──── ୨୧ ────

riki didn’t know why he was still standing at the edge of her apartment complex, hands shoved deep into his pockets, heart hammering like a drum in his chest.

He had walked away, hadn’t he?

He had left.

He had told himself that was it.

But now, with every step he took away from her, he realized just how wrong he was.

He couldn’t forget her.

He couldn’t stop thinking about the way she felt against him, how she tasted, how the world had melted away the second their lips collided.

He was hungry for her.

His body craved her, ached for her. And he couldn’t escape the gnawing feeling that corrupted him

y/n had just finished dealing with errands, her body tired and sore, when she heard the knock at her door. It was a familiar sound, but this time it made her heart skip a beat.

She stood still for a moment, unsure, her mind racing. She hadn’t expected him. Not now. Not after everything.

But the knock came again, more urgent this time.

Slowly, she moved toward the door, her hand resting on the doorknob. She hesitated for a moment, her breath catching. Was she ready for this? Was she ready to face him after everything they’d been through?

She exhaled shakily, steeling herself.

With a deep breath, she opened the door.

riki stood there, his eyes searching hers. There was no anger in them, no bitterness—just something raw, something he couldn’t hide. His face softened when their eyes met, but neither of them said anything at first.

y/n could see the conflict in his gaze. The same ache she had felt. And in that moment, something inside her broke, the walls she had carefully built around her heart cracking just enough to let him in.

She stepped back, silently inviting him in. She didn’t need to say anything. The door was open, and so was she.

riki took a hesitant step forward, the weight of his own emotions making each movement feel like a thousand pound burden. He crossed the threshold, and for a moment, neither of them spoke.

It was as if the simple act of being in the same space again had already begun to fill the gaps that had been left in their lives.

Without a word, y/n closed the door behind him. They stood there for a beat, the air between them thick with unspoken thoughts but y/n could feel the familiar pull toward him, the one that had never really disappeared.

The moment stretched, thick with tension, as riki’s lips brushed against y/n’s skin. Every kiss, every touch, every move made his body ache for more

Her hands slid up his chest, fingers trembling as she gripped his shirt, tugging it off with desperate urgency. His heart pounded against his ribcage as he followed suit, pulling her shirt over her head, revealing the bare skin he’d missed more than he could admit.

He could feel her pulse racing beneath his fingertips, just like his own. They were moving in sync, a rhythm they had never lost, even after the distance, even after the time apart.

y/n’s eyes locked with his—dark, heated, full of need—and in that instant, riki knew there was no turning back. They were both too far gone to stop.

“Tell me you still want me,” y/n whispered, her voice a breathless plea.

riki didn’t think twice. He crashed his lips against hers, his hands roaming down her body as if he were memorizing the feel of her.

“More than anything,” he muttered between kisses. His voice was thick, heavy with desire. “I never stopped wanting you.”

y/n’s hands slid down his back, pulling him even closer, if that was possible. Her body pressed against his, and riki could feel every curve of her, every inch of her.

He couldn’t breathe. Couldn’t think.

All he could do was feel.

Her lips parted for him, and he took the invitation, deepening the kiss, pushing her against the bed. He could hear the sound of her breath hitching, feel the way she arched against him, desperate for more.

“Riki…” Her voice trembled, fingers now working at the waistband of his pants.

He groaned, pulling away just long enough to look at her. The hunger in her eyes mirrored his own, and for a split second, he almost lost himself in it.

“y/n…” His voice was strained, barely a whisper. “Are you sure?”

Her answer came in the form of a fierce kiss, one that stole his breath and made his mind spin. She didn’t pull away. Didn’t hesitate. She wanted him.

And that was all the confirmation he needed.

He kissed her again, his hands trailing down her sides, urging her to move with him. Every inch of her body was like fire, like something he could never extinguish, something he would never be able to walk away from again.

They didn’t slow down. Didn’t stop. It was like they were racing against time, against their own resolve, against whatever might come next.

The world outside didn’t exist.

There was only y/n.

And there was only riki.

And they were completely, utterly lost in each other.

