The spin-off everyone wants of stobin working different jobs but make it through all the canon. MAKE THEM BE FRIENDS EARLIER.
I love platonic soulmates stobin and them becoming friends before canon??? Yes please. Please give those two more years of happines and friendship and being stupid teenagers together.
Maybe not exactly friends friends at the beggining, yk, like the dynamic they had in scoops before everything went cataplum-boom-bla-aaaaaa. And bond like stray cats with interwined souls.
They working at Benny's dinner in the first season, being the ones to found El, freaking out and bickering the whole time about what to do because that’s a child, that’s almost 100% an abused and probably now homeless child, wtf.
I know Benny barely appeared like 10 minutes in screen MAX (and i'm being generous) but i love that man and in this universe he survives thanks to those one-braincell-sharing dinguses.
They being the ones to take care of El and protect her, they know they should call cps but hey, when they tried to call she found out and throw the phone with her mind so they supposed that isn't an option now.
Robin bringing a photo of Will by accident, Jonathan and Joyce sharing it with everybody just in case and El going "i know where he is" So they suppose are going to search for a missing kid now, ig.
They bumping into the Party and everything snowballing from there.
Steve still ends up hitting a demogorgon with a nailbat btw. And losing their jobs. How? Idk, probably they quit because the feds are keeping a close eye on them and they don't want to make trouble for Benny, who knows. (The real reason is that Robin accidentally broke the machine to make milkshakes and is too afraid to tell Benny so they run off before someone figures it out)
Then they went to get a job at the Hawk, i know that in Rebel Robin it said she worked there for a while but i'm not sure when or in what so let's just say it was at this time.
You can think in a lot of little things they would get up to, like annoying couples in the middle of make up sessions, eating the pop corns that nobody bought at the end of their shifts, snuck in movies that nobody went to see when they have slow shifts and laugh out loud for how bad they are, etc.
Then the second season happens and the mall is open. The Hawk has to fire people because there’s not enough money and ended up being Steve and Robin, who had guess.
Now everyone knows what happen after that, scoops ahoy and family video.
Just let them be silly in different jobs together.
thinking about steve and eddie having a wedding even tho it's not legal, but bcs steve likes parties and he also likes being a bitch, and eddie wants him to get the chance to be a bridezilla as some weird form of enrichment. also because they love each other and whatever, but mostly so eddie gets to watch steve be a bitch to anyone pretentious enough to deserve it
AU where after a fight with his dad, Steve’s entire life implodes when he’s told that Hopper is his real father.
This just wrecks Steve. He knows that his dad is disappointed in him and that he has to work harder to make him proud, but to find out that it was impossible? That the reason it felt like his dad hated him was because he did? And - and Hopper hates him too?
It never occurs to Steve that maybe Hopper didn’t know. All he can think about is how easy it was for Hopper to adopt El, so it’s not that he didn’t want kids. He just didn’t want Steve in his life.
He doesn’t tell anyone about it for a long time - not even Robin - and then one day blurts it out. To Callahan.
Callahan says, “You know, Hopper is like a father-figure to me so-“
“Hopper is my father.”
And then Steve just breaks down in tears and Callahan thinks to himself that there was probably a better way to start off telling this kid to stop trespassing.
I– just have this little escene of Hero Steve that i wrote.
—
He must have seen it coming, honestly, with all the crazy things that had happened in his life, what's one more. At least he had been alone at the time.
Steve lets out a chuckle while remembering what he had done for the last six years, where he had been. The weight of the glass in his hand feels lighter than normal. A lot of things feel lighter– weaker– than normal. He drinks the last shot and lands the glass with a light thud on the counter.
The bartender has been eyeing Steve for a while, he knows why, there’s a photo with his face on full display with bold barely red letters spelling ‘MISSING’ just down the counter (all wrinkled paper and pale colours). He’s changed, all rough edges, muscle and a bunch of scars that even the best healing spell couldn't make them disappear. But. He still has those droopy eyes, square jaw and moles scattered all around his skin. He is still Steve Harrington.
clink, clink
The bell over the door sounds, someone comes in, not the person of his rag tag group he expected but the one he’s glad will be the first. He doesn’t even turn around, his lips curl up and god, it's been years since he has seen anyone from The Party, his original party. He missed them like burning fire in his veins, his will to live and determination to come back home.
