black sharpie, Monrovia 1998
Another swirl drawing. I put those gaps in the lines just because I thought it would look cool but then the drawing took on a completely unexpected life. I was surprised.
Drawing those big swirls was a challenge. I remember feeling neurotic about them not being perfect. A couple of them still bug me. I'm a nut. :))

As usual, listen to both songs before voting, and define "better" any way you wish! (Although by now, you've probably heard all these songs many times over.)
Utah Desert
colored pencil on paper
Los Angeles 2014
When I was a young boy in the 1950s we lived in Utah for a while. I was maybe six or seven. We, my friends and I, would go for long walks through the beautiful high plains desert. In the distance we would here the deep booms of atomic bombs being tested across the mountains in Nevada. No shit. What a memory.
Even with the bombs though, the American Southwest was so beautiful. I miss it dearly.
Fast forward sixty five years. I now live on a small island in the Philippines. On the other side of the earth. Hiding.
In the distance I can hear roosters crowing and dogs barking.
So strange.

Pencil drawing after Paul Gauguin

"Good artists copy. Great artists steal!" - Pablo Picasso
Paul Gauguin was a force of nature. I can spend entire days reading about his life. And his art... I feed off his art.
And being that I am only a good artist I copy his drawings.
Well, now wait a second.. In my defense I don't copy so much as I "interpret."
There's a difference. 🤣
I based the above drawing on this piece by the master.
Mother and Daughter
Paul Gauguin 1891
And...
I got the title for the drawing from Gauguin's imortal questions:
"Where do we come from? Who are we? Where are we going?" - Paul Gauguin

Pedro UK - Searching for light
I've been doing music video artwork for my friend Pedro UK. Some of them have turned out nicely. Pedro UK's music is great as well. The drawings are all done with pen and colored pencil. I used 'Paint' to assemble the covers. Tumblr only lets me upload one video per post so I uploaded Pedro's song "Then 2" (below). The other videos are uploaded on YouTube.
While we're on the subject, if anyone knows anyone who needs cover artwork done for video's or CD's I'm open for business.
Cheers.

black sharpie on paper
Miami 2009
I lived in Miami for a few years. I rented a small apartment right on the bay. It was lovely. Land crabs and iguanas used to wander around the yard. Beat that!
Miami has some of the most beautiful beaches on earth. White sands and tropical blue water. I used to hang out at beach cafes and draw.
Back then my main drawing tool was the black ultrafine sharpie. I was into drawing quilts. Crisp black and while images drawn off the cuff.
Here's another one.

I don't speak German, but somehow, this song, sung in German, talks to me.