࿐ ࿔:・゚Pairing: idolbf!riki x f!reader

࿐ ࿔:・゚Genre: angst

──── ୨୧ ────

It’s late. The lights from the concert stage have long faded, leaving only the quiet hum of the city beneath the hotel room. Y/n sits by the window, watching the lights flicker below. The glass feels cold against her fingertips, a contrast to the warmth that used to exist between her and riki. But that warmth has been fading—slowly at first, then all at once, like the last ember of a fire dying out.

The door clicks open behind her. She doesn’t turn around. She doesn’t have to. She knows it’s him.

Riki steps inside, still in his stage clothes, his hair a little messy from the performance, but there’s no exhaustion in his posture—only distance. His presence doesn’t fill the room the way it used to. If anything, it makes it feel smaller, suffocating.

y/n swallows the lump in her throat and stands, her heart already racing. “Riki,” she says softly, trying to keep her voice steady. “Are you okay?”

He doesn’t answer right away. He just exhales sharply, dragging a hand through his hair before tossing his bag onto the bed with more force than necessary. The silence stretches between them, thick and unbearable.

And then, without even looking at her, he says, “We need to talk.”

The words hit like a slap. Y/n’s stomach twists painfully, but she forces herself to nod. “Okay,” she whispers. “Then talk.”

Riki finally meets her gaze, and for the first time in weeks, she realizes how far away he already is. There’s something cold in his expression—indifference, maybe, or something even worse.

“I can’t do this anymore,” he says bluntly. “Us.”

y/n flinches. It’s not what he’s saying, it’s how he’s saying it. Detached. Like she’s a problem he’s finally found the courage to get rid of.

“What?” Her voice cracks, but she doesn’t care. “You can’t just—riki, where is this coming from?”

His jaw clenches. He looks away, shaking his head. “Don’t act like you didn’t see this coming. You had to have felt it, too.”

She takes a step forward, desperate, grasping at something—anything. “Felt what? That you’ve been ignoring me? That you’ve been pushing me away?” She exhales shakily. “I thought we were just going through a rough patch. I thought you just needed time.”

Riki scoffs, and the sound cuts through her like a knife. “Time?” He lets out a bitter laugh, finally meeting her eyes again. “Y/n, I’ve been trying. I really have. But I just… I don’t feel the same way anymore.”

The room spins.

No. No, he’s lying. He has to be.

Her hands tremble as she shakes her head. “You don’t mean that.”

“Yeah,” he breathes. “I do.”

The finality in his tone makes her knees go weak.

She lets out a shuddering breath, forcing herself to stand her ground. “So that’s it? You’re just done? Just like that?”

Riki shrugs, like it doesn’t even matter. Like she doesn’t even matter. “It’s not working anymore.”

Y/n stares at him, trying to find something—anything—that resembles the boy she fell in love with. But she can’t. He’s already gone.

“You’re a coward,” she whispers, her voice thick with tears. “You don’t get to stand here and act like I’m the problem. You’re the one who gave up.”

riki’s expression hardens, his gaze sharp. “Maybe I did,” he says coldly. “And maybe you should, too.”

The words steal the air from her lungs.

She bites her lip to stop the sob from escaping, blinking rapidly to clear her vision. But it’s useless. She’s breaking, and he’s just standing there, watching it happen.

Y/n inhales shakily, straightening her posture even though her heart is in pieces. “I hope you realize what you’re throwing away,” she murmurs. “I hope you regret this.”

Riki doesn’t flinch. He doesn’t even blink. “I won’t.”

And that’s what finally makes her stop fighting.

She nods slowly, taking a step back. “Okay,” she whispers. “Then I won’t, either.”

She turns before he can see her cry. Before she can change her mind.

She doesn’t slam the door when she leaves. She doesn’t say goodbye.

She just walks away.

And this time, he doesn’t stop her.

