"The common fleabane is a perennial flowering plant native to North America. It was imported to Japan around 1920 as an ornamental flower, much later than the very similar annual fleabane. The easiest way to tell them apart is the width of their petals: the common fleabane has thinner petals. Around the 80s, the flowers began to become resistant to herbicide. As a highly adaptive, strongly reproducing non-native species, it may compete with and displace native plants, and so it was placed on the Act on Prevention of Damage to Ecosystems Due to Specified Alien Species as one of the top 100 invasive species by the National Ecological Society. That's why I pulled this one out of the ground from the street. To kill it. You can have it, I guess. It's also edible, by the way. But you should soak and boil it first. I read it's good as tempura."