Home. He is back home.
He hears Hopper come closer as he finally turns around with a bright but calm smile.
“Harrington?”
“The one and only.”
——
Hopper was having a boring day, it was not bad, boring means nothing new, boring means nothing dangerous, boring means safety. So when a call from the bartender of the ‘Hideaway’ comes, talking about being able to identify a person that just came in as the same as the one a very old missing flyer he had, he knew something was about to happen.
And something did happen. Because the face looking at him is the one of Steve Harrington, the same face that haunts him in his nightmares like another face of one of his children that he couldn't protect.
He wasn't expecting anything, maybe a false alarm, but when the man sitting in the bar stools turned around to face him, a cocky smile plastered on his lips and a prideful voice responding “The one and only” when Hopper blurted out his last name? Yeah, there’s no denying the fact that the teenager he lost six years ago has come back.
The confidence that once was borderline egocentric everytime he went to stop one of Harrington’s parties and has become less while being around the kids has now settled down in Steve's skin in a way that exude trust in himself, acknowledge of one's worth and– excuse the redundancy– confidence.
The person in front of Hopper is no longer a teenager but a man, a man who has more scars than the Upside Down left him before disappearing, with longer hair and muscles that his clothes can't hide, a firm posture like a soldier ready to attack even in his leisure time and with what looks like a sword hanging at the side of his waist.
“Harrington… Steve, where have you been, kid?” He asks instead of all the parts of his brain screaming alarm bells that this is probably a trap, that Vecna has come back and now he's the next victim. He pushes all those thoughts down because that's his son! Dammit.
No matter how much that teenager has changed, he knows his kid and that person is his. God dammit. He’ll fight anyone who says otherwise.
The man– Steve– gives him a side looped smile and signals the bartender that he's done. “You’ll not believe me if I tell you”, he huffs.
“Really, kid?” Hopper arches an eyebrow.
“Really, the UD will sound like a joke compared with all the shit that happened."
Hopper notes how Steve doesn't call him out with the nickname, kid. Steve doesn't feel like the man he looks, at least to Hopper. He must be 24 by now, still too young compared to and old man like Jim.
Hopper doesn't comment on it either.
“But here is no place to talk about it, shall we go?” Steve stands up and stretches his back, the bartender gives him the bill with an odd look between the two men.
Steve looks back at Hopper with the most eat shitting grin he can do.
If Hopper didn't think he was Steve before, he definitely thinks that now.
With a huff and mild shake of his head, he puts down a few dollars, checking that they're enough before thanking the bartender and guiding Steve to his car.
“I might be rich back in Eloise but I don't think they would have accepted a bunch of golden coins as a good way to pay in here,” Steve enters the car happier than normal and with an expression of pure delight.
“What the hell is Eloise and why would you pay with golden coins?”
“A kingdom from another world," Steve says like it's common sense, the little shit, he really hasn't changed that much.
"I just came back from a six-year-long real life DnD campaign, Hop, give me some slack.” Never mind. That sounds like it would change a person.
“What the fuck, kid.”
“Language.”
Hopper looks back at Steve in total bewilderment while he just laughs. Jim is too old for this shit. He starts the car and drives away.
I just noticed that in this clip Steve picks up the receiver with his right hand, tosses it to his left… and then passes it back to his right to clock the guy
I just know that if Steve had a sword or something he would be doing so much extra fancy twirly shit
Steve glances up to ask Eddie where he wants the box in his arms when his eye catches on something, frankly absurd, and he stops in his tracks.
Eddie has taken off his jacket, which was stupid to have on to begin with, and underneath is wearing a sleeveless tank top, the bottom of which is about three inches shorter than anything Steve has seen him in.
"What the fuck?"
Eddie glances up to see him staring. "What?"
