Two pieces from an unfinished series, circa 2008. Oil on Masonite.
Portraits of Mary-Claire and Danielle, focusing only on their teeth.
I often focus on the alignment of people's teeth and sometimes recognize people more by their teeth than other facial features. Because of this, perfectly straight white teeth seem to bore me and I have a harder time remembering people with nice teeth. I find crooked, chipped, and strange teeth to be endearing and attractive.

I've been listening to the audiobook of "The Killer of Little Shepherds: A True Crime Story and the Birth of Forensic Science" by Douglas Starr.
It's the case of a French serial killer in the late 1800s, Joseph Vascher, and the development of early forensic science by Alexandre Lacassagne.
Lacassagne worked in Lyon, France, where the morgue was housed on a barge in the Rhône. The reasoning was that this would keep the stench away from the city and it was close to the two largest sources of corpses -- the hospital and the river itself. However, there were problems.
Joseph was a problem child...

My boyfriend got me a rigid heddle loom for my 30th birthday. I’ve been working on my first piece. I think I started with the instructions for a scarf?? So this is probably going to be very long and I have no actual plan, I’m just getting a feel for things. It’ll be a surprise when I get to unroll the whole thing.
I’m considering this done. Just needs a coat of varnish.

The text in this image comes the from the traditional ballad "O Love is Teasing."
My favorite version of it is this one, by Rhiannon Giddens

In case it hasn’t been evident, I’ll take this moment to make it clear: I am not here for white supremacists/nationalists, racists, misogynists, homophobes, antisemites, antiziganists, xenophobes, TERFs, SWERFs, or any manifestation of fascism or social darwinism.
charismaticoutcast said: You know, what’s funny about that is that any time I draw my cartoon self, I make sure to include my gapped tooth because I almost feel like it’s a signature of some sort.
Yeah! When I draw my own teeth (and decide to be accurate instead of just drawing them like raggedy shark teeth) I always include that my left incisor has been worn flat because I click my teeth when I'm anxious.
Your painting “Pretty Bunny/Ugly Hare" has really resonated with me and made me cry. Thank you for creating it. It's beautiful and I love it.
Oh wow, thank you so much. I’m so glad you connected with my work.
If you are 18+ and make, purchase, or enjoy artwork with nudity (especially depictions of "non-normative" bodies) or sexual activity, I encourage you to join this list.
SESTA/FOSTA and the restrictions of payment processors are the primary reasons that places like Tumblr, Instagram, Patreon, Squarespace, Gumroad and Etsy (with varying ways to get around the rules) will not sell products or even host images of nudity or sexual acts.
Since I started selling my own artwork online, almost 20 years ago, the number of sites where artists can post and sell anything that merely has a NIPPLE visible has been drastically reduced. If you're aware of the disparity in censorship on sites/apps like tumblr, insta, and tiktok -- all of which have documented trends of censoring images of visibly queer, fat, and/or disabled bodies, regardless of sexual content -- then you can understand how these additional limitations further restrict the arena for creative works by marginalized communities. And the ways you can directly, ethically support adult content creators/porn stars/sex workers.
Patreon, Squarespace, Gumroad. What do all these online spaces have in common? A monopolizing payment processor. My hand slipped and I contacted the ACLU, the FSC, and the MA Bar Association for legal assistance. If you’ve been fucked over by draconian nsfw bans please join my Mastercard Injury Mailing List.
