This Is The Worst Fucking Day Of My Life, And Yet I Am Not Surprised In The Slightest.

this is the worst fucking day of my life, and yet i am not surprised in the slightest.

toph is an icon for disabled people. she’s one of so few blind characters who is a hero and whose disability is not her weakness or fatal flaw. while it does make her life harder, as any disability does, it also gives her strength. she is the greatest earthbender of her generation. she invented a whole new subsection of bending. the people behind the live action production had a chance to make history just by doing the bare minimum: casting a blind actress to play a blind character. they couldn’t even do that.

not only that, but they’re making her “slightly more feminine” to “humanize” her. as if there weren’t so many young girls out there who looked up to toph because she was weird and didn’t fit the mold. in “tales of ba sing se” she tells katara, “i don’t care what i look like. i’m not looking for anyone’s approval. i know who i am.” to have a female character who doesn’t conform to beauty standards is so important especially right now with the prevalent beauty influencer culture.

while the original cartoon’s representation of women wasn’t perfect, it was diverse. katara and ty lee were both feminine. they liked to dress up and look pretty. toph is not feminine. she grew up forced to dress in formal clothes and style herself a certain way and decided to liberate herself from that. all three of these women are incredibly strong and incredibly talented at what they do, and none of that is impacted by their appearance or gender presentation.

every day, my hatred for the netflix version of avatar grows.

Nat's Relationship With The Wilderness Is So Fascinating To Me. She Is Clearly Playing The Role Of The

Nat's relationship with the Wilderness is so fascinating to me. She is clearly playing the role of the group's skeptic—she resists the rituals, challenges Lottie’s authority, and often positions herself as the rational voice amid rising hysteria. But underneath it all, she does believe in the Wilderness, perhaps even more deeply and purely than many of the others.

Nat's defiance and skepticism is a defense mechanism. No matter how much she denies it, even to herself, there is some part of Nat that knows the Wilderness is real. But unlike those who romanticize the idea of the Wilderness as a source of self-preservation, salvation, or hope, Natalie sees it for what it truly is: something wild, hungry, dangerous, and intimately tied to their worst impulses. Nat and Lottie possess a unique understanding of the Wilderness as something that lives inside of them all, rather than an external force. I think it's very possible Nat has felt it from the beginning, some darkness within all of them, and it terrifies her. Her resistance is a form of self-protection, a way to maintain some sense of autonomy in the face of something she instinctively knows could consume her. Rather than give herself over to it like the others, she fights it tooth and nail, perhaps knowing better than anyone what it is capable of.

These are the ones I like the most :>

i saw a bunch of tweets about how travis is back on the shit list for trying to kill lottie and i thought to myself, “it’s yellowjackets, y’all.. grow up” 😅 but seriously?! you’re all pissed over attempted murder in a show like yellowjackets?? i mean, i love lottie too, but come on…….

and you truly can’t figure out why travis martinez would want revenge on lottie for inspiring shauna (and tai) to keep everyone in the wilderness??? let’s review, shall we? 🧐

his abusive father died violently in a plane crash and the corpse fell from a tree in front of him.

he was nearly killed by shauna and lottie and also kind of assaulted by some of the girls when they were all poisoned by misty. did he hold a grudge? no.

his little brother went missing for months during winter and travis searched for him until sort of going mad.

he mourned javi’s death once when nat showed him the bloody clothes.

then javi returned! but he was so traumatized by something out there that he had become selectively mute.

then javi drowned! so travis had to mourn javi again, for realsies. the shot of him cradling javi’s head while the predators watched on? HEARTBREAKING. he didn’t even get to say goodbye.

and, finally, he had to eat his own little brother’s corpse so that he wouldn’t die of starvation.

plus, he experienced all the General Trauma Stuff that everyone else felt too!! so yeah……… travis trying to kill lottie with a tiger pit? fair play, brother. i see you, man. i love you.

You Don’t Understand How Horrifying Travis’s Scenes In This Episode Were For Me.

You don’t understand how horrifying Travis’s scenes in this episode were for me.

My thing with Travis is that I always thought that he survived the wilderness because he was so passive, he just goes along with what the girls do out of fear. He was seen as a victim of the girls. He wasn’t part of the group, he wasn’t one of them. I thought he was the most grounded along with Nat.

But this just threw all of that out of the window. If he wanted to take Lottie out he could’ve just grabbed a knife and gotten it over with. But no, he spent probably hours whittling each spike one by one, covering it up meticulously, and luring Lottie over to it. Repeating “I can’t.” to himself when he’s with her.

I expected his crash out to be just like an emotional outburst, but quietly making a brutal trap for someone who, for all we know, was his only friend for months. It’s something you wouldn’t expect from him, especially if you look at him in the beginning of the season. A wolf in sheep’s clothing, horrifying.