PRETTY BOY. 〜Ni-ki

PRETTY BOY. 〜Ni-ki
PRETTY BOY. 〜Ni-ki
PRETTY BOY. 〜Ni-ki

Pairing: bsf!Ni-ki x fem!reader Summary: What starts as a lazy afternoon and a casual offer to do Ni-ki’s makeup quickly turns into something much more intimate. Between teasing remarks, lingering touches, and a tension that refuses to be ignored, your flirty friendship takes a turn neither of you can pretend is just playful anymore. Word count: 1.3k A/n: Fluff, suggestive??? But this is all quite new to me so I'm keeping it a little PG- but I hope we enjoy it. Now playing: Pretty Boy By P1Harmony

---------------------------------------------------------˚✿🎀

You blink at the last sentence of your book, the words blurring before you shut it with a soft thud. The ending was decent. Not world-shattering, but satisfying. Your eyes wander, seeking something else to entertain you. Anything, really.

Afternoon light streams through the window, spilling over tangled sheets and soft pillows. The room is wrapped in a calm kind of quiet. It's the kind of silence that leaves your fingers itching for something to do.

Ni-ki is half-reclined against the headboard, legs stretched out, phone resting in one hand as his thumb scrolls steadily. His hair falls a little messy over his forehead, and his lashes are so unfairly long they cast shadows on his cheeks.

His expression shifts now and then- amused, unimpressed, soft. You wonder what he’s watching, but more than that, you wonder how someone can look that good doing absolutely nothing.

You roll onto your side, elbow propping up your head. “You’re such a Pretty Boy, you know?”

He doesn’t look up. “Thanks for the update.”

“No, seriously. Like, it’s criminal. Your face is kind of stupidly symmetrical.”

He pauses mid-scroll, glancing sideways at you with one brow arched. “You good over there?”

You ignore the teasing in his voice and sit up; legs folded under you. “Let me do your makeup.”

Ni-ki actually laughs — short, amused, and a little disbelieving. “What?”

“I’m bored,” you say with a shrug. “You’re just lying there being so photogenic. Let me do something productive with it.”

He tilts his head, considering it. “You want to play with my face for fun?”

“Yes. Please.”

There’s a pause where he looks you over like he’s weighing the risk versus reward, then finally sighs and tosses his phone onto the nightstand. “Fine. But if I look like a clown, I’m ending our friendship.”

“You wouldn’t dare.”

“Try me.”

You climb off the bed, digging into your drawer where you keep your little stash — some palettes, a couple brushes, a tinted gloss or two. You’re not a professional, but you know how to make things sparkle.

When you turn back, he’s shifted- now sitting upright with his back against the headboard, arms relaxed at his sides. The image alone is enough to make your stomach flutter a bit. His sleeves are pushed up, exposing his forearms. His legs are slightly spread, leaving just enough space between his thighs to make your breath catch.

You stand beside him and lean forward with a brush in hand, but the angle is awkward. Even standing, his height makes it hard to reach both sides of his face without hovering over him weirdly.

You purse your lips in frustration.

He notices, obviously. “Problem?”

“This is an awkward angle,” you grumble.

Then, without giving you a moment to protest, he grabs your waist and gently lifts you, guiding you to straddle his lap like it’s the most natural thing in the world.

Your heart practically leaps out of your chest.

“Better reach?” he asks, like he didn’t just set your entire nervous system on fire.

“Um.” You clear your throat. “Yeah. Thanks.”

His hands linger at your hips before settling on your waist. You try to focus- seriously, you do- but he’s warm beneath you, and his face is now inches from yours. Your mind keeps drifting, caught on the way his hands rest so easily on you, sending a flutter of butterflies through your stomach.

His gaze drops from your eyes to your mouth, then back again. His thumbs brush the hem of your shirt- not pulling you in, not pushing you away. Just there. Steady. Intentional.

You reach for the small palette of blush, trying not to let it show — but your hand trembles slightly as you apply it, giving your nervousness away.

The quiet between you isn’t awkward; it’s charged, humming with something unspoken. His head tilts slightly as you work, a small, unconscious movement that makes your fingers brush his cheek. His skin is warm there, too. Warmer, maybe. Or maybe it’s just you.

Then you feel it.

Ni-ki shifts beneath you- not much; just enough for his hands to tighten ever so slightly at your waist, and just enough for you to feel him growing harder beneath you. Grounding. Intentional.