Instead of answering, Steve sets the box down and marches over to him. He grabs the bottom of Eddie's shirt and lifts it up to his armpits.
"What is happening?" Eddie asks while trying to squirm out of Steve's reach.
"Are you hot? When the fuck did this happen? You have abs, Eddie. How long have you been hot under that stupid jacket?"
"What?!" He squirms some more, this time away from Steve's poking fingers.
"You have pecs. What is happening in the universe? You're supposed to be all noodle arms and Doritos gut. This isn't right."
Eddie finally manages to get away, yanking his shirt back down and then pointing a 'stay back' finger in Steve's face. "Hey, man, I'm not a piece of meat!"
"Piece of beefcake, apparently," Steve mutters.
Eddie chokes. "What do you care? You can't be jealous, you're as hot as you've ever been."
Why does Steve care? Thwarted expectations? It can't just be that, he's practically vibrating in place, skin all hyper aware of itself.
"You think I'm hot?" He asks instead of giving Eddie an answer he doesn't have.
He scoffs.
"What's that supposed to mean?" Steve puts both hands on his hips.
"It means I'm not getting reeled in by your fishing. Can we finish moving this shit now?"
Steve stares some more. His arms aren't as big as Steve's, but the way his bicep moves under his skin as he bends to lift the box Steve dropped, it's....uh...
Uh oh.
Eddie is hot, stamps itself into the fabric of Steve's universe.
Steve turns and marches back outside. "Robin!!!!"
Eddie walked into Steve’s house to find the kids crowded around the entrance to the living room. He looked in to find Robin and Steve hanging upside down on the couch, looking depressed.
Eddie: What's going on?
Dustin: They got rejected by a cult today.
Robin: And the thing is, we didn't know it was a cult.
Steve: And when we did figure it out, we didn't want to join, but suddenly, they wanted us!
Robin: And now they don't!
Steve: What the hell does "too perfect" even mean?!
Max: Why are you upset they rejected you?! They kidnapped you!
Robin: And it's nice to feel wanted sometimes, Maxine!
Eddie: Okay, where the hell is this place?
An hour later, Eddie stormed back into the house, brushed past the kids, and threw himself down next to Robin.
Robin: You get rejected, too?
Eddie: They just looked me up and down and shook their heads! Then, when I demanded answers, they threw me out! What the hell kind of cult is this?
Steve: It's a rude cult.
A few minutes later, Hopper came to pick up Will and El.
Hopper: *looking into the living room* What the hell happened?
Will: Go easy on them, dad. They got rejected by an entire cult today.
Hopper: What?!
Hi, I'm obsessed with the Eddie Munson Tiktok Saga. I don't know if you ever specifically said what kind of dog Ozzy is, but in my mind I always picture him as a corgi because they give epic side-eye, which I suspect is a necessary skill for Steve's dog.
I’ve always kept Ozzy’s breed vague so he can be whatever dog you’re thinking of.
The only comment I think I’ve ever made that would limit what Ozzy would look like is that Steve didn’t initially want a dog because a dark creature on all fours out of the corner of your eye could look a lot like a demo-dog.
So, Oz is probably a lighter-colored dog but I still say whatever dog you have in mind is Ozzy.
Though I do know a Corgi irl and I can see Steve doing something reckless and Ozzy looking at him like:
Runner / End Of Beginning
Steve has never seen his father as upset, as furious, as he was when he got home with his final exam results. He'd known- suspected- that his father would flip when his results came in...
His father got angry at small things. Hearing that he'd had a party while they were away, that a girl went missing at that party, had been the closest Steve thought he'd ever get to recieving a beating.
But when he came home with his grades... when his father realized that his son, his supposed prodigy, barely passed...
Steve has never ran as fast as he currently is.
As soon as he'd seen an openning, a clear line to the door, he'd stumbled to his feet and bolted. He'd picked a random direction and ran. He isn't going to stop running until he physically has to stop, knowing that his father is most likely in his car, trying to find him.
He can't stop. He has to keep running.
