It's midnight and I'm thinking about Alex sleeping peacefully in darlington's arms on his narrow bed. She no longer has to worry about her boyfriend coming home home high on drugs and a fight breaking out because she knows that by the time he returns from a ritual it's going to be late and she will be half asleep but that's okay because she will still feel him sliding into the bed with his hair still damp and he will turn off the lamp she left on before giving her a little kiss on the forehead. She will always turn around and find him reaching for her in his sleep and then he will kiss her shoulder before relaxing again. If she wakes up when he arrives at home, there will always be midnight kisses as he tells her about all the things he had to do and how insufferable all the people were. She can always count on him coming home early on date nights. She will always wake up to fresh flowers by her side on Sundays and Darlington will be on the phone with her mom so she can tell him to how to cook Alex's breakfast exactly how she likes it.

The fact that Alina was walking around with her internal monologue like, “I tried to think of anything but the stormcloud color of his eyes” about the man she supposedly hated. Lol.

ok while i wouldn’t mind a alina corruption arc what i rly want is a half domesticated aleks w a slightly more nuanced alina. i don’t want them to take over the world but i do want them to form a government in which they actively plan a role in and which focuses on ensuring that the actual problem is solved. this is what i want instead of a “oh aleks bad bc he lied to me and he must be evil bc he wants for freedom for grisha which ofc means he’s just being power hungry so let me go on a mission to kill him without solving the problem and then let my just retire to a bloody farm— still without solving the problem because that’s so perfect” alina and co storyline. like cmon i’m not asking for much and i’m literally just improving what happened soooo...

Omg not ben saying he's the one who also improvised the "are you sure" I??? Lmfaoooo the way he's carrying darklina on his back if it wasn't for him I'm sure we wouldn't have gotten most of the little things we love about them love that for us but also it just makes me even more convinced that they had and have no intention of further developing darklina and although he's going to be doing the most, actors can only do so much in the end it's the writers who have 99% of the creative control so it's a loosing game when the creator hates your characters' and ships guts

God did he also improvise that??? Ben will not rest until he adds verbal consent to all of his sex scenes even if he’s a villain. Bastard does it with Billy Russo too. Someone stop him (but don’t, I love it).

Ben actually has a pretty large amount of creative control over the Darkling it seems. He was able to get book lines in there, clearly they let him do a lot of improvisations. He got to expand on the character’s emotions a lot. So I’m pretty sure he’ll keep fighting for the Darkling’s humanity until the very end and I love him for it

I really need a novella or else it was a horrible ending that I will proceed to ignore. *eyeroll*

(And How It Was Thwarted By The Final Chapter)

If you haven’t already read this post by @bluebellss1 I would highly recommend reading that first because it was what inspired this one (I was going to reblog and add on to the original post, but my own interpretation got so long I thought it might be easier to make a new one 🙈).

I love everything about the above mentioned post. And while I’m not a huge fan of shipping characters based off of themes/motifs (I’d rather ship them based on in-text evidence), I’ll admit there’s something that should have been super satisfying about Addie/Luc, but that the ending of TILOAL failed to provide for its characters and readers.

As bluebellss said, Addie represents the stars, and the symbolism for this is not at all subtle. The recurring phrase “a constellation of stars” in reference to Addie is evidence enough, and I believe Schwab even described Addie as a “girl made of stars” in an Instagram post before the book was released.

We know Luc is the night/darkness. We’re told this point blank, time and time again throughout the book. 

So when is the only time we ever truly see stars? At night. And what is darkness if we don’t have light to compare it to? Nothing.
