my minotaur boy!! pls click on the photos for higher res! my thesis is focusing on trans men and creatures (how original ik) and this was last semester's final. i spent a lot of time looking at sculptures of the theseus/minotaur story, and yknow? a LOT of them are erotic! i'm pretty sure i saw some of them on tumblr a decade ago, and that's led to this now!
as you'll notice, the minotaur has a big t-dick! i wanted to give him breasts and an enlarged clitoris to present a very masculine trans figure. the boy on the bottom is also trans because i say so . the piece is about looking up to older, bigger, hairier trans men and seeing something awe-inspiring and beautiful. the minotaur was locked up by a cruel father for being different, and i think modern adaptations tend towards a sympathetic asterion (his name in one version)
making this piece was. so much effort. it took me about 3 months to get it all together - from clay model (plasticine) to 3D print to silicone mold to wax cast, and finally bronze pour into the shell mold. and then a TON of filing, sanding, dremel-ing, and various other metalworking techniques that probably took years off my life.
i started with sketches and made theeeeeee ugliest model ever:
then used a 3D scanner to get it digital, then spent a goooood month or two making him pretty in blender! then i spent an agonizing few weeks trying to get it print-ready, and fiiiiiinally did
^^^ an early resin printed draft of the model - you can see in the final that i added lots to theseus after some feedback, but sadly the nosering broke off every time i cast it so i just. let that be <3
then came the moldmaking, and then the wax dipping!! the yellow stuff is shell mold (ground up ceramic bits and algae soup, sticks to the wax, then silica sand in varying sizes on top) which gets the wax melted out, and bronze poured in!
then it's all metalworking, cutting stuff off, and working with hot metal. they don't tell you about all the bronze dust and how annoying it gets wearing a respirator AND goggles. but it is for me health, me boy. here's him all cleaned up before the patina:
and then i spray him down with various chemicals to make it "patina" (aka rust) in pretty colors. wait a few days, then apply paste wax to seal it and give it that shine!
then we get what you see above!!! the blue was actually unintentional, and i'm still not super sure why it looks that way.. but it's pretty so idc <3
thanks for reading!! if you ever have any bronze/casting questions, don't hesitate to message me! <3
If you're holding back on being masc because you think you need to be a skinny white man to pass, give that the fuck up. Be big if you're big, be brown if you're brown, be assertive, take up space, be whatever the fuck kind of man/masc you are and stop waiting. Stop trying to diminish your power out of fear.
do you actually care about trans men or do you relegate male pregnancy to the status of "gross but funny fanfiction trope" at best and "literal body horror" at worst? do you actually care about trans men or have you accepted without question the ideas that bottom growth is a borderline-torturously painful process and phalloplasty is a dangerous surgery with objectively unsatisfactory results because they confirm your implicit assumptions about the violence and horror of masculinization? do you actually care about trans men or do you think testosterone being a controlled substance is fair because you prioritize fairness in sports more highly than transmasculine lives? do you actually care about trans men or do you distance yourself from us as we transition and make half-joking comments about us being traitors because you view transmasculinity as a shift from ally to enemy? do you actually care about trans men or do you get mad at us when we read transmasculine experiences into female characters because you see it as an act of theft and believe transmasculinity is inherently less valuable than womanhood? do you actually care about trans men or is your first thought when you see a transition timeline about how pretty the "before" picture is? do you actually care about trans men or does your interest in our lives begin and end with how badly you want a boypussy to fuck?
do we exist to you as real people or only in theory? do you read the stories we tell, listen to the music we make? how many of us can you name? when we speak, do you listen? would you fight for us? do you trust us to know ourselves best? are you our friend? do you mourn us when we're gone? do you care for us while we're still here?
Wish I was actually good at playing Duelists because I simp for so many of them

Y'know, when cis people pull the 'All trans men have to do to pass is throw on a hoodie and cut their hair.' It's like... Right. That's dumb, but you're cis, and you will never understand the lived trans experience.
It bothers me more when trans women say it. Because it's like? You know things aren't that easy, you are trans.
Trans women get shoulder dysphoria from feeling like they're too wide, hip dysphoria from feeling like they're too slim, chest dysphoria from feeling like it's too flat, voice dysphoria from feeling like it's too low, height dysphoria from feeling too tall. And no one will suggest to them that these feelings (and subsequent perceptions and hate from cis people) will be solved by growing out their hair and throwing on a dress.
What makes them think trans men don't experience the exact same things but in reverse? Shoulders that feel too narrow, hips that feel too wide, chest that feels too big, voice that feels too high, height that feels too short.
If you experience dysphoria, know dysphoria, and know how awful it can get. And you also know that cis people will use these things against you in order to misgender you. Then I do not understand why you would pretend another party in the same category would not have these issues whatsoever.
And I feel the need to clarify, because this always happens when someone makes a post about trans men's struggles. This is not a dig at trans women, this is not transmisogyny. This is about a very specific group of trans people who downplay the issues of trans men. If you are not part of that group, good! Then this is not a dig at you.
like as a trans man i have repeatedly had more cis women be misandrist to me and then when i tell them they're doing such their reactions are always wildly on the opposite ends of the spectrum and neither are good
one is always "how can i be misandrist when you're not a man :(((" and the other is on the complete opposite end of "yeah well you deserve it because you're a MAN and MEN don't deserve my kindness" or whatever bullshit excuse they wanna make up and it's like.. so fucking annoying.
like. sure. there are a lot of oppressive men. but i can assure you, very greatly, that your trans man friend is not immediately one of them as soon as he comes out. and i can assure you that we are not "betraying our femininity" when over half of us DIDN'T FUCKING WANT IT IN THE FIRST PLACE.
and then there's the entire can of worms of people claiming misandry and androphobia aren't even real, not to MENTION how some people shit their britches in anger when you so much as MENTION transmisandry and transandrophobia.
like, genuinely, how do you even MANAGE to have friends with how rancid you must act on the daily with fuckass opinions like these.
