.Â
While Price and Gaz worked on creating a distraction, taking a load off team Deltaâs shoulders, they could work through the system faster and more efficiently with the fire taken off their backs and front. It was controlled chaos for both teams, creating a mass discordance within the enemy lines: panicked higher-ups at the sudden attack, while they had a small squad of personal soldiers, they were unprepared, taken by surprise by both teams attacking on two fronts; and confused mercenaries, their quiet and boring schedules made them lose the edge of suspicion, of wariness towards what awaited them and the sheltered job with little to no action apart from a few failed escape attempts by the subjects.
âDelta 0-1 moving in,â Ghost mumbled into the coms, his team following him closely, rifle held tightly with the muzzle pointed forward as they crossed the threshold of section C, heading towards the one holding the monster subjects.Â
They left behind them groups of bodies, slumped over the walls or limp on the ground, blood painting the sterilised and glossy walls, turning the once white hall into a grotesque place, dead bodies covering the length of the corridor like the ones they walked through before, leaving the stench of death that even the Marines could sniff out. It wasnât clean - they werenât aiming for it to be clean - but they wouldnât need it to be clean when the Laswell would send a clean-up team to deal with this, Ghost would steal a bite before they arrived, quenching his hunger for revenge with them.Â
A few guards stayed to watch over the cells, doors unlocked by a keycard that most guards kept in their back pocket, Ghost would have to take one off a dead body. Under Ghostâs cover, Soap dashed to the other side of the hall, taking a few with him to corner the mercenaries, boxing them into a closed hallway until they all died. Despite a few of the Marines taking shots, bruising the skin under their plate, black and blue blossoming like a bloody flower under the thin layer of skin, they kept their heads high and minds clear, moving forward without a misstep or hesitation. Soap swiped a few cards from the bodies, throwing one to Ghost.Â
âDelta 0-1 to Watcher, can you hear me?â
âSolid copy, Ghost,â Laswell voice rang out clearly, reaching his ears in seconds.
âWe found the cells,â his eyes roved over them, white paint over thick, cement walls to hold whatever they locked into the cells, perhaps the children the saw or the big one, C34.
âDo you have the keycards?â
âAffirm,â Ghost growled slowly, hearing Laswell's confirmation to continue. âGoing in.â
He tapped the pad, a loud beep ringing in their ears as the lockâs mechanism creaked to life, unlatching from its metal hold to let them in. Both he and Soap walked in, leaving the others to watch their backs while they surveyed the first room. It was dimly lit as it was bare of any decorations apart from a visible toilet, a small sink and a few metal beds. It looked like any usual cells they came across, made barren and empty of anything useful to prevent the prisoners from escaping or causing a ruckus, but the people they kept in these cells were children. Soap swore under his breath at the sight of children huddled together, seemingly no older than 12, he lowered his rifle. They were backed into a corner, three older kids holding a younger one in their arms, protecting her from them, from whoever meant to harm these children.Â
They looked malnourished, left to slowly rot in these cement boxes until the scientist found something worthwhile in them, their cheeks sunken in, eyes droopy and swollen with bruises - they were beaten, it made something ugly rear its head inside Ghost dead heart - and lips dried. One was armless, having wings that they used to cover both of their cellmates, naked with only feathers covering their body, this one looked more like a harpy than it did human. The two others had arms, both having the lower half of a mammal, neither of them was sure which four-legged mammal it was, but one had a pair of wings, while the otherâs back was bare of anything.Â
âWeâve found the children.â
You could hear the chaos from your cell, the blaring alarm and the smell of death. The building shook from its foundation, vibration emanating from both the ground floor and the basement, just farther from your hall, the closed and sectioned-off area. They separated you from the defective ones, all your young mistakes they made after achieving success âyou. They tried to recreate it, but it never came out how they wanted it. Maybe it was a mistake on their part or maybe it was the lack of a certain gene in their DNA, a subtle difference that you and the rest had. You didnât want to know and you didnât want them to succeed a second time, it was painful, the shift, the tests and the change, the storm of pain, terror and confusion werenât worth this power.Â
You could hear the booming sound of gunfire, a loud ricochet of the bullet when the nitrocellulose sparked and sent the bullet outwards, finding its destination in the warm flesh of human guards. You usually enjoyed this kind of chaos if you knew what started it, and laughed when something caused trouble for your captors, but you were cautious of this one. You neither knew who thought to disturb the peace nor did you know who was behind this, their scents strange and the sound of steps unknown. All you knew was that their steps were heavy, out of breath but pushing their way into - what you thought to be - section C. The place they kept the young and willful.Â
You might be blinded by your cell, but the guards outside your confinement knew how to talk, their chatter and barking orders loud enough for you to hear through the thick walls. From them, you knew they were strangers, unknown players on your board of pawns. You didnât know their goal, whether they were here to let you out or keep you in a cage of their making, but you knew they were a gamble on your fate. As the noise got closer, you sat down, crossed your paws and waited, cautiously awaiting to see what your verdict would be.
Strangely enough, there was a different section, separated from the other one by many gates and stricter security, but they were able to break through it. Security was concentrated in one hall as if the monster they locked at the end of this hallway was of big importance. It had higher security, stronger and thicker. Ghost wondered if it was to keep the monster in or keep people out, either way, this meant that they found the thing they first came here for: the trained and dangerous subject C34.Â
Ghost was apprehensive about opening this metal door, built taller than any doors heâd seen, it was as wide as it was tall, metres over what would be considered normal for a human or monster, similar to the wide gates that protected British castles, tall and imposing, but the most worrying was itâs vast amount of security measures. He thought back to the blurrier giant he saw in the picture, their shape indescribable and otherworldly, almost alien-like. His eyes met Soapâs reassuring ones, standing steadfast and unyielding to do good in the world. So with a nod, Ghost worked through the locks and scans of the heavy, metal door made to keep this cement cage closed. This door clicked loudly, echoing down the hall with ominous intent, foreseeing something damming and destructive.Â
Yet they hadnât expected to see another cage within the cage, a box made of reinforced glass, large and robust and inside of it was another cage, a rough metal one with bars for walls, a sick joke of a birdâs gilded cage. It wouldâve seemed almost exaggerated to have three layers - three different cages - to keep one subject safely locked up until he caught sight of the monster. Lying on the cold, metal ground with legs folded in, tail curled around them and staring at both him and Soap with cautious curiosity. It looked like a gryphon if it were more reptilian than a mammal, this monster had a human torso, a head wearing a stoic expression, dressed in rags. Where there would normally be legs was the body of a bird, an eagle perhaps from the golden-brown plumage and reptilian legs from the knee down, followed by a fully scaled back, hind legs and a strong tail. Each toe was tipped with a sharp claw, big and deadly if it got its hands on someone, it could easily rip into anyone without putting in much effort. The biggest thing about it was the folded wings, feathered and equipped with a talon. If it could fly, these wings would be powerful.Â
He understood why they kept it locked, it was neither man, monster or hybrid. It was a beast of human creation, a creature made to be at the peak of its condition. It was smart, he could see it, the glint in its eyes and the pursed lips, mien kept monotone and calm âobservant.Â
What did Laswell sign them into?Â