“You sure this isn’t some elaborate plot to make me fall for you?” he asks, voice low and amused.

Your eyes flicker down, and you snort. “If it were, it’s working remarkably well.”

His lips quirk. “So, you are trying.”

You lean in again. “I didn’t say that.”

He stays still, but you can feel the shift in the air — like something between you has tilted. Just slightly. Just enough to matter.

The pad of your thumb rests lightly on his jaw as you blend the finishing touches .

You lean back to admire your work.

“Done!” you announce, triumphant, reaching over to grab your pink camera. “Say cheese…”

He complies, the smile small and obedient — but there’s something distracted in his eyes. Like he’s waiting for a reaction you never gave.

You snap a few photos, lingering longer than you need to. And even though the makeup’s finished, you don’t move off of him.

“I mean,” he murmurs after a beat, “if this is a plot... you’re dangerously good at it.”

You don’t answer. Not out loud. You don’t have to.

Your eyes stay on the screen, casually surveying the photos you just took, but your lips curve up at the corners — just enough to give you away.

His gaze doesn’t waver. It hasn’t left your face once.

You should move. Say something clever. Make a joke to cut through the heat coiling in your stomach. But you don’t. Can’t. Because he’s looking at you like you’ve already crossed a line. Like he’s just waiting for you to realize it.

You finally lock eyes. You forget to breathe. You don’t even blink.

He leans in, slow enough to give you time to stop him. But you don’t. You lean in too- heart racing, mouth parted- until there’s nothing left between you.

And then he kisses you.

It’s neither soft nor gentle. Not the least bit hesitant as his lips crash into yours.

It’s a breaking point.

Warm and breathless, his mouth finds yours like he’s been holding back for far too long. His hands slip from your hips to your waist, fingers pressing just enough to keep you there, right there, like he’s worried you’ll vanish if he doesn’t.

You kiss him back, instinctively, desperately- fingers threading through the hair at the nape of his neck, pulling him closer until your chest brushes his.

He groans softly into your mouth, the sound low and wrecked, and it sets your nerves alight.

His hands roam- up your back, over your ribs, skimming just beneath your bra strap. Your thighs tighten around his waist, the tension between you pulled taut like a wire.

You gasp into the kiss as he gently moves your hips against his, making your whole body heat up- and he uses the moment to deepen the kiss, his tongue brushing yours in a way that makes your head spin.

Every part of you is hyperaware; of the way his body fits against yours, of the heat pooled low in your belly, of the ache blooming at your core.

This isn’t casual anymore.

It’s messy and hungry.

When you finally pull back, it’s not because you want to, it’s because you need to breathe.

Your forehead rests against his, your breaths coming hard and uneven.

His eyes flutter open, dark and glassy, a smile curling lazily at his lips.

“Guess I should let you do my makeup more often,” he says, voice rough and low.

You laugh — shaky, breathless. “Shut up.”

But you’re still holding him like you don’t plan on going anywhere.

And judging by the look in his eyes, he’s not going anywhere either.

I fear this may be my best one yet... Lmk if i should make a part 2!!! I should probably go revise now, though :( Thanks for making it to the end, -EL (masterlist)

riki had never known silence could be this loud.

The kind that rings in your ears. Sits heavy on your chest. Makes you realize just how fucking empty everything feels without the person you love.

And y/n?

She had been his silence for a month now.

No texts. No calls. No second chances.

And the worst part? He knew he had no one to blame but himself.

y/n never thought she’d get over riki.

She thought the ache of missing him would sit in her chest forever, that the ghost of his touch would always linger on her skin.

But then, one day, she woke up, and it didn’t hurt as much.

And that terrified her.

Because it meant she was finally letting go.

And deep down, she didn’t want to.

She just needed a reason to hold on.

But riki never knew how to give her one.

So she forced herself to move on.

Or at least, she tried.

riki didn’t hesitate this time.

Didn’t overthink. Didn’t run. Didn’t let fear keep him from doing the one thing he should’ve done a long time ago.

He showed up at her door, heart pounding, hands clammy, breath shaky.

And then—

He knocked.

Nothing.

He knocked again.

