An illustration from my Enjoltaire fic Drink to Forget, which I've just finished writing yesterday! You can go read it in its complete state. This is a scene from chapter five where they're sitting under the wisteria (my favorite flower) that made me happy to imagine so I hope you like it too.

today i am thinking about the eight bullets that kill enjolras, and how i always see people saying they represent his eight friends to die at the barricade, but when i first read his death what came to my mind was the eight men to escape the barricade alive: valjean, marius, javert, and the five men who are given the national guard uniforms. i think of those eight bullets being meant for those eight men, and enjolras taking them all. he did not change the world in the way he meant, but he changed the world for eight men, and that has to be enough.

The fact that I cannot understand Chinese at all, and this was one of the few terminologies I could read (since Japanese uses the same characters) made me accidentally laugh out loud.

It was a jumpscare of comprehension.

I will say, this is obviously my first experiencing watching a Peking Opera, so I'm just not used to the style of writing yet. I really love it though!! I can't believe this artistic, fun, acrobatic way of theatre was hidden away from me 😭😭