Eventually, he has to pause. He has to catch his breath.
He leans against a trailer, panting. He prays that no one thinks to look outside and spot him. He prays that no one will-
"Harrington?"
"Fuck." He hisses, squinting up at- "Munson?"
"What the fuck happened to you?" He says, eyes widenning when he finally gets a look at his face. "Second round with Hargrove, or what?"
"Nothing happened, I'm fine."
Munson eyes him for a moment, frowning. "Is someone after you?"
"What do you care?" Steve heaves a deep breath, forcing himself to stand up straight. He brings his knees up in a few knee highs, gearing up for another sprint.
"Ugh. Just- you can come into my trailer," Munson says, sounding as though Steve is forcing him to make the suggestion. "No one would think to look for you there. You can, like... I don't know. Drink some water? You jocks do that, right?"
"Wh- I don't need your help!"
"I'm not waiting for you all day, come on, let's go!" He makes a wide, exaggerated gesture for Steve to follow.
"You just assume I'm gonna follow?"
"Yeah."
He sounds so confident, so sure, that Steve can't think to do anything other thank blink and say, "fuck it, yeah, alright."
Steve is a little surprised at how much space Eddies trailer has. It's cramped, but in a nice way- the way a home gets when people actually live in it. When the people inside are actually happy and chase those joys.
Munson does get him a glass of water, mumbling at him to "sit anywhere", before flopping onto the sofa himself. He turns the TV on, focusing on that.
"Thanks," Steve eventually mutters, awkwardly sitting down.
"Wanna talk about it?"
"Nothing to talk about."
"Sure."
"There isn't," he insists, despite how casual and accepting Munson is acting. "It's my fault, anyway. I deserved it."
"Did you?" Munson turns to him, eyebrow raised. "All us freaks and losers can talk about these days is your change of heart. King of Hawkins High turned lame boytoy."
"Thanks, that makes me feel so much better," Steve sneers.
"Even Jeff thinks you're alright now," he barrels on. "Said he bumped into you, pretty hard, knocked all your shit down, and you apologized. Said his coffee ended up on an essay, or something. Thought he was about to get his ass kicked and you just..."
He waves his hand at him, as though that's explination enough.
Steve doesn't know a Jeff, but he's pretty sure he knows who Munson is talking about, and; "I wasn't looking where I was going. If anything, we were both at fault."
"See?" Munson waves his hand at him again, a little more pointed. "Don't doubt you've got a long way to go, but you're not half-bad. You didn't deserve whatever the fuck happened to your face."
"Whatever."
They fall quiet, both pretending to watch whatever is on the TV. Steve is so zoned out that, when someone clears their throat, he flinchs.
"Sorry to startle you boys," the man chuckles. But the humor quickly teeters out, once he gets a good look at Steve. "You alright, kid?"
"I'm fine."
"He's not," Munson grins wide when Steve glares at him.
"Staying the night?" The man continues, only looking at Eddie now.
"If I can convince him," Munson shrugs.
"I can't stay the night," Steve tries.
"Good," the man nods, as though Steve hadn't said anything. "I'll start making us all some dinner." He finally looks to Steve. "You got any allergies?"
"I can't stay," Steve tries again, insisting.
"No," Munson answers for him. "No problems with meat either."
The man gives Munson a thumbs up, heading through to the kitchen.
"I can't stay," Steve repeats, turning to Munson. "Really. I have to go back or... I have to go back."
"What will happen if you don't go back?"
Steve grimaces. "Nothing. Just- I can't stay here."
"Why not? They gonna hit me too?"
"You know what, Munson? Yeah, probably. And your- your dad?"
"Uncle," Munson snorts, standing, stretching. "No one messes with us though. We're too scary." He wiggles his fingers in Steves face as he passes by. "And call me Eddie."
"Why?"
"It's my name."
Steve awkwardly follows him to the kitchen, hovering a good distance from the two of them, watch how they move around each other with so much comfort and ease. It makes something in Steves chest ache.
"Oh, hey, you like football right?" Eddie asks, pointing to him.