And this time—

The door opened.

y/n stood there, hair messy from sleep, wearing the hoodie he had left at her place months ago.

And fuck, he had never missed someone more.

She blinked at him, slow and unreadable. “riki?”

His throat tightened. “Hey.”

A beat of silence.

Then she exhaled, crossing her arms. “What are you doing here?”

He swallowed hard. “I need to talk to you.”

She stared at him for a long moment. Then—

“riki, don’t—”

“No,” he cut in, voice cracking. “Just—please let me say this.”

She went quiet.

So he took a breath and said everything.

“I fucked up, y/n. I know that. I knew that even before you left. But I was scared. Scared of ruining things. Scared of not being enough for you. Scared of what it would mean if I let myself love you.”

Her breath hitched.

But he wasn’t done.

“I told myself it was just fun. That I could keep you close without really having you. That I could kiss you, touch you, want you—without giving you the one thing you always deserved.”

His voice broke.

“And I was so fucking wrong.”

y/n’s eyes were glossy now, lips slightly parted.

But she still didn’t say anything.

So he took a step closer.

“I love you, y/n,” he said, voice raw. “I have for so long, and I don’t want to be scared anymore.”

Silence.

Then—

“You’re an idiot.”

His heart dropped.

But before he could say anything, y/n moved.

Her hands fisted in his hoodie, yanking him down, and suddenly

She was kissing him.

riki froze for half a second before melting into her, his hands cupping her face, his heart hammering against his ribs.

She pulled away first, her forehead resting against his, her fingers still tangled in his hoodie.

“You took way too long to say that,” she muttered.

His lips twitched, breath shaky. “I know.”

She exhaled. “You’re lucky I love you too.”

His eyes burned. “Yeah?” he whispered

She nodded, her voice softer now. “Yeah.”

riki wasn’t sure how long they stood there, breathing the same air, foreheads pressed together, hearts racing.

But it still didn’t feel close enough.

Not after everything. Not after losing her. Not after spending a month trying to pretend he could exist without her.

He wasn’t running anymore.

So he kissed her again.

Slower this time.

Less desperate. More sure

y/n didn’t hesitate, she melted into him, her hands still curled into his hoodie, pulling him closer.

His fingers ghosted over her waist before gripping her hips, anchoring himself to her. His heartbeat was wild, erratic, but for the first time in weeks his mind wasn’t loud.

It was just her.

The way she sighed against his lips, the way her fingers traced the back of his neck, the way she kissed him like she had been waiting for this too.

She pulled away just enough to whisper “I hate you.”

His lips barely brushed against hers as he murmured, “No, you don’t.”

Her hands slipped under his hoodie, nails dragging lightly over his skin. He shivered.

She smirked. “Okay, I wanted to hate you.”

His jaw clenched. “I know.”

Her expression softened. “You really scared me, riki.”

He exhaled sharply, guilt gnawing at his chest. “I know that too.”

She searched his face, eyes flickering between his, as if trying to find something. “And you’re sure?” she asked, voice quieter now. “You’re not just saying this because you miss me?”

He tightened his grip on her waist, shaking his head. “I’m sure.”

She studied him for another long second.

Then—

“Prove it.”

He swallowed hard. “How?”

y/n’s lips parted, but instead of answering, she tugged him inside.

And riki followed without hesitation.

The door barely shut before Naomi was on him again, kissing him harder, more needy this time.

riki groaned against her lips, hands gripping her thighs as he lifted her, letting her legs wrap around his waist.

Her back hit the wall, a soft gasp slipping out, and something about the sound made riki’s head spin.

Because for the first time, this wasn’t about blurred lines or ignoring feelings.

This wasn’t about pretending it was just fun.

This was real. They were real.

And he was never fucking letting her go again.

The next morning, riki woke up before her.

The sun filtered in through the curtains, casting a golden glow on y/ns bare shoulder, she was still sleeping, her face turned into the pillow, her breathing slow and steady.

And riki just looked at her.

Really looked at her.

And for the first time in his life, he wasn’t scared of what came next.

Because he had already made his choice.

And it was her.

Riki wasn’t nervous. He refused to be.

