A second COVID wave has taken out the healthcare system. There are no more hospital beds. There's an oxygen shortage. There's a critical vaccine shortage. The Central Government has thrown its hands up and is passing the baton to the State Governments to do what they can.

There are over 16 million covid cases. A record 330,000 new cases reported yesterday - comparable to the US at its peak. 187,000 dead as of today.

There is no plan.

Mass cremations are taking place. The cremation grounds are running day and night and they are short on wood. People are watching their loved ones die while waiting for a hospital bed, and then they're unable to give them the proper burial rights.

Hospitals are overwhelmed. Patients are being confined, two to a bed. They're the lucky ones.

We are on the verge of people dying in the streets.

This is the second-most populous country in the world. The largest democracy. A country that encapsulates over 15,000 years of recorded human history and has endured everything from famine to invasion to colonisation.

We might be at the end. This might be the thing that does us in.

People are dying.

More good news? Variants are popping up. A double mutation strain has shown up. It is resistant to current vaccines. This will not go away. This is the devastation they warned of when the anti-maskers were out protesting the minor inconvenience of covering their face in public.

But two days ago, my grandmother tested positive, had to be taken to hospital and the ambulance caught fire.

She barely made it to the urgent care she needs.

re the Annual Kink At Pride Discourse: here's my input on the question of 'should Pride be exclusively sfw and family friendly?'

idk there's like 6000 more important questions about what should be part of Pride than 'can sexual content be present WHAT ABOUT THE CHILDREN' let's start with:

why are TERFs allowed to feel entitled to a place

why is Pride policed

why are police allowed to march in Pride as a bloc under a police banner but sex workers aren't allowed to march in Pride under a sex worker banner?

why do we let political parties join the march while passing violently anti-trans (looking at you the SNP) and anti-gay (yeah you the Conservatives) legislations?

why are 90% of the march leaders and big blocs corporate advertising?

why is so much Pride events pay-to-play

why have radical queer groups like LGSM, the Lesbian Avengers or the Queer Collective been actively and increasingly excluded from Pride to the extent that the original founders of London Pride were pushed out of the parade altogether in favour of shilling for Absolut and Barclays?

why is Pride treated as a place where straight people can come to say 'I'm not homophobic' and like I literally. L I T E R A L L Y had to listen to a straight woman in a gay bar during Pride say to my friend 'no I totally get what you're going through as a trans woman, my best friend is a gay man' right after spouting 10 minutes of transphobia

why is it treated as anathema to Pride to challenge racism, homophobia, transphobia, misogyny and classism when it makes a space uncomfortable because ~this is meant to be an inclusive celebration don't sow division they have as much right to be here as anyone~ but the leather daddies and the kinksters and the celebrations of queer sexuality and the radical liberationist anti-capitalist politics that are literally at the foundation of Pride are unacceptable in case they make someone uncomfortable?

basically well before we try to scrub the kink off pride and present a Nice Sanitised Family Fun Day Out version of Pride probably we should focus on kicking out the people who don't just make Pride uncomfortable but actively work to make the world worse for queer people. get TERFs out of Pride get megacorporations out of Pride get cops out of Pride get pinkwashing politicians out of Pride and then maybe we can talk about your beef with Gay People Expressing Sexuality.

and I'm not even trying to deny that there are valid reasons to be uncomfortable with the amount of sexual content. but the fact that some people have picked Queer Displays Of Sexuality as the core problem with Pride not like. cops with guns or banners for fucking arms companies and alcohol monopolies and megacorporations leading the march or ticketed entry gates keeping out the riffraff or the exclusion of radical queer voices or the marketing of Pride as a Fun Day Out For Heterosexual Cis Party People or the way it's used to put a coat of rainbow paint over systemic dehumanisation of queer people in other areas of life is. a fucking joke. shut up. sorry. I was trying not to be too confrontational but for real get some perspective.