"Uh, yeah, kinda. Not enough to have, like, a team." Steve shrugs.
Wayne turns around slowly, eyebrows raised. "You don't got a team?"
Talking football with Wayne is so easy that, until he's halfway through the dinner he cooked, Steve doesn't notice how fast the time is going. He can't bring himself to be bothered though. It's too nice.
Plus, Eddie is almost bouncing with joy at how well Steve and Wayne are getting along.
Someone starts banging on the door, loud and aggressive, as they make their way to the kitchen.
"Alright!" Wayne calls, rolling his eyes. "Hold your horses."
Steves stomach drops when the door opens and his father is on the other side. He smiles at Steve, sickly sweet and dangerously calm.
"Oh, thank God," he sighs. "Steve, your mother and I have been looking all over for you. When you didn't get home-"
Wayne blocks his way when he tries to step inside. "Who are you?"
"Robert Harrington," Steves dad sniffs, leaning back so he can physically look down at Wayne. "I'm here for my son."
"He ain't here."
Robert Harrington splutters, face tinting red with anger and frustration. He points to Steve, voice raising as he says, "he's right there! And he's coming with me."
Wayne turns, slow and casual. "Huh. That's odd. Don't see him."
"Steve," he snaps his fingers at Steve, like he's a dog. "Come on. We're going home."
Eddie shifts so he's standing slightly in front of him.
It's enough reassurance for him to finally snap back; "I'm not going anywhere with you."
"Steven-"
"Get off my property," Wayne snaps.
His father glares at them, waiting, as though he expects them to back down. When he doesn't, he snarls; "this is kidnapping."
"He's 18," Eddie drawls.
Grumbling, he stomps off.
"Asshole," Wayne mutters. He shuts and locks the door, sliding on the chain too.
Steve has to sit down, with how much his legs are shaking.
"You alright?" Eddie asks, hesitantly sitting beside him.
"Yeah," Steve says. He's surprised to find he means it. "Yeah, I'm good."
"You can stay here, long as you need," Wayne offers. "You'll have to bunk with Eds though. Not a lot of room."
"Why can't he use the sofa when you're-"
"Nope," Wayne cuts him off. There's a glint of mischief in his eyes that has Steve squinting in suspicion. "And you'll need those cuts looking at. Eddie, why don't you go with him. Medkits in the bathroom."
Steve goes ahead when Eddie points the way to the bathroom.
Eddie tries to give Wayne a warning look but he's unbothered and, with Steves back turned, he gives Eddie an encouraging wink.
Steve, who made a move on Eddie right after they first met and Eddie, having known Steve's reputation way longer than he knows Steve gets a little cold feet, gets scared he's going to be just a fun little adventure before Harrington goes on to marry a girl his parents approve of.
And even then, he knows he won't survive Steve Harrington if Steve decides he doesn't want Eddie anymore. Can't handle things between them being just casual, so when Steve makes a move, Eddie turns him down. Gently.
He doesn't say it's because he doesn't think Steve will stick to his newly discovered bisexuality. Doesn't explain to him that he thinks maybe being around Buckley and himself is making Steve a little confused.
Just says they are better off friends. And for a while, they stay friends. The best of friends.
Steve is sad, at first. He's always looking at Eddie with puppy eyes that are hard to resist, but eventually, he starts moving on.
He starts going on dates again. And Eddie doesn't feel so shitty anymore. Steve's going to find a nice girl to marry and they are going to be friends forever. All is right in the world.
Except.
Except Steve comes to weekly dinner one night with his arms wrapped around a guy. And the guy... he looks a hell lot like Eddie.
Long hair, though his is knotted on the top of his head. Eyeliner and black clothes
Chains and a big Metallica tattoo peeking out from his t-shirt. It's impossible not to notice the resemblance, but Steve pretends not to.
But Eddie can't unsee it. And as Steve's relationship evolves, so does Eddie's feeling that he has made a big, big mistake.
Or; Steve starts to date a metalhead and Eddie is miserable because he doesn't understand why not him.
