i have this silent awe and appreciation for experience and wisdom that comes with time. when monotony and redundancy turn into a craft, when the amateur turns into an expert, when it becomes effortless to others. but there is practice hidden underneath it all. years of it. it is how my father can measure distances without any instruments because he has been an engineer for so long and his kids watch him do it in awe. it is how i know just the correct amount of milk and sugar when i make coffee for the people i love and they think it to be alchemy. it is the combination of efficiency and knowledge that only time can bring. gifted talents are great, but a time-honed talent is labor and repetition. you claim it as your own because time has made it yours, time has etched it like a schoolkid etches their initials on the desk over a period of time
No, but seriously. How did he get the irises? Because I like to picture this man running in the middle of the garden, guarded by his own shadows, looking desperately for blue irises. This is a hundred times more entertaining than him just asking a servant for a bouquet of flowers. It's hilarious guys, picture him running. I can't. He's a dork.

I can't explain how much I love this book and Leigh Bardugo and this story and the details and the characters and I'm sorry I'm a mess bye
Ninth House Spoilers!

I think it’s poetic that ninth house ended with Dante (Alex) on a quest to go to Hell to get Virgil (Darlington) back.
ok while i wouldn’t mind a alina corruption arc what i rly want is a half domesticated aleks w a slightly more nuanced alina. i don’t want them to take over the world but i do want them to form a government in which they actively plan a role in and which focuses on ensuring that the actual problem is solved. this is what i want instead of a “oh aleks bad bc he lied to me and he must be evil bc he wants for freedom for grisha which ofc means he’s just being power hungry so let me go on a mission to kill him without solving the problem and then let my just retire to a bloody farm— still without solving the problem because that’s so perfect” alina and co storyline. like cmon i’m not asking for much and i’m literally just improving what happened soooo...
