LORE WARNING!!! LORE WARNING!!! In this alternate reality, the loss of souls among monsters is a direct consequence of the creation of the magical barrier by humans during the human-monster war...

As tensions between the two races reached a boiling point, humans, facing defeat, turned to a powerful magical solution to protect themselves from the powerful monsters. They created a barrier that sealed them safely underground, effectively shielding them from the wrath of their monstrous enemy.

However, the magic used to construct this barrier had unintended and devastating consequences for the monsters.... As the barrier came to exsistance, it drained off vast amounts of magical energy from monsters, disrupting the delicate balance of their realm. This sudden drain of magical essence had a profound impact on the monsters' souls.

The monsters, whose very existence is intertwined with magic, found themselves robbed of, not only their abilities, but also their life force. The magical barrier acted as a conduit, draining the essence of their souls and leaving them fractured and depleted. Without their souls to anchor them, monsters became disconnected from their innate magical abilities and emotions. Their once vibrant personalities faded, replaced by a sense of emptiness and longing.

The loss of souls among monsters left them vulnerable and powerless, unable to resist the encroaching influence of the barrier created by humans. Locked away on the surface without their souls, monsters found themselves in a state of an everlasting torment, searching desperately for a way to reclaim what had been stolen from them.

Despite their state, monsters adapted to their soulless existence, developing alternative means of survival and connection. Some turned to consuming human souls, believing it to be the only way to replenish their own depleted life force.... Others sought solace in companionship and bonds with humans, hoping to find a sense of fulfillment through these connections.
