Prompt: Caroline goes to NOLA, sees Klaus' new life, unicorn baby and all, and decides to do Rome, Paris and Tokyo on her own? Angst with happy ending please? Thank you! :)

24 hours and 10,344 word later and I finally finished this one! 

A little forewarning to you anon, and everyone else. This has a very small amount of smut, nothing that I would deem NSFW by any means. 

BUT that being said, I suggest sitting down with this baby somewhere alone, somewhere you will not be interrupted, somewhere you can scream, somewhere that (if I did my job correctly) you can go through a box of tissues without fear of discovery. You wanted angst? I’m feeling confident that I have delivered! Now please excuse me while I run away and hide as I wait in nail biting anxiety at how this emotional roller-coaster will be received. So without further ado, I give you….

“So, is this everything youwanted to show me?”

Klaus felt his heart stop atthe sound of her voice, hope filling him even as he heard the scratchy qualityto it. Even as he spun around to find her standing within the shadows of thefloor to ceiling open window of his New Orleans home, knowing once she steppedfurther into the light spilling out from the room, her face would show the sameevidence of her tears as her voice held.

“Caroline.” He utteredreverently, still holding out hope that his senses were not playing tricks onhim. That she had truly come for him, even though he stood so close to Camillethat he could hear the hurt hitch in her breath and feel her body give apainful shake against his side at how he worshiped this other woman’s name.

“Is it?” Caroline sneeredangrily in attempts to reign in her pain as she came into full view.

His heart began to crack andfizzle. He had seen her in different stages of pain, some caused by him, somecaused by others. And yet the force of her pain there in the open now was ofthe likes of which he had never seen on anyone. The devastation nearly equalto, if not more so, than that dreadfully, fateful day that changed the courseof his family’s entire history.

His mouth floundered open andclosed, like a fish chasing a hook, searching for it even though knowing allthe while it could be its last move and that death awaited at its sharp andtwisted end.

The room was filled withothers, none of which uttered a word. Some looked between the heartbrokenblonde and the quickly shattering Original Hybrid in confusion. Others withmenacing glee, others with sympathy at what they knew was about to come.

“Answer me dammit!” Even thehitch in her voice due to her pain didn’t take away from the pure viciousnessof her snarl.

She stalked her way to himand like the glutton he was for pain and anything Caroline, he still didn’tutter more than a croak as he stepped to meet her in the center of the room.The center of the audience that all waited with baited breath, in stunnedsilence for what would come.

Her head lowered, her eyes ablazing fire that cut him more than any knife or sword ever could as shegrowled with her demand, “Is. It.”

“No.” His voice trembled overthe single syllable word.

His eyes widened as hersnarrowed. The entire room sucked in a soundless breath, holding it as the onlysound that followed his reply was a resounding crack as her palm met his cheek.The force of it twisting his neck to the side, nearly stumbling before herighted himself. Not caring that everyone waited, some expecting him to drawblood, some expecting him to meet pain with pain. But none knew just how deeplyhis own pain was in the face of hers.

None expected the stutteringbroken sounds to be released from his shattering chest, “Ca-Caro-Caroline.”

This time his face was metwith her fist. Her enraged snarls beginning even before he could right himselfagain.

“You don’t get to talk! Youdon’t even get to breathe!”

The entirety of I Don’t Dance from High School Musical 2 is literally about Chad denying that he’s gay because he’s an athlete (also dancing is stereotypically “gay” activity while sports (like baseball and basketball) are typically hyper masculine and therefore hetero) and Ryan trying to prove to him that that doesn’t matter like c'mon guys Ryan goes “you’ll never know if you never try” and Chad says “but there’s just one little thing that stops me every time” thay one little thing is his fear of coming out because he’s an athlete and he’s scared of how his teammates and so on will react because athletes just can’t be gay, right? like it’s so significant that they were playing baseball specifically because “pitching” and “catching” are euphemisms for “topping” and “bottoming” and I probably don’t even have the explain the context of “swinging” (ie. towards men or towards women) also in the scene right before the song actually starts they do that thing with the bat where the put their hands on top of one anothers to see who will bat first. Like guys cmon, a baseball bat is such a phallic symbol (hand jobs my dudes). and literally while chad is swearing up and down that he doens’t dance he eventually starts to dance anyway, which symbolizes him starting to accept himself whilst still being a little wary to really come out? then they even go as far as to switch clothes afterward and are damn near sitting in eachother’s laps with taylor, chad’s “girlfriend,” just kind of awkwardly standing beside them it is so painfully obvious that chad and ryan were supposed to be gay but the writers couldn’t make it truly canon because this was Disney in 2007 so they set ryan up with kelsi even though kelsi was clearly a lesbian and had a crush on sharpay but Chad and Ryan definetely got married after college and adopted a bunch of kids and if anyone disagrees with me on this they’re welcome to take it up with my lawyer