But as he stood outside enhypen’s dorm, hands buried deep in his pockets, he found himself exhaling a little too sharply rolling his shoulders as if to shake off an invisible weight.

It wasn’t that he feared his members wouldn’t like you, that was never a concern. If anything, they would like you too much. You had that effect on people—an effortless warmth, a presence that softened the edges of a room the moment you entered. Everything about you was warm, effortlessly charming, the kind of person who drew others in without even trying. He had seen it firsthand—how people softened in your presence, how even strangers seemed to linger a little longer in conversation with you.

And that’s what worried him

“They’re going to love you” he muttered, more to himself than to you. “A little too much, honestly.”

You turned to him, head tilting slightly, amusement dancing in your eyes. “And why is that a bad thing?”

“Because” he sighed, running a hand through his hair, “I’ll never hear the end of it.”

Before you could reply, the door swung open.

“There he is!” Jake greeted, leaning casually against the doorframe, his gaze flickered to you, and almost immediately, his brows lifted in surprise. His mouth parted slightly before curving into a grin. “and… wow. Hi.”

You offered a polite yet bright smile, shifting slightly closer to your boyfriend. “hi! It’s really nice to meet you.”

Jake hesitated for a beat before turning into the dorm. “Guys, Ni-ki brought someone—”

Riki groaned, dragging a hand down his face. “Oh my god.”

You nudged him playfully, barely suppressing a laugh. “Told you this would be fun.”

Footsteps echoed down the hall as the rest of the members appeared one by one. jungwon approached first, his ever-leaderly composure intact, though curiosity gleamed in his eyes “hi, im jungwon” he said, offering a small smile. “we finally met you!”

“He speaks highly of us, right?” Heeseung quipped, leaning casually against the wall with an amused smirk.

Before Riki could shoot back a sarcastic remark, your soft laughter cut through. “Of course,” you said, nodding. “He talks about you all the time.”

Jay came up eager to see y/n’s presense, his lips curling into an amused smirk. “So, this is the girl who puts up with riki.”

You laughed softly, glancing at riki. “He’s not that bad.”

Sunghoon raised a skeptical eyebrow. “You sure?”

Riki huffed, shooting him a look “I’m right here, you know.”

Before anyone could add another remark, Sunoo stepped forward, eyes briefly scanning your outfit before landing on your nails. “You have really nice style,” he smiled making his eyes twinkle, tilting his head slightly. “The pink suits you.”

Your face lit up. “Thank you! I actually did my nails myself.”

Sunoo’s brows lifted in interest. “Really? That’s impressive. I tried once but got bored halfway through.”

You chuckled. “It takes patience, ki wouldn’t even let me try on him.”

riki scoffed. “Because you picked the brightest pink possible.”

Sunoo smirked. “Yeah… I get why he bailed.”

Laughter rippled through the group as the tension seamlessly melted away. The ease with which you engaged with them, the way you carried the conversation with natural warmth did not go unnoticed. It wasn’t just that they liked you—it was the way you effortlessly blended into the space, as if you’d always been there.

And predictably, the teasing began

“She’s cute” Jay remarked, crossing his arms as he studied riki with a smirk. “Like… really cute.”

Sunghoon nodded in agreement. “I feel like you’re the one who got adopted into her world, not the other way around.”

riki exhaled sharply, shaking his head as his ears tinged a faint shade of red “You guys are the worst.”

His gaze drifted back to you—still bright, still warm, already blending into his world so naturally it was almost hard to believe you hadn’t been there all along.

And suddenly, the teasing didn’t matter so much.

Because, for the first time that day…he realized something

He didn’t just want you to fit into his world.

He wanted to stay in yours, too.

He had spent the entire day dreading this moment, expecting relentless teasing and secondhand embarrassment. And sure, there would be no shortage of that. But watching you laugh, effortlessly fitting in, he felt something settle in his chest—something warm, something right.

Yes, you were his opposite in every way. But somehow, you made everything feel a little lighter. A little warmer.

And despite himself, he knew he wouldn’t have it any other way.

riki didn’t know why he was still standing at the edge of her apartment complex, hands shoved deep into his pockets, heart hammering like a drum in his chest.

