In which an away mission goes wrong, and a new helmsman is needed for the U.S.S. Enterprise: one Gary Mitchell, former…friend of one James Tiberius Kirk.
Kirk is desperately trying to keep his past hidden and maintain his image in front of his crew, but recent events are bringing everything he’s been pushing down closer and closer to the surface.
Meanwhile, Spock is suspicious of this new crew member and…perturbed as he realizes he may not know Kirk as well as he thought he did after everything they’d been through over the years.
The universe has never been kind to James T. Kirk. (But could it be, in the end?)
I'm obsessed with "comment, Mr Spock" "very bad poetry, captain" we don't talk about Spock being into art and also bitchy about it enough as a community

Son of NCC-1701 crewmember Charlene Masters, Commander Simon Masters was the Chief Engineer of the U.S.S. Eridani during its five year mission. He was 36 years old at the start of the mission and also held the title of Second officer.Â
A very creative engineer, he was highly regarded for his excellent technical knowledge of the ship and a thirst for innovation. Albeit being skilled in his domain, he often felt unworthy of his posting, due to a mistake he made on one of his early on-ship assignments as a cadet, during which he made a mistake that cost the life of one of his classmates. On the ship, he was a very easy-going person, and enjoyed passing by the science labs to discuss ongoing research with the team of department head David Marcus. He also liked getting involved in the newest, more-mechanically inclined science projects of the department, and would happily work on additional safety measures in the lab for specific experiments. While sociable, he would sometime retreat to the rumbling of the engines and echoing jeffries tube for more menial maintenance as a way to unwind.Â
