when the dying place is lonely
I think Grayson would make an incredibly good 10 ep TV series but only if they leaned into making it extremely trippy. use Spyral's hypnos technology to mess with the viewer and create a 'who is who' mystery. it's only revealed that Agent 37 is Dick Grayson episode 3 and all of a sudden you're like "why is 37 talking to Bruce Wayne? is Batman in this universe?" 50/50 campy spy action and psychological thriller, culminating in a narrative arc about how Dick is using his funny persona to cope with extreme trauma. themes of perception and persona. aesthetically, it would draw on 70s/80s spy chic, flamboyant colors, music videos. lots of eye candy objectification of Grayson but then make it about his sexual trauma in the finale. strong first person narration where Grayson tells you he's everyone, he's no one, he's whoever you want him to be.
It makes me laugh a lot that whenever references are made to certain qualities of Dick that his other brothers also have, there is no shortage of people who say that "they are giving him qualities of *insert random sibling* to praise Dick".
Dude, I hate to be the one to tell you this, but actually, a lot of those abilities were first Dick's and then they were given to other batkids, shit, even his friends and partners were passed on to his siblings-
In one fic does it say that Dick writes or something related to his stories about Batman and Robin? "That was Jason, not Dick."
Someone makes a HC of Dick drawing? "That's not Dick, the artist is Damian."
Eh... Dick was literally a writer and (if I'm not wrong) even a comic book illustrator in a canonical way, using his adventures with Batman as a reference-
Same when they say that only Jason was the star student... No, Dick was ALWAYS a star student, outstanding and quite dedicated too. The only thing they were not alike in was that Dick was not a total lover of literature, but that does not mean that he did not read, he did, he even read things that were advanced for his age, and he also makes references to readings, showing that, in fact, he also read... He's just more about movement than staying still and reading.
"In YJ they gave Tim's skills to Dick".
The suit maybe, but the abilities? First they were Dick's, then they were given to Tim.
Dick was always an excellent detective, only more intuitive than methodical, but he was always the best behind Batman, at times even on par.
And he's always been a very competent hacker, too. Yes, not on Barbara's level, but he was always pretty good with technology.
"Him not getting crushed by Cass is so ooc".
No? Dick was always an excellent fighter. Again, he uses a very different style than other members of his family, but he was always excellent in fights.
I will never tire of discussing these things. I understand that many things nowadays are not shown much anymore, since the writers focus more on his leadership ability than detective skills, and it is also obvious that not everyone will want to read all the comics, there are too many- I haven't even read them all and I don't plan to, it's a hobby, not my life- lol
But yes, I'm still going to always say this, that his "brothers' abilities" are actually Dick's, and that does NOT mean that his siblings don't have them too, they just aren't the only ones.
My man has issues ...anyway, christmas pic
I finally got caught up with the new nightwing
Part 9
Dick about his family in Nightwing #79: “I’ve always had someone to catch me if I feel. My parents. My father. My other father. And my brothers.”
Jason in Detective Comics #975: “Being here, being one of all of you… It’s important to me. […] Family is family. I can make room on the black sheep side of the table if I need to.”
Bruce, Kate and Jacob talk about Martha in Detective Comics #978:
The worst part is that this is actually true xD
“Are you here all night?” Jason asked, “or are you planning to, you know, be a human? I think those go home sometimes.”
High above Jason’s head, a swarm of bats entered the cave, winding among the stalactites and screeching a kind of garbled response.
Dick, however, said nothing. He remained bent over one of the long tables on the cavern floor, examining a map Jason could barely see from his own seat a short distance behind, ignoring Jason and his sarcasm both.
Jason didn’t enjoy being ignored.
Fine.
“I have some tasks you could take over,” he suggested, in his least helpful voice, “if you’re in the market for an excuse to keep working. I know you make those sometimes.”
Nothing.
“I have some weapons to clean, if you want to do that. You could type out all my old cases, if that works, because I only have the originals and those are hard to work with.”
Still nothing.
“Take out the trash?” Jason tried. “Wash the dishes? I put a load of laundry in a couple of hours ago, but there’s a wool jacket in the mix, so be careful what you put in the dryer.”
Dick didn’t move. Jason was enjoying himself now.
“Write a sonnet? Map the White House?” Jason held up a finger Dick couldn’t see, like he had just remembered something interesting. “I think there’s a library on 8th that exploded a few days back, so if you could just grab the rubble from the street and rebuild it by hand, that would be great.”
No reaction.
“Whatever,” said Jason, “I’m out of here. Get some sleep maybe? I know the whole work-to-outrun-despair routine is your ‘thing,’ or whatever, but it never looks good on you. Have you considered—”
Jason cut himself off as Dick finally turned away from the table. Looking him in the eye, Jason felt suddenly and inexplicably afraid.
“Go on,” said Dick, quietly.

Duke and Jason have been banned from being anywhere near each other in costume because the arguments they will break out into is both too intense and too distracting for patrol. Everyone thinks they're serious but after the first 10-20 times they do it for the love of the game.

Jason: You shut the fuck up.
Duke: Zombie
Jason: Flashlight
Duke: That's why the joker still alive
Jason: That's why the joker did what he did to ya mom.

Bruce over the comms who, along with the entire bat family has been listening to entire thing: Signal, Red Hood! SPERATE! NOW!
They are now giggling as dick and cass drag them apart.
Why are you crying? They ask. “no reason.” I reply. Thinking very intently about Jason showing up to watch his graduating class walk the stage and get their diplomas or recognizing one of the girls he barely knew from Freshman year surrounded by friends, carrying milkshakes with a a prom dress slung over her arm at the mall. And it hits him suddenly, ‘that’s my senior prom. I’m supposed to graduate in a month.’ (this will have no physiological impact on him whatsoever; he promises himself. (This leads to a very sharp decline in his mental health))
“I’m fine.” I say “totally okay.”