Riki didn’t go back inside the party. He couldn’t.

Not when his mind was still stuck on the way y/n had looked at him—like she was done, like she was finally slipping through his fingers, and he had no one to blame but himself.

He stood there on the sidewalk long after she left, staring at the empty street, fists clenched at his sides. His whole body felt tense, like he was seconds away from breaking something.

She wanted him to say it.

To admit it.

But how the fuck was he supposed to say something that terrified him?

riki had never been good at feelings. He didn’t do relationships. Didn’t do commitment. It was easier not to care, to keep things simple.

But y/n wasn’t simple, She never had been.

And now, she was gone.

The thought alone made his stomach sink.

He pulled his phone out, fingers hovering over her contact. He wanted to text her—say something, anything to fix this. But what the fuck was he supposed to say?

“Sorry for being emotionally unavailable?”

“Sorry for acting like you didn’t mean something when you fucking do?”

He scoffed, shoving his phone back into his pocket. He had no right to text her. No right to chase after her when he was the one who pushed her away.

But that didn’t stop him from wanting to.

y/n was still wide awake when her phone buzzed at 2 a.m.

She knew who it was before she even looked.

Riki.

She stared at the screen for a long moment, her chest tightening. She wanted to ignore it. She should ignore it.

But she didn’t.

Riki: Are you home?

Her fingers hovered over the keyboard. Her first instinct was to leave him on read. Let him wonder. Let him feel even an ounce of what she felt tonight.

But she hated that she still cared.

y/n: Why do you care?

Three dots appeared. Then disappeared. Then came back again.

Riki: Just answer the goddamn question.

She exhaled sharply, rolling onto her back, staring up at the ceiling. He wasn’t even trying to be subtle. He wanted to know she was safe, but he couldn’t just say that.

y/n: Yeah, I’m home.

She expected him to leave it at that. Maybe even say good. But instead—

Riki: Open the door.

Her breath caught.

She sat up so fast she got dizzy, eyes widening at the message. He’s here?

y/n hesitated for half a second before throwing the covers off and heading for the door. When she swung it open, Riki was standing there, hood up, hands shoved into his pockets, looking every bit as reckless and conflicted as she felt.

She crossed her arms. “What the hell are you doing here?”

He exhaled, dragging a hand down his face. “I don’t know.”

“Bullshit.”

His jaw clenched. “I just—I couldn’t—” He let out a frustrated sigh. “I didn’t want to leave it like that.”

She laughed dryly. “So what? You’re here to apologize?”

Riki looked at her, and something in his gaze made her stomach twist. “I don’t know what the fuck I’m doing, y/n. I just know I couldn’t sleep knowing you were pissed at me.”

She shook her head, swallowing the lump in her throat. “You don’t get to do this, Riki. You don’t get to act like you care but refuse to actually say it.”

His expression hardened. “You think this is easy for me?”

“Yes!” she snapped. “Because you get to have it both ways. You get to keep me close enough when you need me but push me away when it gets too fucking real.”

He flinched, and for the first time, she saw it—fear. Not anger. Not frustration. Just pure, unfiltered fear in his eyes.

She softened. Just a little.

“Why are you so scared of me?” she asked, voice quieter now.

He looked away, jaw tight. “I’m not.”

“Yes, you are,” she insisted. “You’re scared of us. Of what this could be. And you’d rather destroy it before it even happens than admit that you actually—”

“Don’t,” he cut her off, voice strained.

She sucked in a breath. “Don’t what?”

“Don’t fucking say it.”

“Say what?” she pressed. “That you care?”

He exhaled sharply, like the word itself was suffocating him.

y/n let out a humorless laugh. “You know what’s funny? You’ve already lost me, riki. And you still can’t say it.”

Silence.

Just his heavy breathing, her pounding heart, and the tension so thick she felt like she might choke on it.

She took a slow step back. “Go home, riki.”

His jaw clenched, hands twitching at his sides, like he wanted to reach for her but didn’t know how.

He didn’t move.

Neither did she.

Until finally, she took another step back and shut the door in his face.

And this time, he let her.
